Different methods have been recently put forward and implemented experimentally to inverse engineer the time dependent Hamiltonian of a quantum system and accelerate slow adiabatic processes via non-adiabatic shortcuts. In the "transitionless tracking algorithm" proposed by Berry, shortcut Hamiltonians are designed so that the system follows exactly, in an arbitrarily short time, the approximate adiabatic path defined by a reference Hamiltonian. A different approach is based on designing first a Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant to carry the eigenstates of a Hamiltonian from specified initial to final configurations, again in an arbitrary time, and then constructing from the invariant the transient Hamiltonian connecting these boundary configurations. We show that the two approaches, apparently quite different in form and so far in results, are in fact strongly related and potentially equivalent, so that the inverse-engineering operations in one of them can be reinterpreted and understood in terms of the concepts and operations of the other one. We study as explicit examples the expansions of time-dependent harmonic traps and state preparation of two level systems.
Recently, a novel three-dimensional entangled state called tree-type entanglement, which is likely to have applications for improving quantum communication security, was prepared via adiabatic passage by Song et al. [Phys. Rev. A 93, 062321 (2016)]. Here we propose two schemes for fast generations of tree-type three-dimensional entanglement among three spatially separated atoms via shortcuts to adiabatic passage. With the help of quantum Zeno dynamics, two kinds of different but equivalent methods, Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants and transitionless quantum driving, are applied to construct shortcu…
This paper is concerned with the connection between density matrix method, supersymmetric quantum mechanics and Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory. It is shown that these three formulations share the common mathematical structure: specifically, all of them have the invariant operators which satisfies the Liouville-Von Neumann equation and the solutions to the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and/or Schrödinger eigenvalue equation can be constructed in terms of the eigenstates of the invariants.
Lewis-Riesenfeld -Ermakov's (LR) invariant method for the construction of time-dependent phase-space invariant is extended for the general quantum system with position-dependent effective mass (PDEM) Hamiltonian. It turns out that, only a specific class of PDEM and a particular class of external potentials will exhibit the LR-invariant operator in close form. Then we have determined a class of unitary time-dependent quantum canonical transformation for the concerned PDEM and external potentials so that an equivalent time-independent PDEM Hamiltonian is obtained.
We apply the inversely-engineered control method based on Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants to control mixed states of a two-level quantum system. We show that the inversely-engineered control passages of mixed states - and pure states as special cases - can be made significantly faster than the conventional adiabatic control passages, which renders the method applicable to quantum computation. We devise a new type of inversely-engineered control passages, to be coined the antedated control passages, which further speed up the control significantly. We also demonstrate that by carefully tuning the c…
Harmonic oscillators with multiple abrupt jumps in their frequencies have been investigated by several authors during the last decades. We investigate the dynamics of a quantum harmonic oscillator with initial frequency $ω_0$, that undergoes a sudden jump to a frequency $ω_1$ and, after a certain time interval, suddenly returns to its initial frequency. Using the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of dynamical invariants, we present expressions for the mean energy value, the mean number of excitations, and the transition probabilities, considering the initial state different from the fundamental. We show…
We revise the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant method for solving the quantum time-dependent harmonic oscillator in light of the Quantum Arnold Transformation previously introduced and its recent generalization to the Quantum Arnold-Ermakov-Pinney Transformation. We prove that both methods are equivalent and show the advantages of the Quantum Arnold-Ermakov-Pinney transformation over the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant method. We show that, in the quantum time-dependent and damped harmonic oscillator, the invariant proposed by Dodonov & Man'ko is more suitable and provide some examples to illustrate it, …
We study fast expansions of cold atoms in a three-dimensional Gaussian-beam optical trap. Three different methods to avoid final motional excitation are compared: inverse engineering using Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants, which provides the best overall performance, a bang-bang approach, and a fast adiabatic approach. We analyze the excitation effect of anharmonic terms, radial-longitudinal coupling, and radial-frequency mismatch. In the inverse engineering approach these perturbations can be suppressed or mitigated by increasing the laser beam waist.
In this article, we studied the system of (2+1) dimensional Dirac equation in time-dependent noncommutative phase-space. Exactly, we investigated the analytical solution of the corresponding system by the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant method based on the construction of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant. Knowing that we obtained the time-dependent Dirac Hamiltonian of the problem in question from a time-dependent Bopp-Shift translation, then it used to set the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant operators. Thereafter, the obtained results used to express the eigenfunctions that lead to determining the genera…
We construct Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants from two dimensional point transformations for two oscillators that are coupled to each other in space in a PT-symmetrical and time-dependent fashion. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the model is conveniently expressed in terms of generators of the symplectic $sp(4)$ Lie algebra. This allows for an alternative systematic approach to find Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants leading to a set of coupled differential equations that we solve by using time-ordered exponentials. We also demonstrate that point transformations may be utilized to directly construct time…
Speeding up adiabatic method has attracted much attention with the wide applications in quantum information processing. In this paper, two kinds of methods, Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant-based inverse engineering and transitionless quantum driving are applied to implement speeding up adiabatic state conversion in optomechanical system. The perfect population transfer can be achieved within a short time. At last, the energetic cost is analysed for the transitionless quantum driving.
We generalize the Lewis-Riesenfeld technique of solving the time-dependent Schrodinger equation to cases where the invariant has continuous eigenvalues. An explicit formula for a generalized Lewis-Riesenfeld phase is derived in terms of the eigenstates of the invariant. As an illustration the generalized phase is calculated for a particle in a time-dependent linear potential.
${\cal C}$-operators were introduced as involution operators in non-Hermitian theories that commute with the time-independent Hamiltonians and the parity/time-reversal operator. Here we propose a definition for time-dependent ${\cal C}(t)$-operators and demonstrate that for a particular signature they may be expanded in terms of time-dependent biorthonormal left and right eigenvectors of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants. The vanishing commutation relation between the ${\cal C}$-operator and the Hamiltonian in the time-independent case is replaced by the Lewis-Riesenfeld equation in the time-depende…
We theoretically propose an alternative method to realize a deterministic SWAP gate using shortcuts to adiabatic passage based on the approach of Lewis- Riesenfeld invariants in cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED). By combining Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants with quantum Zeno dynamics, the SWAP gate can be achieved deterministically. The strict numerical results show that our scheme is a fast and robust approach to achieve SWAP gate.
In this paper we study a two-dimensional [2D] rotationally symmetric harmonic oscillator with time-dependent frictional force. At the classical level, we solve the equations of motion for a particular case of the time-dependent coefficient of friction. At the quantum level, we use the Lewis-Riesenfeld procedure of invariants to construct exact solutions for the corresponding time-dependent Schrödinger equations. The eigenfunctions obtained are in terms of the generalized Laguerre polynomials. By mean of the solutions we verify a generalization version of the Heisenberg's uncertainty relation a…
By making use of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory, the solution of the Schrödinger equation for the time-dependent linear potential corresponding to the quadratic-form Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant $I_{\rm q}(t)$ is obtained in the present paper. It is emphasized that in order to obtain the general solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, one should first find the complete set of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants. For the present quantum system with a time-dependent linear potential, the linear $I_{\rm l}(t)$ and quadratic $I_{\rm q}(t)$ (where the latter $I_{\rm q}(t)$ cannot be writ…
We propose a scheme for generating three-dimensional entanglement between two atoms trapped in two spatially separated cavities reapectively via shortcuts to adi- abatic passage based on the approach of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants in cavity quan- tum electronic dynamics. By combining Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants with quantum Zeno dynamics, we can generate three dimensional entanglement of the two atoms with high fidelity. The Numerical simulation results show that the scheme is ro- bust against the decoherences caused by the photon leakage and atomic spontaneous emission.
We show that the solution obtained by Bekkar {\it et al.} in their comment [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 68}, 016101 (2003)] on Guedes's work of solving the quantum system with a time-dependent linear potential is still {\it not} the {\it general} one of the Schrödinger equation. It is concluded that Bekkar {\it et al.}'s solution (corresponding to the linear Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant) and our solution (corresponding to the quadratic-form Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant) presented here will constitute together a complete set of solutions (general solutions) of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation of the s…
We reexamine the general solution of a Schrödinger equation in the presence of a time-dependent linear potential in configuration space based on the Lewis-Riesenfeld framework. For comparison, we also solve the problem in momentum space and then Fourier transform the solution to get the general wave function. Appropriately choosing the weight function in the latter method, we can obtain the same wave function as the former method. It is found that non-Hermitian time-dependent linear invariant can be used to obtain Gaussian-type wave-packet (GTWP) solutions of the time-dependent system. This op…
Using the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants we construct explicit analytical solutions for the massless Dirac equation in 2+1 dimensions describing quasi-particles in graphene. The Hamiltonian of the system considered contains some explicit time-dependence in addition to one resulting from being minimally coupled to a time-dependent magnetic field. The eigenvalue equations for the two spinor components of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant are found to decouple into a pair of supersymmetric invariants in a similar fashion as the known decoupling for the time-independent Dirac Hamiltonians.
Inverse engineering of electric fields has been recently proposed to achieve fast and robust spin control in a single-electron quantum dot with spin-orbit coupling. In this paper we design, by inverse engineering based on Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants, time-dependent electric fields to realize fast transitions in the selected singlet-triplet subspace of a two-electron double quantum dot. We apply two-mode driving schemes, directly employing the Lewis-Riesenfeld phases, to minimize the electric field necessary to design flexible protocols and perform spin manipulation on the chosen timescale.
Cavity magnomechanics provides a readily-controllable hybrid system, that consisted of cavity mode, magnon mode, and phonon mode, for quantum state manipulation. To implement a fast-and-robust state transfer between the hybrid photon-magnon mode and the phonon mode, we propose two accelerated adiabatic-passage protocols individually based on the counterdiabatic Hamiltonian for transitionless quantum driving and the Levis-Riesenfeld invariant for inverse engineering. Both the counterdiabatic Hamiltonian and the Levis-Riesenfeld invariant generally apply to the continuous-variable systems with a…
The "Lewis-Riesenfeld phases" which plays a crucial role in constructing shortcuts to adiabaticity may be a resource for the implementation of quantum phase gates. By combining "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant" with "quantum Zeno dynamics", we propose an effective scheme of rapidly implementing $π$ phase gates via constructing shortcuts to adiabatic passage in a two-distant-atom-cavity system. The influence of various decoherence processes such as spontaneous emission and photon loss on the fidelity is discussed. It is noted that this scheme is insensitive to both two error sources. Additionally, a…
We discuss the extension of the Lewis and Riesenfeld method of solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation to cases where the invariant has continuous eigenvalues and apply it to the case of a generalized time-dependent inverted harmonic oscillator. As a special case, we consider a generalized inverted oscillator with constant frequency and exponentially increasing mass.
We provide further non-trivial solutions to the recently proposed time-dependent Dyson and quasi-Hermiticity relation. Here we solve them for the generalized version of the non-Hermitian Swanson Hamiltonian with time-dependent coefficients. We construct time-dependent solutions by employing the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants and discuss concrete physical applications of our results.
We argue that the way to get the general solution of a Schrodinger equation in the presence of a time-dependent linear potential based on the Lewis-Riesenfeld framework is to use a Hermitian linear invariant operator. We demonstrate that the linear invariant proposed in p and q is an Hermitian operator which has the Gaussian wave packet as its eigenfunction.
We propose an inverse method to accelerate without final excitation the adiabatic transport of a Bose Einstein condensate. The method, applicable to arbitrary potential traps, is based on a partial extension of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants, and provides transport protocols that satisfy exactly the no-excitation conditions without constraints or approximations. This inverse method is complemented by optimizing the trap trajectory with respect to different physical criteria and by studying the effect of noise.
We propose an alternative scheme of shortcuts to quantum phase gate in a much shorter time based on the approach of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants in cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) systems. This scheme can be used to perform one-qubit phase gate, two-qubit controlled phase gate and also multiqubit controlled phase gate. The strict numerical simulation for some quantum gates are given, and demonstrate that the total operation time of our scheme is shorter than previous schemes and very robustness against decoherence.
We discuss applications of shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) to adiabatic quantum computation. After reviewing the fundamental properties and the present status of STA from the author's personal point of view, we apply the method to the adiabatic algorithm of the Grover's problem. We discuss two possible implementations of STA for the adiabatic quantum computations: the method of quantum adiabatic brachistochrone and the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant-based inverse engineering.
The de Broglie-Bohm quantum trajectories are found in analytically closed forms for the eigenstates and the coherent state of the Lewis-Riesenfeld (LR) invariant of a time-dependent harmonic oscillator. It is also shown that an eigenstate (a coherent state) of an invariant can be interpreted as squeezed states obtained by squeezing an eigenstate (a coherent state) of another invariant. This provides ways for a whole description of squeezed states.
The present letter finds the complete set of exact solutions of the time-dependent generalized Cini model by making use of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory and the invariant-related unitary transformation formulation and, based on this, the general explicit expression for the decoherence factor is therefore obtained. This study provides us with a useful method to consider the geometric phase and topological properties in the time-dependent quantum decoherence process.
In this work we construct two classes of exact solutions for the most general time-dependent Dirac Hamiltonian in 1+1 dimensions. Some problems regarding to some formal solutions in the literature are discussed. Finally the existence of a generalized Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant connected with such solutions is discussed.
For a large class of time-dependent non-Hermitain Hamiltonians expressed in terms linear and bilinear combinations of the generators for an Euclidean Lie-algebra respecting different types of PT-symmetries, we find explicit solutions to the time-dependent Dyson equation. A specific Hermitian model with explicit time-dependence is analyzed further and shown to be quasi-exactly solvable. Technically we constructed the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants making useof the metric picture, which is an equivalent alternative to the Schrödinger, Heisenberg and interaction picture containing the time-dependenc…
We introduce an approach for quantum computing in continuous time based on the Lewis-Riesenfeld dynamic invariants. This approach allows, under certain conditions, for the design of quantum algorithms running on a nonadiabatic regime. We show that the relaxation of adiabaticity can be achieved by processing information in the eigenlevels of a time dependent observable, namely, the dynamic invariant operator. Moreover, we derive the conditions for which the computation can be implemented by time independent as well as by adiabatically varying Hamiltonians. We illustrate our results by providing…
The Kerr metric of spherically symmetric gravitational field is analyzed through the coordinate transformation from the rotating frame to fixing frame, and consequently that the inertial force field (with the exception of the centrifugal force field) in the rotating system is one part of its gravitomagnetic field is verified. We investigate the spin-rotation coupling and, by making use of Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory, we obtain exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation of a spinning particle in a time-dependent rotating reference frame. A potential application of these exact solutions t…
The consensus is that an object with a large mass will not manifest quantum behavior. Therefore, we expect that the quantumness of a time-dependent effective mass (TDEM) will erase after a long time when the mass profile continuously grows with time. However, the present article depicts that the Wigner quasi-probability distribution (WQD) will manifest an entanglement behavour forever for two spatially separated free TDEM. The time-dependent Schrödinger equation for a free particle with TDEM is solved with the help of Lewis-Riesenfeld phase space invariant method. WQD for the system of two ide…
By using the Lewis-Riesenfeld theory and the invariant-related unitary transformation formulation, the exact solutions of the {\it time-dependent} Schrödinger equations which govern the various Lie-algebraic quantum systems in atomic physics, quantum optics, nuclear physics and laser physics are obtained. It is shown that the {\it explicit} solutions may also be obtained by working in a sub-Hilbert-space corresponding to a particular eigenvalue of the conserved generator ({\it i. e.}, the {\it time-independent} invariant) for some quantum systems without quasi-algebraic structures. The global …
We explore the possibility of modifying the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants developed originally to find exact solutions for time-dependent quantum mechanical systems for the situation in which an exact invariant can be constructed, but the subsequently resulting time-independent eigenvalue system is not solvable exactly. We propose to carry out this step in an approximate fashion, such as employing standard time-independent perturbation theory or the WKB approximation, and subsequently feeding the resulting approximated expressions back into the time-dependent scheme. We illustrate the …
The present paper finds the complete set of exact solutions of the general time-dependent dynamical models for quantum decoherence, by making use of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory and the invariant-related unitary transformation formulation. Based on this, the general explicit expression for the decoherence factor is then obtained and the adiabatic classical limit of an illustrative example is discussed. The result (i.e., the adiabatic classical limit) obtained in this paper is consistent with what obtained by other authors, and futhermore we obtain the more general results concerning t…
The Lewis and Riesenfeld method has been investigated, by Ramos et al in Ref.[1], for quantum systems governed by time-dependent PT symmetric Hamiltonians and particularly where the quantum system is a particle submitted to action of a complex time-dependent linear potential. We discuss the method they used and propose an alternative one which leads to physically acceptable uncertainty product and to complex x and p expectation values but describe the classical motion. We used, for this situation, a linear pseudo hermitian invariant operator which allow us to solve analytically the time-depend…
The concept of weak invariant is introduced. Then, the weak invariants associated with time-dependent quantum dissipative systems are discussed in the context of master equations of the Lindblad type. In particular, with the help of the su(1,1) Lie-algebraic structure, the weak invariant is explicitly constructed for the quantum damped harmonic oscillator with the time-dependent frequency and friction coefficient. This generalizes the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant to the case of nonunitary dynamics in the Markovian approximation.
New families of time-dependent potentials related to the parametric oscillator are introduced. This is achieved by introducing some general time-dependent operators that factorize the appropriate constant of motion (quantum invariant) of the parametric oscillator, leading to new families of quantum invariants that are almost-isospectral to the initial one. Then, the respective time-dependent Hamiltonians are constructed, and the solutions of the Schrödinger equation are determined from the intertwining relationships and by finding the appropriate time-dependent complex-phases of the Lewis-Ries…
In this paper, we study the fast and noise-resistant population transfer, quantum entangled states preparation, and quantum entangled states' transition by constructing the shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP) for multiparticle based on the approach of "Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants" in distant cavity quantum electronic dynamics (QED) system. Numerical simulation demonstrates that all of the schemes are fast and robust against the decoherence caused by atomic spontaneous emission and photon leakage. Moreover, not only the total operation time but also the robustness in each scheme against decoh…
There exist a number of typical and interesting systems or models which possess three-generator Lie-algebraic structure in atomic physics, quantum optics, nuclear physics and laser physics. The well-known fact that all simple 3-generator algebras are either isomorphic to the algebra $sl(2,C)$ or to one of its real forms enables us to treat these time-dependent quantum systems in a unified way. By making use of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory and the invariant-related unitary transformation formulation, the present paper obtains exact solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equations …
We show a purely electronic cooling scheme to cool a charged mechanical resonator (MR) down to nearly the vibrational ground state by elaborately tuning bias gate voltages on the electrodes, which couple the MR by Coulomb interaction. The key step is the modification of time-dependent effective eigen-frequency of the MR based on the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant. With respect to a relevant idea proposed previously [Li et al., Phys. Rev. A 83, 043803 (2011)], our scheme is simpler, more practical and completely within the reach of current technology.
The ordinary Landau problem consists of describing a charged particle in time-independent magnetic field. In the present case the problem is generalized onto time-dependent uniform electric fields with time-dependent mass and harmonic frequency [1].The spectrum of a Hamiltonian describing this system is obtained. The configuration space wave functions of the model is expressed in terms of the generalised Laguerre polynomials. To diagonalize the time-dependent Hamiltonian we employ the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants. To this end, we introduce an unitary transformation in the framework of…
We propose and explore a scheme that leads to an infinite series of time- dependent Dyson maps which associate different Hermitian Hamiltonians to a uniquely specified time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. We identify the underlying sym- metries responsible for this feature respected by various Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants. The latter are used to facilitate the explicit construction of the Dyson maps and metric oper- ators. As a concrete example for which the scheme is worked out in detail we present a two-dimensional system of oscillators that are coupled to each other in a non-Hermitian P…
Shortcut to Adiabatic Passage (SHAPE) technique, in the context of coherent control of atomic systems has gained considerable attention in last few years. It is primarily because of its ability to manipulate population among the quantum states infinitely fast compared to the adiabatic processes. Two methods in this regard have been explored rigorously, namely the transitionless quantum driving and the Lewis-Reisenfeld invariant approach. We have applied these two methods to realize SHAPE in adiabatic waveguide coupler. Waveguide couplers are integral components of photonic circuits, primarily …
A variety of dynamics in nature and society can be approximately treated as a driven and damped parametric oscillator. An intensive investigation of this time-dependent model from an algebraic point of view provides a consistent method to resolve the classical dynamics and the quantum evolution in order to understand the time-dependent phenomena that occur not only in the macroscopic classical scale for the synchronized behaviors but also in the microscopic quantum scale for a coherent state evolution. By using a Floquet U-transformation on a general time-dependent quadratic Hamiltonian, we ex…
We provide exact analytical solutions for a two dimensional explicitly time-dependent non-Hermitian quantum system. While the time-independent variant of the model studied is in the broken PT-symmetric phase for the entire range of the model parameters, and has therefore a partially complex energy eigenspectrum, its time-dependent version has real energy expectation values at all times. In our solution procedure we compare the two equivalent approaches of directly solving the time-dependent Dyson equation with one employing the Lewis-Riesenfeld method of invariants. We conclude that the latter…
