The fragmentation of projectile and spectator is studied at the different incident energies using isospin dependent QMD model with reduced isospin dependent cross-section. Different systems have been used for the analysis of fragment production(IMF). We have used enhanced constant isospin dependent cross-section to explain the experimental findings which is valid for soft equation of state. In addition to that we have tried to study the influence of density dependent symmetry energy on fragment production.
The present thesis deals with the theoretical study of multi-fragmentation and its related phenomena's like directed transverse flow, rapidity distribution, elliptical flow and nuclear stopping in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions for asymmetric colliding nuclei. We aim to discuss the role of Coulomb interactions, nuclear equations of state (NEOS) and various rapidity bins by taking mass asymmetry into account.
Based on an isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model we studied the influence of a medium correction of an isospin dependent nucleon nucleon cross section on the fragmentation at the intermediate energy heavy ion collisions. We found that the medium correction from an isospin dependent nucleon nucleon cross section increases the dependence of the fragmentation on the isospin effect of in-medium nucleon nucleon cross section, at the same time, the momentum dependent interaction (MDI) produces also an important role for enhancing the influence of the medium correction on the isospin ef…
The influence of medium correction from an isospin dependent nucleon nucleon cross section on the fragmentation and nucleon emission in the intermediate energy heavy ion collisions was studied by using an isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamical model (IQMD). We found that the medium correction enhances the dependence of multiplicity of intermediate mass fragment $N_{imf}$ and the number of nucleon emission $N_{n}$ on the isospin effect of the nucleon nucleon cross section, while the momentum dependent interaction (MDI) produces also an important role for enhancing the influence of the med…
The $ϕ$ meson productions in $Au+Au$ and/or $Pb+Pb$ collisions at AGS, SPS, RHIC, and LHC energies have been studied systematically with a hadron and string cascade model LUCIAE. After considering the energy dependence of the model parameter $α$ in string fragmentation function and adjusting it to the experimental data of charged multiplicity to a certain extent, the model predictions for $ϕ$ meson yield, rapidity, and/or transverse mass distributions are compatible with the experimental data at AGS, SPS and RHIC energies. A calculation for $Pb+Pb$ collisions at LHC energy is given as well. Th…
We studied the influence of a momentum dependent interaction in the context of isopspin effects on fragmentation and dissipation in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions by using an isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model. It is shown that the nuclear stopping, the number of nucleons emitted ,and the multiplicity of intermediate mass fragments are larger with a momentum dependent interaction than without. In particular, the differences for these observables, when using an isospin dependent in-medium nucleon nucleon cross section versus an isospin independent one, are also larger …
Based on the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model, we aim to understand the effect of target fragmentation on various quantities i.e. collision rate, fragments multiplicity etc by simulating the collision between $Au^{197}$ projectile and $C^{12}$, $Al^{26}$, $Cu^{63}$, and $Pb^{208}$ as targets at incident energy 600 MeV/nucleon. The collision geometry is varied from central to peripheral. Our results indicate the rise and fall in the production of intermediate mass fragments with ${Z_{bound}}$ which is in agreement with the experimental data of Aladin collaboration at lo…
A remarkably simple dependence of fragmentation cross-section on average binding energy has been established in experimental data. This dependence was empirically parametrised leading to a very useful formula for extrapolation. We find that the canonical thermodynamic model, which has been used in the past for successful computations of many observables resulting from multifragmentation, reproduces the salient fetures of fragmentation cross-sections of very neutron rich nuclei very well. This helps towards a theoretical understanding of the observed data.
Dynamics of the nuclear fragmentations and the charge exchange reactions in pion-nucleus collisions near the $Δ$(1232) resonance energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. An isospin, momentum and density-dependent pion-nucleon potential is implemented in the model, which influences the pion dynamics, in particular the kinetic energy spectra, but weakly impacts the fragmentation mechanism. The absorption process in pion-nucleon collisions to form the $Δ$(1232) resonance dominates the heating mechanism of target nucleus. The excitation e…
The fragmentation of projectile and spectator matter is studied at different incident energies using an isospin-dependent QMD model with reduced isospin dependent cross-section. The sensitivity of the production of fragments is analyzed using different parametrizations of density dependence of symmetry energy. We shall also highlight the collective response of the momentum dependent interactions(MDI) and symmetry energy towards the fragmentation of colliding nuclei at intermediate energies.
We report, for the first time, the dependence of the multiplicity of different fragments on the system size employing a quantum molecular dynamics model. This dependence is extracted from the simulations of symmetric collisions of Ca+Ca, Ni+Ni, Nb+Nb, Xe+Xe, Er+Er, Au+Au and U+U at incident energies between 50 A MeV and 1 A GeV. We find that the multiplicity of different fragments scales with the size of the system which can be parameterized by a simple power law.
The relationship between measured transverse energy, total charge recovered in the detector, and size of the emitting system is investigated. Using only very simple assumptions, we are able to reproduce the observed binomial emission probabilities and their dependences on the transverse energy.
Using the model of Nambu and Jona-Lasinio to provide a microscopic description of both the structure of the nucleon and of the quark to hadron elementary fragmentation functions, we investigate the transverse momentum dependence of the unpolarized quark distributions in the nucleon and of the quark to pion and kaon fragmentation functions. The transverse momentum dependence of the fragmentation functions is determined within a Monte Carlo framework, with the notable result that the average $P_\perp^2$ of the produced kaons is significantly larger than that of the pions. We also find that $<P_\…
We discuss limiting fragmentation within a few currently popular phenomenological models. We show that popular Glauber-inspired models of particle production in heavy ion collisions, such as the two-component model, generally fail to reproduce limiting fragmentation when all energies and system sizes experimentally available are considered. This is due to the energy-dependence of number of participants and number of collisions. We quantify this violation in terms of the model parameters. We also make the same calculation within a Color Glass Condensate scenario and show that the dependence of …
The effect of the density dependence of symmetry energy on fragmentation is studied using isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics model(IQMD) Model. We have used the reduced isospin-dependent cross-section with soft equation of state to explain the experimental findings for the system 79_Au^197 + 79_Au^197 for the full colliding geometry. In addition to that we have tried to study the collective response of the momentum dependent interactions(MDI) and symmetry energy towards the multifragmentation
Rise-Plateau Caloric curves for different Heavy Ion collisions have been obtained, in the range of experimental observations. Limit temperature decreases when the residual size is increased, in agreement with recent theoretical analysis of experimental results reported by other Collaborations. Besides, promptly emitted particles influence on temperature plateau is shown. LATINO binary interaction semiclassical model is used to reproduce the inter-nucleonic forces via Pandharipande Potential and fragments are detected with an Early Cluster Recognition Algorithm.
A model for projectile fragmentation is developed whose origin can be traced back to the Bevalac era. The model positions itself between the phenomenological EPAX parametrization and transport models like "Heavy Ion Phase Space Exploration" (HIPSE) model and antisymmetrised molecular dynamics (AMD) model. A very simple impact parameter dependence of input temperature is incorporated in the model which helps to analyze the more peripheral collisions. The model is applied to calculate the charge, isotopic distributions, average number of intermediate mass fragments and the average size of larges…
The Faddeev technique is employed to study the influence of both particle-particle and particle-hole phonons on the one-hole spectral function of 16O. The formalism includes the effects of nuclear fragmentation and accounts for collective excitations at a random phase approximation (RPA) level. The latter are subsequently summed to all orders by the Faddeev equations to obtain the nucleon self-energy. The results indicate that the characteristics of hole fragmentation are related to the low-lying states of 16O and an improvement of the description of this spectrum is required to understand the…
We test the influence of the Coulomb interaction on the thermodynamic and cluster generation properties of a system of classical particles described by different lattice models. Numerical simulations show that the Coulomb interaction produces essentially a shift in temperature of quantities like the specific heat but not qualitative changes. We also consider a cellular model. The thermodynamic properties of the system are qualitatively unaltered.
In this paper we use methods developed in Part 1 of The Dipion Cocktail, to fit the $p_t$ dependence of dipions for mid-central Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200 GeV. For the minijet fragmentation part we use PYTHIA fragmentation as described in Part 1. For the thermal resonance production we use an exponential growth behavior. The interference between the direct production of dipion pairs from non-resonance minijet fragmentation and re-scattering through resonance states gives a measure of the size of the re-scattering region. This size is contain in the $α$ parameter of Part1. We assum…
We present results of a phase space coalescence approach within the UrQMD transport and -hybrid model for a very wide range of beam energies from SIS to LHC. The coalescence model is able to qualitatively describe the whole range of experimental data with a fixed set of parameters. Some systematic deviations are observed for very low beam energies where the role of feed down from heavier nuclei and multi-fragmentation becomes relevant. The coalescence results are mostly very close to the thermal model fits. However, both the coalescence approach as well as thermal fits are struggling to simult…
Based on a microscopic transport model, we study the origin of nonstatistical Intermediate Mass Fragment ($IMF$) production in semicentral heavy ion collisions at the Fermi energies. We show that a fast, dynamical $IMF$ formation process, the {\it neck fragmentation mechanism}, can explain the experimentally observed features: deviations from Viola systematics and anisotropic, narrow angular distributions. It may be regarded as the continuation of the multifragmentation mechanism towards intermediate impact parameters. Its relation to other dynamical mechanisms, the induced fission and the abr…
Phase transitions of small isolated systems are signaled by the shape of the caloric equation of state e^*(T), the relationship between the excitation energy per nucleon e^* and temperature. In this work we compare the experimentally deduced e^*(T) to the theoretical predictions. The experimentally accessible temperature was extracted from evaporation spectra from incomplete fusion reactions leading to residue nuclei. The experimental e^*(T) dependence exhibits the characteristic S-shape at e^* = 2-3 MeV/A. Such behavior is expected for a finite system at a phase transition. The observed depen…
The isospin effect and isoscaling behavior in projectile fragmentation have been systematically investigated by a modified statistical abrasion-ablation (SAA) model. The normalized peak differences and reduced isoscaling parameters are found to decrease with ($Z_{proj}-Z$)/$Z_{proj}$ or the excitation energy per nucleon and have no significant dependence on the size of reaction systems. Assuming a Fermi-gas behavior, the excitation energy dependence of the symmetry energy coefficients are tentatively extracted from $α$ and $β$ which looks consistent with the experimental data. It is pointed ou…
We present new features of the transition from nuclear multifragmentation to neck fragmentation in semi-central heavy-ion collisions at Fermi energies as obtained within a microscopic transport model, Stochastic Mean Field (SMF). We show that along this transition specific hierarchy phenomena of some kinematic observables associated with the intermediate mass fragments develop. Their correlations with the dynamics of isospin degree of freedom, predicted by our calculations, open new possibilities to learn about the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy below saturation, as well as abou…
We study signatures of critical behavior in microscopic simulations of small, highly excited Lennard-Jones drops. We focus our attention on the behavior of the system at the time of fragment formation (which takes place in phase space) and compare the results with the corresponding ones obtained at asymptotic times (experimentally accessible). The four critical exponents ($τ$,$β$, $σ$ and $γ$) found at fragmentation time have shown to be stable against time evolution, indicating that the asymptotic stage reflects accurately the physics at fragmentation time. Even though evidence of critical be…
A scaling phenomenon in the cross section for fragments has been found in the projectile fragmentation reaction, and an empirical scaling formula is proposed by considering the dependence of cross section on the size and asymmetry of the reaction system and the fragment itself. Furthermore, the empirical scaling formula is used to predict the production of fragment in the $^{68}$Ni/$^{69}$Cu/$^{72}$Zn + $^9$Be reactions around 90$A$ MeV. Compared to the results calculated by the statistical abrasion ablation model and the {\sc epax3} parameterizations, the empirical scaling formula can better …
Theoretical calculations are performed to investigate the angular momentum and Coulomb effects on fragmentation and multifragmentation in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at Fermi energies. Inhomogeneous distributions of hot fragments in the freeze-out volume are taken into account by microcanonical Markov chain calculations within the Statistical Multifragmentation Model (SMM). Including an angular momentum and a long-range Coulomb interaction between projectile and target residues leads to new features in the statistical fragmentation picture. In this case, one can obtain specific correlation…
The fragment production in collisions of $^{48,50}$Ca+$^{12}$C at 50 MeV/nucleon are simulated via the Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IQMD) model followed by the {GEMINI code}. {By changing the diffuseness parameter of neutron density distribution to obtain different neutron skin size, the effects of neutron skin thickness ($δ_{np}$) on projectile-like fragments (PLF) are investigated. The sensitivity of isoscaling behavior to neutron skin size is studied, from which it is found that the isoscaling parameter $α$ has a linear dependence on $δ_{np}$. A linear dependence between $δ…
Multiple scattering, induced radiative energy loss and modified fragmentation functions of a heavy quark in nuclear matter are studied within the framework of generalized factorization in perturbative QCD. Modified heavy quark fragmentation functions and energy loss are derived in detail with illustration of the mass dependencies of the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal interference effects and heavy quark energy loss. Due to the quark mass dependence of the gluon formation time, the nuclear size dependencies of nuclear modification of the heavy quark fragmentation function and heavy quark energy loss…
We undertake a quantitative comparison of multi-fragmentation reactions, as modeled by two different approaches: the Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics (AMD) and the momentum-dependent stochastic mean-field (SMF) model. Fragment observables and pre-equilibrium (nucleon and light cluster) emission are analyzed, in connection to the underlying compression-expansion dynamics in each model. Considering reactions between neutron-rich systems, observables related to the isotopic properties of emitted particles and fragments are also discussed, as a function of the parametrization employed for the is…
We calculate the evolution of a jet shower due to medium induced splittings in the deep LPM regime. Due to the characteristic energy dependence of the formation time $t_{\rm form}(ω)= \sqrt{ω/\hat{\bar{q}}}$, the radiative break-up process exhibits turbulent characteristics, allowing for analytic predictions of various inclusive properties of the medium induced cascade in an inertial range of energies $T \ll ω\ll E$, where $E$ is the energy of the jet and $T$ is the temperature of the medium.
The in-medium modification of the scale dependence of the fragmentation function in dense matter, brought about by higher twist corrections to the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations, is derived. A phenomenologically motivated resummation is outlined which incorporates the next-to-leading twist single gluon emission kernel along with the vacuum emission kernel and provides an in-medium virtuality evolution of the final fragmentation function of a hard jet propagating through dense matter. The concept of a fragmentation function is generalized to include a dep…
High transverse momentum single (non-photonic) electrons are shown to be sensitive to the stopping power of both bottom, b, and charm, c, quarks in AA collisions. We apply the DGLV theory of radiative energy loss to predict c and b quark jet quenching and compare the FONLL and PYTHIA heavy flavor fragmentation and decay schemes. We show that single electrons in the p_T=5-10 GeV range are dominated by the decay of b quarks rather than the more strongly quenched c quarks in Au+Au collisions at sqrt{s}=200 AGeV. The {smaller} b quark energy loss, even for extreme opacities with gluon rapidity den…
