Discrepancy between periodic orbit theory and numerical calculation of a modified Kepler problem is cleared by a quantum mechanical calculation. The diagonal approximation already gives a good fit for the numerical calculation. A better result yet is gained by considering the coherent interference between the classical periodic orbits and the Balian-Bloch term. This approach produces improved results for the rectangular billiards as well.
Quantum jumps of saturation level rigidity and anomalous oscillations of level number variance in the semiclassical spectrum of a modified Kepler problem
Bistable mechanical vibration is observed in a cavity magnomechanical system, which consists of a microwave cavity mode, a magnon mode, and a mechanical vibration mode of a ferrimagnetic yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) sphere. The bistability manifests itself in both the mechanical frequency and linewidth under a strong microwave drive field, which simultaneously activates three different kinds of nonlinearities, namely, magnetostriction, magnon self-Kerr, and magnon-phonon cross-Kerr nonlinearities. The magnon-phonon cross-Kerr nonlinearity is first predicted and measured in magnomechanics. The sys…
The seminal work by T. Kazimierczuk et al. [Nature 514, 343 (2014)] has shown the existence of highly excited exciton states in a regime, where the correspondence principle is applicable and quantum mechanics turns into classical mechanics, however, any interpretation of exciton spectra based on a classical approach to excitons is still missing. Here, we close this gap by computing and comparing quantum mechanical and semiclassical recurrence spectra of cuprous oxide. We show that the quantum mechanical recurrence spectra exhibit peaks, which, by application of semiclassical theories and a sca…
The interplay between quantum-mechanical and classical evolutions in a chirped driven Rydberg atom is discussed. It is shown that the system allows two continuing resonant excitation mechanisms, i.e., a successive two-level transitions (ladder climbing) and a continuing classical-like nonlinear phase locking (autoresonance). The persistent $1:1$ and $2:1$ resonances between the driving and the Keplerian frequencies are studied in detail and characterized in terms of two dimensionless parameters $P_{1,2}$ representing the driving strength and the nonlinearity in the problem, respectively. The q…

Bertrand theorem permits closed orbits in 3d Euclidean space only for 2 types of central potentials. These are of Kepler-Coulomb and harmonic oscillator type. Volker Perlick recently extended Bertrand theorem. He designed new static spherically symmetric (Bertrand) spacetimes obeying Einsteins equations and supporting closed orbits. In this work we prove that the topology and geometry of these spacetimes permits to solve quantum many-body problem for any atom of periodic system exactly. The computations of spectrum for any atom of periodic system becomes analogous to that for hydrogen atom. In…
Current approaches to quantum gravity suggest there should be a modification of the standard quantum mechanical commutator, $[{\hat x} , {\hat p}] = i \hbar$. Typical modifications are phenomenological and designed to result in a minimal length scale. As a motivating principle for the modification of the position and momentum commutator, we assume the validity of a version of the Bender-Brody-Müller variant of the Berry-Keating approach to the Riemann hypothesis. We arrive at a family of modified position and momentum operators, and their associated modified commutator, which lead to a minimal…
The semiclassical Kepler-Coulomb problem and the quantum-mechanical Schrödinger-Coulomb problem are compared for their predictions of quadrupole E2 transitions. The semiclassical treatment involves an extension of previous work for the electric dipole transitions (Physical Review A 71, 020501), and rates are derived for $Δ\ell= 0, \pm 2$ transitions on the basis of the multipolar properties of the emitted radiation. For the quantum case a derivation is presented within the Schrödinger framework without reference to spin. Comparison of the E2 rates shows reasonable agreement, but not as good as…
