Directed transport of overdamped Brownian particles in an asymmetrically periodic tube is investigated in the presence of the tube wall vibration. From the Brownian dynamics simulations we can find that the perpendicular wall vibration can induce a net current in the longitudinal direction when the tube is asymmetric. The direction of the current at low frequency is opposite to that at high frequency. One can change the direction of the current by suitably tailoring the frequency of the wall vibration.
Polymers in confined spaces lose conformational entropy. This induces a net repulsive entropic force on the walls of the confining space. A model for this phenomenon is a lattice walk between confining walls, and in this paper a model of an adsorbing partially directed walk is used. The walk is placed in a half square lattice $L^2_+$ with boundary $\partial L^2_+$, and confined between two vertical parallel walls, which are vertical lines in the lattice, a distance $w$ apart. The free energy of the walk is determined, as a function of $w$, for walks with endpoints in the confining walls and ad…
We analyse a directed lattice vesicle model incorporating both the binding-unbinding transition and the vesicle inflation-deflation transition. From the exact solution we derive the phase diagram for this model and elucidate scaling properties around the binding-unbinding critical point in this larger parameter space. We also consider how the phase diagram changes when a perpendicular force is applied to the end of a directed vesicle.
We study a model of a semiflexible long chain polymer confined to a two-dimensional slit of width $w$, and interacting with the walls of the slit. The interactions with the walls are controlled by Boltzmann weights $a$ and $b$, and the flexibility of the polymer is controlled by another Boltzmann weight $c$. This is a simple model of the steric stabilisation of colloidal dispersions by polymers in solution. We solve the model exactly and compute various quantities in $(a,b,c)$-space, including the free energy and the force exerted by the polymer on the walls of the slit. In some cases these qu…
We present an exact solution for the height distribution of the KPZ equation at any time $t$ in a half space with flat initial condition. This is equivalent to obtaining the free energy distribution of a polymer of length $t$ pinned at a wall at a single point. In the large $t$ limit a binding transition takes place upon increasing the attractiveness of the wall. Around the critical point we find the same statistics as in the Baik-Ben--Arous-Péché transition for outlier eigenvalues in random matrix theory. In the bound phase, we obtain the exact measure for the endpoint and the midpoint of the…
Monitored quantum dynamics reveal quantum state trajectories which exhibit a rich phenomenology of entanglement structures, including a transition from a weakly-monitored volume law entangled phase to a strongly-monitored area law phase. For one-dimensional hybrid circuits with both random unitary dynamics and interspersed measurements, we combine analytic mappings to an effective statistical mechanics model with extensive numerical simulations on hybrid Clifford circuits to demonstrate that the universal entanglement properties of the volume law phase can be quantitatively described by a fluc…
