This is the second of two articles (independent of each other) devoted to the analysis of the path description of the states in su(2)_k WZW models. Here we present a constructive derivation of the fermionic character at level k based on these paths. The starting point is the expression of a path in terms of a sequence of nonlocal (formal) operators acting on the vacuum ground-state path. Within this framework, the key step is the construction of the level-k operator sequences out of those at level-1 by the action of a new type of operators. These actions of operators on operators turn out to have a path interpretation: these paths are precisely the finitized RSOS paths related to the unitary minimal models M(k+1,k+2). We thus unravel -- at the level of the path representation of the states --, a direct factorization into a k=1 spinon part times a RSOS factor. It is also pointed out that since there are two fermionic forms describing these finite RSOS paths, the resulting fermionic su(2)_k characters arise in two versions. Finally, the relation between the present construction and the Nagoya spectral decomposition of the path space is sketched.
Polynomial Fermionic Forms for the Branching Functions of the Rational Coset Conformal Field Theories $\widehat{su}(2)_{M}\times \widehat{su}(2)_{N}/\widehat{su}(2)_{M+N}$}
The states in the irreducible modules of the minimal models can be represented by infinite lattice paths arising from consideration of the corresponding RSOS statistical models. For the M(p,2p+1) models, a completely different path representation has been found recently, this one on a half-integer lattice; it has no known underlying statistical-model interpretation. The correctness of this alternative representation has not yet been demonstrated, even at the level of the generating functions, since the resulting fermionic characters differ from the known ones. This gap is filled here, with the…
We review the derivation of light-cone interaction vertices for fermionic and bosonic fields of arbitrary spin. The resulting amplitudes and their factorization properties are discussed. We then show how this symmetry-based approach works for theories with extended supersymmetry like N=4 Yang-Mills theory and N=8 supergravity.
We study matrix integration over the classical Lie groups $U(N),Sp(2N),O(2N)$ and $O(2N+1)$, using symmetric function theory and the equivalent formulation in terms of determinants and minors of Toeplitz$\pm$Hankel matrices. We establish a number of factorizations and expansions for such integrals, also with insertions of irreducible characters. As a specific example, we compute both at finite and large $N$ the partition functions, Wilson loops and Hopf links of Chern-Simons theory on $S^{3}$ with the aforementioned symmetry groups. The identities found for the general models translate in this…
We extend a 2d topological model of the gravitational path integral to include sums over spin structure, corresponding to Neveu-Schwarz (NS) or Ramond (R) boundary conditions for fermions. The Euclidean path integral vanishes when the number of R boundaries is odd. This path integral corresponds to a correlator of boundary creation operators on a non-trivial baby universe Hilbert space. The non-factorization necessitates a dual interpretation of the bulk path integral in terms of a product of partition functions (associated to NS boundaries) and Witten indices (associated to R boundaries), ave…
The Calogero-Sutherland model occurs in a large number of physical contexts, either directly or via its eigenfunctions, the Jack polynomials. The supersymmetric counterpart of this model, although much less ubiquitous, has an equally rich structure. In particular, its eigenfunctions, the Jack superpolynomials, appear to share the very same remarkable combinatorial and structural properties as their non-supersymmetric version. These super-functions are parametrized by superpartitions with fixed bosonic and fermionic degrees. Now, a truly amazing feature pops out when the fermionic degree is suf…
With a motivation to find a 2-d Lorentz-invariant solution of the AdS_5 x S^5 superstring we continue the study of the Pohlmeyer-reduced form of this theory. The reduced theory is constructed from currents of the superstring sigma model and is classically equivalent to it. Its action is that of G/H=Sp(2,2)xSp(4)/SU(2)^4 gauged WZW model deformed by an integrable potential and coupled to fermions. This theory is UV finite and is conjectured to be related to the superstring theory also at the quantum level. Expanded near the trivial vacuum it has the same elementary excitations (8+8 massive boso…
We present a review of the spin Hurwitz numbers, which count the ramified coverings with spin structures. They are related to peculiar $Q$ Schur functions, which are actually related to characters of the Sergeev group. This allows one to put the whole story into the modern context of matrix models and integrable hierarchies. Hurwitz partition functions are actually broader than conventional $τ$-functions, but reduce to them in particular circumstances. We explain, how a special $d$-soliton $τ$-functions of KdV and Veselov-Novikov hierarchies generate the spin Hurwitz numbers $H^\pm\left( Γ^r_d…
