We present the photometric catalogs for the star-forming cluster NGC 602 in the wing of the Small Magellanic Cloud covering a range of wavelengths from optical HST/ACS (F555W, F814W) and SMARTS/ANDICAM (V, I) to infrared (Spitzer/IRAC 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8 micron and MIPS 24 micron). Combining this with IRSF (InfraRed Survey Facility) near-infrared photometry (J, H, Ks), we compare the young main sequence (MS) and pre-main sequence (PMS) populations prominent in the optical with the current young stellar object (YSO) populations revealed by the infrared (IR). We analyze the MS and PMS population with isochrones in color-magnitude diagrams to derive ages and masses. The optical data reveal ~565 PMS candidates, low mass Stage III YSOs. We characterize ~40 YSOs by fitting their spectral energy distributions (SEDs) to a grid of models (Robitaille et al. 2007) to derive luminosities, masses and evolutionary phase (Stage I-III). The higher resolution HST images reveal that ~70% of the YSO candidates are either multiples or protoclusters. For YSOs and PMS sources found in common, we find a consistency in the masses derived. We use the YSO mass function to derive a present-day star-formation rate of ~0.2-1.0 Msun/yr/kpc^2, similar to the rate derived from the optical star formation history suggesting a constant star formation rate for this region. We demonstrate a progression of star formation from the optical star cluster center to the edge of the star forming dust cloud. We derive lifetimes of a few 10^5 years for the YSO Stages I and II.
We used high-resolution optical HST/WFC3 and multi-conjugate adaptive optics assisted GEMINI GeMS/GSAOI observations in the near-infrared to investigate the physical properties of the globular cluster NGC 6569 in the Galactic bulge. We have obtained the deepest purely NIR color-magnitude diagram published so far for this cluster using ground-based observations, reaching $K_{s}$ $\approx$ 21.0 mag (two magnitudes below the main-sequence turn-off point). By combining the two datasets secured at two different epochs, we determined relative proper motions for a large sample of individual stars in …
The iconic planetary nebula (PN) NGC 7027 is bright, nearby (D ~ 1 kpc), highly ionized, intricately structured, and well observed. This nebula is hence an ideal case study for understanding PN shaping and evolution processes. Accordingly, we have conducted a comprehensive imaging survey of NGC 7027 comprised of twelve HST Wide Field Camera 3 images in narrow-band and continuum filters spanning the wavelength range 0.243--1.67 microns. The resulting panchromatic image suite reveals the spatial distributions of emission lines covering low-ionization species such as singly ionized Fe, N, and Si,…
We present the results of a comprehensive, near-UV-to-near-IR Hubble Space Telescope WFC3 imaging study of the young planetary nebula (PN) NGC 6302, the archetype of the class of extreme bi-lobed, pinched-waist PNe that are rich in dust and molecular gas. The new WFC3 emission-line image suite clearly defines the dusty toroidal equatorial structure that bisects NGC 6302's polar lobes, and the fine structures (clumps, knots, and filaments) within the lobes. The most striking aspect of the new WFC3 image suite is the bright, S-shaped 1.64 micron [Fe II] emission that traces the southern interior…
Aims: We present an analysis of simultaneously observed CoRoT and Spitzer lightcurves for $4$ systems in the stellar forming region NGC 2264: Mon-660, Mon-811, Mon-1140 and Mon-1308. These objects share in common a high resemblance between the optical and infrared lightcurves, such that the mechanism responsible to produce them is the same. The aim of this paper is to explain both lightcurves simultaneously with only one mechanism. Methods: We have modeled the infrared emission as coming from a warp composed of an optically thick wall and an optically thick asymmetric disk beyond this location…
We present $Spitzer$ IRAC mid-infrared point source catalogs for mosaics covering the fields of the nearby ($\lesssim$4 Mpc) galaxies NGC 55, NGC 253, NGC 2366, NGC 4214, and NGC 5253. We detect a total of 20159 sources in these five fields. Point spread function photometry was performed on sources detected in both $Spitzer$ IRAC 3.6 $μ$m and 4.5 $μ$m bands at greater than 3$σ$ above background. These data were then supplemented by aperture photometry in the IRAC 5.8 $μ$m and 8.0 $μ$m bands conducted at the positions of the shorter wavelength sources. For sources with no detected object in the…
CSI 2264: Simultaneous optical and infrared light curves of young disk-bearing stars in NGC 2264 with CoRoT and Spitzer-- evidence for multiple origins of variability
Large scale spectral maps of star forming regions enable the comparative study of the gas excitation around an ensemble of sources at a common frame of reference, providing direct insights in the multitude of processes involved. In this paper we employ spectral-line maps to decipher the excitation, the kinematical and dynamical processes in NGC 1333 as revealed by a number of different emission lines, aiming to set a reference for the applicability of tracers in constraining diverse physical processes. We reconstruct line maps for H$_2$ , CO, H$_2$O and C$^+$ using data obtained with the Spitz…
We present a comprehensive study of massive young stellar objects (YSOs) in the metal-poor galaxy NGC 6822 using IRAC and MIPS data obtained from the {\em Spitzer Space Telescope}. We find over 500 new YSO candidates in seven massive star-formation regions; these sources were selected using six colour-magnitude cuts. Via spectral energy distribution fitting to the data with YSO radiative transfer models we refine this list, identifying 105 high-confidence and 88 medium-confidence YSO candidates. For these sources we constrain their evolutionary state and estimate their physical properties. The…
The brown dwarf population in the canonical star forming region NGC2264 is so far poorly explored. We present a deep, multi-wavelength, multi-epoch survey of the star forming cluster NGC2264, aimed to identify young brown dwarf candidates in this region. Using criteria including optical/near-infrared colours, variability, Spitzer mid-infrared colour excess, extinction, and Gaia parallax and proper motion (in order of relevance), we select 902 faint red sources with indicators of youth. Within this sample we identify 429 brown dwarf candidates based on their infrared colours. The brown dwarf ca…
The microlensing event OGLE-2015-BLG-0448 was observed by Spitzer and lay within the tidal radius of the globular cluster NGC 6558. The event had moderate magnification and was intensively observed, hence it had the potential to probe the distribution of planets in globular clusters. We measure the proper motion of NGC 6558 ($μ_{\rm cl}$(N,E) = (+0.36+-0.10, +1.42+-0.10) mas/yr) as well as the source and show that the lens is not a cluster member. Even though this particular event does not probe the distribution of planets in globular clusters, other potential cluster lens events can be verifi…
Hubble Tarantula Treasury Project: Unraveling Tarantula's Web. II. Optical and Near Infrared Star Formation History of the Starburst Cluster NGC 2070 in 30 Doradus
We have combined resolved stellar photometry from Hubble Space Telescope (\emph{HST}), \emph{Spitzer}, and \emph{Gaia} to identify red supergiant (RSG) candidates in NGC~6946, based on their colors, proper motions, visual morphologies, and spectral energy distributions. We start with a large sample of 17,865 RSG candidates based solely on \emph{HST} near-infrared photometry. We then chose a small sample of 385 of these candidates with Spitzer matches for more detailed study. Using evolutionary models and isochrones, we isolate a space where RSGs would be found in our photometry catalogs. We th…
We present Spitzer IRAC $3.6-8 μ$m and MIPS $24 μ$m point-source catalogs for M $31$ and $15$ other mostly large, star forming galaxies at distances $\sim3.5-14$ Mpc including M $51$, M $83$, M $101$ and NGC $6946$. These catalogs contain $\sim1$ million sources including $\sim859,000$ in M 31 and $\sim116,000$ in the other galaxies. They were created following the procedures described in Khan et al. (2015) through a combination of point spread function (PSF) fitting and aperture photometry. These data products constitute a resource to improve our understanding of the IR-bright ($3.6-24 μ$m) p…
We present Mon-735, a detached double-lined eclipsing binary (EB) member of the $\sim$3 Myr old NGC 2264 star forming region, detected by Spitzer. We simultaneously model the Spitzer light curves, follow-up Keck/HIRES radial velocities, and the system's spectral energy distribution to determine self-consistent masses, radii and effective temperatures for both stars. We find that Mon-735 comprises two pre-main sequence M dwarfs with component masses of $M = 0.2918 \pm 0.0099$ and $0.2661 \pm 0.0095$ $\rm{M}_{\odot}$, radii of $R = 0.762 \pm 0.022$ and $0.748 \pm 0.023$ $\rm{R}_{\odot}$, and eff…
We examine the mass-dependence of the velocity dispersion of stars in the young cluster NGC 6530 to better understand how it formed. Using a large sample of members we find that the proper motion velocity dispersion increases with stellar mass. While this trend is the opposite to that predicted if the cluster were developing energy equipartition, it is in agreement with recent N-body simulations that find such a trend develops because of the Spitzer instability. In these simulations the massive stars sink to the centre of the cluster and form a self-gravitating system with a higher velocity di…
