Quantum discord is a general measure of bipartite quantum correlations with a potential role in quantum information processing tasks. Spin clusters serve as ideal candidates for the implementation of some of the associated protocols. In this paper, we consider a symmetric spin trimer and a tetramer, which describe a number of known molecular magnets, and compute the quantum discord in the ground and thermal states of the clusters. The variations of the quantum discord as a function of anisotropy parameter, magnetic field and temperature are investigated. We obtain a number of interesting results such as a finite value of the quantum discord in the trimer ground state for which the pairwise entanglement is known to be zero, differences in the nature of some of the variations in the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic cases and discontinuous jumps in the magnitude of the quantum discord at first order quantum phase transition points. A remarkable feature that is observed is that the quantum discord completely vanishes only in the asymptotic limit of temperature $T\rightarrow\infty$. We further study the dynamics of the quantum discord and the pairwise entanglement at T=0 under the effect of a dephasing channel describing the interaction of the reduced spin cluster state with independent local environments. The QD is found to vanish asymptotically as $t\rightarrow\infty$. In the case of the spin trimer, the pairwise entanglement has a zero value at all times and reaches a zero value in a finite time in the case of the tetramer.
In order to explore the effect of external temperature $T$ in quantum correlation we compute thermal entanglement and thermal discord analytically in the Heisenberg $X$ $Y$ $Z$ model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction term ${\bm D} \cdot \left( {\bm σ}_1 \times {\bm σ}_2 \right)$. For the case of thermal entanglement it is shown that quantum phase transition occurs at $T = T_c$ due to sudden death phenomenon. For antiferromagnetic case the critical temperature $T_c$ increases with increasing $|{\bm D}|$. For ferromagnetic case, however, $T_c$ exhibits different behavior in the regions $|{\…
We investigate how the quantum correlations (quantum discord) of a two-qubit one dimensional XYZ Heisenberg chain in thermal equilibrium depends on the temperature (T) of the bath and also on an external magnetic field B. We show that the behavior of the thermal quantum discord (QD) differs in many unexpected ways from the thermal entanglement. For example, we show situations where QD increases with T when entanglement decreases, cases where QD increases with T even in regions with zero entanglement, and that QD signals a quantum phase transition even at finite T. We also show that by properly…
We investigate the pairwise thermal quantum discord in a three-qubit XXZ model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. We find that the DM interaction can increase quantum discord to a fixed value in the anti- ferromagnetic system, but decreases quantum discord to a minimum first, then increases it to a fixed value in the ferromagnetic system. Abrupt change of quantum discord is observed, which indicates the abrupt change of groundstate. Dynamics of pairwise thermal quantum discord is also considered. We show that thermal discord vanishes in asymptotic limit regardless of its initial valu…
We study thermal quantum discord (TQD) in the Heisenberg chain with spin site or magnetic impurity. The former one of which may induce inhomogeneous exchange interactions between the neighboring spins, while the latter one modelling a spin chain with nonuniform magnetic field. In contrast with one's traditional understanding, we found that the spin impurity can be used to enhance the TQD greatly for all the bipartition schemes of the chain, while the magnetic impurity located on one spin can make the TQD between the other two spins approaching its maximum 1 for the antiferromagnetic chain.
We investigate the non-equilibrium thermal quantum discord and entanglement of a three-spin chain whose two end spins are respectively coupled to two thermal reservoirs at different temperatures. In the three-spin chain, besides the XX-type nearest-neighbor two-spin interaction, a multi-spin interaction is also considered and a homogenous magnetic field is applied to each spin. We show that the extreme steady-state quantum discord and entanglement of the two end spins can always be created by holding both a large magnetic field and a strong multi-spin interaction. The results are explained by …
The ground state of a quantum spin chain is a natural playground for investigating correlations. Nevertheless, not all correlations are genuinely of quantum nature. Here we review the recent progress to quantify the 'quantumness' of the correlations throughout the phase diagram of quantum spin systems. Focusing to one spatial dimension, we discuss the behavior of quantum discord close to quantum phase transitions. In contrast to the two-spin entanglement, pairwise discord is effectively long-ranged in critical regimes. Besides the features of quantum phase transitions, quantum discord is espec…
In the framework of the theory of open systems, we give a description of quantum entanglement and quantum discord for two non-interacting modes embedded in a thermal environment. We describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian input states. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable squeezed thermal state remains separable for all times. In the case of an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place, for non-zero temperatures of the environment. The Gauss…
The thermal quantum discord (QD) is studied in a two-qubit Heisenberg XXZ system with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. We compare the thermal QD with thermal entanglement in this system and find remarkable differences between them. For instance, we show situations where QD decreases asymptotically to zero with temperature $T$ while entanglement decreases to zero at the point of critical temperature, situations where QD decreases with certain tunable parameters such as $D_z$ and $D_x$ when entanglement increases. We find that the characteristic of QD is exotic in this system and this pos…
In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the continuous-variable quantum entanglement and quantum discord for a system consisting of two noninteracting modes embedded in a thermal environment. Entanglement and discord are used to quantify the quantum correlations of the system. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable Gaussian state remains separable for all times. We study the time evolution of logarithmic negativity, which characterizes the degree of entanglement,…
The quantum discord, which quantifies the amount of quantum correlations present between parts of a system, is investigated for antiferromagnetic spin systems. The discord for a pair of spins in the many-spin ground state is related to the diagonal and off-diagonal spin-spin correlation functions and the local magnetization. For isotropic and translationally invariant states, the discord is shown to be a function of the diagonal correlation function only. Thus, near a thermal/quantum critical point, the discord for a pair of spins shows long-range behavior, analogously of the correlation funct…
We investigate the quantum discord dynamics and inversion operator of a two-level atom initially in thermal equilibrium mixed state interacting with a cavity field prepared in a n-photon Fock state. We considered the Jaynes-Cummings model which is an exactly quantum mechanical model of interaction between two different quantum systems, an optical cavity in single mode n-photon Fock state and a two-level atom. The influence of interaction time and measurement basis used for calculating the conditional entropy is discussed on the evolution of the quantum discord and on its minimum. The evolution…
We study the quantum discord (QD) and the classical correlations (CC) in a reference model for strongly correlated electrons, the one-dimensional bond-charge extended Hubbard model. We show that the comparison of QD and CC and of their derivatives in the direct and reciprocal lattice allows one to efficiently inspect the structure of two-point driven quantum phase transitions (QPTs), discriminating those at which off diagonal long range order (ODLRO) is involved. Moreover we observe that QD between pair of sites is a monotonic function of ODLRO, thus establishing a direct relation between the …
Quantum discord quantifies how much Alice's system is disrupted after a measurement is performed on Bob's. Conceptually, this behavior acts the same way as quantum steering and we find that the discord grows with better steering from Bob to Alice. Using Venn diagrams, the relations between the different classes of Gaussian continuous variable entanglement and the links to discord for the squeezed-thermal states are established. We identify a directional quantum teleportation task for each class of squeezed-thermal state entanglement, and establish a unified signature for quantum steering, enta…
We study the process of heat transfer through an entangled pair of two-level system, demonstrating the role of quantum correlations in this nonequilibrium process. While quantum correlations generally degrade with increasing the temperature bias, introducing spatial asymmetry leads to an intricate behavior: Connecting the qubits unequally to the reservoirs one finds that quantum correlations persist and increase with the temperature bias when the system is more weakly linked to the hot reservoir. In the reversed case, linking the system more strongly to the hot bath, the opposite, more natural…
A type of two qubits Josephson charge system is constructed in this paper, and properties of the quantum discord (QD) as well as the differences between thermal QD and thermal entanglement were investigated. A detailed calculation shows that the magnetic flux $Φ_{Xk}$ is more efficient than the voltage $V_{Xi}$ in tuning QD. By choosing proper system parameters, one can realize the maximum QD in our two qubits Josephson charge system.
We investigate sudden change (SC) behaviors of the distance-based measures of geometric quantum discords (GQDs) for two non-interacting qubits subject to the two-sided and the one-sided thermal reservoirs. We found that the GQDs defined by different distances exhibit different SCs, and thus the SCs are the combined result of the chosen discord measure and the property of a state. We also found that the thermal reservoir may generate states having different orderings related to different GQDs. These inherent differences of the GQDs reveal that they are incompatible in characterizing quantum cor…
Entanglement (EN) is a determinative correlation in designation of quantum gates and quantum memories. All quantum operations which are assembled by quantum circuits, are exposed to environment. However, quantum discord (QD) as a new key of resource for quantum information theory is in spotlight of research. Therefore, the study of EN and QD in open quantum systems seems to be important. In this Brief Report, We derived a formula for specific heat of the principle system as a part of open quantum system (in special for Jaynes-Cumming regime), and we looked for relations between entanglement an…
Nonclassical correlations beyond entanglement might provide a resource in quantum information tasks, such as quantum computation or quantum metrology. Quantum discord is a measure of nonclassical correlations, to which entanglement belongs as a subset. Exploring the operational meaning of quantum discord as a resource in quantum information processing tasks, such as quantum metrology, is of essential importance to our understanding of nonclassical correlations. In our recent work [Phys. Rev. A, 98, 012115 (2018)], we considered a protocol---which we call the greedy local thermometry protocol--…
In recent years the paradigm based on entanglement as the unique measure of quantum correlations has been challenged by the rise of new correlation concepts, such as quantum discord, able to reveal quantum correlations that are present in separable states. It is in general difficult to compute quantum discord, because it involves a minimization over all possible local measurements in a bipartition. In the realm of continuous variable (CV) systems, a Gaussian version of quantum discord has been put forward upon restricting to Gaussian measurements. It is natural to ask whether non-Gaussian meas…
We extend the quantum discord to continuous variable systems and evaluate Gaussian quantum discord C(ρ) for bipartite Gaussian states. In particular, for squeezed thermal states (STS), we explicitly maximize the extractable information over Gaussian measurements: C(ρ) is minimized by a generalized measurement rather than a projective one. Almost all STS have nonzero Gaussian discord: they may be either separable or entangled if the discord is below the threshold C(ρ)=1, whereas they are all entangled above the threshold. We elucidate the general role of state parameters in determining the disc…
In this paper we examine the decay of quantum correlations for the radiation field in a two-mode squeezed thermal state in contact with local thermal reservoirs. Two measures of the evolving quantum correlations are compared: the entanglement of formation and the quantum discord. We derive analytic expressions of the entanglement-death time in two special cases: when the reservoirs for each mode are identical, as well as when a single reservoir acts on the first mode only. In the latter configuration, we show that all the pure Gaussian states lose their entanglement at the same time determined…
We address the experimental estimation of Gaussian quantum discord for two-mode squeezed thermal state, and demonstrate a measurement scheme based on a pair of homodyne detectors assisted by Bayesian analysis which provides nearly optimal estimation for small value of discord. Besides, though homodyne detection is not optimal for Gaussian discord, the noise ratio to the ultimate quantum limit, as dictacted by the quantum Cramer-Rao bound, is limited to about 10 dB.
In this letter we study thermal quantum correlations as quantum discord and entanglement in bipartite system imposed by external magnetic field with Herring-Flicker coupling ie. $J(R)=1.642 e^{-2 R} R^{5/2}+O(R^{2}e^{-2R})$. The Herring-Flicker coupling strength is the function of $R$, which is the distance between spins and systems carry XXX Heisenberg interaction. By tuning the coupling distance $R$, temperature and magnetic field quantum correlations can be scaled in the bipartite system. We find the long sustainable behaviour of quantum discord in comparison to entanglement over the coupli…
The decoherence of quantum correlation is investigated in the Heisenberg spin system with the asymmetric anisotropic interactions. The quantum entanglement and discord are used to quantify the quantumness of the correlations. By the analytical and numerical methods, we find that quantum discord decays asymptotically in time under the effects of the independent local Markovian reservoirs. This is markedly different from the sudden change of the entanglement. Before the disappearance of the entanglement, the dynamic behaviour of quantum discord is very similar to that of the entanglement. It is …
Using the Gaussian Rényi-2 entropy, we analyse the behaviour of two different aspects of quantum correlations (entanglement and quantum discord) in two optomechanical subsystems (optical and mechanical). We work in the resolved sideband and weak coupling regimes. In experimentally accessible parameters, we show that it is possible to create entanglement and quantum discord in the considered subsystems by quantum fluctuations transfer from either light to light or light to matter. We find that both mechanical and optical entanglement are strongly sensitive to thermal noises. In particular, we f…
We consider quantum correlations and quantum discord phenomena for two-qubit states with $X$-type density matrices in the tomographic framework of quantum mechanics. By introducing different measurements schemes, we establish the relation between tomographic approach to quantum discord, symmetric discord, and measurement-induced disturbance. In our consideration, $X$-states appear as approximations of ground and low temperature thermal states of two coupled harmonic oscillators realized by nanoelectric $LC$-circuits. Possibilities for control the amounts of correlations and entropic asymmetry …
The quantum discord is used as measure of quantum correlations for two families of multipartite coherent states. The first family interpolates between generalized GHZ states and generalized Werner states. The second one is an interpolation between generalized GHZ and the ground state of the multipartite quantum system. Two inequivalent ways to split the system in a pair of qubits are introduced. The explicit expressions of quantum quantum discord in multipartite coherent states are derived. Its evaluation uses the Koashi-Winter relation in optimizing the conditional entropy. The temporal evolu…
We investigate evolution of quantum correlations in ensembles of two-qubit nuclear spin systems via nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. We use discord as a measure of quantum correlations and the Werner state as an explicit example. We first introduce different ways of measuring discord and geometric discord in two-qubit systems and then describe the following experimental studies: (a) We quantitatively measure discord for Werner-like states prepared using an entangling pulse sequence. An initial thermal state with zero discord is gradually and periodically transformed into a mixed state wi…
We discuss the behavior of quantum and classical pairwise correlations in critical systems, with the quantumness of the correlations measured by the quantum discord. We analytically derive these correlations for general real density matrices displaying $Z_2$ symmetry. As an illustration, we analyze both the XXZ and the transverse field Ising models. Finite-size as well as infinite chains are investigated and the quantum criticality is discussed. Moreover, we identify the spin functions that govern the correlations. As a further example, we also consider correlations in the Hartree-Fock ground …
In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of continuous variable quantum entanglement and quantum discord for a system consisting of two non-interacting non-resonant bosonic modes embedded in a thermal environment. We study the time evolution of logarithmic negativity, which characterizes the degree of entanglement, and show that in the case of an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, entanglement suppression takes place for all temperatures of the environment, including zero temperature. We analyze the t…
It is known from the analysis of the density matrix for bipartite systems that the quantum discord (as a measure of quantum correlations) depends on the particular subsystem chosen for the projective measurements. We study asymmetry of the discord in a simple physical model of two spin-1/2 particles with the dipole-dipole interaction governed by the XY Hamiltonian in the inhomogeneous magnetic field. The dependence of the above discord asymmetry on the Larmour frequencies at both T=0 (the ground state) and $T>0$ has been investigated. It is demonstrated, in particular, that the asymmetry is ne…
We present a thorough investigation of the phenomena of frozen and time-invariant quantum discord for two-qubit systems independently interacting with local reservoirs. Our work takes into account several significant effects present in decoherence models, which have not been yet explored in the context of time-invariant quantum discord, but which in fact must be typically considered in almost all realistic models. Firstly, we study the combined influence of dephasing, dissipation and heating reservoirs at finite temperature. Contrarily to previous claims in the literature, we show the existenc…
We study the harvesting of quantum and classical correlations from a hot scalar field in a periodic cavity by a pair of spatially separated oscillator-detectors. Specifically, we utilize non-perturbative and exact (non-numerical) techniques to solve for the evolution of the detectors-field system and then we examine how the entanglement, Gaussian quantum discord, and mutual information obtained by the detectors change with the temperature of the field. While (as expected) the harvested entanglement rapidly decays to zero as temperature is increased, we find remarkably that both the mutual info…
We review the main results and ideas showing that quantum correlations at finite temperatures (T), in particular quantum discord, are useful tools in characterizing quantum phase transitions that only occur, in principle, at the unattainable absolute zero temperature. We first review some interesting results about the behavior of thermal quantum discord for small spin-1/2 chains and show that they already give us important hints of the infinite chain behavior. We then study in detail and in the thermodynamic limit (infinite chains) the thermal quantum correlations for the XXZ and XY models, wh…
We examine the quantum discord between two spins in the exact ground state of finite spin 1/2 arrays with anisotropic XY couplings in a transverse field B. It is shown that in the vicinity of the factorizing field B_s, the discord approaches a common finite non-negligible limit which is independent of the pair separation and the coupling range. An analytic expression of this limit is provided. The discord of a mixture of aligned pairs in two different directions, crucial for the previous results, is analyzed in detail, including the evaluation of coherence effects, relevant in small samples an…
We investigate pairwise quantum correlation as measured by the quantum discord as well as its classical counterpart in the thermodynamic limit of anisotropic XY spin-1/2 chains in a transverse magnetic field for both zero and finite temperatures. Analytical expressions for both classical and quantum correlations are obtained for spin pairs at any distance. In the case of zero temperature, it is shown that the quantum discord for spin pairs farther than second-neighbors is able to characterize a quantum phase transition, even though pairwise entanglement is absent for such distances. For finite…
We extend the geometric measure of quantum discord, introduced and computed for two-qubit states in [B. Dakic, C. Brukner, and V. Vedral, Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 190502 (2010)], to quantify non-classical correlations in composite Gaussian states of continuous variable systems. We lay the formalism for the evaluation of a Gaussian geometric discord in two-mode Gaussian states, and present explicit formulas for the class of two-mode squeezed thermal states. In such a case, under physical constraints of bounded mean energy, geometric discord is shown to admit upper and lower bounds for a fixed valu…
Quantum systems unfold diversified correlations which have no classical counterparts. These quantum correlations have various different facets. Quantum entanglement, as the most well known measure of quantum correlations, plays essential roles in quantum information processing. However, it has recently been pointed out that quantum entanglement cannot describe all the nonclassicality in the correlations. Thus the study of quantum correlations in separable states attracts widely attentions. Herein, we experimentally investigate the quantum correlations of separable thermal states in terms of qu…
We introduce a measure of quantum correlations in the $N$-qubit quantum system which is invariant with respect to the $SU(2^N)$ group of transformations of this system. This measure is a modification of the quantum discord introduced earlier and is referred to as the unitary or $SU(2^N)$-invariant discord. Since the evolution of a quantum system is equivalent to the proper unitary transformation, the introduced measure is an integral of motion and is completely defined by eigenvalues of the density matrix. As far as the calculation of the unitary invariant discord is rather complicated computa…
In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of continuous variable Gaussian Rényi-2 (GR2) quantum discord for a system consisting of two non-interacting non-resonant bosonic modes embedded in a thermal environment. In the case of both an entangled initial squeezed vacuum state and squeezed thermal state, GR2 quantum discord has non-negative values for all temperatures of the environment. We describe also the time evolution of GR2 classical correlations and GR2 quantum mutual information of the quantum system. A…
Recently, we proposed a method for the local detection of quantum correlations on the basis of local measurements and state tomography at different instances in time [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 180402 (2011)]. The method allows for the detection of quantum discord in bipartite systems when access is restricted to only one of the subsystems. Here, we elaborate the details of this method and provide applications to specific physical models. In particular, we discuss the performance of the scheme for generic complex systems by investigating thermal equilibrium states corresponding to randomly generate…
We investigate the thermal effects on the sudden changes and freezing of the quantum and classical correlations of remote qubits in a cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED) network with losses. We find that the detrimental effect of the thermal reservoirs on the system can be compensated via an efficient coupling of the fiber connecting the two cavities of the system. Furthermore, for certain initial conditions, we find a double sudden transitions in the dynamics of Bures geometrical quantum discord. The second transition tends to disappear at a critical temperature, hence freezing the discord.…
We analyze the quantum discord Q throughout the low-temperature phase diagram of the quantum XY model in transverse field. We first focus on the T=0 order-disorder quantum phase transition both in the symmetric ground state and in the symmetry broken one. Besides it, we highlight how Q displays clear anomalies also at a non critical value of the control parameter inside the ordered phase, where the ground state is completely factorized. We evidence how the phenomenon is in fact of collective nature and displays universal features. We also study Q at finite temperature. We show that, close to t…
We examine the quantum correlations of spin pairs in the ground state of finite XY chains in a transverse field, by evaluating the quantum discord as well as other related entropic measures of quantum correlations. A brief review of the latter, based on generalized entropic forms, is also included. It is shown that parity effects are of crucial importance for describing the behavior of these measures below the critical field. It is also shown that these measures reach full range in the immediate vicinity of the factorizing field, where they become independent of separation and coupling range. …
Local unitary operations allow for a unifying approach to the quantification of quantum correlations among the constituents of a bipartite quantum system. For pure states, the distance between a given state and its image under least-perturbing local unitary operations is a bona fide measure of quantum entanglement, the so-called entanglement of response, which can be extended to mixed states via the convex roof construction. On the other hand, when defined directly on mixed states perturbed by local unitary operations, such a distance turns out to be a bona fide measure of quantum correlations…
A simple expression to compute the quantum discord between two orbitals in fermion systems is derived using the parity superselection rule. As the correlation between orbitals depends on the basis chosen, we discuss a special orbital basis, the natural one. We show that quantum correlations between natural orbital pairs disappear when the pairing tensor is zero, i.e. the particle number symmetry is preserved. The Hartree-Fock orbitals within a Slater determinant state, a Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov quasiparticle orbitals in a quasiparticle vacuum, or the ground state of a Hamiltonian with particle…
We study nonclassical correlations in propagating two-mode squeezed microwave states in the presence of noise. We focus on two different types of correlations, namely, quantum entanglement and quantum discord. Quantum discord has various intriguing fundamental properties which require experimental verification, such as the asymptotic robustness to environmental noise. Here, we experimentally investigate quantum discord in propagating two-mode squeezed microwave states generated via superconducting Josephson parametric amplifiers. By exploiting an asymmetric noise injection into these entangled…
Quantum and global discord in a spin-1 Heisenberg chain subject to single-ion anisotropy (uniaxial field) are studied using exact diagonalisation and the density matrix renormalisation group (DMRG). We find that these measures of quantum nonclassicality are able to detect the quantum phase transitions confining the symmetry protected Haldane phase and show critical scaling with universal exponents. Moreover, in the case of thermal states, we find that quantum discord can increase with increasing temperature.
The study of advanced quantum devices for energy storage has attracted the attention of the scientific community in the past few years. Although several theoretical progresses have been achieved recently, experimental proposals of platforms operating as quantum batteries under ambient conditions are still lacking. In this context, this work presents a feasible realization of a quantum battery in a carboxylate-based metal complex, which can store a finite amount of extractable work under the form of quantum discord at room temperature, and recharge by thermalization with a reservoir. Moreover, …
We study intraenvironmental classical and quantum correlations in a thermal machine, which is modeled as a driven quantum system coupled with thermal reservoirs. We compute the mutual information, the quantum discord, and the entanglement between two parts of the environment formed by oscillators centered around two different frequencies. We show that there are only two processes that generate time-extensive correlations in the long-time limit. First, there is a resonant process which is responsible for the transport of excitations between different environmental modes due to the absorption (o…
We study the effect of external electric bias on the quantum correlations in the array of optically excited coupled semiconductor quantum dots. The correlations are characterized by the quantum discord and concurrence and are observed using excitonic qubits. We employ the lower bound of concurrence for thermal density matrix at different temperatures. The effect of the Förster interaction on correlations will be studied. Our theoretical model detects nonvanishing quantum discord when the electric field is on while concurrence dies, ensuring the existence of nonclassical correlations as measure…
We discuss a generalization of the conditional entropy and one-way information deficit in quantum systems, based on general entropic forms. The formalism allows to consider simple entropic forms for which a closed evaluation of the associated optimization problem in qudit-qubit systems is shown to become feasible, allowing to approximate that of the quantum discord. As application, we examine quantum correlations of spin pairs in the exact ground state of finite $XY$ spin chains in a magnetic field through the quantum discord and information deficit. While these quantities show a similar behav…
Coherence arises from the superposition principle, where it plays a central role in quantum mechanics. In [Phys.Rev.Lett.114,210401(2015)], it has been shown that the freezing phenomenon of quantum correlations beyond entanglement, is intimately related to the freezing of quantum coherence (QC). In this paper, we compare the behaviour of entanglement and quantum discord with quantum coherence in two di erent subsystems (optical and mechanical). We use respectively the en-tanglement of formation (EoF) and the Gaussian quantum discord (GQD) to quantify entanglement and quantum discord. Under the…
In this Letter we exploit the recently-solved conjecture on the bosonic minimum output entropy to show the optimality of Gaussian discord, so that the computation of quantum discord for bipartite Gaussian states can be restricted to local Gaussian measurements. We prove such optimality for a large family of Gaussian states, including all two-mode squeezed thermal states, which are the most typical Gaussian states realized in experiments. Our family also includes other types of Gaussian states and spans their entire set in a suitable limit where they become Choi-matrices of Gaussian channels. A…
We review the theoretical and the experimental aspects regarding the quantification and identification of quantum correlations in liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) systems at room temperature. We start by introducing a formal method to obtain the quantum discord and its classical counterpart in systems described by a deviation matrix. Next, we apply such a method to experimentally demonstrate that the peculiar dynamics, with a sudden change behaviour, of quantum discord under decoherence, theoretically predicted only for phase-noise channels, is also present even under the effect o…
