We report results on J/psi-hadron azimuthal angular correlations in 200 GeV p+p collision in the STAR experiment at RHIC. The extracted B-hadron feed-down contribution to inclusive J/psi yield is found to be 10-25% in 4<p_T<12 GeV/c and has no significant center-of-mass energy dependence from RHIC to LHC. The p_T spectrum of charged hadron associated with high-p_T J/psi triggers on the away side is found to be consistent with that from di-hadron correlations. J/psi signal from partially produced Au+Au 39 GeV data will also be presented to demonstrate STAR's J/psi capability at RHIC low energy run.
We report a new measurement of J/psi, psi' and Drell-Yan cross-sections, in the kinematical domain $-0.425<y_{\rm cm}<0.575$ and $-0.5<\cosθ_{\rm CS}<0.5$, performed at the CERN-SPS using 400 GeV/c incident protons on Be, Al, Cu, Ag, W and Pb targets. The dependence of the charmonia production cross-sections on the size of the target nucleus allows to quantify the so-called normal nuclear absorption. In the framework of the Glauber model, this new measurement is combined with results previously obtained with the same apparatus, under different experimental conditions, and leads to a precise de…
We report the latest results of J/psi, psi(2S) and Upsilon production in the dielectron decay channel at mid-rapidity, from the STAR experiment. We present J/psi cross section measurements in p+p collisions at 200 and 500 GeV, as well as the first measurement of the psi(2S) to J/psi ratio at 500 GeV. We also show J/psi and Upsilon production in heavy ion collisions: J/psi nuclear modification factors (R_{AA}) in Au+Au collisions at 200, 62.4 and 39 GeV and in U+U collisions at 193 GeV, Upsilon R_{AA} in d+Au, Au+Au and U+U collisions at 200, 200 and 193 GeV, respectively. The results are compa…
The results on J/psi pT spectra in 200 GeV p+p and Au+Au collisions at STAR with pT in the range of 3-10 GeV/c are presented. Nuclear modification factor of high-pT J/psi is found to be consistent with no suppression in peripheral Au+Au collisions and significantly smaller than unity in central Au+Au collisions. The J/psi elliptic flow is measured to be consistent with no flow at pT < 10 GeV/c in 20-60% Au+Au collisions.
We report on the inclusive J/psi nuclear modification factor in p-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 5.02 TeV as a function of rapidity y and transverse momentum p_T. The experimental coverage extends down to p_T = 0 GeV/c in the three rapidity ranges accessible by ALICE (-4.46 < y_cms < -2.96, -1.37 < y_cms < 0.46, 2.03 < y_cms < 3.53). The obtained results as a function of rapidity are in agreement with theory predictions based only on shadowing or on coherent energy loss. At forward and backward rapidity, the psi(2S) measurement complements the J/psi results. The ratio between the psi(2S) and J/…
J/Psi production in p+p collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV has been Measured in the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) over a rapidity range of -2.2 < y < 2.2 and a transverse momentum range of 0 < pT < 9 GeV/c. The statistics available allow a detailed measurement of both the pT and rapidity distributions and are sufficient to constrain production models. The total cross section times branching ratio determined for J/Psi production is B_{ll} sigma_pp^J/psi = 178 +/- 3(stat) +/- 53(syst) +/- 18(norm) nb.
CDF has obtained new results on quarkonium production in p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. We report on measurements of Upsilon meson production, Upsilon(1S) production from Chi_b feeddown, and the production polarization of Upsilon(1S), J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons.
ALICE is the dedicated heavy-ion experiment at the LHC. Due to the unique particle identification capabilities of the central barrel detectors (|eta|<0.9), J/psi can be measured in the di-electron channel in the very demanding environment of central Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. In addition J/psi are measured at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) with a dedicated muon spectrometer. ALICE is the only LHC experiment with an acceptance for J/psi that reaches down to p_T=0 at both, mid- and forward rapidity. Preliminary results on the nuclear modification factor of the inclusive J/psi production at mid- an…
In the ALICE experiment, at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4), the production of heavy quarkonium states is measured via their mu+ mu- decay channels. We present the first measurement of inclusive J/Psi production, down to pT = 0, from Pb-Pb data collected at the LHC at sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV. Preliminary results on the nuclear modification factor (R_AA) and the central to peripheral nuclear modification factor (R_CP) show J/Psi suppression with no significant centrality dependence and an integrated R_AA(0-80%) = 0.49 \pm 0.03(stat.) \pm 0.11(syst.).
J/psi production is considered to be a sensitive probe of the properties of quark gluon plasma created in nucleus+nucleus collisions at RHIC. In this article, the recent analysis of mid-rapidity (|y| < 1) J/psi production via the dielectron decay channel in Au+Au (year 2007) and Cu+Cu (year 2005) collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV at STAR is reported. It is compared to STAR p+p results in order to study the nuclear modification factor as a function of transverse momentum and centrality. The results are compared to previously published data and available theoretical models.
The J/psi is considered to be among the most important probes for the deconfined quark gluon plasma (QGP) created by relativistic heavy ion collisions. While the J/psi is thought to dissociate in the QGP by Debye color screening, there are competing effects from cold nuclear matter (CNM), feed-downs from excited charmonia (chi_c and psi') and bottom quarks, and regeneration from uncorrelated charm quarks. Measurements that can provide information to disentangle these effects are presented in this paper.
The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has measured J/psi production for rapidities 2.2 < y < 2.2 in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. The J/psi invariant yield and nuclear modification factor R_AA as a function of centrality, transverse momentum and rapidity are reported. A suppression of J/psi relative to binary collision scaling of proton-proton reaction yields is observed. Models which describe the lower energy J/Psi data at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) invoking only J/psi destruction based on the local medium density would predict a significantly…
J/psi production has been measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)= 200 GeV over a wide rapidity and transverse momentum range by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC. Distributions of the rapidity and transverse momentum, along with measurements of the mean transverse momentum and total production cross section are presented and compared to available theoretical calculations. The total J/psi cross section is 3.99 +/- 0.61(stat) +/- 0.58(sys) +/- 0.40(abs) micro barns. The mean transverse momentum is 1.80 +/- 0.23(stat) +/- 0.16(sys) GeV/c.
We report the results on heavy quarkonium production in p+p and Au+Au collisions at midrapidity via the dielectron decay channel at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV from the STAR experiment at RHIC. Results on the J/psi p_T spectra in p+p collisions are presented for 2 < p_T < 10 GeV/c. The B-meson feed-down contribution to the inclusive J/psi yield has been obtained using the J/psi-hadron azimuthal angular correlation in p+p collisions, and is found to be 10-25% in the range 4 < p_T < 12 GeV/c. The p_T spectrum and nuclear modification factor for J/psi with p_T < 10 GeV/c is reported, along with results …
To understand the reliability of the charmonia suppression as a signature of the Quark-Gluon Plasma formation in nucleus-nucleus collisions it is important first to understand the details of the production of J/psi and psi' in pA interactions and the difference in the suppression of these two states. This report presents the results of the study by the NA50 collaboration of the J/psi and psi' production in pA interactions at 450 GeV beam energy and its dependence on rapidity. It is shown that the psi' suffers more suppression than the J/psi, which is consistent with a similar observation made …
This paper reports the measurement of J/psi meson production in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (pPb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The data samples used in the analysis correspond to integrated luminosities of 28 inverse picobarns and 35 inverse nanobarns for pp and pPb collisions, respectively. Prompt and nonprompt J/psi mesons, the latter produced from the decay of B mesons, are measured in their dimuon decay channels. Differential cross sections are measured in the transverse momentum range of 2 < pt < 30 GeV/c, and …
We present a new analysis of double charmonium production in e^+ e^- annihilation. The observation of the processes e^+ e^- -> J/psi eta_c, J/psi chi_c0, and J/psi eta_c(2S) is confirmed using a dataset more than three times larger than that of Belle's previous report, and no evidence for the process e^+ e^- -> J/psi J/psi is found. We perform an angular analysis for J/psi eta_c production and set an upper limit on the production of J/psi J/psi. Processes of the type e^+ e^- -> psi(2S) (cc)_res have been observed for the first time; their rates are found to be comparable to those of e^+ e^- ->…
Ratios of the Psi' over the J/psi production cross sections in the dilepton channel for C, Ti and W targets have been measured in 920 GeV proton-nucleus interactions with the HERA-B detector at the HERA storage ring. The Psi' and J/psi states were reconstructed in both the mu+mu- and the e+e- decay modes. The measurements covered the kinematic range -0.35 < x_F < 0.1 with transverse momentum p_T < 4.5 GeV/c. The Psi' to J/psi production ratio is almost constant in the covered x_F range and shows a slow increase with p_T. The angular dependence of the ratio has been used to measure the differen…
The study of the production of heavy quarkonium is crucial for a thorough understanding of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). This note reports the measurements of the Jψ, χ_c and double charm production cross section, and discusses the prospects for the J/psi polarization at LHCb.
Production of prompt J/psi meson pairs in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 4.7 inverse femtobarns. The two J/psi mesons are fully reconstructed via their decays into muon pairs. This observation provides for the first time access to the high-transverse-momentum region of J/psi pair production where model predictions are not yet established. The total and differential cross sections are measured in a phase space defined by the individual J/psi transverse momentum pt[J/ps…
We report on the production of J/psi mesons in 530 and 800 GeV/c proton - Be collisions in the Feynman-x range 0.0 < xf < 0.6. The J/psi mesons were detected via decays into opposite sign muon pairs. Differential distributions for J/psi production have been measured as functions of xf, pT^2, and cosine of the Gottfried-Jackson decay angle. These distributions are compared with results on J/psi production obtained in 515 GeV/c pion - Be collisions, measured by the same experiment, as well as with results from other experiments using incident protons.
A measurement of the J/psi and psi(2S) production cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 inverse picobarns. Using a fit to the invariant mass and decay length distributions, production cross sections have been measured separately for prompt and non-prompt charmonium states, as a function of the meson transverse momentum in several rapidity ranges. In addition, cross sections restricted to the acceptance of the CMS detector are given, which are not affected by the polarizatio…
We report a measurement of the production ratio of charged and neutral B mesons from Upsilon(4S) decays based on the ratio of efficiency-corrected yields for the charmonium modes J/psi K^+ and J/psi K^{0}_{S} with 81.9 fb^-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector on the Upsilon(4S) resonance at 10.580 GeV. We find a value of 1.006 +/- 0.036 (stat) +/- 0.031 (sys) for the ratio R^{+/0}=Gamma(Upsilon(4S) -> B^+ B^-)/Gamma(Upsilon(4S)->B^0 B^0bar).
ALICE measures the J/psi production at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.9) in the di-electron decay channel as well as at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4.0) in the di-muon decay channel. In both channels the acceptance goes down to zero transverse momentum. We present the rapidity dependence of the inclusive J/psi production cross-section and transverse momentum spectra.
The mid-rapidity (dsigma_(pN)/dy at y=0) and total sigma_(pN) production cross sections of J/Psi mesons are measured in proton-nucleus interactions. Data collected by the HERA-B experiment in interactions of 920 GeV/c protons with carbon, titanium and tungsten targets are used for this analysis. The J/Psi mesons are reconstructed by their decay into lepton pairs. The total production cross section obtained is sigma_(pN)(J/Psi) = 663 +- 74 +- 46 nb/nucleon. In addition, our result is compared with previous measurements.
Open heavy flavour and J/psi production are powerful tools to test pQCD calculations in proton-proton collisions in the new LHC energy regime. In addition, they provide the necessary reference for the ALICE heavy-ion program. The ALICE experiment at the LHC collected proton-proton collisions at sqrt{s} = 7 and 2.76 TeV in 2010 and 2011. We report here the latest results of open heavy flavour and J/psi production at both mid- and forward-rapidity via their various hadronic and leptonic decay channels. These include, among other topics, the first LHC result on J/psi polarization, multiplicity de…
Quasi-elastic (z >0.95) photo-production of psi' mesons has been observed at HERA for photon-proton centre-of-mass energies in the range 40 to 160 GeV. The psi' mesons were identified through their decays to l+l- and to J/psi pi+ pi-, where the J/psi subsequently decays to l+l-, the lepton l being either a muon or an electron. The cross-section for quasi-elastic photoproduction was measured to be [18.0 +- 2.8 (stat) +- 3.0(syst)] nb at a photon-proton centre-of-mass energy of 80 GeV. The ratio of the psi' to J/psi quasi-elastic cross-sections is 0.150 +- 0.027 (stat) +- 0.022 (syst).
Using the combined CLEO II and CLEO II.V data sets of 9.1 fb^{-1} at the Upsilon(4S), we measure properties of Psi mesons produced directly from decays of the B meson, where ``B'' denotes an admixture of B+, B-, B0, and B0bar, and ``Psi'' denotes either J/Psi or Psi(2S). We report first measurements of Psi polarization in B -> Psi(direct) X: alpha(J/Psi) = -0.30 {+0.07 -0.06 stat} {+-0.04 syst} and alpha(Psi(2S)) = -0.45 {+0.22 -0.19 stat} {+-0.04 syst}. We also report improved measurements of the momentum distributions of Psi produced directly from B decays, correcting for measurement smearin…
We have measured the differential cross section for the inclusive production of psi(2S) mesons decaying to mu^{+} mu^{-1} that were produced in prompt or B-decay processes from ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV. These measurements have been made using a data set from an integrated luminosity of 1.1 fb^{-1} collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. For events with transverse momentum p_{T} (psi(2S)) > 2 GeV/c and rapidity |y(psi(2S))| < 0.6 we measure the integrated inclusive cross section sigma(ppbar -> psi(2S)X) Br(psi(2S) -> mu^{+} mu^{-}) to be 3.29 +- 0.04(stat.) +- 0.32(syst.) nb.
The inclusive J/psi production cross-section and fraction of J/psi mesons produced in B-hadron decays are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, using 2.3 pb-1 of integrated luminosity. The cross-section is measured from a minimum pT of 1 GeV to a maximum of 70 GeV and for rapidities within |y| < 2.4 giving the widest reach of any measurement of J/psi production to date. The differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt J/psi are separately determined and a…
The ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions (sigma(Bc+) B(Bc+ to J/psi pi+))/ (sigma(B+) B(B+ to J/psi K+)) is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The kinematic region investigated requires Bc+/- and B+/- mesons with transverse momentum pt > 15 GeV and rapidity abs(y) < 1.6. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 inverse femtobarns. The ratio is determined to be [0.48 +/- 0.05 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) +/- 0.05 (tau_{Bc})]% The J/psi pi+/- pi+/- pi-/+ decay mode is also observed …
The production of J/psi mesons is studied in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement is based on a dimuon sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 314 inverse nanobarns. The J/psi differential cross section is determined, as a function of the J/psi transverse momentum, in three rapidity ranges. A fit to the decay length distribution is used to separate the prompt from the non-prompt (b hadron to J/psi) component. Integrated over J/psi transverse momentum from 6.5 to 30 GeV/c and over rapidity in the range |y| < 2.4, the measured cross secti…
We proceed for the first time to the evaluation of the Born cross section for J/psi+eta(c) production, namely via g+g -> J/psi+eta(c)+g, and show that it has a harder P_T spectrum than the J/psi-pair yield at Born level. If one stuck to a comparison at Born level, one would conclude that J/psi+eta(c) production would surpass that of J/psi+J/psi at large P_T. This is nonetheless not the case since J/psi-pair production, as for single J/psi, receives leading-P_T contributions at higher orders in alpha_s. We also present the first evaluation of these leading-P_T next-to-leading order contribution…
The production process of quarkonia in proton-proton (pp) collision is a very good probe of the parton structure of the proton. Recent experimental data of the production of J/psi+vector boson or quarkonium pairs at the LHC and Tevatron suggest the relevance of double parton scatterings (DPS). We discuss here the single parton scattering (SPS) contribution to the J/psi +Z, J/psi +W, and J/psi +J/psi productions in hadron collisions. By revisiting the computations of the SPS contributions to the J/psi+Z and J/psi +W productions, we demonstrate that the ATLAS data in fact show evidence for DPS.
Using the ~ 6 pb-1 of e+e- annihilation data taken at psi-prime(3686) with CLEO III and CLEO-c detectors with estimated ~ 3.0 million psi-prime events, we have searched for the h_c(1^1P_1) state of charmonium in the reaction psi-prime(3686) -> pi^{0} hc -> (gamma gamma) (gamma eta_c). The preliminary results are reported.
Inclusive J/psi production in photon-photon collisions has been observed at LEP II beam energies. A clear signal from the reaction gamma gamma -> J/psi+X is seen. The number of observed N(J/psi -> mu+mu-) events is 36 +/- 7 for an integrated luminosity of 617 pb^{-1}, yielding a cross-section of sigma(J/psi+X) = 45 +/- 9 (stat) +/- 17 (syst) pb. Based on a study of the event shapes of different types of gamma gamma processes in the PYTHIA program, we conclude that (74 +/- 22)% of the observed J/psi events are due to `resolved' photons, the dominant contribution of which is most probably due to…
This paper presents the first measurement of the inclusive J/Psi production cross section in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5<|eta|<3.7 in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8TeV. The results are based on 9.8 pb-1 of data collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The inclusive J/Psi cross section for transverse momenta between 1 and 16 GeV/c is compared with theoretical models of charmonium production.
We give an overview of the present status of knowledge of the production of J/psi, psi' and Upsilon in high-energy hadron collisions. We first present two early models, namely the Colour-Singlet Model (CSM) and the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM). The first is the natural application of pQCD to quarkonium production and has been shown to fail dramatically to describe data, the second is its phenomenological counterpart and was introduced in the spirit of the quark-hadron duality in the late seventies. Then, we expose the most recent experimental measurements of J/psi, psi' and Upsilon prompt an…
We present results from the ALICE experiment on the inclusive J/Psi production in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=2.76 and 7 TeV. The integrated and differential cross sections are evaluated down to pT=0 in two rapidity ranges, |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4, in the dielectron and dimuon decay channel respectively. The measurement at sqrt(s)=2.76 TeV, the same energy as Pb-Pb collisions, provides a crucial reference for the study of hot nuclear matter effects on J/Psi production. The J/Psi yield in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV has also been studied as a function of the charged particle multiplicity and first …
The cross section for exclusive psi(2S) ultraperipheral production at the LHC is calculated using gluon parametrisations extracted from exclusive J/psi measurements performed at HERA and the LHC. Predictions are given at leading and next-to-leading order for pp centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 14 TeV, assuming the non-relativistic approximation for the psi(2S) wave function.
We report on the first measurement of J/Psi production as a function of charged particle pseudo-rapidity density dN_ch/d_eta in pp collisions at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. J/Psi mesons are detected down to p_T = 0 via their decays into e+e- pairs at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.9) and into mu+mu- pairs at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4). dN_ch/d_eta is measured within |eta| < 1. We compare results in the two different J/Psi rapidity ranges. Preliminary PYTHIA simulations are also presented.
We calculate the cross section of J/psi inclusive production in neutrino-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering via the weak neutral current within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics. Besides J/psi single production via the Z-gluon fusion mechanism, we also consider J/psi plus hadron-jet associated production. We take into account both direct production and feed-down from directly-produced heavier charmonia. We present theoretical predictions for the J/psi transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions, which can be measured in the CHORUS and NOMAD experiments at …
The process pp--> W + J/psi provides a powerful probe of the production mechanism of charmonium in hadronic collisions, and is also sensitive to multiple parton interactions in the colliding protons. Using the 2011 ATLAS dataset of 4.5 fb-1 of sqrt{s} = 7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC, the first observation is made of the production of W + prompt J/psi events in hadronic collisions, using W-->mu+nu and J/psi-->mu+mu. A yield of 27.4+7.5-6.5 W + prompt J/psi events is observed, with a statistical significance of 5.1 sigma. The production rate as a ratio to the inclusive W boson production rate i…
Using information on B-meson fragmentation functions from CERN LEP 1 and adopting the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism proposed by Bodwin, Braaten, and Lepage, we predict the transverse-momentum distribution of J/psi mesons originating from the inclusive decays of b hadrons produced in p p-bar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. We determine the relevant colour-octet charmonium matrix elements from fits to CDF data on prompt charmonium hadroproduction and to CLEO data on charmonium production from B-meson decay. Our predictions are found to agree well with recent CDF and D0 data.
Measurements of the dependence of the J/Psi production cross section on its kinematic variables as well as on the target atomic numbers for 920 GeV/c protons incident on different targets have been made with the Hera-B detector. The large collected di-lepton sample allows to study the production ratio of Psi(2S) to J/Psi and of Chic to J/Psi . We also report on measurements of the b-bbar and Upsilon production cross section.
We have used a study of the process e+e- --> mu+ mu- gamma at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(4S) resonance for a mu+ mu- invariant mass range near the J/psi mass to extract the cross section sigma(e+e- --> J/psi gamma --> mu+ mu- gamma). The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 88.4 fb-1, was collected using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II collider. We measure the product Gamma(J/psi --> e+e-)B(J/psi --> mu+ mu-) to be 0.330 +/- 0.008(stat) +/- 0.007(syst) keV. Using the world averages for B(J/psi --> mu+ mu-) and B(J/psi --> e+e-), we derive the J/psi electronic and tot…
We present a complete evaluation for $\jpsi(\psip)$ prompt production at the Tevatron and LHC at next-to-leading order in nonrelativistic QCD, including color-singlet, color-octet, and higher charmonia feeddown contributions. The short-distance coefficients of $\pj$ at next-to-leading order are found to be larger than leading order by more than an order of magnitude but with a minus sign at high transverse momentum $p_T$. Two new linear combinations of color-octet matrix elements are obtained from the CDF data, and used to predict $\jpsi$ production at the LHC, which agrees with the CMS data. …
We argue that the recent LHCb observation of J/psi-pair production indicates a significant contribution from double parton scattering, in addition to the standard single parton scattering component. We propose a method to measure the double parton scattering at LHCb using leptonic final states from the decay of two prompt J/psi mesons.
We present recent results on heavy flavour production at Tevatron Run II for typically ~1/fb of analysed proton-antiproton data at a c.m. energy of 1.96 TeV. This includes results on single and correlated open charm and bottom cross sections, charm pair production kinematics, J/psi, psi(2S) and chi cross sections and polarisation measurements in J/psi, psi(2S), Upsilon(1S), and Upsilon(2S).
Cross sections for the concurrent production of pairs of quarkonia (J/psi, Upsilon) and/or gauge bosons (W, Z) from double-parton scatterings (DPS) in high-energy proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC are calculated. The estimates are based on next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions, including nuclear modifications of the parton densities, for the corresponding single-scattering cross sections. Expected event rates for J/psi+J/psi, J/psi+Upsilon, J/psi+W, J/psi+Z, Upsilon+Upsilon, Upsilon+W, Upsilon+Z, and same-sign W+W production in their (di)leptonic decay modes…
The relativistic corrections to the productions of double J/psi, double Upsilon, and J/psi+Upsilon at the Tevatron and the LHC were investigated within the frame of nonrelativistic QCD. The ratios of short distance coefficients between relativistic correction and leading order result for color singlet and color octet states in large p_T limit are approximately -1,-11/3, respectively, for pair production. And for J/psi+Upsilon process the ratio is -11/6 for the CO channel. The K factors of relativistic corrections for color singlet and color octet double J/psi production are -0.23 and -0.84 wit…
This report is a short overview of experimental and theoretical results in J/psi production in electron-proton collisions at DESY HERA with special focus lying on recent developments in inelastic photoproduction.
We study inclusive heavy quarkonium production with definite polarizations in polarized proton-proton collisions using the non-relativistic QCD color-octet mechanism. We present results for rapidity distributions of cross sections and spin asymmetries for the production of J/psi and psi' with specific polarizations in polarized p-p collisions at \sqrt s = 200 GeV and 500 GeV at the RHIC within the PHENIX detector acceptance range.
To clarify the conflict between the theoretical predictions and experimental measurements of the inclusive J/psi production in Upsilon decay, We consider the alpha_s^6 order color-singlet contributions of processes Upsilon --> J/psi+gg and Upsilon --> J/psi+gggg. Both the branching ratio and J/psi momentum spectrum are calculated, and the branching ratio 4.7 x 10^{-4} is larger than the leading-order contribution (alpha_s^5, Upsilon --> J/psi+c\bar{c}g). Together with the QCD and QED leading-order contributions considered in our previous work, the color-singlet prediction of the branching rati…
The production of the X(3872) is studied in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, using decays to J/psi pi pi, where the J/psi decays to two muons. The data were recorded by the CMS experiment and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 inverse femtobarns. The measurements are performed in a kinematic range in which the X(3872) candidates have a transverse momentum 10 < pt < 50 GeV and rapidity abs(y) < 1.2. The ratio of the X(3872) and psi(2S) cross sections times their branching fractions into J/psi pi pi is measured as a function of pt. In addition, the fraction of X(3872) originating fro…
Data are presented on the reaction J/psi--> p pbar eta using 7.8 million J/psi triggers collected by the BEjing Spectrometer (BES). A partial wave analysis is performed. A clear enhancement near the p eta(pbar eta) threshold is observed. It is fitted with a JP=1/2- resonance with mass $M= 1530\pm 10$ MeV and width $Γ= 95\pm 25$ MeV. In addition, there is a peak around 1650 MeV with JP=1/2- preferred also, fitted with $M =1647\pm 20$ MeV and $Γ= 145^{+80}_{-45}$ MeV. These two N* resonances are believed to be the two well established states, S11(1535) and S11(1650), respectively. It is the firs…
The inelastic production of J/psi mesons in e p collisions has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 109 pb-1. The J/psi mesons were identified using the decay channel J/psi -> mu+ mu-. The measurements were performed in the kinematic range 2 < Q^2< 80 Gev^2, 50 < W < 250 Gev, 0.2 < z <0.9 and -1.6 < Ylab < 1.3, where Q^2 is the virtuality of the exchanged photon, W is the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, z is the fraction of the photon energy carried by the J/psi meson in the proton rest frame and Ylab is the rapidity of the J/psi in the laboratory …
We briefly review recent results which we have obtained in the study of J/psi+Z production at the LHC. Considering our NLO computation in the Colour Evaporation Model (CEM) as an upper theory limit for the single-parton-scattering contributions, we claim that the existing data set from ATLAS points at a dominant double-parton-scattering contribution with an effective cross section smaller than that for jet-related observables. As a side product of our analysis, we have computed, for the first time, the one-loop QCD corrections to the J/psi P_T-differential cross section in the CEM.
We have observed the reactions p+pbar --> p+X+pbar, with X being a centrally produced J/psi, psi(2S) or chi_c0, and gamma+gamma --> mu+mu-, in proton- antiproton collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using the Run II Collider Detector at Fermilab. The event signature requires two oppositely charged muons, each with pseudorapidity |eta| < 0.6, with M(mumu) in [3.0,4.0] GeV/c2, and either no other particles, or one additional photon, detected. The J/psi and the psi(2S) are prominent, on a continuum consistent with the QED process gamma+gamma --> mu+mu-. Events with a J/psi and an associated photon ca…
We briefly review the existing psi(2S) data taken at RHIC, the Tevatron and the LHC. We systematically compare them with colour-singlet-model predictions as a function of the center-of-mass energy, of the quarkonium rapidity and of the quarkonium transverse momentum. The overall agreement is good except for large transverse momenta. This points at the existence of large NNLO corrections or points at colour-octet dominance.
Cold nuclear matter effects on J/psi production in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions are evaluated taking into account the specific J/psi production kinematics at the partonic level, the shadowing of the initial parton distributions and the absorption in the nuclear matter. We consider two different parton processes for the c-cbar pair production: one with collinear gluons and a recoiling gluon in the final state and the other with initial gluons carrying intrinsic transverse momentum. Our results are compared to RHIC observables. The smaller values of the nuclear modification fact…
