Production of prompt J/psi meson pairs in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 4.7 inverse femtobarns. The two J/psi mesons are fully reconstructed via their decays into muon pairs. This observation provides for the first time access to the high-transverse-momentum region of J/psi pair production where model predictions are not yet established. The total and differential cross sections are measured in a phase space defined by the individual J/psi transverse momentum pt[J/psi] and rapidity abs(y[J/psi]): abs(y[J/psi]) < 1.2 for pt[J/psi] > 6.5 GeV; 1.2 < abs(y[J/psi]) < 1.43 for a pt threshold that scales linearly with abs(y[J/psi]) from 6.5 to 4.5 GeV; and 1.43 < abs(y[J/psi]) < 2.2 for pt[J/psi] > 4.5 GeV. The total cross section, assuming unpolarized prompt J/psi pair production is 1.49 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.13 (syst.) nb. Different assumptions about the J/psi polarization imply modifications to the cross section ranging from -31% to +27%.
We have measured the polarization of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons produced in p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using data collected at CDF during 1992-95. The polarization of promptly produced J/Psi [Psi(2S)] mesons is isolated from those produced in B-hadron decay, and measured over the kinematic range 4[5.5] < P_T < 20 GeV/c and |y| < 0.6. For P_T \gessim 12 GeV/c we do not observe significant polarization in the prompt component.
The double-differential cross sections of promptly produced J/psi and psi(2S) mesons are measured in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, as a function of transverse momentum pt and absolute rapidity abs(y). The analysis uses J/psi and psi(2S) dimuon samples collected by CMS, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.55 and 4.90 inverse femtobarns, respectively. The results are based on a two-dimensional analysis of the dimuon invariant mass and decay length, and extend to pt = 120 and 100 GeV for the J/psi and psi(2S), respectively, when integrated over the interval abs(y) < 1.2. The ratio o…
We have measured the differential cross section for the inclusive production of psi(2S) mesons decaying to mu^{+} mu^{-1} that were produced in prompt or B-decay processes from ppbar collisions at 1.96 TeV. These measurements have been made using a data set from an integrated luminosity of 1.1 fb^{-1} collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. For events with transverse momentum p_{T} (psi(2S)) > 2 GeV/c and rapidity |y(psi(2S))| < 0.6 we measure the integrated inclusive cross section sigma(ppbar -> psi(2S)X) Br(psi(2S) -> mu^{+} mu^{-}) to be 3.29 +- 0.04(stat.) +- 0.32(syst.) nb.
We present results from the ALICE experiment on the inclusive J/Psi production in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=2.76 and 7 TeV. The integrated and differential cross sections are evaluated down to pT=0 in two rapidity ranges, |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4, in the dielectron and dimuon decay channel respectively. The measurement at sqrt(s)=2.76 TeV, the same energy as Pb-Pb collisions, provides a crucial reference for the study of hot nuclear matter effects on J/Psi production. The J/Psi yield in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV has also been studied as a function of the charged particle multiplicity and first …
The polarizations of prompt J/psi and psi(2S) mesons are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, using a dimuon data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 inverse femtobarns. The prompt J/psi and psi(2S) polarization parameters lambda[theta], lambda[phi], and lambda[theta,phi], as well as the frame-invariant quantity lambda(tilde), are measured from the dimuon decay angular distributions in three different polarization frames. The J/psi results are obtained in the transverse momentum range 14 < pt < 70 GeV, in the r…
The ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions (sigma(Bc+) B(Bc+ to J/psi pi+))/ (sigma(B+) B(B+ to J/psi K+)) is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The kinematic region investigated requires Bc+/- and B+/- mesons with transverse momentum pt > 15 GeV and rapidity abs(y) < 1.6. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 inverse femtobarns. The ratio is determined to be [0.48 +/- 0.05 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) +/- 0.05 (tau_{Bc})]% The J/psi pi+/- pi+/- pi-/+ decay mode is also observed …
We have measured the polarizations of $\jpsi$ and $\psiprime$ mesons as functions of their transverse momentum $\pt$ when they are produced promptly in the rapidity range $|y|<0.6$ with $\pt \geq 5 \pgev$. The analysis is performed using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of about $800 \ipb$ collected by the CDF II detector. For both vector mesons, we find that the polarizations become increasingly longitudinal as $\pt$ increases from 5 to $30 \pgev$. These results are compared to the predictions of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics and other contemporary models. The effective po…
A measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions of the B[0,s] meson to J/psi f0(980) and to J/psi phi(1020) is presented. The J/psi, f0(980), and phi(1020) are observed through their decays to mu+ mu-, pi+ pi-, and K+ K-, respectively. The f0 is identified by requiring abs( M[pi+,pi-] - 974 MeV ) < 50 MeV. The analysis is based on a data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 inverse femtobarns. The measured ratio is B(B[0,s] to J/psi f0(980)) B(f0 to pi+ pi-) / B(B[0,s] to J/psi phi(1…
A measurement of the J/psi and psi(2S) production cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 inverse picobarns. Using a fit to the invariant mass and decay length distributions, production cross sections have been measured separately for prompt and non-prompt charmonium states, as a function of the meson transverse momentum in several rapidity ranges. In addition, cross sections restricted to the acceptance of the CMS detector are given, which are not affected by the polarizatio…
We report on the first measurement of J/Psi production as a function of charged particle pseudo-rapidity density dN_ch/d_eta in pp collisions at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. J/Psi mesons are detected down to p_T = 0 via their decays into e+e- pairs at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.9) and into mu+mu- pairs at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4). dN_ch/d_eta is measured within |eta| < 1. We compare results in the two different J/Psi rapidity ranges. Preliminary PYTHIA simulations are also presented.
The production of J/psi mesons is studied in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement is based on a dimuon sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 314 inverse nanobarns. The J/psi differential cross section is determined, as a function of the J/psi transverse momentum, in three rapidity ranges. A fit to the decay length distribution is used to separate the prompt from the non-prompt (b hadron to J/psi) component. Integrated over J/psi transverse momentum from 6.5 to 30 GeV/c and over rapidity in the range |y| < 2.4, the measured cross secti…
We present recent results on heavy flavour production at Tevatron Run II for typically ~1/fb of analysed proton-antiproton data at a c.m. energy of 1.96 TeV. This includes results on single and correlated open charm and bottom cross sections, charm pair production kinematics, J/psi, psi(2S) and chi cross sections and polarisation measurements in J/psi, psi(2S), Upsilon(1S), and Upsilon(2S).
The inclusive J/psi production cross-section and fraction of J/psi mesons produced in B-hadron decays are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi, using 2.3 pb-1 of integrated luminosity. The cross-section is measured from a minimum pT of 1 GeV to a maximum of 70 GeV and for rapidities within |y| < 2.4 giving the widest reach of any measurement of J/psi production to date. The differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt J/psi are separately determined and a…
We present a measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in B^+/- mesons decaying to J/psi K^+/- and J/psi pi^+/- where J/psi decays to mu^+ mu^-, using the full Run II data set of 10.4 fb^-1 of proton-antiproton collisions collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A difference in the yield of B^- and B^+ mesons in these decays is found by fitting to the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions resulting in asymmetries of ajpk =[0.59 +/- 0.37]%, which is the most precise measurement to date, and ajppi= [-4.2 +/- 4.5]%. Both measur…

Using fully reconstructed decays, we measure tau(Lambda_b) = 1.593 ^{+0.083}_{-0.078} (stat.) +- 0.033 (syst.) ps. This is the single most precise measurement of tau(Lambda_b) and is 3.2 sigma higher than the current world average.
The production of the X(3872) is studied in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, using decays to J/psi pi pi, where the J/psi decays to two muons. The data were recorded by the CMS experiment and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 inverse femtobarns. The measurements are performed in a kinematic range in which the X(3872) candidates have a transverse momentum 10 < pt < 50 GeV and rapidity abs(y) < 1.2. The ratio of the X(3872) and psi(2S) cross sections times their branching fractions into J/psi pi pi is measured as a function of pt. In addition, the fraction of X(3872) originating fro…
ALICE measures the J/psi production at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.9) in the di-electron decay channel as well as at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4.0) in the di-muon decay channel. In both channels the acceptance goes down to zero transverse momentum. We present the rapidity dependence of the inclusive J/psi production cross-section and transverse momentum spectra.
The B^0_s differential production cross section is measured as functions of the transverse momentum and rapidity in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, using the J/Psi phi decay, and compared with predictions based on perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading order. The data sample, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 40 inverse picobarns. The B^0_s is reconstructed from the decays J/Psi to an oppositely charged muon pair and phi to K+ K-. The integrated B^0_s cross section times B^0_s to J/Psi phi branching fraction in the range 8 < pt(B…

The branching fraction of this decay is measured, using the mode B+ to psi(2S) K+ as normalization, to be (4.0 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.6 (syst) +/- 0.2 (B)) x E-6, where the third uncertainty is from the measured branching fraction of the normalization channel.
We present a new analysis of double charmonium production in e^+ e^- annihilation. The observation of the processes e^+ e^- -> J/psi eta_c, J/psi chi_c0, and J/psi eta_c(2S) is confirmed using a dataset more than three times larger than that of Belle's previous report, and no evidence for the process e^+ e^- -> J/psi J/psi is found. We perform an angular analysis for J/psi eta_c production and set an upper limit on the production of J/psi J/psi. Processes of the type e^+ e^- -> psi(2S) (cc)_res have been observed for the first time; their rates are found to be comparable to those of e^+ e^- ->…
We measure the Lambda_b^0 lifetime in the fully reconstructed decay Lambda_b^0 -> J/psi Lambda^0 using 10.4 fb^-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The lifetime of the topologically similar decay channel B^0 -> J/psi K^0_S is also measured. We obtain tau(Lambda_b^0) = 1.303 +- 0.075 (stat.) +- 0.035 (syst.) ps and tau(B^0) = 1.508 +- 0.025 (stat.) +- 0.043 (syst.) ps. Using these measurements, we determine the lifetime ratio of tau(Lambda_b^0)/tau(B^0) = 0.864 +- 0.052 (stat.) +- 0.033 (syst.).
This paper presents the first measurement of the inclusive J/Psi production cross section in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5<|eta|<3.7 in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8TeV. The results are based on 9.8 pb-1 of data collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The inclusive J/Psi cross section for transverse momenta between 1 and 16 GeV/c is compared with theoretical models of charmonium production.
The process pp--> W + J/psi provides a powerful probe of the production mechanism of charmonium in hadronic collisions, and is also sensitive to multiple parton interactions in the colliding protons. Using the 2011 ATLAS dataset of 4.5 fb-1 of sqrt{s} = 7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC, the first observation is made of the production of W + prompt J/psi events in hadronic collisions, using W-->mu+nu and J/psi-->mu+mu. A yield of 27.4+7.5-6.5 W + prompt J/psi events is observed, with a statistical significance of 5.1 sigma. The production rate as a ratio to the inclusive W boson production rate i…
A first measurement of the top quark mass using the decay channel t to (W to l nu) (b to J/psi + X to mu+ mu- + X) is presented. The analysis uses events selected from the proton-proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns, with 666 t t-bar and single top quark candidate events containing a reconstructed J/psi candidate decaying into an oppositely-charged muon pair. The mass of the (J/psi + l) system, where l is an electron or a muon from W boson decay, is used to ext…
We present the observation of doubly-produced $J/ψ$ mesons with the D0 detector at Fermilab in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV. The production cross section for both singly and doubly-produced $J/ψ$ mesons is measured using a sample with an integrated luminosity of 8.1fb$^{-1}$. For the first time, the double $J/ψ$ production cross section is separated into contributions due to single and double parton scatterings. Using these measurements, we determine the effective cross section $σ_{eff}$, a parameter characterizing an effective spatial area of the parton-parton interactions and…
The ALICE experiment at the LHC has studied J/psi production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at sqrt{s}=7 TeV through its electron pair decay on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity L_int = 5.6nb-1. The fraction of J/psi from the decay of long-lived beauty hadrons was determined for J/psi candidates with transverse momentum p_t>1.3 GeV/c and rapidity |y|<0.9. The cross section for prompt J/psi mesons, i.e. directly produced J/psi and prompt decays of heavier charmonium states such as the Psi(2S) and Csi_c resonances, is sigma_prompt-J/psi(pt > 1.3 GeV/c, |y| < 0.9) = 8.3 +-…
A full angular analysis has been performed for the pseudo-scalar to vector-vector decays, B0 --> J/psi K* and B_s --> J/psi phi, to determine the amplitudes for decays with parity-even longitudinal and transverse polarization and parity-odd transverse polarization. The measurements are based on 190 B0 candidates and 40 B_s candidates collected from a data set corresponding to 89 inverse pb of pbarp collisions at root(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. In both decays the decay amplitude for longitudinal polarization dominates and the parity-odd amplitude is found to be small.
A measurement is presented of the relative prompt production rate of chi(c2) and chi(c1) with 4.6 inverse femtobarns of data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The two states are measured via their radiative decays chi(c) to J/psi + gamma, with the photon converting into a dielectron pair for J/psi rapidity abs(y(J/psi)) < 1.0 and photon transverse momentum pt(gamma) > 0.5 GeV. The measurement is given for six intervals of pt(J/psi) between 7 and 25 GeV. The results are compared to theoretical predictions.
We have observed the reactions p+pbar --> p+X+pbar, with X being a centrally produced J/psi, psi(2S) or chi_c0, and gamma+gamma --> mu+mu-, in proton- antiproton collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using the Run II Collider Detector at Fermilab. The event signature requires two oppositely charged muons, each with pseudorapidity |eta| < 0.6, with M(mumu) in [3.0,4.0] GeV/c2, and either no other particles, or one additional photon, detected. The J/psi and the psi(2S) are prominent, on a continuum consistent with the QED process gamma+gamma --> mu+mu-. Events with a J/psi and an associated photon ca…
The Lambda(b) differential production cross section and the cross section ratio anti-Lambda(b)/Lambda(b) are measured as functions of transverse momentum pt(Lambda(b)) and rapidity abs(y(Lambda(b))) in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurements are based on Lambda(b) decays reconstructed in the exclusive final state J/Psi Lambda, with the subsequent decays J/Psi to an opposite-sign muon pair and Lambda to proton pion, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 inverse femtobarns. The product of the cross se…
Using data samples collected at sqrt(s) = 3.686GeV and 3.650GeV by the BESII detector at the BEPC, the branching fraction of psi(2S) -> 3(pi+pi-) is measured to be [4.83 +- 0.38(stat) +- 0.69(syst)] x 10^-4, and the relative branching fraction of J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-) to that of J/psi -> mu+mu- is measured to be [5.86 +- 0.19(stat) +- 0.39(syst)]% via psi(2S) -> (pi+pi-)J/psi, J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-). The electromagnetic form factor of 3(pi+pi-) is determined to be 0.21 +- 0.02 and 0.20 +- 0.01 at sqrt(s) = 3.686GeV and 3.650GeV, respectively.
We report on the inclusive J/psi nuclear modification factor in p-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 5.02 TeV as a function of rapidity y and transverse momentum p_T. The experimental coverage extends down to p_T = 0 GeV/c in the three rapidity ranges accessible by ALICE (-4.46 < y_cms < -2.96, -1.37 < y_cms < 0.46, 2.03 < y_cms < 3.53). The obtained results as a function of rapidity are in agreement with theory predictions based only on shadowing or on coherent energy loss. At forward and backward rapidity, the psi(2S) measurement complements the J/psi results. The ratio between the psi(2S) and J/…
B-hadrons are an ideal tool for advancing our current understanding of the flavor sector of the Standard Model (SM). The study of B-meson production and decays is one of the key physics themes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) thanks to the large production rate and the fact that B-hadrons are relatively easy to trigger on and identify due to their long lifetime and decays to muons. This talk presents the cross section measurement for the exclusive final state Bs->J/psi phi and an evaluation of the decay branching fraction from the previously published exclusive-B production cross sections. B…
We report on a measurement of $b$-hadron lifetimes in the fully reconstructed decay modes B^+ -->J/Psi K+, B^0 --> J/Psi K*, B^0 --> J/Psi Ks, and Lambda_b --> J/Psi Lambda using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.3 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$, collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured lifetimes are $τ$B^+ = $1.639 \pm 0.009 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.009 {\rm (syst) ~ ps}$, $τ$B^0 = $1.507 \pm 0.010 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.008 {\rm (syst) ~ ps}$ and $τ$Lambda_b = $1.537 \pm 0.045 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.014 {\rm (syst) ~ ps}$. The lifetime ratios are $τ$B^+/$τ$B^0 = $1.088 \p…
We present a complete evaluation for $\jpsi(\psip)$ prompt production at the Tevatron and LHC at next-to-leading order in nonrelativistic QCD, including color-singlet, color-octet, and higher charmonia feeddown contributions. The short-distance coefficients of $\pj$ at next-to-leading order are found to be larger than leading order by more than an order of magnitude but with a minus sign at high transverse momentum $p_T$. Two new linear combinations of color-octet matrix elements are obtained from the CDF data, and used to predict $\jpsi$ production at the LHC, which agrees with the CMS data. …
Recent measurements of B hadron properties carried out in sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV p/p-bar collisions at the Tevatron are reviewed. Included are measurements of the Bc+ meson lifetime, using J/psi+l+X final states, and the mass, using J/psi+pi final states, a flavor specific measurement of the Bs0 lifetime in Ds+pi+X decays, simultaneous measurements of the Bs0 lifetime and lifetime difference in J/psi+phi decays, the first direct evidence and mass measurements of the Xi_b- baryon, and measurements of the polarization of 1S charmonium. For all measurements, charge conjugate modes are included.
Yields of prompt and non-prompt J/psi, as well as Y(1S) mesons, are measured by the CMS experiment via their dimuon decays in PbPb and pp collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV for quarkonium rapidity |y|<2.4. Differential cross sections and nuclear modification factors are reported as functions of y and transverse momentum pt, as well as collision centrality. For prompt J/psi with relatively high pt (6.5<pt<30 GeV/c), a strong, centrality-dependent suppression is observed in PbPb collisions, compared to the yield in pp collisions scaled by the number of inelastic nucleon-nucleon collisions. In th…
We present a new measurement of the e+e- -> J/psi ccbar cross section where the ccbar pair can fragment either into charmed hadrons or a charmonium state. In the former case the J/psi and a charmed hadron are reconstructed, while the latter process is measured using the recoil mass technique, which allows the identification of two-body final states without reconstruction of one of the charmonia. The measured e+e- -> J/psi ccbar cross section is (0.74 +- 0.08 + 0.09 - 0.08) pb, and the e+e- -> J/psi non-ccbar cross section is (0.43 +- 0.09 +-0.09) pb. We note that the measured cross sections ar…
We report the measurement of the transverse momentum dependence of inclusive J/psi polarization in p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV performed by the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC. The polarization is studied in the helicity, Gottfried-Jackson, and Collins-Soper frames for p_T < 5 GeV/c and |y| < 0.35. The J/psi polarization in the helicity and Gottfried-Jackson frames is consistent with zero for all transverse momenta, with a slight (1.8 sigma) trend towards longitudinal polarization for transverse momenta above 2 GeV/c. No conclusion is allowed due to the limited acceptance in the Collins-Soper …
The ratio between the prompt psi(2S) and J/psi yields, reconstructed via their decays into muon pairs, is measured in PbPb and pp collisions at sqrt(s[NN]) = 2.76 TeV. The analysis is based on PbPb and pp data samples collected by CMS at the LHC, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 150 inverse microbarns and 5.4 inverse picobarns, respectively. The double ratio of measured yields, (N[psi(2S)]/N[J/psi])[PbPb] / (N[psi(2S)]/ N[J/psi])[pp], is computed in three PbPb collision centrality bins and two kinematic ranges: one at midrapidity, abs(y) < 1.6, covering the transverse momentum range…
We present a study of the X(3940) state in the process e+e- -> J/psi D* Dbar. The X(3940) mass and width are measured to be (3942 +7 -6 +- 6)MeV/c^2 and Gamma=(37 + 26 - 15 +- 8 MeV. In the process e+e- -> J/psi D* D*bar we have observed another charmonium-like state, which we denote as X(4160), in the spectrum of invariant masses of D*+ D*- combinations. The X(4160) parameters are M= 4156 + 25 - 20 +- 15 MeV/c^2 and Gamma = 139 + 111 -61 +- 21 MeV. The analysis is based on a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 693 /fb recorded near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at…
We report the observation of the X(3872) in the J/psi pi+pi- channel, with J/psi decaying to mu+mu- in p-p(bar) collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. Using approximately 230 pb^-1 of data collected with the Run II D0 detector, we observe 522 +/- 100 X(3872) candidates. The mass difference between the X(3872) state and the J/psi is measured to be 774.9 +/- 3.1 (stat.) +/- 3.0 (syst.) MeV/c^2. We have investigated the production and decay characteristics of the X(3872), and find them to be similar to those of the psi(2S) state.
The prompt and non-prompt production cross-sections for the chi_c1 and chi_c2 charmonium states are measured in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using 4.5 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity. The chi_c states are reconstructed through the radiative decay chi_c -> J/psi gamma (with J/psi -> mu+mu-) where photons are reconstructed from gamma -> e+e- conversions. The production rate of the chi_c2 state relative to the chi_c1 state is measured for prompt and non-prompt chi_c as a function of J/psi transverse momentum. The prompt chi_c cross-sections are combined with …
We report the observation of prompt J/psi via double ccbar production from the e+e- continuum. In this process one ccbar pair fragments into a J/psi meson while the remaining pair either produces a bound charmonium state or fragments into open charm. Both cases have been observed: the first by studying the mass spectrum of the system recoiling against the J/psi, and the second by reconstructing the J/psi together with a charmed meson. We find cross-sections of σ(e+ e- -> J/psi eta_c (gamma)) * BR (eta_c -> >=4 charged) = 0.033 (+0.007 -0.006)(stat) \pm 0.009(syst)pb and σ(e+ e- -> J/psi D*+ X)…
Using data collected with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider at sqrt s = 3.97-4.26 GeV, we investigate 15 charmonium decay modes of the psi(4040), psi(4160), and Y(4260) resonances. We confirm, at 11$σ$ significance, the BaBar Y(4260) --> pi+ pi- J/psi discovery, make the first observation of Y(4260) --> pi0 pi0 J/psi (5.1 sigma), and find the first evidence for Y(4260) --> K+ K- J/psi (3.7 sigma). We measure e+e- cross-sections at sqrt s = 4.26 GeV as sigma(pi+ pi- J/psi) = 58 +12-10 +- 4 pb, sigma(pi0 pi0 J/psi) = 23 +12 -8 +- 1 pb, and sigma(K+ K- J/psi) = 9 +9 -5 +- 1 pb…
CDF has obtained new results on quarkonium production in p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. We report on measurements of Upsilon meson production, Upsilon(1S) production from Chi_b feeddown, and the production polarization of Upsilon(1S), J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons.
This paper presents a measurement of J/psi,psi(2S) differential cross sections in p-pbar collisions at square root s = 1.8 TeV. The cross sections are measured above 4 GeV/c in the central region (|eta| < 0.6) using the dimuon decay channel. The fraction of events from B decays is measured, and used to calculate b quark cross sections and direct J/psi,psi(2S) cross sections. The direct cross sections are found to be more than an order of magnitude above theoretical expectations.
The ALICE collaboration reports the measurement of the inclusive J/psi yield as a function of charged particle pseudorapidity density dN_{ch}/deta in pp collisions at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV at the LHC. J/psi particles are detected for p_t > 0, in the rapidity interval |y| < 0.9 via decay into e+e-, and in the interval 2.5 < y < 4.0 via decay into mu+mu- pairs. An approximately linear increase of the J/psi yields normalized to their event average (dN_{J/psi}/dy)/<dN_{J/psi}/dy> with (dN_{ch}/deta)/<dN_{ch}/deta> is observed in both rapidity ranges, where dN_{ch}/deta is measured within |eta| < 1 and p…
ALICE is the dedicated heavy-ion experiment at the LHC. Due to the unique particle identification capabilities of the central barrel detectors (|eta|<0.9), J/psi can be measured in the di-electron channel in the very demanding environment of central Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. In addition J/psi are measured at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) with a dedicated muon spectrometer. ALICE is the only LHC experiment with an acceptance for J/psi that reaches down to p_T=0 at both, mid- and forward rapidity. Preliminary results on the nuclear modification factor of the inclusive J/psi production at mid- an…
We present a study of the inclusive J/psi cross section at 2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV. The energy dependence of the cross section, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are evaluated phenomenologically. Their knowledge is crucial as a reference for the interpretation of A-A and p-A J/psi results at the LHC. Our approach is the following: first, we estimate the energy evolution of the pt-integrated J/psi cross section at mid-rapidity; then, we evaluate the rapidity dependence; finally, we study the transverse momentum distribution trend. Whenever possible, both theory driven (based on pQCD p…
The relative modification of the prompt psi(2S) and J/psi yields from pp to PbPb collisions, at the center of mass energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair, is presented. The analysis is based on pp and PbPb data samples collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2015, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 28.0 inverse picobarns and 464 inverse microbarns, respectively. The double ratio of measured yields of prompt charmonia reconstructed through their decays into muon pairs, (N[psi(2S)]/N[J/psi])[PbPb] / (N[psi(2S)]/N[J/psi])[pp], is determined as a function of PbPb collision centrality a…
We have observed bottom-charm mesons B_c via the decay mode Bc -> J/psi lepton neutrino in 1.8 TeV p-bar p collisions using the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. A fit of background and signal contributions to the J/psi + lepton mass distribution yielded 20.4 +6.2 -5.5 events from B_c mesons. A fit to the same distribution with background alone was rejected at the level of 4.8 standard deviations. We measured the B_c mass to be 6.40 +- 0.39 +- 0.13 GeVc^2 and the B_c lifetime to be tau(B_c) = 0.46 +0.18 -0.16 +- 0.03 ps. We measured the production cross section times branching ratio for B…
The first LHC measurement on ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions was carried out with the ALICE experiment. In this paper, ALICE results on exclusive J/psi studies in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV, in the rapidity region -3.6 < y < -2.6, are given. The coherent J/psi cross section was found to be dsigma/dy_coh_J/ψ= 1.00 +/- 0.18 (stat) +0.24 -0.26 (syst) mb. These studies favour theoretical models that include strong modifications to the nuclear gluon density, also known as nuclear gluon shadowing.
The CP-violating weak phase phi[s] of the Bs meson and the decay width difference Delta Gamma[s] of the Bs light and heavy mass eigenstates are measured with the CMS detector at the LHC using a data sample of Bs to J/Psi phi(1020) to mu+mu-K+K- decays. The analysed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns collected in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. A total of 49,200 reconstructed Bs decays are used to extract the values of phi[s] and Delta Gamma[s] by performing a time-dependent and flavour-tagged angular analysis of the mu+mu-K+K- final s…
In the ALICE experiment, at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4), the production of heavy quarkonium states is measured via their mu+ mu- decay channels. We present the first measurement of inclusive J/Psi production, down to pT = 0, from Pb-Pb data collected at the LHC at sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV. Preliminary results on the nuclear modification factor (R_AA) and the central to peripheral nuclear modification factor (R_CP) show J/Psi suppression with no significant centrality dependence and an integrated R_AA(0-80%) = 0.49 \pm 0.03(stat.) \pm 0.11(syst.).
We briefly review recent results which we have obtained in the study of J/psi-pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. We claim that the existing data set from CMS and D0 point at a significant double-parton-scattering contribution with an effective cross section smaller than that for jet-related observables. We have also derived simple relations involving feed-down fractions from excited states which can help in disentangling the single from the double scatterings.
The Collider Detector at Fermilab, CDF, observed for the first time in hadron-hadron collisions photon-photon to e+e- and mu+mu-, photon-pomeron to J/psi and psi(2S), and pomeron-pomeron to photon+photon and to chi_c. Exclusive pi+pi- production by double pomeron exchange was also measured at p+pbar CM energies 900 GeV and 1960 GeV, showing f0 and f2 resonance structures.
A measurement of the Lambda(b)0 lifetime using the decay Lambda(b)0 to J/Psi Lambda in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is presented. The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 5 inverse femtobarns, was recorded with the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using triggers that selected dimuon events in the J/Psi mass region. The Lambda(b)0 lifetime is measured to be 1.503 +/- 0.052 (stat.) +/- 0.031 (syst.) ps.
The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) has measured J/psi production for rapidities 2.2 < y < 2.2 in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. The J/psi invariant yield and nuclear modification factor R_AA as a function of centrality, transverse momentum and rapidity are reported. A suppression of J/psi relative to binary collision scaling of proton-proton reaction yields is observed. Models which describe the lower energy J/Psi data at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) invoking only J/psi destruction based on the local medium density would predict a significantly…
J/psi production is considered to be a sensitive probe of the properties of quark gluon plasma created in nucleus+nucleus collisions at RHIC. In this article, the recent analysis of mid-rapidity (|y| < 1) J/psi production via the dielectron decay channel in Au+Au (year 2007) and Cu+Cu (year 2005) collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV at STAR is reported. It is compared to STAR p+p results in order to study the nuclear modification factor as a function of transverse momentum and centrality. The results are compared to previously published data and available theoretical models.
