We present results of high-resolution, low-temperature measurements of the Hall coefficient, thermopower, and specific heat on stoichiometric YbRh2Si2. They support earlier conclusions of an electronic (Kondo-breakdown) quantum critical point concurring with a field induced antiferromagnetic one. We also discuss the detachment of the two instabilities under chemical pressure. Volume compression/expansion (via substituting Rh by Co/Ir) results in a stabilization/weakening of magnetic order. Moderate Ir substitution leads to a non-Fermi-liquid phase, in which the magnetic moments are neither ordered nor screened by the Kondo effect. The so-derived zero-temperature global phase diagram promises future studies to explore the nature of the Kondo breakdown quantum critical point without any interfering magnetism.
A-122 pnictides (A an alkaline earth element) possess striped antiferromagnetic states of orthorhombic (OR) symmetry and nonmagnetic states of tetragonal (T) symmetry. Based on total energy calculations, we show that the T = 0K pressure-driven transition from OR to T states occurs at a pressure, $P_H$, where the tetragonal enthalpy drops below the orthorhombic. The OR state remains metastable up to a higher pressure, $P_M$ > $P_H$. We find anomalies in magnetism and orthorhombicity as $P \rightarrow P_M$, and a trend towards elastic instability.
We predict that spin-waves in an ordered quantum antiferromagnet (AFM) in a strong magnetic field become unstable with respect to spontaneous two-magnon decays. At zero temperature, the instability occurs between the threshold field $H^*$ and the saturation field $H_c$. As an example, we investigate the high-field dynamics of a Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a square lattice and show that the single-magnon branch of the spectrum disappears in the most part of the Brillouin zone.
We consider the effective 2+1 dimensional electrodynamics (QED_3) of low-energy quasiparticles coupled to fluctuating vortex loops in the d-wave superconductor, with the velocity anisotropy: v_F not equal to v_Delta. This theory should be relevant to the quantum superconductor-insulator transition in underdoped cuprates. Working in the customary large-N approximation, we find that weak anisotropy is a marginally irrelevant perturbation to the Lorentz invariant QED_3, and that the critical number N_c of Dirac fields below which the theory suffers the antiferromagnetic (chiral) instability stays…
Motivated by the intriguing properties of magnetic molecular wheels at field induced level crossings, we investigate the spin-Peierls instability of antiferromagnetic rings in a field by exact diagonalizations of a microscopic spin model coupled to the lattice via a distortion dependent Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. We show that, beyond the unconditional instability at level crossings for infinitesimal magnetoelastic coupling, the model is characterized by a stronger tendency to distort at higher level crossings, and by a dramatic angular dependence with very sharp torque anomalies when t…
We present a computational study of antiferromagnetic transition in RuO$_2$. The rutile structure with the magnetic sublattices coupled by $π/2$-rotation leads to a spin-polarized band structure in the antiferromagnetic state, which gives rise to a $d$-wave modulation of the Fermi surface in the spin-triplet channel. We argue a finite spin conductivity that changes sign in the $ab$ plane is expected RuO$_2$ because of this band structure. We analyze the origin of the antiferromagnetic instability and link it to presence of a nodal line close to the Fermi level.
Hydrostatic pressure effects on the temperature- and magnetic field dependencies of the in-plane and out-of-plane magnetization of the bi-layered perovskite Sr3Ru2O7 have been studied by SQUID magnetometer measurements under a hydrostatic helium-gas pressure. The anomalously enhanced low-temperature value of the paramagnetic susceptibility has been found to systematically decrease with increasing pressure. The effect is accompanied by an increase of the temperature Tmax of a pronounced peak of susceptibility. Thus, magnetization measurements under hydrostatic pressure reveal that the lattice c…
Precise angle-resolved magnetoresistance (ARM) measurements are applied to reveal the origin for the lowering of symmetry in electron transport and the emergence of a huge number of magnetic phases in the ground state of antiferromagnetic metal HoB12 with fcc crystal structure. By analyzing of the polar H-theta-phi magnetic phase diagrams of this compound reconstructed from the experimental ARM data we argue that non-equilibrium electron density oscillations (dynamic charge stripes) are responsible for the suppression of the indirect RKKY exchange along <110> directions between the nearest nei…
We report the results of Hall coefficient R_H and magnetoresistance (MR) measurements on single crystalline samples of Sr3Ru2O7 grown by the floating zone method. R_H was found to be positive over the entire temperature range studied (0.3 - 300K). Its temperature (T) dependence follows closely that of the magnetic susceptibility, including a maximum at a characteristic temperature T=17 K. We show that R_H can be decomposed into normal and anomalous parts as in the case of skew scattering in heavy-fermion compounds and ferromagnetic metals. This, together with the observation that the longitudi…
A minimal Kitaev-Gamma model has been recently investigated to understand various Kitaev systems. In the one-dimensional Kitaev-Gamma chain, an emergent SU(2)$_1$ phase and a rank-1 spin ordered phase with $O_h\rightarrow D_4$ symmetry breaking were identified using non-Abelian bosonization and numerical techniques. However, puzzles near the antiferromagnetic Kitaev region with finite Gamma interaction remained unresolved. Here we focus on this parameter region and find that there are two new phases, namely, a rank-1 ordered phase with an $O_h\rightarrow D_3$ symmetry breaking, and a peculiar …
The phases with spontaneously broken symmetries corresponding to antiferromagnetic and d-wave superconducting order in the two-dimensional t-t'-Hubbard model are investigated by means of the functional renormalization group. The introduction of composite boson fields in the magnetic, charge density and superconducting channels allows an efficient parameterization of the four-fermion vertex and the study of regimes where either the antiferromagnetic or superconducting order parameter, or both, are nonzero. We compute the phase diagram and the temperature dependence of the order parameter below …
The 1H-NMR spectrum and nuclear relaxation rate 1/T_1 in the antiferromagnetic wheel CsFe8 were measured to characterize the previously observed magnetic field-induced low-temperature phase around the level crossing at 8 T. The data show that the phase is characterized by a huge staggered transverse polarization of the electronic Fe spins, and the opening of a gap, providing microscopic evidence for the interpretation of the phase as a field-induced magneto-elastic instability.
A Hubbard model at half-filling on an anisotropic triangular lattice has been proposed as the minimal model to describe conducting layers of $κ-(BEDT-TTF)_2X$ organic materials. The model interpolates between the square lattice and decoupled chains. The $κ-(BEDT-TTF)_2X$ materials present many similarities with cuprates, such as the presence of unconventional metallic properties and the close proximity of superconducting and antiferromagnetic phases. As in the cuprates, spin fluctuations are expected to play a crucial role in the onset of superconductivity. We perform a weak-coupling renormali…
We study the impact of a weak bond disorder on the spinon heat transport in the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic (AFM) Heisenberg chain material Sr_{1-x}Ca_xCuO_2. We observe a drastic suppression in the magnetic heat conductivity kappa_mag even at tiny disorder levels (i.e., Ca-doping levels), in stark contrast to previous findings for kappa_mag of S=1/2 two-dimensional square lattice and two-leg spin-ladder systems, where a similar bond disorder has no effect on kappa_mag. Hence, our results underpin the exceptional role of integrability of the S=1/2 AFM Heisenberg chain model and suggest that the bo…

We report the magnetic and electronic properties of the bilayer ruthenate Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$ upon Fe substitution for Ru. We find that Sr$_3$(Ru$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$)$_2$O$_7$ shows a spin-glass-like phase below 4 K for $x$ = 0.01 and commensurate E-type antiferromagnetically ordered insulating ground state characterized by the propagation vector $q_c$ = (0.25 0.25 0) for $x$ $\geq$ 0.03, respectively, in contrast to the paramagnetic metallic state in the parent compound with strong spin fluctuations occurring at wave vectors $q$ = (0.09 0 0) and (0.25 0 0). The observed antiferromagnetic ordering is …
We report thermoelectric and resitivity measurements of antiferromagnetic heavy fermion compound YRh2Si2 at low temperatures down and under high magnetic field. At low temperature, the thermoelectric power and the resistivity present several distinct anomalies as a function of field around H_0 ~ 9.5 T when the magnetic polarization reaches a critical value. The anomalies are accompanied with a change of sign from negative at low magnetic field to positive at high field (H>H_0) and are resulting from a Lifshitz-type topological transition of the Fermi surface. A logarithmic divergence of S/T at…
The interpretation of the magnetic phase diagrams of strongly correlated electron systems remains controversial. In particular, the physics of quantum phase transitions, which occur at zero temperature, is still enigmatic. Heavy-fermion compounds aretextbook examples of quantum criticality, as doping, or the application of pressure or a magnetic field can lead to a quantum phase transition between a magnetically ordered state and a paramagnetic regime. A central question concerns the microscopic nature of the critical quantum fluctuations. Are they antiferromagnetic or of local origin? Here we…
We report the doping-induced antiferromagnetic state and Fermi liquid state that are connected by a superconducting region in a series of CeIrIn$_{5-x}$Hg$_x$, CeIrIn$_{5-x}$Sn$_x$ and CeIr$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$In$_5$ single crystals. Measurements of the specific heat $C(T)$ and electrical resistivity $ρ(T)$ demonstrate that hole doping via Hg/In substitution gives rise to an antiferromagnetic ground state, but substitutions of In by Sn or Ir by Pt (electron doping) favor a paramagnetic Fermi liquid state. A cone-like non-Fermi liquid region is observed near CeIrIn$_5$, showing a diverging effective m…
We study the breakdown of the magnetization plateau at the magnetization M=M_{S}/3 (M_{S} is the saturation magnetization) of the S=1/2 anisotropic spin chain with ferromagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic interactions. We consider the model with the isotropic ferromagnetic (trimer) coupling J_{F}, and anisotropic antiferromagnetic coupling (J_{x}=J_{y}=J_{AF} and J_{z}=ΔJ_{AF}). For the limit of large γ\equiv J_{F}/J_{AF}, the model is equivalent to the S=3/2 XXZ chain with the exchange anisotropy Δ. There is a phase transition between the plateau (small-γ) and the no-plateau (large-γ) re…
We study phase transition behavior of the Heisenberg model on a distorted triangular lattice with competing interactions. The ground-state phase diagram indicates that underlying symmetry can be changed by tuning parameters. We focus on two cases in which a phase transition with discrete symmetry breaking occurs. The first is that the order parameter space is SO(3)$\times C_3$. In this case, a first-order phase transition, with threefold symmetry breaking, occurs. The second has the order parameter space SO(3)$\times Z_2$. In this case, a second-order phase transition occurs with twofold symme…
Ordering and quantum fluctuations of orbital degrees of freedom are studied theoretically for LaVO$_3$ in spin-C-type antiferromagnetic state. The effective Hamiltonian for the orbital pseudospin shows strong one-dimensional anisotropy due to the negative interference among various exchange processes. This significantly enhances the instability toward lattice distortions for the realistic estimate of the Jahn-Teller coupling by first-principle LDA+$U$ calculations, instead of favoring the orbital singlet formation. This explains well the experimental results on the anisotropic optical spectra …
We investigate the effect of magnetic fields on a Kondo insulator by using the periodic Anderson model. The analysis by dynamical mean field theory combined with quantum Monte Carlo simulations reveals that the magnetic field drives the Kondo insulator to a transverse antiferromagnetic insulator at low temperatures. We calculate the staggered spin susceptibility and find its divergence signaling the antiferromagnetic instability. Further investigation of the spin correlation functions and the magnetization process clarifies how the magnetic field suppresses the Kondo singlet formation and indu…
We present a study of the critical phenomena around the quantum critical point in heavy-fermion systems. In the framework of the S=1/2 Kondo lattice model, we introduce an extended decoupling scheme of the Kondo interaction which allows one to treat the spin fluctuations and the Kondo effect on an equal footing. The calculations, developed in a self-consistent one-loop approximation, lead to the formation of a damped collective mode with a dynamic exponent z=2 in the case of an antiferromagnetic instability. The system displays a quantum-classical crossover at finite temperature depending how …
We analyze the phase diagram for a system of weakly-coupled electrons having an electron- and a hole-band with imperfect nesting. Namely, both bands have spherical Fermi surfaces, but their radii are slightly different, with a mismatch proportional to the doping. Such a model is used to describe: the antiferromagnetism of chromium and its alloys, pnictides, AA-stacked graphene bilayers, as well as other systems. Here we show that the uniform ground state of this model is unstable with respect to electronic phase separation in a wide range of model parameters. Physically, this instability occur…
We study the conductivity of a 3D disordered metal close to the antiferromagnetic instability within the framework of the spin-fermion model using the diagrammatic technique. We calculate the interaction correction $δσ(ω,T)$ to the conductivity, assuming that the latter is dominated by the disorder scattering, and the interaction is weak. Although the fermionic scattering rate shows critical behaviour on the entire Fermi surface, the interaction correction is dominated by the processes near the hot spots, narrow regions of the Fermi-surface corresponding to the strongest spin-fermion scatterin…
It has long been known that two-dimensional metals with antiferromagnetic exchange interactions have a weak-coupling instability to the superconductivity of spin-singlet, d-wave electron pairs. We examine additional possible instabilities in the spin-singlet particle-hole channel, and study their interplay with superconductivity. We perform an unrestricted Hartree-Fock-BCS analysis of bond order parameters in a single band model on the square lattice with nearest-neighbor exchange and repulsion, while neglecting on-site interactions. The dominant particle-hole instability is found to be an inc…
The field-induced antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering in the $d_{x^2-y^2}$-paired superconducting phase, which has been recently found in the weak-coupling approach as a basic mechanism due to the Pauli paramagnetic pair-breaking (PPB) in relation to the high-field behaviors in CeCoIn_5, is studied in the strong-coupling approach taking account of the electron correlation. Applying the fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approximation to the two-dimensional Hubbard model including the Zeeman term, it is shown that the PPB-induced AFM ordering in the superconducting (SC) phase and the first order SC trans…
Spin dynamics of the square lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet, \BaMnGeO, is studied by a combination of bulk measurements, neutron diffraction, and inelastic neutron scattering techniques. Easy plane type antiferromagnetic order is identified at $T \le 4.0$ K. The exchange interactions are estimated as $J_1$ = 27.8(3)$μ$eV and $J_2$ = 1.0(1) $μ$eV, and the saturation field $H_{\rm C}$ is 9.75 T. Magnetic excitation measurements with high experimental resolution setup by triple axis neutron spectrometer reveals the instability of one magnon excitation in the field range of $0.7H_{\rm C} \lesss…
Spin-reorientation phase transitions that involve the rotation of a crystal$'$s magnetization have been well characterized in distorted-perovskite oxides such as the orthoferrites. In these systems spin reorientation occurs due to competing rare-earth and transition metal anisotropies coupled via $f$-$d$ exchange. Here, we demonstrate an alternative paradigm for spin reorientation in distorted perovskites. We show that the $R_2\mathrm{CuMnMn_4O_{12}}$ (R = Y or Dy) triple A-site columnar-ordered quadruple perovskites have three ordered magnetic phases and up to two spin-reorientation phase tra…
We propose a candidate for the hidden order in URu2Si2: a rank-5 E type spin density wave between Uranium 5f crystal field doublets breaking time reversal and lattice tetragonal symmetry in a manner consistent with recent torque measurements [R. Okazaki et al, Science 331, 439 (2011)]. We argue that coupling of this order parameter to magnetic probes can be hidden by crystal field effects, while still having significant effects on transport, thermodynamics and magnetic susceptibilities. In a simple tight-binding model for the heavy quasiparticles, we show the connection between the hidden orde…
The spin-fermion model has long been used to describe the quantum-critical behavior of 2d electron systems near an antiferromagnetic (AFM) instability. Recently, the standard procedure to integrate out the fermions to obtain an effective action for spin waves has been questioned in the clean case. We show that in the presence of disorder, the single fermion loops display two crossover scales: upon lowering the energy, the singularities of the clean fermionic loops are first cut off, but below a second scale new singularities arise that lead again to marginal scaling. In addition, impurity line…
By calculating orbitally resolved Pauli susceptibilities within maximally localized Wannier orbital basis transformed from first principles band structures, we find that magnetism in Fe$_{1+x}$Te still has its itinerant origin even without Fermi surface nesting, provided orbital modulation of particle-hole excitations are considered. This leads to strong magnetic instabilities at wave vector (0,$π$)/($π$,0) in d$_{xz}$/d$_{yz}$ orbitals that are responsible for the bicollinear antiferromagnetic state as extra electrons donated from excess Fe are considered. Magnetic exchange coupling between e…
Metals interacting via short-range antiferromagnetic fluctuations are unstable to sign-changing superconductivity at low temperatures. For the cuprates, this leading instability leads to the well known $d-$wave superconducting state. However, there is also a secondary instability to an incommensurate charge density wave, with a predominantly $d-$wave form factor, arising from the same antiferromagnetic fluctuations. Recent experiments in the pseudogap regime of the hole-doped cuprates have found strong evidence for such a charge density wave order and, in particular, the predicted $d-$wave for…
Recently a new phenomenological Hamiltonian has been proposed to describe the superconducting cuprates. This so-called Gossamer Hamiltonian is an apt model for a superconductor with strong on-site Coulomb repulsion betweenthe electrons. It is shown that as one approaches half-filling the Gossamer superconductor, and hence the superconducting state, with strong repulsion is unstable toward an antiferromagnetic insulator an can undergo a quantum phase transition to such an insulator if one increases the on-site Coulomb repulsion.
The ground state phase diagram is obtained for an antiferromagnetic spin-1 anisotropic biquadratic model. With the help of symmetry and duality transformations, three symmetry-protected trivial phases and one dimerized symmetry breaking phase are found. Local and nonlocal order parameters are identified to characterize these phases. Quantum phase transitions between the symmetry-protected trivial phases belong to the Gaussian universality class with central charge c = 1, and quantum phase transitions from the symmetry-protected trivial phases to the dimerized phase belong to the Ising universa…
We investigate the interplay between charge order and superconductivity near an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point using sign-problem-free Quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We establish that, when the electronic dispersion is particle-hole symmetric, the system has an emergent SU(2) symmetry that implies a degeneracy between $d$-wave superconductivity and charge order with $d$-wave form factor. Deviations from particle-hole symmetry, however, rapidly lift this degeneracy, despite the fact that the SU(2) symmetry is preserved at low energies. As a result, we find a strong suppression of ch…
Amongst the rare-earth perovskite nickelates, LaNiO$_3$ (LNO) is an exception. While the former have insulating and antiferromagnetic ground states, LNO remains metallic and non-magnetic down to the lowest temperatures. It is believed that LNO is a strange metal, on the verge of an antiferromagnetic instability. Our work suggests that LNO is a quantum critical metal, close to an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point (QCP). The QCP behavior in LNO is manifested in epitaxial thin films with unprecedented high purities. We find that the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the resisti…
We study quantum phase transitions in Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains with a staggered power-law decaying long-range interactions. Employing the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) algorithm and the fidelity susceptibility as the criticality measure, we establish more accurate values of quantum critical points than the results obtained from the spin-wave approximation, quantum Monte Carlo and DMRG in literatures. The deviation is especially evident for strong long-range interactions. We extend isotropic long-range interactions to the anisotropic cases and find that kaleidoscope of …
We report the results of extensive dynamical cluster approximation calculations, based on a quantum Monte Carlo solver, for the two-dimensional Kondo lattice model. Our particular cluster implementation renders possible the simulation of spontaneous antiferromagnetic symmetry breaking. By explicitly computing the single-particle spectral function both in the paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases, we follow the evolution of the Fermi surface across this magnetic transition. The results, computed for clusters up to 16 orbitals, show clear evidence for the existence of three distinct Fermi su…
For a class of frustrated antiferromagnetic spin lattices (in particular, the square-kagomé and kagomé lattices) we discuss the impact of recently discovered exact eigenstates on the stability of the lattice against distortions. These eigenstates consist of independent localized magnons embedded in a ferromagnetic environment and become ground states in high magnetic fields. For appropriate lattice distortions fitting to the structure of the localized magnons the lowering of magnetic energy can be calculated exactly and is proportional to the displacement of atoms leading to a spin-Peierls lat…
We carefully study how the fermion-fermion interactions affect the low-energy states of a two-dimensional spin-$1/2$ fermionic system on the kagomé lattice with a quadratic band crossing point. With the help of the renormalization group approach, we can treat all kinds of fermionic interactions on the the same footing and then establish the coupled energy-dependent flows of fermionic interaction parameters via collecting one-loop corrections, from which a number of interesting results are extracted in the low-energy regime. At first, various sorts of fermion-fermion interactions furiously comp…
In the triangular layered magnet PdCrO2 the intralayer magnetic interactions are strong, however the lattice structure frustrates interlayer interactions. In spite of this, long-range, 120$^\circ$ antiferromagnetic order condenses at $T_N = 38$~K. We show here through neutron scattering measurements under in-plane uniaxial stress and in-plane magnetic field that this occurs through a spontaneous lifting of the three-fold rotational symmetry of the nonmagnetic lattice, which relieves the interlayer frustration. We also show through resistivity measurements that uniaxial stress can suppress ther…
Spatial inversion symmetry in crystal structures is closely related to the superconducting (SC) and magnetic properties of materials. Recently, several theoretical proposals that predict various interesting phenomena caused by the breaking of the local inversion symmetry have been presented. However, experimental validation has not yet progressed owing to the lack of model materials. Here we present evidence for antiferromagnetic (AFM) order in CeRh$_{2}$As$_{2}$ (SC transition temperature $T_{\rm SC} \sim 0.37$~K), wherein the Ce site breaks the local inversion symmetry. The evidence is based…
Motivated by recent experiments reporting superconductivity only at very low temperature in a class of heavy fermion compounds, we study the impact of energy fluctuations with small momentum transfer on the pairing instability near an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point. While these fluctuations, formed by composite spin fluctuations, were proposed to explain the thermodynamic and transport properties near the quantum critical point of compounds such as YbRh$_{2}$Si$_{2}$ and CeCu$_{6-x}$Au$_{x}$ at $x\approx0.1$, here they are found to strongly suppress $T_{c}$ of the $d$-wave pairing of…
By first-principles calculations, we present a doping-dependent phase diagram of LaO{\it M}As ({\it M}=V--Cu) family. It is characterized as antiferromagnetic semiconductor around LaOMnAs side and ferromagnetic metal around LaOCoAs. Both LaOFeAs and LaONiAs, where superconductivity were discovered, are located at the borderline of magnetic phases. Extensive Fermi surface analysis suggests that the observed superconductivity is of electron-type in its origin. We discuss possible pairing mechanisms in the context of competing ferromagnetic phases found in this work and the ferromagnetic spin flu…
We propose a novel two-dimensional (2D)frustrated quantum spin-1/2 anisotropic Heisenberg model with alternating ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic magnetic chains along one direction and antiferromagnetic interactions along the other. The (mean-field) ground state is ferrimagnetic in certain range of the interaction space. Spin-wave theory analysis of the reduction of ordered moments at inequivalent spin sites and the instability of the spin waves suggest a quantum phase transition which has the characteristics of both the frustrated two-dimensional antiferromagnetic S=1/2 ($J_1, J_2$) model…
We determine the magnetic phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic(AF) zigzag spin chain in the strongly frustrated region, using the density matrix renormalization group method. We find the magnetization plateau at 1/3 of the full moment accompanying the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the translation, the cusp singularities above and/or below the plateau, and the even-odd effect in the magnetization curve. We also discuss the formation mechanisms of the plateau and cusps briefly.
Within the framework of the QED3 theory of cuprates it is argued that bulk antiferromagnetic (AF) order can coexist with d-wave superconductivity in the underdoped region, in agreement with recent experiments. The AF order arises from the phase fluctuating d-wave superconductor via the mechanism of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, provided that fluctuations are sufficiently strong. The phase diagram for this coexistence is mapped out by means of analytical and numerical solutions of the underlying Dyson-Schwinger equation in the large N limit.
We address the nature of the antiferromagnetic quantum phase transition that separates a semimetal from an antiferromagnet in the repulsive Hubbard model defined on the honeycomb lattice. At the critical point, the fermions acquire an anomalous dimension $η$ due to their strong coupling to the fluctuations of the order parameter $ϕ$. The finite $η$ in turn induces a singular $ϕ^{4}$ term and a non-analytical spin susceptibility signaling the breakdown of Hertz's $ϕ^{4}$ theory. As a result, the continuous antiferromagnetic quantum phase transition is internally unstable and turns into a first …
We compute the temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic order parameter and the gap in the two dimensional Hubbard model at and close to half filling. Our approach is based on truncations of an exact functional renormalization group equation. The explicit use of composite bosonic degrees of freedom permits a direct investigation of the ordered low temperature phase. We show that the Mermin--Wagner theorem is not practically applicable for the spontaneous breaking of the continuous spin symmetry in the antiferromagnetic state. The critical behavior is dominated by the fluctuations of com…
