We propose a universal mixing hypothesis between quark and lepton sectors at high energy scale (probably GUT scale) where quark-lepton universality holds. Namely in the charged lepton diagonal base, all the other mass matrices for up and down quarks and neutrinos are diagonalized by the same unitary matrix except for the phase elements. Thanks to this hypothesis, the observed values of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark mixing matrix and the mixing angles $θ_{12}$ and $θ_{23}$ in the Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (MNS) lepton mixing matrix can predict the unknown magnitudes of the mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and of the CP violating Dirac phase $δ$ in the MNS matrix. Their allowed regions are rather narrow, $0.036<{sin}θ_{13}<0.048$ and $6^\circ<δ<12^\circ$.
We take up the point of view that Yukawa couplings can be either 0 or 1, and the mass patterns of fermions are generated purely from the structure of the Yukawa matrices. We utilize such neutrino as well as charged leptonic textures which lead to (maximal) mixing angles of $π/4$ in each sector for relevant transitions. The combined leptonic CKM mixing angles are $π/4 \pm π/4$ which lead to very small $\sin^2 2 Θ$ relevant to solar neutrino and LSND experiments. We propose that on the other hand the absence of the charged leptonic partner of the sterile neutrino maintains the angle $π/4$ from t…
Details of the recent calculation of the two-loop bosonic corrections to the effective leptonic weak mixing angle are presented. In particular, the expansion in the difference of the W and Z boson masses is studied and some of the master integrals needed are given in analytic form.
Implications of recently measured leptonic mixing angle $θ_{13}$ as well as the other two mixing angles have been examined for Fritzsch-like mass matrices with minimal texture for Dirac neutrinos. Interestingly, the existing data seems to rule out this texture specific case of Dirac neutrinos for normal, inverted hierarchy as well as degenerate scenario of masses.
Non-leptonic Decays of Hyperons can provide a detailed determination of the a priori mixing angles that appear in physical hadrons in the approach in which non-perturbative flavor and parity violations are present in tiny pieces of the hadron mass operator. The determination of such angles in these decays will provide a bench mark to test their necessary universality-like property in other types of decays. Our main result is that the magnitudes of the a priori mixing angles can be determined quite accurately.
We give some details of the recently completed calculation of the full two-loop fermionic corrections to the effective leptonic weak mixing angle. Among others, we describe the C++ library DiaGen/IdSolver, which was used to reduce the two-loop light fermion vertex diagrams to linear combinations of master integrals with rational function coefficients.
In this paper, we show how the mixing angles of the standard parameterization add when multiplying the quark and leptonic mixing matrices, i.e., we derive explicit sum rules for the quark and leptonic mixing angles. In this connection, we also discuss other recently proposed sum rules for the mixing angles assuming bimaximal fermion mixing. In addition, we find that the present experimental and phenomenological data of the mixing angles naturally fulfill our sum rules, and thus, give rise to bilarge or bimaximal fermion mixing.
Using discrete flavour group, $A_5$, combined with generalised CP, we study the mixing parameter correlations which arise from breaking to residual symmetries in the neutrino, $G_ν=\mathbb{Z}_2\times \text{CP}$, and charged lepton sectors, $G_{e}=\mathbb{Z}_2$. By focusing on patterns that agree with current experimental data we demonstrate that non-trivial leptonic phases are predicted and discuss a number of distinctive correlations between mixing parameters.
We present a model for leptonic mixing and the lepton masses based on flavor symmetries and higher-dimensional mass operators. The model predicts bilarge leptonic mixing (i.e., the mixing angles theta_{12} and theta_{23} are large and the mixing angle theta_{13} is small) and an inverted hierarchical neutrino mass spectrum. Furthermore, it approximately yields the experimental hierarchical mass spectrum of the charged leptons. The obtained values for the leptonic mixing parameters and the neutrino mass squared differences are all in agreement with atmospheric neutrino data, the Mikheyev--Smirn…
We discuss the determination of the CKM angles gamma and alpha using recent data from non-leptonic B decays together with flavour symmetries. Penguin effects are controlled by means of the CP-averaged branching ratio B_d \to π^\pm K^\mp. The information from A_{CP}(B_d \to J/ΨK_S) (two solutions for phi_d), Rb and gamma allow us to determine beta, even in presence of New Physics not affecting Delta B=1 amplitudes. In this context we address the question of to what extent there is still space for New Physics.
Assuming that the axion mechanism of solving the strong CP problem does not exist and the vanishing of theta at tree level is achieved by some model-building means, we study the naturalness of having large CP-violating sources in the leptonic sector. We consider the radiative mechanisms which transfer a possibly large CP-violating phase in the leptonic sector to the theta parameter. It is found that large theta cannot be induced in the models with one Higgs doublet as at least three loops are required in this case. In the models with two or more Higgs doublets the dominant source of theta is t…
We introduce an ansatz of the PMNS matrix that consists of specific types of transformations. Bi-maximal mixing is taken for the neutrino masses, while a single-angle rotation in the 1-2 block is taken for the charged lepton masses. Motivated by the implications of the recent results on neutrino oscillations, $θ_{23}$ in the first octant and non-zero $θ_{13}$ are predicted by the ansatz. Three physical mixing angles are expressed in terms of a single variable, the 1-2 angle of charged leptons, so that a simple relation among the angles has been obtained: $\tanθ_{13}=\sqrt{2}(\sinθ_{23}-\sinθ_{…
We revisit the possibility of relating lepton mixing angles with lepton mass hierarchies in a model-independent way. Guided by the existence of such relations in the quark sector, we first consider all the mixing angles, both in charged lepton and neutrino sectors to be related to the respective mass ratios. This allows us to calculate the leptonic mixing angles observed in neutrino oscillations as functions of the lightest neutrino mass. We show that for both normal and inverted hierarchical neutrino masses, this scenario does not give rise to correct leptonic mixing angles. We then show that…
In this article, we assume the two nonets of scalar mesons below and above 1 GeV are all $\bar{q}q$ states, and study the semi-leptonic decays $B\to S\ell^-\barν_{\ell}$, $B\to S\ell^+\ell^-$ and $B\to S\barνν$ both in the standard model and in the universal extra dimension model using the $B-S$ form-factors calculated by the light-cone QCD sum rules in our previous work. We obtain the partial decay widths and decay widths, which can be confronted with the experimental data in the future to examine the natures of the scalar mesons and constrain the basic parameter in the universal extra dimens…
We phenomenologically build a neutrino mass matrix obeying $μ-τ$ symmetry with only two parameters, Cabibbo angle $(λ)$ and a flavour twister parameter $(η)$. For vanishing $η$, the model assumes TBM mixing. When $η=λ$, the model generates a solar mixing angle and solar mass squared difference that coincide with the experimental best-fits. It motivates us to propose a mixing matrix in the neutrino sector with $ sinθ_{12}<\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}$, $θ_{13}=0$ and $θ_{23}=π/4$. The corrections in $θ_{13}$ and $θ_{23}$ are conducted following the breaking of $μ-τ$ symmetry, by choosing a proper unitary…
We derive renormalization group equations for neutrino masses, leptonic mixing angles and CP-violating phases running at energies above the seesaw threshold, both in the Standard Model and in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model extended with three right-handed neutrinos. With these equations, we carry out a systematic study of the radiative correction that may arise to neutrino parameters, via their renormalization group evolution from the electroweak scale ($M_{\rm Z}$) to the scale of Grand Unified theories ($Λ_{\rm GUT}$). We study in detail three typically interesting neutrino mass p…
We introduce a flavor ${\cal U}(1)$ symmetry à la Froggat-Nielsen to explain the magnitude of the CKM mixing angles as well bilarge mixing in the neutrino sector. In the framework of GUTs we also estimate the magnitude of the third leptonic mixing angle $θ_{13}$. Estimates for rare leptonic decays such as $μ\to e \ga $ are also provided. Finally, leptogenesis is exploited for estimating the magnitude of leptonic CP violation.
In this work we examine the possible existence of new physics beyond the standard model which could modify the branching fractions of the leptonic (mainly tauonic) decays of bottomonium vector resonances below the $B\bar{B}$ threshold. The decay width is factorized as the product of two pieces: a) the probability of an intermediate pseudoscalar color-singlet $b\bar{b}$ state (coupling to the dominant Fock state of the Upsilon via a magnetic dipole transition) and a soft (undetected) photon; b) the annihilation width of the $b\bar{b}$ pair into two leptons, mediated by a non-standard CP-odd Hig…
Neutrino oscillations as solutions of the solar neutrino problems and the atmospheric neutrino deficits may restrict neutrino mass squared differences and mixing angles in three-neutrino mixing scheme. Currently we have several solutions depending on the interpretations of the solar neutrino problems. Combining the neutrino oscillation solutions and a mass matrix ansatz, we investigated the neutrino mass bounds and found possible leptonic CP-violating rephasing-invariant quantity $J^{l}_{\tiny CP} \leq 0.012$ for large mixing angle MSW and just-so vacuum oscillations solutions, and $J^{l}_{\ti…
It is shown that in SO(10) models where the large solar and atmospheric neutrino angles come from the charged-lepton mass being "lopsided", there is a characteristic relation between the 13 mixing angle of the neutrinos and the size of the Dirac CP- violating phase in the lepton sector. This is illustrated in a recently proposed realistic and predictive model.
Within the framework of a $Z'$ model with non-universal leptonic couplings, we analyze possible signatures of leptonic number violation effects at LHC. Results are described for leptonic energy distributions, both from its specific signature and events number, that could allow us to observe this class of models, under reasonable conditions at LHC.
The most recent measurements of the observables $R_{D^{(*)}}$ are in tension with the Standard Model offering hints of New Physics in $b\rightarrow c \ell \barν_{\ell}$ transitions. Motivated by these results, in this work we present an analysis on their $b\rightarrow u \ell \barν_{\ell}$ counterparts (for $\ell=e, ~μ, ~τ$). Our study has three main objectives. Firstly, using ratios of branching fractions, we assess the effects of beyond the Standard Model scalar and pseudoscalar particles in leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays ($B^-\rightarrow \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$, $\bar{B}\rightarrow π\ell …
We consider minimal modifications to tribimaximal (TBM) mixing matrix which accommodate non-zero mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and CP violation. We derive four possible forms for the minimal modifications to TBM mixing in a model with $A_4$ flavor symmetry by incorporating symmetry breaking terms appropriately. We show how possible values of the Dirac-type CP phase $δ_D$ can be predicted with regards to two neutrino mixing angles in the standard parametrization of the neutrino mixing matrix. Carrying out numerical analysis based on the recent updated experimental results for neutrino mixing angles, we…
For the large-angles hard photon emission by initial leptons in process of high energy annihilation of $e^+ e^- \to $ to hadrons the Dirac tensor is obtained, taking into account the lowest order radiative corrections. The case of large-angles emission of two hard photons by initial leptons is considered. This result is being completed by the kinematics case of collinear hard photons emission as well as soft virtual and real photons and can be used for construction of Monte-Carlo generators.
We review the idea of leptonic unitary triangles and extend the concept of the recently proposed unitary boomerangs to the lepton sector. Using a convenient parameterization of the lepton mixing, we provide approximate expressions for the side lengths and the angles of the six different triangles and give examples of leptonic unitary boomerangs. Possible applications of the leptonic unitary boomerangs are also briefly discussed.
In the light of the recent LHC data, we study precision tests sensitive to the violation of lepton universality, in particular the violation of unitarity in neutrino mixing. Keeping all data we find no satisfatory fit, even allowing for violations of unitarity in neutrino mixing. Leaving out sin$^2 θ_{\scriptsize \mbox{eff}}$ from the hadronic forward-backward asymmetry at LEP, we find a good fit to the data with some evidence of lepton universality violation at the $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$ level.
I discuss different theories of leptonic flavor and their capability of describing the features of the lepton sector, namely charged lepton masses, neutrino masses, lepton mixing angles and leptonic (low and high energy) CP phases. In particular, I show examples of theories with an abelian flavor symmetry G_f, with a non-abelian G_f as well as theories with non-abelian G_f and CP.
Determination of the value of the leptonic CP-violating phase deltaand the neutrino mass hierarchy sgn(dm2_31) through long baselineneutrino oscillation experiments is systematically analyzed. We notethat the two oscillation spectra are difficult to discriminate andlead to the degeneracy when they are peaked at the same energy andhave the same peak probability. The condition of peak-matching istherefore introduced as a criterion for the presence of degeneracy. The matching of peaks is visualized as an intersection of trajectoriestraced by the peak of an oscillation spectrum while the value of d…
We study hadronic and leptonic flavor physics in a SUSY SO(10) model proposed by Chang, Masiero, and Murayama, which links b -> s transitions to the observed large atmospheric neutrino mixing angle. We find large effects in B_s-B_s-bar mixing and BR(tau -> mu gamma) and comment on B_d -> phi K_S.
We describe in detail the method we have used to determine the CKM angles gamma, alpha and beta using flavour symmetries between non-leptonic B decays. This method is valid in the context of the SM but also in presence of New Physics not affecting the amplitudes.
Lepton generation universality holds very well in Z decays, but appears to be violated in recent LEP data of W leptonic decay branching fractions. If this trend persists, a consistent and natural explanation is a model of generation nonuniversality, based on the gauge group SU(2)_L X U(1)_R X U(1)_{B-L}.
We consider a class of models of neutrino mixing with $S_4$ lepton flavour symmetry combined with a generalised CP symmetry, which are broken to residual $Z_2$ and $Z_2 \times H^ν_{\rm CP}$ symmetries in the charged lepton and neutrino sectors, respectively, $H^ν_{\rm CP}$ being a remnant CP symmetry of the neutrino Majorana mass term. In this set-up the neutrino mixing angles and CP violation (CPV) phases of the neutrino mixing matrix depend on three real parameters - two angles and a phase. We classify all phenomenologically viable mixing patterns and derive predictions for the Dirac and Maj…
We investigate a general structure of lepton mixing matrix resulting from the SU$_F$(3) gauge family model with an appropriate vacuum structure of SU$_F$(3) symmetry breaking. It is shown that the lepton mixing matrix can be parametrized by using the Wolfenstein parametrization method to characterize its deviation from the tri-bimaximal mixing. A general analysis for the allowed leptonic CP-violating phase $δ_e$ and the leptonic Wolfenstein parameters $λ_e$, $A_e$, $ρ_e$ is carried out based on the observed lepton mixing angles. We demonstrate how the leptonic CP violation correlates to the le…
We investigate under which circumstances one can show the existence of leptonic CP violation with the help of a positive or negative signal in neutrinoless double beta decay. The possibilities of cancellations are investigated for special mass hierarchies and the different solar solutions. The possibility that the mixing angle connected with the solar neutrino problem is smaller or larger than pi/4 is taken into account. The non-maximality of that angle in case of the LMA solution allows to make several useful statements. The four different CP conserving possibilities are analyzed. It is imple…
The type X (lepton-specific) two-Higgs-doublet model at large $\tanβ$ becomes leptophilic and thus allows a light pseudoscalar $A$ accommodating the observed muon $g-2$ deviation without conflicting with various hadronic constraints. On the other hand, it is strongly constrained by leptonic precision observables such as lepton universality test in the neutral and charged currents. Treating all the lepton universality data in a consistent way, we show how the current data constrain the parameter space of $m_A$ and $\tanβ$ for given degenerate masses of heavy Higgs bosons $H$ and $H^\pm$. While …
The current status of our knowledge of the 3-neutrino mixing parameters and of the CP violation in the lepton sector is summarised. The discrete symmetry approach to understanding the observed pattern of neutrino mixing and the related predictions for neutrino mixing angles and leptonic Dirac CP violation are reviewed.
We derive predictions for the Dirac phase $δ$ present in the $3\times 3$ unitary neutrino mixing matrix $U = U_e^{\dagger} \, U_ν$, where $U_e$ and $U_ν$ are $3\times 3$ unitary matrices which arise from the diagonalisation, respectively, of the charged lepton and the neutrino mass matrices. We consider forms of $U_e$ and $U_ν$ allowing us to express $δ$ as a function of three neutrino mixing angles, present in $U$, and the angles contained in $U_ν$. We consider several forms of $U_ν$ determined by, or associated with, symmetries, tri-bimaximal, bimaximal, etc., for which the angles in $U_ν$ a…
We study leptonic CP violation from a new perspective. For Majorana neutrinos, a new parametrization for leptonic mixing of the form $V=O_{23} O_{12} K_{a}^{i}\cdot O$ reveals interesting aspects that are less clear in the standard parametrization. We identify several important scenario-cases with mixing angles in agreement with experiment and leading to large leptonic CP violation. If neutrinos happen to be quasi-degenerate, this new parametrization might be very useful, e.g., in reducing the number of relevant parameters of models.
Based on existing data, we argue for a peculiar structure of the neutrino mass matrix, that has a block of relatively large elements--a dominant block. We analyze this ansatz and extract its predictions, assuming that the O(1) coefficients (that are needed to define the model fully) are random variables. Further insights are obtained by postulating that this structure of the mass matrix is due to U(1) selection rules, a la Froggatt and Nielsen. A particularly interesting case emerges, when the angle theta(13) (namely, the mixing U(e3)) is within reach for next generation experiments, and the l…
Unlike in the quark sector where simple $S_3$ permutation symmetries can generate the general features of quark masses and mixings, we find it impossible (under conditions of hierarchy for the charged leptons and without considering the see-saw mechanism or a more elaborate extension of the SM) to guarantee large leptonic mixing angles with any general symmetry or transformation of only known particles. If such symmetries exist, they must be realized in more extended scenarios.
Precision measurement of the neutrino mixing parameters and the determination of mass hierarchy are the primary goals of the present and upcoming neutrino experiments. In this work, we study the sensitivity of T2K,NO$ν$A and LBNE experiments to discover leptonic CP violation and the determination of neutrino mass hierarchy. We obtain the correlation between the CP violating phase $δ_{CP}$ and the mixing angles $θ_{13}$, $θ_{23}$ and the sensitivity to determine the octant of atmospheric mixing angle $θ_{23}$. The entire analysis is done for a total 10 years (5$ν$+ 5$\bar ν$) of running of T2K,…
In this talk I will present the work that we did in \cite{1}\cite{2}\cite{3}\cite{4}\cite{5} related to observed lepton universality violation by Babar, Belle and LHCb in R($D^{(*)}$) and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ as well as the reported deviation in muon (g-2) by BNL. We had shown that all these anomalies as well as Baryon-genesis, Dark-matter and small neutrino masses could be explained by introducing new exotic scalars, leptons and scalar-leptoquarks only. It turn out that some of these models have very peculiar signatures such as prediction of existence of heavy stable charged particle \cite{1}\cite{2…
A unified description of fermionic mixing is proposed which assumes that in certain basis ($i$) a single complex unitary matrix $V$ diagonalizes mass matrices of all fermions to the leading order, ($ii$) the SU(5) relation $M_d=M_l^T$ exists between the mass matrices of the down quarks and the charged leptons, and ($iii$) $M_d^\dagger=M_d$. These assumptions automatically lead to different mixing patterns for quarks and leptons: quarks remain unmixed to leading order ($i. e. V_{CKM}=1$) while leptons have non-trivial mixing given by a symmetric unitary matrix $V^0_{PMNS} = V^T V$. $V$ depends …
We investigate the sensitivity of some weak processes to a Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa mixing in the leptonic sector. Values for mixing angles and masses compatible with several experimental accelerator data were found. We discuss in this context neutrino oscillations, cosmological and astrophysical consequences as well.
We construct and present a model for leptonic mixing based on higher-dimensional operators, using the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism, and Abelian horizontal symmetries (flavor symmetries) of continuous and discrete type. Our model naturally yields bilarge leptonic mixing, coming from both the charged leptons and the neutrinos, and an inverted neutrino mass hierarchy spectrum. The obtained values of the parameters, i.e., the leptonic mixing parameters and the neutrino mass squared differences, are all consistent with the atmospheric neutrino data and the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein large mixing an…
In this work we extend the SM by introducing only exotic scalars and leptons and show that within the reasonable error limits, both the observed anomalies in $R(D^{(*)})$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ can be explained along with satisfying all the constrains from nuetral meson oscillations, precision Z-pole data etc. In a trivial extension of our model with addition of three heavy right handed neutrinos, explaining the small masses of neutrinos and generation of Baryon excess via leptogenesis is possible as well. The disagreement between SM prediction and experimental data in muon (g-2) measurements can b…
Leptonic mixing patterns are usually extracted on the basis of groups or algebraic structures. In this paper, we introduce an alternative geometric method to study the correlations between the leptonic mixing parameters. At the 3$σ$ level of the recent global fit data of neutrino oscillations, the distribution of the scattered points of the angles between the vectors, which are constructed by the element of the leptonic mixing matrix, is analysed. We find that the scattered points are concentrated on several special regions. Using the data in these regions, correlations of the leptonic mixing …
We propose a flavour structure for the leptonic sector of the Standard Model, based on the idea of universality of Yukawa couplings, which accommodates all the experimental data on neutrino masses and mixing, at the same time predicting specific correlations between low energy measurable quantities, such as the ratio of neutrino squared mass differences, $|U_{13}|$, the leptonic Dirac phase, and the double-beta decay mass parameter. We also point out that it is possible, in this framework, to generate a sufficient amount of baryon asymmetry of the Universe through leptogenesis.
We study the linking between the CP violating phase of the lepton sectors and the unitarity triangle of the B0 meson system. Antusch, King, Malinsky and Spinrath have shown that the quark mass matrices with the negligible 1-3 mixing give an interesting relation between the phase of the quark mixing matrices and CP violating measure phi_2(alpha). This approach is extended by considering the SO(10) GUT including the Pati-Salam symmetry, which links the Yukawa matrices of the quark sector to the one of the lepton sector. We discuss the relation of the CP violating phases between both quark and le…
We review the present understanding of neutrino masses and mixings, discussing what are the unknowns in the three family oscillation scenario. Despite the anticipated success coming from the planned long baseline neutrino experiments in unraveling the leptonic mixing sector, there are two important unknowns which may remain obscure: the mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and the CP-phase $δ$. The measurement of these two parameters has led us to consider the combination of superbeams and neutrino factories as the key to unveil the neutrino oscillation picture.
In the Higgs Triplet Model and the neutrinophilic Two-Higgs-Doublet Model the observed neutrinos obtain mass from a vacuum expectation value which is much smaller than the vacuum expectation value of the Higgs boson in the Standard Model. Both models contain a singly charged Higgs boson (H^-) whose Yukawa coupling is directly related to the neutrino mass (i.e. a "neutrinophilic charged Higgs"). The partial decay widths of H^- into a charged lepton and a neutrino (H^- to l^- nu) depend identically on the neutrino masses and mixings in the two models. We quantify the impact of the recent measure…
We point out that leptonic weak-basis invariants are an important tool for the study of the properties of lepton flavour models. In particular, we show that appropriately chosen invariants can give a clear indication of whether a particular lepton flavour model favours normal or inverted hierarchy for neutrino masses and what is the octant of $θ_{23}$. These invariants can be evaluated in any conveniently chosen weak-basis and can also be expressed in terms of neutrino masses, charged lepton masses, mixing angles and CP violation phases.
In the light of the recent Daya Bay result the reactor angle is about 9 degrees, we reconsider the model presented in arXiv:1005.3482 showing that, when all neutrino oscillation parameters are taken at their best fit values of Schwetz et al and the reactor angle to be the central value of Daya Bay, the predicted value of the CP phase is approximately 45 degrees.
Precise measurements of the lepton properties provide stringent tests of the Standard Model structure and accurate determinations of its parameters. We overview the present status of a few selected topics: lepton universality, QCD tests and the determination of alpha_s and m_s from hadronic tau decays, the anomalous lepton magnetic moments and neutrino oscillations.
We propose that leptonic CP violation arises from a breaking of the mu-tau exchange symmetry in the neutrino mass matrix which in turn is indicated by the near maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and the near zero θ_{13}. We find that for the case of a normal hierarchy, present data already restricts the way CP violation may appear in the neutrino mass matrix and there is an interesting correlation between the mixing angle θ_{13}, the solar mixing angle θ_{12} and the Dirac CP phase. In the inverted hierarchy only θ_{13} and the Dirac phase are linked. We also discuss the impact of this kind o…
Leptonic CP violation is yet to be confirmed as an additional source of CP violation in fundamental interactions. We study the case where leptonic CP violation is spontaneous and is induced by the mixing with a heavy charged vector-like lepton (VLL). We show that the non-decoupling of this VLL is linked with the presence of CP violation and its coupling with the SM leptons are partly fixed from the SM Yukawas. Due to the large leptonic mixing angles, these couplings are typically of the same order and there is no flavor preference. Strong but not definitive constraints come from charged lepton…
In models with discrete flavour symmetries, flavons are critical to realise specific flavour structures. Leptonic flavour mixing originates from the misalignment of flavon vacuum expectation values which respect different residual symmetries in the charged lepton and neutrino sectors. Flavon cross couplings are usually forbidden, in order to protect these symmetries. Contrary to this approach, we show that cross couplings can play a key role and give raise to necessary corrections to flavour-mixing patterns, including a non-zero value for the reactor angle and CP violation. For definiteness, w…
We show that, in the low-scale type-I seesaw model, renormalization group running of neutrino parameters may lead to significant modifications of the leptonic mixing angles in view of so-called seesaw threshold effects. Especially, we derive analytical formulas for radiative corrections to neutrino parameters in crossing the different seesaw thresholds, and show that there may exist enhancement factors efficiently boosting the renormalization group running of the leptonic mixing angles. We find that, as a result of the seesaw threshold corrections to the leptonic mixing angles, various flavor …
Data in $B$-meson decays indicate violations of lepton flavour universality, thereby raising the question about such phenomena in the charm sector. We perform a model-independent analysis of NP contributions in (semi)-leptonic decays of $D_{(s)}$ mesons which originate from $c \to d \bar{\ell} ν_{\ell}$ and $c \to s \bar{\ell} ν_{\ell}$ charge-current interactions. Starting from the most general low-energy effective Hamiltonian containing four-fermion operators and the corresponding short-distance coefficients, we explore the impact of new (pseudo)-scalar, vector and tensor operators and const…
