We introduce an ansatz of the PMNS matrix that consists of specific types of transformations. Bi-maximal mixing is taken for the neutrino masses, while a single-angle rotation in the 1-2 block is taken for the charged lepton masses. Motivated by the implications of the recent results on neutrino oscillations, $θ_{23}$ in the first octant and non-zero $θ_{13}$ are predicted by the ansatz. Three physical mixing angles are expressed in terms of a single variable, the 1-2 angle of charged leptons, so that a simple relation among the angles has been obtained: $\tanθ_{13}=\sqrt{2}(\sinθ_{23}-\sinθ_{12})$. It follows that a model of the inverted hierarchy that can produce the given ansatz is proposed.
Bi-large patterns for the leptonic mixing matrix are confronted with current neutrino oscillation data. We analyse the status of these patterns and determine, through realistic simulations, the potential of upcoming long-baseline experiment DUNE in testing bi-large \emph{ansatze} and discriminating amongst them.
We investigate neutrino mass matrix phenomenology involving scaling ansatz and texture zeros adhering inverse seesaw mechanism. It is seen that four is the maximum number of zeros in $m_D$ and $μ$ to obtain viable phenomenology. Depending upon the generic nature of the effective neutrino mass matrices we classify all the emerged matrices in four categories. One of them is ruled out phenomenologically due to inappropriate value of reactor mixing angle after breaking of the scaling ansatz. The mass ordering is inverted in all cases. One of the distinguishable feature of all these categories is t…
We propose a simple framework based on $Δ(27)$ that leads to the successful cobimaximal lepton mixing ansatz, thus providing a predictive explanation for leptonic mixing observables. We explore first the effective neutrino mass operators, then present a specific model realization based on type I seesaw, and also propose a model with radiative 1-loop seesaw which features viable dark matter candidates.
Developing a theory that can describe everything in the universe is of great interest, and is closely relevant to M-theory, neutrino oscillation and charge-parity (CP) violation. Although M-theory is claimed as a grand unified theory, it has not been tested by any direct experiment. Here we show that existing neutrino oscillation experimental data supports one kind of high dimensional unified theory, such as M-theory. We propose a generalization of the tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing ansatz, and we find that the latest neutrino oscillation experimental data constraints dimension in a range betwe…
A model-independent ansatz to describe lepton and quark mixing in a unified way is suggested based upon the Cabibbo angle. In our framework neutrinos mix in a "Bi-Large" fashion, while the charged leptons mix as the "down-type" quarks do. In addition to the standard Wolfenstein parameters (lambda, A) two other free parameters are needed to specify the physical lepton mixing matrix. Through this simple assumption one makes specific predictions for the atmospheric angle as well as leptonic CP violation in good agreement with current observations.
Using the residual symmetry approach, we propose a complex extension of the scaling ansatz on $M_ν$ which allows a nonzero mass for each of the three light neutrinos as well as a nonvanishing $θ_{13}$. Leptonic Dirac CP violation must be maximal while atmospheric neutrino mixing need not to be exactly maximal. Each of the two Majorana phases, to be probed by the search for $0νββ$ decay, has to be zero or $π$ and a normal neutrino mass hierarchy is allowed.
The residual symmetry approach, along with a complex extension for some flavor invariance, is a powerful tool to uncover the flavor structure of the $3\times3$ neutrino Majorana mass matrix $M_ν$ towards gaining insights into neutrino mixing. We utilize this to propose a complex extension of the real scaling ansatz for $M_ν$ which was introduced some years ago. Unlike the latter, our proposal allows a nonzero mass for each of the three light neutrinos as well as a nonvanishing $θ_{13}$. A major result of this scheme is that leptonic Dirac CP-violation must be maximal while atmospheric neutrino…
We comprehensively study the charged-Higgs contributions to the leptonic $B^-_q \to \ell \bar ν$ ($q=u,c$) and semileptonic $\bar B \to X_q \ell \barν$ ($X_u=π, ρ; X_c=D,D^*$) decays in the type-III two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM). We employ the Cheng-Sher ansatz to suppress the tree-level flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNCs) in the quark sector. When the strict constraints from the $ΔB=2$ and $b\to s γ$ processes are considered, parameters $χ^u_{tq}$ from the quark couplings and $χ^\ell_\ell$ from the lepton couplings dictate the leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays. It is found that when …
We study a very specific type of neutrino mass and mixing structure based on the idea of Strong Scaling Ansatz (SSA) where the ratios of neutrino mass matrix elements belonging to two different columns are equal. There are three such possibilities, all of which are disfavored by the latest neutrino oscillation data. We focus on the specific scenario which predicts vanishing reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and inverted hierarchy with vanishing lightest neutrino mass. Motivated by several recent attempts to explain non-zero $θ_{13}$ by incorporating corrections to a leading order neutrino mass or …
In this work we propose an extension to the Standard Model in which we consider the model 2HDM type-III plus massive neutrinos and the horizontal flavor symmetry $S_{3}$ $(ν$2HDM$\otimes S_3)$. In the above framework and with the explicit breaking of flavor symmetry $S_{3}$, the Yukawa matrices in the flavor adapted basis are represented by means of a matrix with two texture zeroes. Also, the active neutrinos are considered as Majorana particles and their masses are generated through type-I seesaw mechanism. The unitary matrices that diagonalize the mass matrices, as well as the flavor mixing …
