The entropy of the Reissner-Nördstrom black hole is studied within the context of a brane-world scenario. Such a black hole is a solution of the Einstein field equations on the brane, possessing a tidal charge which is a reflection of the extra dimension. We use the modified dispersion relation to obtain the entropy of such brane-world black holes. The resulting entropy differs from that of the standard Bekenstein-Hawking's and contains information on the extra dimension.
We consider a DGP brane scenario where a scalar field is present on the brane through the introduction of a scalar potential, itself motivated by the notion of modified gravity. This theory predicts that the mass appearing in the gravitational potential is modified by the addition of the mass of the scalar field. The cosmological implications that such a scenario entails are examined and shown to be consistent with a universe expanding with power-law acceleration.
This work discuss the construction of braneworld solutions in modified gravity with Lagrange multipliers. We examine the general aspects of the model and present a first order formalism that help us to find analytic solutions of the equations of motion. We also investigate some explicit models, analyse linear stability of the metric and comment on how to relate models investigated in other works to the ones examined in the present study.
We modify Randall-Sundrum model of brane-world (with two branes) by adding the scalar curvature squared term in five dimensions. We find that it does not destabilize Randall-Sundrum solution to the hierarchy problem of the Standard Model in particle physics.
In this paper, we will analyze the effects of super-light brane world perturbative modes on clustering of galaxies. In present manuscript, we use the Boltzmann and Tsallis statistical approaches to study the large distance modification of gravity in the brane world. The impact of modified potential on clustering of galaxies is analyzed in both the approaches. The infinities associated with Newtonian point mass approximation of gravity models is removed using the analytical extensions. The regularized and finite partition function is obtained for the system of galaxies in the brane world model …
We construct a warm inflation model with inflaton field non-minimally coupled to induced gravity on a warped DGP brane. We incorporate possible modification of the induced gravity on the brane in the spirit of $f(R)$-gravity. We study cosmological perturbations in this setup. In the case of two field inflation such as warm inflation, usually entropy perturbations are generated. While it is expected that in the case of one field inflation these perturbations to be removed, we show that even in the absence of the radiation field, entropy perturbations are generated in our setup due to non-minima…
Over the past few decades, inflation models have been studied by researchers from different perspectives and conditions in order to introduce a model for the expanding universe. In this paper, we introduce a modified $f(R)$ gravitational model as ($R+γR^{p}$) in order to examine a new condition for inflation models. Given that our studies are related to a modified $f(R)$ gravitational model on the brane, therefore we will encounter modified cosmological parameters. So, we first introduce these modified cosmological parameters such as spectral index, a number of e-folds and etc. Then, we apply …
We analyze the background cosmology for an extension of the DGP gravity with Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and $f(R)$ gravity on the brane. We investigate implications of this setup on the late-time cosmic history. Within a dynamical system approach, we study cosmological dynamics of this setup focusing on the role played by curvature effects. Finally we constraint the parameters of the model by confrontation with recent observational data.
The modified dispersion relation as a common feature of all quantum gravity scenarios provides a perturbation framework upon which the black hole thermodynamics can be corrected. In this letter, we obtain the corrections to the $d$-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole thermodynamics by utilizing the extra dimensional form of the modified dispersion relation, leading to the modification of the Cardy-Verlinde formula. Furthermore, we show that the modified dispersion relation corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde formula can be taken into account by redefining the Virasoro operator and the central c…
Black hole entropy calculations which are based on counting of microstates and based on modified dispersion relations in the framework of loop quantum gravity are considered. We suggest that the inconsistency of two approaches can be explained by different ways. This inconsistency can affect the definition and constancy of the Immirzi parameter or order of the modification constants of dispersion relations. Possible results of these effects are discussed.
In this paper, the cosmological dynamics of a modified holographic dark energy which is derived from the UV/IR duality by considering the black hole mass in higher dimensions as UV cutoff, is investigated in Dvali-Gabadaze-Porrati (DGP) brane world model. We choose Hubble horizon and future event horizon as IR cutoff respectively. And the two branches of the DGP model are both taken into account. When Hubble horizon is considered as IR cutoff, the modified holographic dark energy (HDE) behaves like an effect dark energy that modification of gravity in pure DGP brane world model acts and it can…
In this paper, employing the modified dispersion relation, we have derived the general modified Friedmann equations and the corresponding modified entropy relations for the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe. In this setup, we find that when the big bounce happens, its energy scale and its corresponding modified entropy behavior are sensitive to the value of $k$. In contrast to the previous work with $k=0$, our work mainly demonstrates that the bouncing behavior for the closed Universe with $k=1$ appears at the normal energy limit of the modified dispersion relation introduced, and when…
Observables which would indicate a modified vacuum dispersion relations, possibly caused by quantum gravity effects, are a four momentum dependence of the cosmological redshift and the existence of a so called lateshift effect for massless or very light particles. Existence or non-existence of the later is currently analyzed on the basis of the available observational data from gamma ray bursts and compared to predictions of specific modified dispersion relation models. We consider the most general perturbation of the general relativistic dispersion relation of freely falling particles on homo…
In this work we deal with thick brane solutions in the warped five-dimensional braneworld scenario with a single extra spatial dimension of infinite extent, for a class of modified theories of gravity with a Lagrange multiplier. We first present the action, describe the gravity and field equations, outline a strategy to find explicit solutions and explore the stability of the gravitational sector. The investigation deals mainly with the construction of a first order framework capable of using a single scalar field to simulate warp functions that appear in two-field models. In particular, we fi…
In this manuscript, we investigate the effects of a modified dispersion relation on the thermodynamics of Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by the quintessence matter. We find that the MDR-correction states the same lower bound on the horizon, while the quintessence matter specifies the upper bound to the horizon depending on the state parameter. Due to MDR-correction and quintessence matter presence, we observe modifications in equation of state and specific heat functions of black hole. We show that a remnant can occur according to quintessence matter, and the black hole's stability depend…
We extend the covariant analysis of the brane cosmological evolution in order to take into account, apart from a general matter content and an induced-gravity term on the brane, a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk. The gravitational effect of the bulk matter on the brane evolution can be described in terms of the total bulk mass as measured by a bulk observer at the location of the brane. This mass appears in the effective Friedmann equation through a term characterized as generalized dark radiation that induces mirage effects in the evolution. We discuss the normal and self-accelerating branches …
Planck scale inspired theories which are also often accompanied with maximum energy and/or momentum scale predict deformed dispersion relations compared to ordinary special relativity and quantum mechanics. In this paper we resort to the methods of statistical mechanics in order to determine the effects of a deformed dispersion relation along with upper bound in partition function as maximum energy and/or momentum scale can have on the thermodynamics of photon gas. We have analyzed two distinct quantum gravity models in this paper
We consider the problem of calculating the Green's functions associated to a massive scalar field with modified dispersion relations. We analyze the case when dispersion is modified by higher derivative spatial operators acting on the field orthogonally to a preferred direction, determined by a unit time-like vector field. By assuming that the integral curves of the vector field are geodesics, we expand the modified Klein-Gordon equation in Fermi normal coordinates. By means of a Fourier transform, we find a series representation in momentum-space of the Green's functions. The coefficients of …
A modified formulation of energy-momentum relation is proposed in the context of doubly special relativity. We investigate its impact on black hole physics. It turns out that such modification will give corrections to both the temperature and the entropy of black holes. In particular this modified dispersion relation also changes the picture of Hawking radiation greatly when the size of black holes approaching the Planck scale. It can prevent black holes from total evaporation, as a result providing a plausible mechanism to treat the remnant of black holes as a candidate for dark matter.
The Hamiltonian formulation of modified dispersion relations (MDRs) allows for their implementation on generic curved spacetimes. In turn it is possible to derive phenomenological effects. I will present how to construct the kappa-Poincare dispersion relation on curved spacetimes, its spherically symmetric realizations, among them the kappa deformation of Schwarzschild spacetime, and its implementation on Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker spacetimes with arbitrary scale factor. In addition we will construct the general first order modifications of the general relativistic dispersion relation…
We consider a modified gravity fluid on a Randall-Sundrum II brane situated at y=0, the action containing a power αof the scalar curvature. As is known from 4D spatially flat modified gravity, the presence of a bulk viscosity may drive the cosmic fluid into the phantom region (w < -1) and thereafter inevitably into the Big Rip singularity, even it is initially nonviscous and lies in the quintessence region (w > -1). The condition for this to occur is that the bulk viscosity contains the power (2α-1) of the scalar expansion. We combine this with the 5D RS II model, and find that the Big Rip, oc…
Rainbow metrics are a widely used approach to metric formalism for theories with Modified Dispersion Relations. They have had a huge success in the Quantum Gravity Phenomenology literature, since they allow to introduce momentum-dependent spacetime metrics into the description of systems with Modified Dispersion Relation. In this paper, we introduce the reader to some realizations of this general idea: the original Rainbow metrics proposal, the momentum-space-inspired metric, the standard Finsler geometry approach and our alternative definition of a four-velocity-dependent metric with a massle…
We study the thermodynamics of a moving Schwarzschild black hole, identifying the temperature and entropy in a relativistic scenario. Furthermore, we set arguments in a framework relating invariant geometrical quantities under global spacetime transformations and the dispersion relation of the system. We then extended these arguments in order to consider more general dispersion relations, and identify criteria to rule them out.
We compute the black hole entropy in the context of the Modified Dispersion Relations using the brick wall model. An explicit dependence of the radial coordinate approaching the horizon is shown to analyze the behavior of the divergence. We find that, due to the modification of the density of states, the brick wall can be eliminated. By assuming a specific form for the radial coordinate $r(E/E_{P}) $, we examine a possible candidate for $r(E/E_{P}) $. A comparison with the 't Hooft approach is presented.
We study the procedure that allows to rewrite the actions of some modified gravity theories like mimetic gravity and Regge-Teitelboim embedding theory as Einstein-Hilbert actions with additional matter contributions. It turns out that this procedure can be applied to brane action, which lead to a polynomial brane action. We also examine the connection between this procedure and Polyakov trick in string theory.
The covariant understanding of dispersion relations as level sets of Hamilton functions on phase space enables us to derive the most general dispersion relation compatible with homogeneous and isotropic spacetimes. We use this concept to present a Planck-scale deformation of the Hamiltonian of a particle in Friedman-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) geometry that is locally identical to the $κ$-Poincaré dispersion relation, in the same way as the dispersion relation of point particles in general relativity is locally identical to the one valid in special relativity. Studying the motion of parti…
We propose a braneworld scenario in a modified symmetric teleparallel gravitational theory, where the dynamics for the gravitational field is encoded in the nonmetricity tensor rather than in the curvature. Assuming a single real scalar field with a sine-Gordon self-interaction, the generalized quadratic nonmetricity invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ controls the brane width while keeping the shape of the energy density. By considering power corrections of the invariant $\mathbb{Q}$ in the gravitational Lagrangian, the sine-Gordon potential is modified exhibiting new barriers and false vacuum. As a resul…
We show that the running of gravitational couplings, together with a suitable identification of the renormalization group scale can give rise to modified dispersion relations for massive particles. This result seems to be compatible with both the frameworks of effective field theory with Lorentz invariance violation and deformed special relativity. The phenomenological consequences depend on which of the frameworks is assumed. We discuss the nature and strength of the available constraints for both cases and show that in the case of Lorentz invariance violation, the theory would be strongly co…
We construct a holographic dark energy model in a braneworld setup that gravity is induced on the brane embedded in a bulk with Gauss-Bonnet curvature term. We include possible modification of the induced gravity and its coupling with a canonical scalar field on the brane. Through a perturbational approach to calculate the effective gravitation constant on the brane, we examine the outcome of this model as a candidate for holographic dark energy.
Many quantum theories of gravity propose Lorentz violating dispersion relations of the form $ω= |k|\, f(|k|/M)$, with recovery of approximate Lorentz invariance at energy scales much below $M$. We show that a quantum field with this dispersion predicts drastic low energy Lorentz violation in atoms modelled as Unruh-DeWitt detectors, for any $f$ that dips below unity somewhere. As an example, we show that polymer quantization motivated by loop quantum gravity predicts such Lorentz violation below current ion collider rapidities.
Using a confining potential, we consider spherically symmetric vacuum (static black hole) solutions in a brane-world scenario. Working with a constant curvature bulk, two interesting cases/solutions are studied. A Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole solution similar to the standard solution in the presence of a cosmological constant is obtained which confirms the idea that an extra term in the field equations on the brane can play the role of a positive cosmological constant and may be used to account for the accelerated expansion of the universe. The other solution is one in which we can have …
We explore the cosmological implications provided by the geodetic brane gravity action corrected by an extrinsic curvature brane term, describing a codimension-1 brane embedded in a 5D fixed Minkowski spacetime. In the geodetic brane gravity action, we accommodate the correction term through a linear term in the extrinsic curvature swept out by the brane. We study the resulting geodetic-type equation of motion. Within a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric, we obtain a generalized Friedmann equation describing the associated cosmological evolution. We observe that, when the radiation-like energy …
We compute Zero Point Energy in a spherically symmetric background with the help of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. This last one is regarded as a Sturm-Liouville problem with the cosmological constant considered as the associated eigenvalue. The graviton contribution, at one loop is extracted wit the help of a variational approach together with Gaussian trial functionals. The divergences handled with a zeta function regularization are compared with the results obtained using a Noncommutative Geometry (NCG) and Modified Dispersion Relations (MDR). In both NCG and MDR no renormalization scheme is …
We derive the Lichnerowicz equation in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term. Using the modified Lichnerowicz equation we study the metric perturbations of Gauss-Bonnet black strings in Codimension-2 Braneworlds.
We study the thick brane world system constructed in the recently proposed $f(R,T)$ theories of gravity, with $R$ the Ricci scalar and $T$ the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We try to get the analytic background solutions and discuss the full linear perturbations, especially the scalar perturbations. We compare how the brane world model is modified with that of general relativity coupled to a canonical scalar field. It is found that some more interesting background solutions are allowed, and only the scalar perturbation mode is modified. There is no tachyon state exists in this model and…
This paper is dedicated to investigate an astrophysical method to obtain the new dynamics generated by extra dimensions as well as bounds for the brane tension. Using the modified Einstein equations in the brane with a vanishing non-local effects, we study the contributions of the modified radiated power by gravitational waves and the stellar period modified by branes in a binary system composed by two neutron stars. Finally we propose two lower energy bounds, using these astrophysical methods.
In this paper, we study the effects which are produced by the interaction between a brane Universe and the bulk in which the Universe is embedded. Taking into account the effects produced by the interaction between a brane Universe and the bulk, we derived the Equation of State (EoS) parameter $ω_D$ for three different models of Dark Energy (DE), \emph{i.e.} the Holographic DE (HDE) model with infrared (IR) cut-off given by the Granda-Oliveros cut-off, the Modified Holographic Ricci DE (MHRDE) model and a DE model which is function of the Hubble parameter $H$ squared and to higher derivatives …

Paths of test particles, rotating and charged objects in brane-worlds using a modified Bazanski Lagrangian are derived. We also discuss the transition to their corresponding equations in four dimensions. We then make a comparison between the given equations in brane-worlds (BW) and their analog in space-time-matter (STM) theory.
We investigate the effects of a modified dispersion relation proposed by Majhi and Vagenas on the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole thermodynamics in a universe with large extra dimensions. It is shown that entropy, temperature and heat capacity receive new corrections and charged black holes in this framework have less degrees of freedom and decay faster compared to black holes in the Hawking picture. We also study the emission rate of black hole and compare our results with other quantum gravity approaches. In this regard, the existence of the logarithmic prefactor and the relation between dimen…
In this work we investigate the background dynamics when dark energy is coupled to dark matter with a suitable interaction in the universe described by brane cosmology. Here DGP and the RSII brane models have been considered separately. Dark energy in the form of modified Chaplygin gas is considered. A suitable interaction between dark energy and dark matter is considered in order to at least alleviate (if not solve) the cosmic coincidence problem. The dynamical system of equations is solved numerically and a stable scaling solution is obtained. A significant attempt towards the solution of th…
We study possible links between quantum gravity phenomenology encoding Lorentz violations as nonlinear dispersions, the Einstein-Finsler gravity models, EFG, and nonholonomic (non-integrable) deformations to Hořava-Lifshitz, HL, and/or Einstein's general relativity, GR, theories. EFG and its scaling anisotropic versions formulated as Hořava-Finsler models, HF, are constructed as covariant metric compatible theories on (co) tangent bundle to Lorentz manifolds and respective anisotropic deformations. Such theories are integrable in general form and can be quantized following standard methods of …
Recently, path equations have been obtained for charged, spinning objects in brane world models, using a modified Bazanski Lagrangian. In this study, path deviation equations of extended objects are derived. The significance of moving extended objects in brane world models is examined. Motion in non- symmetric brane world models is also considered.
We describe the Hamilton geometry of the phase space of particles whose motion is characterised by general dispersion relations. In this framework spacetime and momentum space are naturally curved and intertwined, allowing for a simultaneous description of both spacetime curvature and non-trivial momentum space geometry. We consider as explicit examples two models for Planck-scale modified dispersion relations, inspired from the $q$-de Sitter and $κ$-Poincaré quantum groups. In the first case we find the expressions for the momentum and position dependent curvature of spacetime and momentum sp…
In this paper we argue that modified Friedmann equations with a bounce solution can be derived from a modified dispersion relation by employing a thermodynamical description of general relativity on the apparent horizon.
We study a Randall-Sundrum model modified by a Gauss-Bonnet interaction term. We consider, in particular, a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric on the brane and analyse the resulting cosmological scenario. It is shown that the usual Friedmann equations are recovered on the brane. The equation of state relating the enery density and the pressure is uniquely determined by the matching conditions. A cosmological solution with negative pressure is found.
We study the scalar and vector channels of gravitational quasinormal modes for Lifshitz black branes emerging in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton and Einstein-Proca theories in four and five dimensions, finding significant differences between the two models. In particular, rather surprisingly, in the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton model the dispersion relations for the shear and sound modes are given by $ω_{shear} \sim -i\,k^4$ and $ω_{sound}\sim-i \,k^2$, while in the Einstein-Proca model they take the more conventional form $ω_{shear} \sim -i\,k^2$ and $ω_{sound}\sim k$, the proportionality constants depe…
Singularities in the dark energy late universe are discussed, under the assumption that the Lagrangian contains the Einstein term R plus a modified gravity term R^α, where αis a constant. The 4D fluid is taken to be viscous and composed of two components, one Einstein component where the bulk viscosity is proportional to the scalar expansion θ, and another modified component where the bulk viscosity is proportional to the power θ^{2α-1}. Under these conditions it is known from earlier that the bulk viscosity can drive the fluid from the quintessence region (w > -1) into the phantom region (w<-…
We construct a DGP-inspired braneworld model where induced gravity on the brane is modified in the spirit of $f(R)$ gravity and stringy effects are taken into account by incorporation of the Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk action. We explore cosmological dynamics of this model and we show that this scenario is a successful alternative for dark energy proposal. Interestingly, it realizes the phantom-like behavior without introduction of any phantom field on the brane and the effective equation of state parameter crosses the cosmological constant line naturally in the same way as observational dat…
In this paper, we study the effects of Generalized Uncertainty Principle(GUP) and Modified Dispersion Relations(MDRs) on the thermodynamics of ultra-relativistic particles in early universe. We show that limitations imposed by GUP and particle horizon on the measurement processes, lead to certain modifications of early universe thermodynamics.
We investigate the hypothetical process of gravitational Cherenkov radiation, which may occur in modified gravity theories. We obtain a useful constraint on a modified dispersion relation for propagating modes of gravitational waves, which could be predicted as a consequence of violation of the Lorentz invariance in modified theories of gravity. The constraint from gravitational Cherenkov radiation and that from direct measurements of the gravitational waves emitted by a compact binary system are complementary to each other.
We describe a novel mechanism to seed a nearly scale invariant spectrum of adiabatic perturbations during a non-inflationary stage. It relies on a modified dispersion relation that contains higher powers of the spatial momentum of matter perturbations. We implement this idea in the context of a massless scalar field in an otherwise perfectly homogeneous universe. The couplings of the field to background scalars and tensors give rise to the required modification of its dispersion relation, and the couplings of the scalar to matter result in an adiabatic primordial spectrum. This work is meant t…
Motivated by the recently derived new form of generalized uncertainty principle we obtain the corresponding dispersion relation which is now modified. This modification can be interpreted as a possible mechanism that makes particles more massive. In addition, the modified velocity of photons is obtained and indicates that photons' propagation depends on their energy, thus superluminal photons are permitted due to generalized uncertainty principle. Furthermore, we derive and solve the two-dimensional Klein-Gordon equation in the presence of GUP corrections, and therefore the GUP-corrected emiss…
An analysis of a spherically symmetric braneworld configuration is performed when the intrinsic curvature scalar is included in the bulk action. In the case when the electric part of the Weyl tensor is zero, all the exterior solutions are found; one of them is of the Schwarzschild-(A)dS(4) form, which is matched to a modified Oppenheimer-Volkoff interior solution. In the case when the electric part of the Weyl tensor is non zero, the exterior Schwarzschild-(A)dS(4) black hole solution is modified receiving corrections from the non-local bulk effects. A non-universal gravitational constant aris…
There is evidence that trans-Planckian physics does not affect the Hawking radiation in four dimensions and, consequently, deviations from the linear dispersion relation (for massless particles) at very high energies cannot be revealed using four-dimensional black holes. We study this issue in the context of models with extra spatial dimensions and show that small black holes that could be produced in accelerators might also provide a chance of testing the high energy regime where non-linear dispersion relations are generally expected.
Modified gravity theories generically predict a violation of Lorentz invariance, which may lead to a modified dispersion relation for propagating modes of gravitational waves. We construct a parametrized dispersion relation that can reproduce a range of known Lorentz-violating predictions and investigate their impact on the propagation of gravitational waves. A modified dispersion relation forces different wavelengths of the gravitational wave train to travel at slightly different velocities, leading to a modified phase evolution observed at a gravitational-wave detector. We show how such corr…
We investigate the role of bulk viscous pressure on the warm inflationary modified Chaplygin gas in brane-world framework in the presence of standard scalar field. We assume the intermediate inflationary scenario in strong dissipative regime and constructed the inflaton, potential, entropy density, slow-roll parameters, scalar and tensor power spectra, scalar spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio. We develop various trajectories such as $n_s - N$, $n_s - r$ and $n_s - α_s$ (where $n_s$ is the spectral index, $α_s$ is the running of spectral index, $N$ is the number of e-folds and $r$ is te…
Considering corrections produced by modified dispersion relations on the equation of state parameter of radiation, we study the induced black hole metric inspired by Kiselev's ansatz, thus defining a deformed Reissner-Nordström metric. In particular, we consider thermodynamic properties of such a black hole from the combined viewpoints of the modified equation of state parameter and the phenomenological approach to the quantum gravity problem called rainbow gravity.
