英文摘要:
The most recent measurements at Tevatron of the charge asymmetry in top-antitop quark pair production reduce the discrepancy with the Standard Model from 2sigma to 1.7sigma, and open a little window, at 95% C.L., for negative contributions to the charge asymmetry beyond the SM. We update our analysis for colour octet gauge bosons or axigluons in flavour universal and flavour non universal scenarios. We review other possible models and make an educated guess on their parameter space allowed by the new measurements. Finally, we comment on the prospects to measure the charge asymmetry at the LHC.
The charge asymmetry in top quark production at hadron colliders is sensitive to beyond-the-Standard-Model four-fermion interactions. In this study we compare the sensitivity of cross-section and charge asymmetry measurements to effective operators describing four-fermion interactions and study the limits on the validity of this approach. A fit to a combination of Tevatron and LHC measurements yields stringent limits on the linear combinations $C_1$ and $C_2$ of the four-fermion effective operators.
An overview of the most recent measurements on top quark charge asymmetry in top quark pair production is presented. The results are obtained using data collected with ATLAS and CMS detectors in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 8 TeV. In these studies, either dileptonic or semileptonic top pair decays are analyzed. All measurements are comparable with the standard model prediction and no sign of new physics is observed.
We consider the charge asymmetry in the differential cross section of the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow π^+π^-$. Experimental data show large deviations from the results of the available theoretical calculations. Motivated by this fact, we revisit the contribution of the two photon exchange diagrams and find the origin of discrepancy in an oversimplified account of the pion internal structure in the theoretical calculations. We present a natural and simple approach that accounts for the pion structure in a more consistent way and find remarkable agreement with the experimental data.
We reconsider the recent observation by the D0 experiment of a sizable like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry, highlighting that it could be affected by CP-violating New Physics contributions not only in Bd- and Bs-meson mixings, but also in semileptonic decays of b and c quarks producing muons. The D0, measurement could be reconciled with the Standard Model expectations for neutral-meson mixings, provided that the CP asymmetry in semileptonic b (c) decays reaches 0.3 % (1%). Such effects, which lie within the available (rather loose) experimental bounds, would be clear indications of New Physics a…
We review in some detail the QCD corrections to the measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry of heavy quarks in the $\mathrm{e^+e^-\rightarrow Q\overline{Q}(g)}$ process at the Z pole. We show that the size of these corrections can be reduced by an order of magnitude by using simple cuts on jet acollinearity. Such a reduction is expected to lead to systematic uncertainties at the $Δ\mathrm{A_{FB}^{0,Q}} \approx 10^{-4}$ level, opening up the path to high precision electroweak measurements with heavy flavors at future high luminosity $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ colliders like the FCC-ee.
Processes producing a charged final state at the LHC have a positive integral charge asymmetry. We propose a novel method for an indirect measurement of the mass of these final states based upon the process integral charge asymmetry. First, the theoretical prediction of the integral charge asymmetry and its related uncertainties are studied through parton level cross sections calculations. Then, the experimental extraction of the integral charge asymmetry of a given signal, in the presence of some background, is performed using particle level simulations. Process dependent templates enable to …
This study focuses on hard diffractive events produced in proton-proton collision at LHC exhibiting one intact proton in the final state which can be tagged by forward detectors. We report prospective results on the W boson charge asymmetry measured for such events, which allow to constrain the quark diffractive density functions in the Pomeron.
We calculate the leading Coulomb correction to the energy loss in the electron-nucleus Bremsstrahlung for arbitrary energy of the incoming particle. This correction determines the charge asymmetry, i.e., the difference of electron and positron energy loss. The result is presented in terms of the classical polylogarithms $\mathrm{Li}_2$ and $\mathrm{Li}_3$. We use modern multiloop methods based on the IBP reduction and on the differential equations for master integrals. We provide both the threshold and the high-energy asymptotics of the found asymmetry and compare them with the available resul…
We consider the top quark charge asymmetry in the process $pp \to t\bar{t}+γ$ at the 13 TeV LHC. The genuine tree level asymmetry in the $q\bar{q}$ channel is large with about -12%. However, the symmetric $gg$ channel, photon radiation off top quark decay products, and higher order corrections wash out the asymmetry and obscure its observability. In this work, we investigate these effects at next-to-leading order QCD and check the robustness of theoretical predictions. We find a sizable perturbative correction and discuss its origins and implications. We also study dedicated cuts for enhancing…
