A class of non-supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model is proposed in which there is a multiplicity of light scalar doublets in a multiplet of a non-abelian family group with the Standard Model Higgs doublet. Anthropic tuning makes the latter light, and consequently the other scalar doublets remain light because of the family symmetry. The family symmetry greatly constrains the pattern of FCNC and proton decay operators coming from scalar-exchange. Such models show that useful constraints on model-building can come from an extended naturalness principle when the electroweak scale is anthropically tuned.
We discuss the connection between the top quark, naturalness and flavor in composite Higgs models. The phenomenological features of the top quark and the associated fermionic partners are presented. The main realizations of the flavor structure, in particular the anarchic partial compositeness scenario and its possible modifications, are also briefly reviewed.
In the absence of low-energy supersymmetry, a multiplicity of weak-scale Higgs doublets would require additional fine-tunings unless they formed an irreducible multiplet of a non-abelian symmetry. Remnants of such symmetry typically render some Higgs fields stable, giving several dark matter particles of various masses. The non-abelian symmetry also typically gives simple, testable mass relations.
We study the minimal type-III seesaw model in which we extend the SM by adding two $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermions with zero hypercharge to explain the origin of the non-zero neutrino masses. We show that the naturalness conditions and the limits from lepton flavor violating decays provide very stringent bounds on the model parameters along with the constraints from the stability/metastability of the electroweak vacuum. We perform a detailed analysis of the model parameter space including all the constraints for both normal as well as inverted hierarchies of the light neutrino masses. We find that …
The gauge model with $SO(3)_{F}$ flavor symmetry and three Higgs triplets is studied. We show how the intriguing nearly degenerate neutrino mass and bi-maximal mixing scenario comes out naturally after spontaneous breaking of the symmetry. The hierarchy between the neutrino mass-squared differences, which is needed for reconciling both solar and atmospheric neutrino data, is naturally resulted from an approximate permutation symmetry. The model can also lead to interesting phenomena on lepton-flavor violations via the $SO(3)_{F}$ gauge interactions.
We study the contributions of supersymmetric models with a $U(1)$ horizontal symmetry and only spontaneous CP breaking to various lepton flavor observables, such as $μ\to eγ$ and the electron electric dipole moment. We show that both a horizontal symmetry and a lack of explicit CP violation can alleviate the existing bounds from such observables. The undetermined $\mathcal{O}(1)$ coefficients in such mass matrix models muddle the interpretation of the bounds from various flavor observables. To overcome this, we define a new fine-tuning measure for different observables in such setups. This all…
We introduce three right-handed neutrinos and three sterile neutrinos, and consider an inverse seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation. From naturalness point of view, their Majorana masses should be small, while it induces a large neutrino Yukawa coupling. Then, a neutrinoless double beta decay rate can be enhanced, and a sizable Higgs mass correction is inevitable. We find that the enhancement rate can be more than ten times compared with a standard prediction from light neutrino contribution alone, and an analytic form of heavy neutrino contributions to the Higgs mass correction. In a…
A warped extra-dimensional model, where the Standard Model Yukawa hierarchy is set by UV physics, is shown to have a sweet spot of parameters with improved experimental visibility and possibly naturalness. Upon marginalizing over all the model parameters, a Kaluza-Klein scale of 2.1 TeV can be obtained at 2 sigma (95.4 CL) without conflicting with electroweak precision measurements. Fitting all relevant parameters simultaneously can relax this bound to 1.7 TeV. In this bulk version of the Rattazzi-Zaffaroni shining model, flavor violation is also highly suppressed, yielding a bound of 2.4 TeV.…
The importance of incorporating flavor constraints, when providing bounds on new physics is stressed. As is well known it is very difficult for models of new physics to have scales lighter than about 10 TeV once flavor constraints are built in. Although, in the conventional sense, this higher scale means more tuning, it may well make the underlying theory simpler as illustrated with one example. Direct production of new particles heavier than about 5 TeV becomes very difficult at LHC though indirect signals such as deviations in the Higgs to gamma gamma branching ratio may still be possible. A…
Weak scale supersymmetric theories often suffer from several naturalness problems: the problems of reproducing the correct scale for electroweak symmetry breaking, the correct abundance for dark matter, and small rates for flavor violating processes. We argue that the first two problems point to particular regions of parameter space in models with weak scale supersymmetry: those with a small mu term. This has an interesting implication on direct dark matter detection experiments. We find that, if the signs of the three gaugino mass parameters are all equal, we can obtain a solid lower bound on…
We study constraints from LHC run I on squark and gluino masses in the presence of squark flavor violation. Inspired by the concept of `flavored naturalness', we focus on the impact of a non-zero stop-scharm mixing and mass splitting in the right-handed sector. To this end, we recast four searches of the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, dedicated either to third generation squarks, to gluino and squarks of the first two generations, or to charm-squarks. In the absence of extra structure, the mass of the gluino provides an additional source of fine tuning and is therefore important to consider wit…
We consider certain naturalness questions in supersymmetric theories. Various suggestions which give rise to squark degeneracies are reviewed. A stringy scenario, discussed by Kaplunovsky and Louis, is the only one which leads to complete degeneracy of squarks and sleptons at the high scale. Alternatives include the possible existence of a gauged non-Abelian horizontal symmetry, broken at some scale, and theories in which the ``messengers" of supersymmetry breaking are gauge interactions. A model of the latter type is described, in which supersymmetry is {\it dynamically} broken at TeV energie…
Supersymmetry solves the gauge hierarchy problem of the Standard Model if the masses of supersymmetric partners of the SM particles are close to the weak scale. In this thesis, we argue that the supersymmetric Standard Model, while avoiding the fine tuning in electroweak symmetry breaking, requires unnaturalness/fine tuning in some (other) sector of the theory. For example, Baryon and Lepton number violating operators are allowed which lead to proton decay and flavor changing neutral currents. We study some of the constraints from the latter in this thesis. We have to impose an R-parity for th…
In the absence of universality the naturalness upper limits on supersymmetric particle masses increase significantly. The superpartners of the two light generations can be much heavier than the weak scale without extreme fine-tunings; they can weigh up to about 900 GeV --- or even up to 5 TeV, if SU(5) universality is invoked. This supresses sparticle-mediated rare processes and consequently ameliorates the problem of supersymmetric flavor violations. On the other hand, even without universality, the gluino and stop remain below about 400 GeV while the charginos and neutralinos are likely to b…
We explore the possible tie between the naturalness of having a very small strong CP $θ$ parameter in the Kobayashi-Maskawa Model and the flavor symmetry. We provide many examples in which the flavor symmetry group at high energy can naturally give rise to Kobayashi-Maskawa Model at low energy with a naturally small theta.
Naturalness arguments do not forbid the possibility that the first two families of squarks and sleptons are heavier than the rest of the supersymmetric spectrum. In this framework, we study the phenomenology related to the flavor physics and we give bounds on the flavor violating parameters that we compare with the case of nearly degenerate squarks. The peculiar structure of the hierarchical scheme allows us to make definite predictions and suggests also a natural size for the flavor violating parameters.
The SUSY flavor, CP, gravitino and proton-decay problems are all solved to varying degrees by a decoupling solution wherein first/second generation matter scalars would exist in the multi-TeV regime. Recent models of natural SUSY presumably allow for a co-existence of naturalness with the decoupling solution. We show that: if sfermions are heavier than $\sim 10$ TeV, then a small first/second generation contribution to electroweak fine-tuning (EWFT) requires a rather high degree of intra-generational degeneracy of either 1. (separately) squarks and sleptons, 2. (separately) left- and right-typ…
We consider the extension of the Standard Model by a complex scalar triplet field, which occurs naturally in several models of leptogenesis and see-saw mechanism for neutrino mass generation, in the context of ameliorating the fine-tuning problem of the fundamental scalars through the Veltman Condition, i.e. by demanding the sum of the quadratically divergent corrections to vanish (or be at a reasonable level) by virtue of some possible symmetry of the underlying theory. We show that it is possible to cancel all the scalar one-loop quadratic divergences and hence obtain a viable solution for t…
Minimal Flavor Violation offers an alternative symmetry rationale to R-parity conservation for the suppression of proton decay in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. The naturalness of such theories is generically under less tension from LHC searches than R-parity conserving models. The flavor symmetry can also guarantee the stability of dark matter if it carries flavor quantum numbers. We outline general features of supersymmetric flavored dark matter (SFDM) models within the framework of MFV SUSY. A simple model of top flavored dark matter is presented. If the dark matter is a t…
Many models of electroweak symmetry-breaking with an extended Higgs sector exhibit improved naturalness, wherein the new physics scale, at which quadratic divergences of Higgs mass parameters due to top quark loops are cut off, can be pushed beyond the reach of the Large Hadron Collider without unnatural fine tuning. Such models include examples where the new physics is supersymmetry, implying that supersymmetry may still solve the hierarchy problem, even if it eludes detection at the LHC.
Sensitivity to the square of the cutoff scale of quantum corrections of the Higgs boson mass self-energy has led many authors to conclude that the Higgs theory suffers from a naturalness or fine-tuning problem. However, speculative new physics ideas to solve this problem have not manifested themselves yet at high-energy colliders, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. For this reason, the role of naturalness as a guide to theory model-building is being severely questioned. Most attacks suggest that one should not resort to arguments involving gravity, which is a much less understood quant…
We explore a flavor structure of quarks in the standard model under the assumption that flavor symmetries exist in a theory beyond the standard model, and chase after their properties, using a bottom-up approach. We reacknowledge that a flavor-symmetric part of Yukawa coupling matrix can be realized by a rank-one matrix and a democratic-type one occupies a special position, based on Dirac's naturalness.
We report on a detailed analysis of a SO(10) SUSY GUT model of Dermisek and Raby (DR) with a D3 family symmetry. The model is completely specified in terms of only 24 parameters and is able to successfully describe both quark and lepton masses and mixings, except for |Vub| that turns out to be too low. However, a global fit shows that flavor changing (FC) processes like Bs --> mu+ mu-, Bs-mixing, B+ --> tau+ nu, B --> Xs gamma and B --> Xs l+ l- pose a serious problem to the DR model. The simultaneous description of these FC processes forces squarks to have masses well above 1 TeV, not appeali…
New light singlet scalars with flavor-specific couplings represent a phenomenologically distinctive and flavor-safe alternative to the well-studied possibility of Higgs-portal scalars. However, in contrast to the Higgs portal, flavor-specific couplings require an ultraviolet completion involving new heavy states charged under the Standard Model gauge symmetries, leading to a host of additional novel phenomena. Focusing for concreteness on a scenario with up quark-specific couplings, we investigate two simple renormalizable completions, one with an additional vector-like quark and another featu…
In focus point supersymmetry, all squarks and sleptons, including those of the third generation, have multi-TeV masses without sacrificing naturalness. We examine the implications of this framework for low energy constraints and the light Higgs boson mass. Undesirable contributions to proton decay and electric dipole moments, generic in many supersymmetric models, are strongly suppressed. As a result, the prediction for alpha_s in simple grand unified theories is 3 to 5 standard deviations closer to the experimental value, and the allowed CP-violating phases are larger by one to two orders of …
The necessity of the fourth family follows from the SM basics. According to flavor democracy the Dirac masses of the fourth SM family fermions are almost equal with preferable value 450 GeV, which corresponds to common (for all fundamental fermions) Yukawa coupling equal to SU(2) gauge coupling gW. In principle, one expect u4 a little bit lighter than d4, while nu4 could be essentially lighter than l4 due to Majorana mass terms for right-handed components of neutrinos. Obviously, the fourth family quarks will be copiously produced at the LHC. However, the first indication of the fourth SM fami…
We present a common explanation of the fermion mass hierarchy and the large lepton mixing angles in the context of a grand unified flavor and gauge theory (GUTF). Our starting point is a SU(3)xU(1) flavor symmetry and a SO(10) GUT, a basic ingredient of our theory which plays a major role is that two different breaking pattern of the flavor symmetry are at work. On one side, the dynamical breaking of SU(3)xU(1) flavor symmetry into U(2)xZ_3 explains why one family is much heavier than the others. On the other side, an explicit symmetry breaking of SU(3) into a discrete flavor symmetry leads to…
In a previous work, we proposed an extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model including heavy quark flavors. In this work, we will calculate strong and radiative decays of vector mesons in this extended NJL model, including light $ρ$, $ω$, $K^*$, $ϕ$ and heavy $D^*$, $D^*_s$, $B^*$, $B^*_s$.
The supersymmetric flavor, CP and Polonyi problems are hints that the fundamental scale of the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters may be above a TeV, in apparent conflict with naturalness. We consider the possibility that multi-TeV scalar masses are generated by Planck- or unification-scale physics, and find the conditions under which the masses of scalars with large Yukawa couplings are driven, radiatively and asymptotically, to the weak scale through renormalization group evolution. Light third generation scalars then satisfy naturalness, while first and second generation scalars remain …
In the contest of a Two Higgs Doublet Model without flavor conservation, the presence of Flavor Changing Neutral Scalar Currents may affect in particular the couplings of the top quark. Some ideas on how to look for new signals from Flavor Changing Interactions at the next generation of lepton colliders are presented.
Supersymmetric B-L extension of the Standard Model (SM) is one of the best candidate for physics beyond the SM that accounts for TeV scale seesaw mechanism and provides an attractive solution for the Higgs naturalness problem. We analyze the charged lepton flavor violation (LFV) in this class of models. We show that due to the smallness of Dirac neutrino Yukawa coupling, the decay rates of l_i -> l_j gamma and l_i -> 3 l_j, generated by the renormalization group evolution of soft SUSY breaking terms from GUT to seesaw scale, are quite suppressed. Therefore, this model is free from the stringen…
We show the specific unusual features on chiral gauge anomalies cancellation in the minimal, necessarily 3-3-1, and the largest 3-4-1 weak isospin chiral gauge semisimple group leptoquark-bilepton extensions of the 3-2-1 conventional standard model of nuclear and electromagnetic interactions. In such models a natural explanation for the fundamental question of fermion generation replication arises from the self-consistency of a local gauge quantum field theory, which constrains the number of the QFD fermion families to the QCD color charges.
If supersymmetry (SUSY) solves the hierarchy problem, then naturalness considerations coupled with recent LHC bounds require non-trivial superpartner flavor structures. Such "Natural SUSY" models exhibit a large mass hierarchy between scalars of the third and first two generations as well as degeneracy (or alignment) among the first two generations. In this work, we show how this specific beyond the standard model (SM) flavor structure can be tied directly to SM flavor via "Flavor Mediation". The SM contains an anomaly-free SU(3) flavor symmetry, broken only by Yukawa couplings. By gauging thi…
Models of extended gauge mediation, in which large A-terms arise through direct messenger-MSSM superpotential couplings, are well-motivated by the discovery of the 125 GeV Higgs. However, since these models are not necessarily MFV, the flavor constraints could be stringent. In this paper, we perform the first detailed and quantitative study of the flavor violation in these models. To facilitate our study, we introduce a new tool called FormFlavor for computing precision flavor observables in the general MSSM. We validate FormFlavor and our qualitative understanding of the flavor violation in t…
The aim of this study is to investigate the quadratic divergences using dimensional regularization within the context of the standard model extended by two real scalar singlets (TRSM). This extension provides three neutral scalar fields that mix, after developing its {\it vev}'s, leading to three CP-even Higgs bosons, namely: $h_1$, $h_2$ and $h_3$, which would offer a wide phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as reported recently. Furthermore, to fulfill the Veltman conditions for those three fields, we dwell on the one-loop level ($d_L=2$) of dimensional regularization calculatio…
Based on an extended NJL model including heavy quark flavors, we calculate the form factors of pseudo-scalar and vector mesons. After take into account of the vector-meson-dominance effect which introduce a form factor correction to the quark vector coupling vertices, the form factors and electric radii of $π^+$ and $K^+$ of pseudo-scalar meson in light flavor sector fit the experimental data well. Also the magnetic moments of light vector meson $ρ^+$ and $K^{*+}$ are comparable with other theoretical calculation. The form factors in light-heavy flavor sector are presented to confront with fut…
Recent LHC bounds on squark masses combined with naturalness and flavor considerations motivate non-trivial sfermion mass spectra in the supersymmetric Standard Model. These can arise if supersymmetry breaking is communicated to the visible sector via new extended gauge symmetries. Such extended symmetries must be spontaneously broken, or confined, complicating the calculation of soft masses. We develop a new formalism for calculating perturbative gauge-mediated two-loop soft masses for gauge groups with arbitrary patterns of spontaneous symmetry breaking, simplifying the framework of "Higgsed…
In this work we explore a lepton flavor violation effect induced at one loop for a flavor structure in an extended minimal standard supersymmetric model, considering an ansatz for the trilinear term. In particular we find a finite expression which will show the impact of this phenomena in the $h\to μτ$ decay, produced by a mixing in the trilinear coupling of the soft supersymmetric Lagrangian.
Effective Supersymmetry is presented as a theory of physics above the electroweak scale which has significant theoretical advantages over both the standard model and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The theory is supersymmetric at short distances but differs significantly from the MSSM. Flavor symmetry violation is intimately related to supersymmetry breaking. There is a new physics scale $\mt\sim$~5--20 TeV which sets the mass of the first two sparticle families. Supersymmetric sources of CP violation and flavor changing neutral currents for the first two families are suppres…
We present a Froggatt-Nielsen flavor model that yields a minimal realization of the type-I seesaw mechanism. This seesaw model is minimal for three reasons: (i) It features only two rather than three right-handed sterile neutrinos: N_1 and N_2, which form a pair of pseudo-Dirac neutrinos; (ii) the neutrino Yukawa matrix exhibits flavor alignment, i.e., modulo small perturbations, it contains only three independent parameters; and (iii) the N_1,2 coupling to the electron flavor is parametrically suppressed compared to the muon and tau flavors, i.e., the neutrino Yukawa matrix exhibits an approx…
We perform the one-loop induced charged lepton flavor violating decays of the neutral Higgses in an extended mirror fermion model with non-sterile electroweak-scale right-handed neutrinos and a horizontal $A_4$ symmetry in the lepton sector. We demonstrate that for the 125 GeV scalar $h$ there is tension between the recent LHC result ${\cal B}(h \to τμ) \sim $ 1% and the stringent limits on the rare processes $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to (μ$ or $e) γ$ from low energy experiments.
Against the conventional picture that the mass matrix forms in the quark sectors will take somewhat different structures from those in the lepton sectors, on the basis of an idea that all the mass matrices of quarks and leptons have the same texture, a universal texture of quark and lepton mass matrices is proposed by assuming a discrete symmetry Z_3 and an extended flavor 2\leftrightarrow 3 symmetry. The texture is described by three parameters (including phase parameter). According to this ansatz, the neutrino masses and mixings are investigated.
Models with a light, additional gauge boson are attractive extensions of the standard model. Often these models are only considered as effective low energy theory without any assumption about an UV completion. This leaves not only the hierarchy problem of the SM unsolved, but introduces a copy of it because of the new fundamental scalars responsible for breaking the new gauge group. A possible solution is to embed these models into a supersymmetric framework. However, this gives rise to an additional source of fine-tuning compared to the MSSM and poses the question how natural such a setup is.…
A new class of flavor changing (FC) neutral interactions can arise in models based on extended gauge groups (rank $>$4) when new charged fermions are present together with new neutral gauge bosons. In some cases the FC couplings to a new $Z_1$ are expected to be sizeable, implying that the $Z_1$ mass must be large enough as to explain the observed suppression of FC transitions. Concentrating on E$_6$ models and assuming for the FC parameters a theoretically natural range of values, I show that in most cases the presence of a $Z_1$ much lighter than 1 TeV is unlikely.
We study extensions of the standard model with additional colored scalar fields which can couple directly to quarks. Natural suppression of flavor changing neutral currents implies minimal flavor violation, and fixes the scalars to transform as (8,2)_1/2 under the SU(3) X SU(2) X U(1) gauge symmetry. We explore the phenomenology of the standard model with one additional (8,2)_1/2 scalar, and discuss how this extension can modify flavor physics and the Higgs boson production rate at the LHC. Custodial SU(2) symmetry can be implemented for the octet scalars since they transform as a real color r…
We consider an $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ extended left-right symmetric gauge theory where the neutrino masses are generated through inverse seesaw mechanism. In this model the muon $(g-2)$ anomaly is accounted for by the mediation of $Z_{μτ}$, the gauge boson of $U(1)_{L_μ- L_τ}$ symmetry. The symmetries of the model require the light neutrino mass matrix to have a particular two-zero texture, which leads to non-trivial constraints in the minimum neutrino mass. In addition, the model predicts observable charged lepton flavor violation in $μ-τ$ sector.
An extended spin-space model in $7+1$ dimensions is presented that describes the standard-model electroweak quark sector. Up to four generations of massless and massive quarks and two-Higgs doublets derive from the associated representation space, in addition to the W- and Z-vector bosons. Other mass operators are obtained that put restrictions on additional non-Higgs scalars and their vacuum expectation value. After symmetry breaking, the scalar components give rise to a hierarchy effect vertically (within doublets) associated to the Higgs fields, and horizontally (within generations) associa…
In the world without an axion the smallness of $\barθ$ may be achieved due to a spontaneously broken discrete left-right symmetry. We analyze the radiatively induced \barθin the context of generic left-right symmetric SUSY models without assuming flavor degeneracy in the squark sector. Left-right symmetry allows to keep \barθwithin its present bound only if the inter-generational mass splitting in the squark sector at the scale of the left-right symmetry breaking is smaller than 0.5%. We also consider the naturalness of m_u=0 solution to the strong CP problem in the context of horizontal flavo…
In this paper, we consider a solution to explain the three discrepancies with the standard model (SM) predictions in flavor observables, i.e. anomalies in $B\rightarrow K^\astμ^+μ^-$ and $R_K=\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow Kμ^+μ^-)/\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow K e^+e^-)$ at the LHCb and an excess in $h\rightarrow μτ$ at the CMS in the context of R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetry. We demonstrate that these anomalies can be explained within a unified framework: the minimal supersymmetry model (MSSM) extended with $5+\overline{5}$ vectorlike (VL) particles. The new trilinear RPV couplings involving VL…
We propose a new solution to the supersymmetric flavor problem without flavor-blind mediation. Our proposal is to enforce a continuous or a suitably large discrete R-symmetry on weak scale supersymmetry, so that Majorana gaugino masses, trilinear A-terms, and the mu-term are forbidden. We find that replacing the MSSM with an R-symmetric supersymmetric model allows order one flavor-violating soft masses, even for squarks of order a few hundred GeV. The minimal R-symmetric supersymmetric model contains Dirac gaugino masses and R-symmetric Higgsino masses with no left-right mixing in the squark o…
Ordinary technicolor and extended technicolor cannot produce the heavy top quark unaided. We demonstrate that a flavor-universal extension of the color interactions combined with an extended hypercharge sector that singles out the third generation can provide the necessary assistance. We discuss current experimental constraints and suggest how collider experiments can search for the predicted new heavy gauge bosons.
Within the extended BLMSSM, the exotic Higgs superfields $(Φ_{NL},φ_{NL})$ are added to make the exotic leptons heavy, and the superfields ($Y$,$Y^\prime$) are also introduced to make exotic leptons unstable. This new model is named as the EBLMSSM. We study some charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) processes in detail in the EBLMSSM, including $l_j\rightarrow l_i γ$, muon conversion to electron in nuclei, the $τ$ decays and $h^0\rightarrow l_i l_j$. Being different from BLMSSM, some particles are redefined in this new model, such as slepton, sneutrino, exotic lepton (neutrino), exotic slepto…
We show that there is a minimal discrete symmetry which leads to the extended flavour democracy scenario constraining the Dirac neutrino, the charged lepton and the Majorana neutrino mass term ($M_R$) to be all proportional to the democratic matrix, with all elements equal. In particular, this discreet symmetry forbids other large contributions to $M_R$, such as a term proportional to the unit matrix, which would normally be allowed by a $S_{3L}\times S_{3R}$ permutation symmetry. This feature is crucial in order to obtain large leptonic mixing, without violating 't Hooft's, naturalness princi…
We present an effective model, which is an extension of the usual linear sigma model, that contains a low energy multiplet for every hadronic particle type. These multiplets are a scalar nonet, a pseudoscalar nonet, a vector nonet, an axialvector nonet, a baryon octet and a baryon decuplet. Tree level baryon masses and possible two body decuplet decays are calculated. The baryon masses are generated through spontaneous symmetry breaking. The calculated quantities are used to determine the model parameters through a multiparametric minimalization process, which compares the calculated physical …
The combination of $ν_μ$-$ν_τ$ exchange together with CP conjugation in the neutrino sector (known as $\mathrm{CP}^{μτ}$ symmetry or $μτ$-reflection) is known to predict the viable pattern: $θ_{23}=45^\circ$, maximal Dirac CP phase and trivial Majorana phases. We implement such a CP symmetry as a new CP symmetry in theories with $A_4$ flavor. The implementation in a complete renormalizable model leads to a new form for the neutrino mass matrix that leads to further predictions: normal hierarchical spectrum with lightest mass and $m_{ββ}$ ($0νββ$) of only few meV, and either $ν_1$ or $ν_2$ has …
Custodial Naturalness is a new symmetry-based idea to explain the large separation between the electroweak (EW) scale and ultraviolet completions of the Standard Model (SM). Classical scale invariance is combined with an enhanced scalar-sector custodial symmetry and both are spontaneously broken by dimensional transmutation at a new intermediate scale. The SM-like Higgs boson is an elementary pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone-Boson (pNGB) of the extended custodial symmetry, which naturally explains the suppression of the EW scale without a little hierarchy problem. We explain details of the general mecha…
We analyze constraints on a class of extended technicolor (ETC) models from neutral flavor-changing processes induced by (dimension-six) four-fermion operators. The ETC gauge group is taken to commute with the standard-model gauge group. The models in the class are distinguished by how the left- and right-handed $(L,R)$ components of the quarks and charged leptons transform under the ETC group. We consider $K^{0} - \bar K^0$ and other pseudoscalar meson mixings, and conclude that they are adequately suppressed if the $L$ and $R$ components of the relevant quarks are assigned to the same (funda…
We present a mechanism that addresses the electroweak, the strong CP, and the flavor hierarchies of the Standard Model (including neutrino masses) in a unified way. The naturalness of the electroweak scale is solved together with the strong CP problem by the Nelson-Barr relaxion: the relaxion field is identified with the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of an abelian symmetry with no QCD anomaly. The Nelson-Barr sector generates the "rolling" potential and the relaxion vacuum expectation value at the stopping point is mapped to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase. An abelian symmetry accounts for …
