Let $R$ be a ring with unity. The graph $Γ(R)$ is a graph with vertices as elements of $R$, where two distinct vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if and only if $Ra+Rb=R$. Let $Γ_2(R)$ is the subgraph of $Γ(R)$ induced by the non-unit elements. H.R. Maimani et al. [H.R. Maimani et al., Comaximal graph of commutative rings, J. Algebra $319$ $(2008)$ $1801$-$1808$] proved that: ``If $R$ is a commutative ring with unity and the graph $Γ_2(R)\backslash J(R)$ is $n$-partite, then the number of maximal ideals of $R$ is at most $n$." The proof of this result is not correct. In this paper we present a correct proof for this result. Also we generalize some results given in the aforementioned paper for the non-commutative rings.
In this article, we show that for a partial skew group ring R*G, where R is a commutative ring, each non-zero ideal of R*G intersects R non-trivially if and only if R is a maximal commutative subring of R*G. As a consequence, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for simplicity; the partial skew group ring R*G is simple if and only if R is a G-simple and maximal commutative subring of R*G. We thereby generalize our previous results for skew group rings, to partial skew group rings which are not necessarily unital.
It is shown that a local ring R of bounded module type is an almost maximal valuation ring if there exists a non-maximal prime ideal J such that R/J is a maximal valuation domain.
The aim of this article is to describe necessary and sufficient conditions for simplicity of Ore extension rings, with an emphasis on differential polynomial rings. We show that a differential polynomial ring, R[x;id,δ], is simple if and only if its center is a field and R is δ-simple. When R is commutative we note that the centralizer of R in R[x;σ,δ] is a maximal commutative subring containing R and, in the case when σ=id, we show that it intersects every non-zero ideal of R[x;id,δ] non-trivially. Using this we show that if R is δ-simple and maximal commutative in R[x;id,δ], then R[x;id,δ] i…
We study universal mapping properties of $(σ,τ)$-derivations over commutative algebras and characterize them over rings of integers of quadratic number fields. As a result we provide extension of some well known results on UFD's of such derivations to certain non-UFD's as well.
We investigate the structure of maximal commutative subalgebras of the finite dimensional Grassmann algebra over a field of characteristic different from two.
In this article we revisit a problem regarding Bezout domains, namely, whether every Bezout domain is an elementary divisor domain. We prove that a Bezout domain in which every maximal ideal is principal is an elementary divisor ring
In this paper we prove that the subalgebras of cocommutative elements in the quantized coordinate rings of $M_{n}$, $GL_{n}$ and $SL_{n}$ are the centralizers of the trace $x_{1,1}+\dots+x_{n,n}$ in each algebra, for $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$ being not a root of unity. In particular, it is not only a commutative subalgebra as it was known before, but it is a maximal one.
The maximal dimension of a commutative subalgebra of the Grassmann algebra is determined. It is shown that for any commutative subalgebra there exists a commutative subalgebra which is spanned by monomials and has the same dimension. It follows that the maximal dimension of a commutative subalgebra can be expressed in terms of the maximal size of an intersecting system of subsets of odd size in a finite set.
Let $n=4k+1$ and $k\geq 4$. We show that there exists maximal commutative subalgebras (with respect to inclusion) of dimension less that $3\cdot 2^{n-2}$.
In this paper we show that each non-zero ideal of a twisted generalized Weyl algebra (TGWA) $A$ intersects the centralizer of the distinguished subalgebra $R$ in $A$ non-trivially. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the centralizer of $R$ in $A$ to be commutative, and give examples of TGWAs associated to symmetric Cartan matrices satisfying this condition. By imposing a certain finiteness condition on $R$ (weaker than Noetherianity) we are able to make an Ore localization which turns out to be useful when investigating simplicity of the TGWA. Under this mild assumption we…
Non-commutative Henselian rings are defined and it is shown that a local ring which is complete and separated in the topology defined by its maximal ideal is Henselian provided that it is almost commutative.
There is a relatively well-known description of the algebra of (higher order) left differential operators on commutative algebras. This note gives a construction of similar flavor for algebras of differential operators on not necessarily commutative algebras.
In this paper we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for strongly group graded rings to be simple. For a strongly group graded ring $R = \bigoplus_{g\in G} R_g$ the grading group $G$ acts, in a natural way, as automorphisms of the commutant of the neutral component subring $R_e$ in $R$ and of the center of $R_e$. We show that if $R$ is a strongly $G$-graded ring where $R_e$ is maximal commutative in $R$, then $R$ is a simple ring if and only if $R_e$ is $G$-simple (i.e. there are no nontrivial $G$-invariant ideals). We also show that if $R_e$ is commutative (not necessarily maximal com…
In 1969 Höchster proved that for every quasi-compact T1-space $X$ we can find a commutative ring $R$ such that $X$ is homeomorphic to the maximal spectrum $\mathrm{Specm}(R)$ of $R$. This result implies the existence of a commutative ring $R$ that admits a non-Hausdorff and totally disconnected maximal spectrum $\mathrm{Specm}(R)$. However, there has not been an example of such a commutative ring yet. The aim of this paper is to investigate rings that almost admit a non-Hausdorff and totally disconnected maximal spectrum.
Let $D$ be a non-commutative division ring, $G$ a subnormal subgroup of ${\mathrm GL}_n(D)$. In this note we show that if $G$ contains a non-abelian solvable maximal subgroup, then $n=1$ and $D$ is a cyclic algebra of prime degree over $F$.
The literature about strongly clean matrices over commutative rings is quite extensive. The sharpest results are about matrices over commutative local rings, for example those by Borooah, Diesl and Dorsey. The purpose of this note is to show that, using Pierce sheaf techniques, many of the known results about matrices over commutative local rings can be extended to those over commutative clean rings in general.
For any unital commutative ring $R$ and for any graph $E$, we identify the commutative core of the Leavitt path algebra of $E$ with coefficients in $R$, which is a maximal commutative subalgebra of the Leavitt path algebra. Furthermore, we are able to characterize injectivity of representations which gives a generalization of the Cuntz-Krieger uniqueness theorem.
In this note we study dual coalgebras of algebras over arbitrary (noetherian) commutative rings. We present and study a generalized notion of coreflexive comodules and use the results obtained for them to characterize the so called coreflexive coalgebras. Our approach in this note is an algebraically topological one.
This in an introduction to the theory of non-commutative distributions of non-commuting operators or random matrices. Starting from the basic problem to find a good approach to the meaning of "non-commutative distribution" we will, in particular, cover: free analysis, which is a version of complex analysis for several non-commuting variables; the operator-valued version of free probability theory (combinatorial but also analytic aspects); the linearization trick to reduce non-linear scalar problems to linear operator-valued problems; the combination of operator-valued convolution and lineariza…
Several topologies can be defined on the prime, the maximal and the minimal prime spectra of a commutative ring; among them, we mention the Zariski topology, the patch topology and the flat topology. By using these topologies, Tarizadeh and Aghajani obtained recently new characterizations of various classes of rings: Gelfand rings, clean rings, absolutely flat rings, $mp$ - rings, etc. The aim of this paper is to generalize some of their results to quantales, structures that constitute a good abstractization for lattices of ideals, filters and congruences. We shall study the flat and the patch …
Let R0 be a commutative associative ring (not necessarily unital), G a group and alpha a partial action by ideals that contain local units. We show that R0 is maximal commutative in the partial skew group ring R0*G if and only if R0 has the ideal intersection property in R0*G. From this we derive a criterion for simplicity of R0*G in terms of maximal commutativity and $G-$simplicity of R0 and apply this to two examples, namely to partial actions by clopen subsets of a compact set and to give a new proof of the simplicity criterion for Leavitt path algebras. A new proof of the Cuntz-Krieger uni…
