We obtain general trace formulae in the case of perturbation of self-adjoint operators by self-adjoint operators of class $\bS_m$, where $m$ is a positive integer. In \cite{PSS} a trace formula for operator Taylor polynomials was obtained. This formula includes the Livshits--Krein trace formula in the case $m=1$ and the Koplienko trace formula in the case $m=2$. We establish most general trace formulae in the case of perturbation of Schatten--von Neumann class $\bS_m$. We also improve the trace formula obtained in \cite{PSS} for operator Taylor polynomials and prove it for arbitrary functions in he Besov space $B_{\be1}^m(\R)$.
We consider several other special cases of our general trace formulae. In particular, we establish a trace formula for $m$th order operator differences.
Koplienko [Ko] found a trace formula for perturbations of self-adjoint operators by operators of Hilbert Schmidt class $\bS_2$. A similar formula in the case of unitary operators was obtained by Neidhardt [N]. In this paper we improve their results and obtain sharp conditions under which the Koplienko--Neidhardt trace formulae hold.
In this note self-adjoint realizations of second order elliptic differential expressions with non-local Robin boundary conditions on a domain $Ω\subset\dR^n$ with smooth compact boundary are studied. A Schatten--von Neumann type estimate for the singular values of the difference of the $m$th powers of the resolvents of two Robin realizations is obtained, and for $m>\tfrac{n}{2}-1$ it is shown that the resolvent power difference is a trace class operator. The estimates are slightly stronger than the classical singular value estimates by M. Sh. Birman where one of the Robin realizations is repla…
Let $H, V$ be self-adjoint operators such that $V$ belongs to the weak trace class ideal. We prove higher order perturbation formula $$τ\big(f(H+V)-\sum_{j=0}^{n-1}\frac{1}{j!}\frac{d^j}{dt^j} f(H+tV)\big|_{t=0}\big)=\int_{\mathbb{R}} f^{(n)}(t)\,dm_n(t),$$ where $τ$ is a trace on the weak trace class ideal and $m_n$ is a finite measure that is not necessarily absolutely continuous. This result extends the first and second order perturbation formulas of Dykema and Shripka, who generalised the Krein and Koplienko trace formulas to the weak trace class ideal. We also establish the perturbation f…
We prove the existence of a complex valued $C^2$-function on the unit circle, a unitary operator U and a self-adjoint operator Z in the Hilbert-Schmidt class $S^2$, such that the perturbated operator $$ f(e^{iZ}U)-f(U) -\frac{d}{dt}\bigl(f(e^{itZ}U)\bigr)_{\vert t=0} $$ does not belong to the space $S^1$ of trace class operators. This resolves a problem of Peller concerning the validity of the Koplienko-Neidhardt trace formula for unitaries.
A formula for the norm of a bilinear Schur multiplier acting from the Cartesian product $\mathcal S^2\times \mathcal S^2$ of two copies of the Hilbert-Schmidt classes into the trace class $\mathcal S^1$ is established in terms of linear Schur multipliers acting on the space $\mathcal S^\infty$ of all compact operators. Using this formula, we resolve Peller's problem on Koplienko-Neidhardt trace formulae. Namely, we prove that there exist a twice continuously differentiable function $f$ with a bounded second derivative, a self-adjoint (unbounded) operator $A$ and a self-adjoint operator $B\in \…
A Feynman formula is a representation of a solution of an initial (or initial-boundary) value problem for an evolution equation (or, equivalently, a representation of the semigroup resolving the problem) by a limit of $n$-fold iterated integrals of some elementary functions as $n\to\infty$. In this note we obtain some Feynman formulae for a class of semigroups associated with Feller processes. Finite dimensional integrals in the Feynman formulae give approximations for functional integrals in some Feynman--Kac formulae corresponding to the underlying processes. Hence, these Feynman formulae gi…
In this note we present the metric approximation property for weighted mixed-norm $L_w^{(p_1,\dots ,p_n)}$ and variable exponent Lebesgue type spaces. As a consequence, this also implies the same property for modulation and Wiener-Amalgam spaces. We then characterise nuclear operators on such spaces and state the corresponding Grothendieck-Lidskii trace formulae. We apply the obtained results to derive criteria for nuclearity and trace formulae for periodic operators on $\mathbb R^n$ and functions of the harmonic oscillator in terms of the global symbol.
For a domain Ωin \mathbb{C} and an operator T in \mathcal{B}_n(Ω), Cowen and Douglas construct a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle E_T over Ωcorresponding to T. The Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle E_T is obtained as a pull-back of the tautological bundle S(n,\mathcal{H}) defined over \mathcal{G}r(n,\mathcal{H}) by a nondegenerate holomorphic map z\mapsto {\rm{ker}}(T-z) for z\inΩ. To find the answer to the converse, Cowen and Douglas studied the jet bundle in their foundational paper. The computations in this paper for the curvature of the jet bundle are somewhat difficult to comprehend.…
In this paper we prove the bounded approximation property for variable exponent Lebesgue spaces, study the concept of nuclearity on such spaces and apply it to trace formulae such as the Grothendieck-Lidskii formula. We apply the obtained results to derive criteria for nuclearity and trace formulae for periodic operators on $\mathbb R^n$ in terms of global symbols.
The paper is devoted to a linear dynamics for non-autonomous perturbation of the Gibbs semigroup on a separable Hilbert space. It is shown that evolution family {U(t, s)} 0$\le$s$\le$t solving the non-autonomous Cauchy problem can be approximated in the trace-norm topology by product formulae. The rate of convergence of product formulae approximants {U n (t, s)} {0$\le$s$\le$t,n$\ge$1} to the solution operator {U(t, s)} {0$\le$s$\le$t} is also established.
In this paper we develop the method of double operator integrals to prove trace formulae for functions of contractions, dissipative operators, unitary operators and self-adjoint operators. To establish the absolute continuity of spectral shift, we use the Sz.-Nagy theorem on the absolute continuity of the spectrum of the minimal unitary dilation of a completely nonunitary contraction. We also give a construction of an intermediate contraction for a pair of contractions with trace class difference.
We discuss applications of the M. G. Kre\uın theory of the spectral shift function to the multi-dimensional Schrödinger operator as well as specific properties of this function, for example, its high-energy asymptotics. Trace identities for the Schrödinger operator are derived.
A version of Connes trace formula allows to associate a measure on the essential spectrum of a Schrödinger operator with bounded potential. In solid state physics there is another celebrated measure associated with such operators --- the density of states. In this paper we demonstrate that these two measures coincide. We show how this equality can be used to give explicit formulae for the density of states in some circumstances.
We prove perturbation results for traces on normed ideals in semifinite von Neumann algebra factors. This includes the case of Dixmier traces. In particular, we establish existence of spectral shift measures with initial operators being dissipative or bounded, and show that these measures can have singular components in the case of Dixmier traces. We also establish a linearization formula for a Dixmier trace applied to perturbed operator functions, a result that does not typically hold for normal traces.
For an elliptic selfadjoint operator $P =-[u^{μν}\partial_μ\partial_ν+v^ν\partial_ν+w]$ acting on a fiber bundle over a Riemannian manifold, where $u,v^μ,w$ are $N\times N$-matrices, we develop a method to compute the heat-trace coefficients $a_r$ which allows to get them by a pure computational machinery. It is exemplified in dimension 4 by the value of $a_1$ written both in terms of $u,v^μ,w$ or diffeomorphic and gauge invariants. We also answer to the question: when is it possible to get explicit formulae for $a_r$?
In this work we establish the metric approximation property for Besov spaces defined on arbitrary compact Lie groups. As a consequence of this fact, we investigate trace formulae for nuclear Fourier multipliers on Besov spaces. Finally, we study the r-nuclearity, the Grothendieck-Lidskii formula and the (nuclear) trace of pseudo-differential operators in generalized Hörmander classes acting on periodic Besov spaces. We will restrict our attention to pseudo-differential operators with symbols of limited regularity.
The wark is a contribution to the functional calculus constructed by of the author and A. A. Atvinovskii of closed operators on Banach spaces. The calculus is based on Markov and related functions as symbols. Estimates of bounded perturbations of operator functions with respect to general operator ideal norms, operator Lipschitzness, moment inequality, Freshet operator differentiability, and Livshitz-Krein trace formulae have been considered.
We give a simple definition of a spectral shift function for pairs of nonpositive operators on Banach spaces and prove trace formulas of Lifshitz-Kre\uın type for a perturbation of an operator monotonic (negative complete Bernstein) function of negative and nonpositive operators on Banach spaces induced by nuclear perturbation of an operator argument. The Lipschitzness of such functions is also investigated. The results may be regarded as a contribution to a perturbation theory for Hirsch functional calculus.
In this paper, we investigate the nuclear trace of vector-valued Fourier multipliers on the torus and its applications to the index theory of periodic pseudo-differential operators. First, we characterise the nuclearity of pseudo-differential operators acting on Bochner integrable functions. In this regards, we consider the periodic and the discrete cases. We go on to address the problem of finding sharp sufficient conditions for the nuclearity of vector-valued Fourier multipliers on the torus. We end our investigation with two index formulae. First, we express the index of a vector-valued Fou…
Given a compact Lie group $G$, in this paper we give symbolic criteria for operators to be nuclear and r-nuclear on Lp-spaces, with applications to distribution of eigenvalues and trace formulae. Since criteria in terms of kernels are often not effective in view of Carleman's example, in this paper we adopt the symbolic point of view. The criteria here are given in terms of the concept of matrix symbols defined on the non-commutative analogue of the phase space $G\times\hat{G}$, where $\hat{G}$ is the unitary dual of $G$.
