The present paper concludes our investigation on the QCD equation of state with 2+1 staggered flavors and one-link stout improvement. We extend our previous study [JHEP 0601:089 (2006)] by choosing even finer lattices. Lattices with $N_t=6,8$ and 10 are used, and the continuum limit is approached by checking the results at $N_t=12$. A Symanzik improved gauge and a stout-link improved staggered fermion action is utilized. We use physical quark masses, that is, for the lightest staggered pions and kaons we fix the $m_π/f_K$ and $m_K/f_K$ ratios to their experimental values. The pressure, the interaction measure, the energy and entropy density and the speed of sound are presented as functions of the temperature in the range $100 ...1000 \textmd{MeV}$. We give estimates for the pion mass dependence and for the contribution of the charm quark. We compare our data to the equation of state obtained by the "hotQCD" collaboration.
We compute masses of bottomonium and charmonium bound states using a Schrödinger equation with a heavy quark-antiquark potential including $1/m$ and $1/m^2$ corrections previously derived in potential Non-Relativistic QCD and computed with lattice QCD. This is a preparatory step for a future project, where we plan to take into account similar corrections to study quarkonium resonances and tetraquarks above the lowest meson-meson thresholds.
The current status of determinations of the QCD running quark masses is reviewed. Emphasis is on recent progress on analytical precision determinations based on finite energy QCD sum rules. A critical discussion of the merits of this approach over other alternative QCD sum rules is provided. Systematic uncertainties from both the hadronic and the QCD sector have been recently identified and dealt with successfully, thus leading to values of the quark masses with unprecedented accuracy. Results currently rival in precision with lattice QCD determinations.
Chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra is expected but it remains to be confirmed both in lattice QCD computations and in experiments. Recently, a theorem was derived, relating chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra to the spontaneous generation of the dynamical quark mass in QCD. We refine the theorem in the case of static-light mesons. Utilizing chiral quark model computations and lattice QCD results for the spectrum of mesons composed by a static antiquark and a light quark, we explore chiral symmetry restoration in the spectrum and the quark running mass m(k…
We introduce the strange quark mass to the Sakai-Sugimoto model of holographic QCD. We compute mass shifts in the spectra of three-flavor baryons at the leading order in perturbation in quark masses. Comparison with experimental data shows an agreement only qualitatively.
We compute the two-loop contribution to the QCD pressure in a strong magnetic background, for arbitrary quark masses. We show that, for very large fields, the chiral limit is trivial.
I review recent progress in lattice QCD at non-zero temperature whith emphasis on the calculations of equation of state and the properties of heavy quar anti-quark pairs at high temperatures. I also briefly discuss the deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoring aspects of the QCD transition at finite temperature
We discuss spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and quark bilinear condensate in large $N_c$ QCD. It has been known that the existence of $η'$ meson is implied in large $N_c$ QCD as pointed out by Witten and Veneziano. First, we show that the existence of $η'$ and Ward-Takahashi identities imply the existence of the Nambu-Goldstone bosons from chiral symmetry breaking $SU(N_f)_L \times SU(N_f)_R \to SU(N_f)_V$. Second, we show that a QCD inequality implies a nonzero lower bound on the quark bilinear condensate.
We draw the three-flavor phase diagram as a function of light- and strange-quark masses for both zero and imaginary quark-number chemical potential, using the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with an effective four-quark vertex depending on the Polyakov loop. The model prediction is qualitatively consistent with 2+1 flavor lattice QCD prediction at zero chemical potential and with degenerate three-flavor lattice QCD prediction at imaginary chemical potential.
We study the phase structure of lattice QCD with heavy quarks at finite temperature and density by a histogram method. We determine the location of the critical point at which the first-order deconfining transition in the heavy-quark limit turns into a crossover at intermediate quark masses through a change of the shape of the histogram under variation of coupling parameters. We estimate the effect of the complex phase factor which causes the sign problem at finite density, and show that, in heavy-quark QCD, the effect is small around the critical point. We determine the critical surface in 2+…
I review how the determination of quark masses from lattice QCD can be used to study textures in quark mass matrices. This type of theory relates quark masses to CKM matrix elements. I demonstrate how the recent precision results from the HPQCD and MILC collaborations for quark masses can be used to test some of these ideas.
In this talk I review several topics concerning the determination of quark masses by means of lattice QCD simulations, with particular focus on recently introduced techniques of non-perturbative renormalisation, the determination of heavy quark masses, and the proper quantification of the source of isospin breaking effects in the light quark sector.
