We point out that the type III seesaw mechanism introducing fermion triplets predicts peculiar Higgs boson signatures of displaced vertices with two b jets and one or two charged particles which can be cleanly identified. In a supersymmetric theory, the scalar partner of the fermion triplet contains a neutral dark matter candidate which is almost degenerate with its charged components. A Higgs boson can be produced together with such a dark matter triplet in the cascade decay chain of a strongly produced squark or gluino. When the next lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) is bino/wino-like, there appears a Higgs boson associated with two charged tracks of a charged lepton and a heavy charged scalar at a displacement larger than about 1 mm. The corresponding production cross-section is about 0.5 fb for the squark/gluino mass of 1 TeV. In the case of the stau NLSP, it decays mainly to a Higgs boson and a heavy charged scalar whose decay length is larger than 0.1 mm for the stau NLSP mixing with the left-handed stau smaller than 0.3. As this process can have a large cascade production $\sim 2$ pb for the squark/gluino mass $\sim 1$ TeV, one may be able to probe it at the early stage of the LHC experiment.
The observation of Higgs decays into heavy neutrinos would be strong evidence for new physics associated to neutrino masses. In this work we propose a search for such decays within the Type I seesaw model in the few-GeV mass range via displaced vertices. Using 300 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, at 13 TeV, we explore the region of parameter space where such decays are measurable. We show that, after imposing pseudorapidity cuts, there still exists a region where the number of events is larger than $\mathcal{O}(10)$. We also find that conventional triggers can greatly limit the sensitivity …
We investigate the pair production of right-handed neutrinos from the decay of a light $B-L$ scalar in the $U(1)_{B-L}$ model. The $B-L$ scalar mixes to the SM Higgs, and the physical scalar is required to be lighter than the observed Higgs. The produced right-handed neutrinos are predicted to be long-lived according to the type-I seesaw mechanism, and yield potentially distinct signatures such as displaced vertex and time-delayed leptons at the CMS/ATLAS/LHCb, as well as signatures at the far detectors including the CODEX-b, FACET, FASER, MoEDAL-MAPP and MATHUSLA. We analyze the sensitivity r…
The type II seesaw mechanism is an attractive way to generate the observed light neutrino masses. It postulates a SU(2)$_\mathrm{L}$-triplet scalar field, which develops an induced vacuum expectation value after electroweak symmetry breaking, giving masses to the neutrinos via its couplings to the lepton SU(2)$_\mathrm{L}$-doublets. When the components of the triplet field have masses around the electroweak scale, the model features a rich phenomenology. We discuss the current allowed parameter space of the minimal low scale type II seesaw model, taking into account all relevant constraints, i…
In this article, we explore the possibility of displaced Higgs production from the decays of the heavy fermions in the Type-III seesaw extension of the Standard Model at the LHC/FCC and the muon collider. The displaced heavy fermions and the Higgs boson can be traced back by measuring the displaced charged tracks of the charged leptons along with the $b$-jets. A very small Yukawa coupling can lead to two successive displaced decays which makes the phenomenology even more interesting. The prospects of the transverse and longitudinal displaced decay lengths are extensively studied in the context…
In a class of Type-II seesaw dominated $SO(10)$ models proposed recently with heavy neutrinos, extra $Z'$ boson, and resonant leptogenesis, at first we show that the lightest first generation sterile neutrino that mediates dominant contributions to neutrinoless double beta decay also generates the displaced vertex leading to verifiable like-sign di-electron as well as di-muon production events outside the LHC detectors having suppressed standard model back-ground and missing energy. Resonant leptogenesis in this case is implemented by a pair of quasi-degenerate sterile neutrinos of the second …
We investigate a prospect of probing the type-III seesaw neutrino mass generation mechanism at various collider experiments by searching for a disappearing track and a displaced vertex signature originating from the decay of $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermion ($Σ$). Since $Σ$ is primarily produced at colliders through the electroweak gauge interactions, its production rate is uniquely determined by its mass. We find that a $Σ$ particle with a mass of a few hundred GeV produces a disappearing track signature from the decay of its charged component, which can be searched at the HL-LHC. Furthermore, we sh…
A certain class of new physics models includes long-lived particles which are singlet under the Standard Model (SM) gauge group.A displaced vertex is a spectacular signature to probe such particles productions at the high energy colliders, with a negligible SM background. In the context of the minimal gauged $B-L$ extended SM, we consider a pair creation of Majorana right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) at the high energy colliders through the production of the SM and the $B-L$ Higgs bosons and their subsequent decays into RHNs. With parameters reproducing the neutrino oscillation data, we show that t…
The type-II seesaw mechanism with an isospin-triplet scalar $Δ_L$ provides one of the most compelling explanations for the observed smallness of neutrino masses. The triplet contains a doubly-charged component $H_L^{\pm\pm}$, which dominantly decays to either same-sign dileptons or to a pair of $W$ bosons, depending on the size of the triplet vacuum expectation value. However, there exists a range of Yukawa couplings $f_L$ of the triplet to the charged leptons, wherein a relatively light $H_L^{\pm\pm}$ tends to be long-lived, giving rise to distinct displaced-vertex signatures at the high-ener…
It is shown that the type III seesaw mechanism proposed recently can have certain advantages over the conventional (or type I) seesaw mechanism for leptogenesis. In particular a resonant enhancement of leptogenesis via heavy quasi-Dirac right-handed neutrino pairs can occur without a special flavor form or "texture" of the mass matrices being assumed. Some of the requirements for neutrino mixing and leptogenesis are effectively decoupled.
Extending the Standard Model with right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) is well motivated by the observation of neutrino oscillations. In the type-I seesaw model, the RHNs interact with the SM particles via tiny mixings with the active neutrinos, which makes their discovery in the laboratory, and in particular at collider experiments in general challenging. In this work we instead consider an extension of the type-I seesaw model with the addition of a leptoquark (LQ), and employ a non-minimal production mechanism of the RHN via LQ decay, which is unsuppressed by neutrino mixing. We focus on relatively…
In type III seesaw utilized to explain the observed solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations the Standard Model (SM) particle spectrum is extended by introducing three SU(2)_L triplet fermion fields. This can have important implications for the SM Higgs boson mass (M_H) bounds based on vacuum stability and perturbativity arguments. We compute the appropriate renormalization group equations for type III seesaw, and then proceed to identify regions of the parameter space such that the SM Higgs boson mass window is enlarged to 125 GeV < M_H < 174 GeV, with the type III seesaw scale close to Te…
We show that the type III seesaw mechanism opens up a promising possibility of searching the Higgs boson in the $b \bar b$ channel through the Higgs production associated with a charged lepton coming from the decay of the triplet seesaw particle. In particular we look for the $2b$ signals with trileptons or same-sign dileptons to construct the Higgs and the triplet fermion mass and calculate the reach with the integrated luminosity of 10 fb$^{-1}$ at the 14 TeV LHC.
We consider a $U(1)'$ extended supersymmetric model with a right-handed neutrino superfield which can generate light neutrino mass by Type I seesaw mechanism. The lighter superpartner of the right-handed neutrino could be the scalar dark matter. These right-handed sneutrinos can come from the decay of $\tilde{Z'}$, superpartner of the extra gauge boson $Z'$. Left-right handed sneutrino mixings affect their decays further, giving rise to displaced "lepton flavour violating" signatures. A wino-like chargino NLSP (next to lightest supersymmetric particle) creates even more interesting decay topol…
We propose a new supersymmetric left right model with Higgs doublets carrying odd B-L charge, higgs bidoublet and heavy Higgs triplets with zero B-L charge and a set of sterile neutrinos which are singlet under the gauge group. We show that spontaneous parity violation can be achieved naturally in this model and the neutrino masses arise from the so called type III seesaw mechanism. We also discuss the possible phenomenology in the context of neutrino masses and dark matter.
We consider a supersymmetric type III seesaw, where the additional heavy states are embedded into complete SU(5) representations to preserve gauge coupling unification. Complying with phenomenological and experimental constraints strongly tightens the viable parameter space of the model. In particular, one expects very characteristic signals of lepton flavour violation both at low-energies and at the LHC, which offer the possibility of falsifying the model.
We present a type-III version of inverse seesaw or, equivalently an inverse version of type-III seesaw. Naturally small neutrino masses arise at low-scale from the exchange of neutral fermions transforming as hyperchargeless SU(2) triplets. In order to implement tri-bimaximal lepton mixing we supplement the minimal SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) gauge symmetry with an A4-based flavor symmetry. Our scenario induces lepton flavour violating (LFV) three body decays that can proceed at the tree level, while radiative li to lj gamma decays and mu-e conversion in nuclei are also expected to be sizeable. LFV decay…
The simplest type III seesaw model as originally proposed introduces one lepton triplet. It thus contains four active neutrinos, two massive and two massless at tree level. We determine the radiative masses that the latter receive first at two loops. The masses are generally so tiny that they are definitely excluded by the oscillation data, if the heavy leptons are not very heavy, say, within the reach of LHC. To accommodate the data on masses, the seesaw scale must be as large as the scale of grand unification. This indicates that the most economical type III model would entail no new physics…
We study the decay rates of the $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to \ell γ$ transitions in the framework of the type III seesaw model, where fermionic triplets are exchanged to generate neutrino masses. We show that the observation of one of those decays in planned experiments would contradict bounds arising from present experimental limits on the $μ\to eee$ and $τ\to 3 l$ decay rates, and therefore imply that there exist other sources of lepton flavour violation than those associated to triplet of fermions.
The scotogenic type I and type III seesaw models are good candidates to explain the existence of neutrino masses and dark matter simultaneously. However, since triplet fermions have SU(2) gauge interaction, they cannot be out of equilibrium before the electroweak symmetry breaking. Thus, leptogenesis seems to be difficult within a framework of the pure type III seesaw model. Some extension seems to be required to solve this fault. A model extended by introducing a singlet fermion could be such a simple example. If the singlet fermion is in the thermal equilibrium even for its extremely small n…
Supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) has two sources of rapid proton decay: (i) R-parity breaking terms and (ii) higher dimensional Planck induced B-violating terms; its extensions to include neutrino masses via the type I seesaw mechanism need not have the first of these problems due to the existence of B-L as a gauge symmetry but for sure always have the second one. If instead, neutrino masses are explained in a type III seesaw extension of the standard model, an anomaly free gauge symmetry different from B-L is known to exist. In this note, it is shown that a realistic supersymmetric versio…
In the presence of a low scale seesaw of type I + III, flavor violating effects in the leptonic sector are expected. Their presence in the charged sector is due to the mixing of the fermionic vector-like weak triplets with the chiral doublets, which cause non-universality of the tree-level Z coupling. We investigate the bounds on the Yukawa couplings which are responsible for the mixing and present the results for two minimal cases, a fermionic triplet with a singlet or two fermionic triplets. Different channels for these processes are considered and their current and future potential to probe…
We make an attempt to study neutrino phenomenology in the framework of type-III seesaw by considering $A_4$ modular symmetry in the super-symmetric context. In addition, we have included a local $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry which eventually helps us to avoid certain unwanted terms in the superpotential. Hitherto, the seesaw being type-III, it involves three fermion triplet superfields $Σ_R$, along with which, we have included a singlet weighton field $(ρ)$. In here, modular symmetry plays a crucial role by avoiding the usage of excess flavon (weighton) fields. Also, the Yukawa couplings acquire modul…
In the framework of seesaw neutrino masses from heavy fermion triplets $(Σ^+,Σ^0,Σ^-)$, the addition of a light fermion singlet $N$ and a heavy scalar triplet $(ρ^+,ρ^0,ρ^-)$ has some important consequences. The new particles are assumed to be odd under a new $Z_2$ symmetry which is only broken softly, both explicitly and spontaneously. With $N-Σ^0$ mixing, freeze-in long-lived dark matter through Higgs decay becomes possible. At the same time, the $W$ mass is shifted slightly upward, as suggested by a recent precision measurement.
Motivated by the recently reported measurement of the $W$ boson mass $M_W = 80.4335 \pm 0.0094$ GeV by the CDF collaboration, we propose a type III seesaw extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) which also includes an R-parity violating term. Without taking potential SUSY radiative corrections into account, we show that the CDF measurement of $M_W$ and the LEP measurement of the $ρ$ parameter can be simultaneously accommodated at the $2 σ$ level. A long-lived gravitino in a few GeV mass range is a unique viable dark matter candidate in this framework.
Discrete symmetries being preferred to explain the neutrino phenomenology, we chose the simplest $S_3$ group and explore the implication of its modular form on neutrino masses and mixing. Non-trivial transformations of Yukawa couplings under this symmetry, make the model phenomenologically interesting by reducing the requirement of multiple scalar fields. This symmetry imposes a specific flavor structure to the neutrino mass matrix within the framework of less frequented type III seesaw mechanism and helps to explore the neutrino mixing consistent with the current observation. Apart, we also e…
The type III seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation usually makes use of at least two $Y = 0$, $SU(2)_L$ lepton triplets. We augment such a model with a third triplet and a sterile neutrino, both of which are odd under a conserved $\Z_2$ symmetry. With all new physics confined to the $\Z_2$-odd sector, whose low energy manifestation is in some higher-dimensional operators, a fermionic dark matter candidate is found to emerge. We identify the region of the parameter space of the scenario, which is consistent with all constraints from relic density and direct searches, and allows a wide r…
We propose a $B-L$ gauged extension of the Standard Model where light neutrino masses arise from type III seesaw mechanism. Unlike the minimal $B-L$ model with three right handed neutrinos having unit lepton number each, the model with three fermion triplets is however not anomaly free. We show that the leftover triangle anomalies can be cancelled by two neutral Dirac fermions having fractional $B-L$ charges, both of which are naturally stable by virtue of a remnant $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}'_2$ symmetry, naturally leading to a two component dark matter scenario without any ad-hoc symmet…
We derive general bounds on the Type-III Seesaw parameters from a global fit to flavor and electroweak precision data. We explore and compare three Type-III Seesaw realizations: a general scenario, where an arbitrary number of heavy triplets is integrated out without any further assumption, and the more constrained cases in which only 3 or 2 (minimal scenario) additional heavy states are included. The latter assumption implies rather non-trivial correlations in the Yukawa flavor structure of the model so as to reproduce the neutrino masses and mixings as measured in neutrino oscillations exper…
Supersymmetric mass spectra within two variants of the seesaw mechanism, commonly known as type-II and type-III seesaw, are calculated using full 2-loop RGEs and minimal Supergravity boundary conditions. The type-II seesaw is realized using one pair of 15 and $\bar{15}$ superfields, while the type-III is realized using three copies of $24_M$ superfields. Using published, estimated errors on SUSY mass observables attainable at the LHC and in a combined LHC+ILC analysis, we calculate expected errors for the parameters of the models, most notably the seesaw scale. If SUSY particles are within the…
We study a supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism type-III. The model consists of the MSSM particle content plus three copies of 24 superfields. The fermionic part of the SU(2) triplet contained in the 24 is responsible for the type-III seesaw, which is used to explain the observed neutrino masses and mixings. Complete copies of 24 are introduced to maintain gauge coupling unification. These additional states change the beta functions of the gauge couplings above the seesaw scale. Using mSUGRA boundary conditions we calculate the resulting supersymmetric mass spectra at the electro-wea…
We reveal the origin of the CP violation required by the leptogenesis in variously popular seesaw models. Especially we clarify that in a pure type-I/III seesaw with two fermion singlets/triplets, a combined type-I+III seesaw with one fermion singlet and one fermion triplet, or a combined type-I/III+II seesaw with one fermion singlet/triplet and one Higgs triplet, the CP violation for the leptogenesis can exactly come from the imaginary part of the neutrino mass matrix in a special basis where the Yukawa couplings involving one fermion singlet/triplet are allowed to get rid of any CP phases. W…
We propose an extension of the SUSY SU(5) which predicts LHC testable type-III seesaw. The supersymmetric SU(5) GUT model is extended by adding a 24-plet matter superfield along with a pair of $10_H$-plet and $\bar{10}_H$-plet Higgs superfields. The 24-plet carries a triplet and a singlet fermion multiplet of SU(2)$_L$, which leads to type I+III seesaw. The additional $10_H$ (and $\bar{10}_H$) multiplets help in achieving gauge coupling unification while keeping the triplet fermion mass in the TeV range, making them accessible at LHC. We study the phenomenology of this model in detail. Large l…
We show that when the supersymmetric SU(5) model is extended to explain small neutrino masses by the type III seesaw mechanism, the new {\bf 24}-dimensional fields needed for the purpose can act as messengers for transmitting SUSY breaking from a hidden sector to the visible sector. For the three {\bf 24} case, the constraints of grand unification and suppressed lepton flavor violation restrict the seesaw scale in this case to be in the narrow range of $10^{12}-10^{13}$ GeV. The model predicts (i) a stable LSP gravitino with mass in the range of 1-10 MeV which can be a cold dark matter of the …
The signature of heavy fermionic triplets belonging to Type III seesaw at the International Linear Collider (ILC) is probed. Presence of charged fermionic triplets upto a mass of about $ 750$ GeV could be established through single production at a 1 TeV ILC with moderate luminosity of 300 fb$^{-1}$, assuming a fermion triplet-electron mixing of about 0.05. Unlike the case of LHC, the production process is highly sensitive to the mixing, making the process interesting. The single production of neutral triplet is found to be somewhat harder, considering the large SM background present. Pair prod…
We study the potential of testing the seesaw type I and III models at the LHeC, an e-p collision mode at the CERN collider. The e-p collision mode provides an excellent place to study lepton number violating process e^- p \to N j + X \to l^+ W^- j + X with W^- into hadron jets. Here N is a heavy Majorana neutrino and j is a hard hadron jet. With the electron energy E_e = 140 GeV and proton energy E_p = 7 TeV, we find that the cross section for the heavy neutrino N production can be as large as a few fb for the mass scale as high as 1 TeV, higher than what can be achieved by the p-p collision m…
We consider the extension of the Standard Model (SM) with an inert Higgs doublet that also contains two or three sets of $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermions with hypercharge zero and analyze the stability of electroweak vacuum for the scenarios. The model represents a Type-III inverse seesaw mechanism for neutrino mass generation with a Dark matter candidate. An effective potential approach calculation with two-loop beta function have been carried out in deciding the fate of the electroweak vacuum. Weak gauge coupling $g_2$ shows a different behaviour as compared to the Standard Model. The modified runn…
We study the minimal type-III seesaw model in which we extend the SM by adding two $SU(2)_L$ triplet fermions with zero hypercharge to explain the origin of the non-zero neutrino masses. We show that the naturalness conditions and the limits from lepton flavor violating decays provide very stringent bounds on the model parameters along with the constraints from the stability/metastability of the electroweak vacuum. We perform a detailed analysis of the model parameter space including all the constraints for both normal as well as inverted hierarchies of the light neutrino masses. We find that …
There has been a long-standing discrepancy between the experimental measurements of the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments and their predicted values in the Standard Model. This is particularly relevant in the case of the muon $g-2$, which has attracted a remarkable interest in the community after the long-awaited announcement of the first results by the Muon $g-2$ collaboration at Fermilab, which confirms a previous measurement by the E821 experiment at Brookhaven and enlarges the statistical significance of the discrepancy, now at $4.2 σ$. In this paper we consider an extension of …
We study a real scalar septuplet model which has a neutral component regarded as a dark matter particle candidate. The calculation of its thermal relic abundance without (with) the Sommerfeld effect suggests that the observed value corresponds to the mass of the dark matter particle $m_0 \gtrsim 8.8~(25)~\mathrm{TeV}$. Two extra quartic couplings $λ_2$ and $λ_3$ introduced in this model affect the running of other couplings, and hence the vacuum stability and the perturbativity up to the Planck scale. Therefore, the vacuum stability and the perturbativity conditions can constrain these couplin…
We present a model where neutrino masses are generated by a combination of spontaneous R-parity violation and Type III seesaw. In addition to the usual MSSM particle content, our model consists of one extra triplet matter chiral superfield containing heavy SU(2) triplet fermions and its superpartners. R-parity is broken spontaneously when the sneutrinos associated with the one heavy neutrino as well as the three light neutrinos get vacuum expectation values, giving rise to the mixed $8\times 8$ neutralino-neutrino mass matrix. We show that our model can comfortably explain all the existing neu…
We study the search potential of heavy triplet leptons in Type III Seesaw mechanism at future high-energy and high-luminosity muon colliders. The impact of up-to-date neutrino oscillation results is taken into account on neutrino parameters and the consequent decay patterns of heavy leptons in Type III Seesaw. The three heavy leptons in the Casas-Ibarra parametrization with diagonal unity matrix are distinguishable in their decay modes. We consider the pair production of charged triplet leptons $E^+ E^-$ through both $μ^+μ^-$ annihilation and vector boson fusion (VBF) processes. The leading-or…
A seesaw mechanism is presented in the neutrino sector and a new phase of CP violation ($α$) emerges in the interplay between the type-I and type-III seesaw schemes. This phase is inside the mixing term, and thus it cannot be rotated away in the Yukawa Lagrangian and, therefore, the heavy symmetry states cannot be in a diagonal weak basis in the broken phase. Some particular descriptions are analyzed suggesting that if the usual Yukawa couplings are suppressed, leptogenesis still occurs due to a new interacting vertex with fermion triplet $T$, fermion singlets $N$, and an ad-hoc scalar triplet…
The hypothetical dark photon portal connecting the visible and dark sectors of the Universe has received considerable attention in recent years, with a focus on CP-conserving kinetic mixing between the Standard Model (SM) hypercharge gauge boson and a new U(1)$_X$ gauge boson. In the effective field theory context, one may write down non-renormalizable CP-violating kinetic mixing interactions involving the $X$ and SU(2)$_L$ gauge bosons. We construct for the first time a renormalizable model for CP-violating kinetic mixing that induces CP-violating non-Abelian kinetic mixing at mass dimension …
Recently, both the ATLAS and CMS experiments have observed an excess of events that could be the first evidence for a 125 GeV Higgs boson. This is a few GeV below the (absolute) vacuum stability bound on the Higgs mass in the Standard Model (SM), assuming a Planck mass ultraviolet (UV) cutoff. In this paper, we study some implications of a 125 GeV Higgs boson for new physics in terms of the vacuum stability bound. We first consider the seesaw extension of the SM and find that in type III seesaw, the vacuum stability bound on the Higgs mass can be as low as 125 GeV for the seesaw scale around a…
The implementation of the Type III seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses in the context of left-right theories where parity is broken spontaneously is investigated. We propose a simple left-right symmetric theory where the neutrinos masses are generated through a double seesaw mechanism which is a combination of Type I and Type III seesaw. In this context we find a possible candidate for the cold dark matter in the Universe and discuss the Baryogenesis via Leptogenesis mechanisms. The spectrum of the theory, the phenomenological constraints and the possibility to test the theory at the Large Ha…
We investigate correlation between gauge coupling unification, fermion mass spectrum, proton decay, perturbativity and ultraviolet cutoff within an SU(5) grand unified theory with minimal scalar content and an extra adjoint representation of fermions. We find strong correlation between the upper bound on the mass of both the bosonic and fermionic SU(2) triplets and the cutoff. The upper bound on the mass of fermionic triplet responsible for Type III seesaw mechanism is 10^{2.1} GeV for the Planck scale cutoff. In that case both the idea of grand unification and nature of seesaw mechanism could…
We study a supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism type-III considering two variants of the model: a minimal version for explaining neutrino data with only two copies of 24-plet superfields and a model with three generations of 24-plets. The latter predicts in general rates for $μ\to eγ$ inconsistent with experimental data. However, this bound can be evaded if certain special conditions within the neutrino sector are fulfilled. In case of two 24-plets lepton flavour violation constraints can be satisfied much easier. After specifying the corresponding regions in the CMSSM parameter spac…
We consider the standard model extended by heavy right handed fermions transforming as triplets under SU(2)$_L$, which generate neutrino masses through the Type-III seesaw mechanism. At energies below their respective mass scales, the heavy fields get sequentially decoupled to give an effective dimension-5 operator. Above their mass thresholds, these fields also participate in the renormalization of the wavefunctions, masses and coupling constants. We compute the renormalization group evolution of the effective neutrino mass matrix in this model, with particular emphasis on the threshold effec…
We consider a supersymmetric SU(5) model where two neutrino masses are obtained via a mixed type I+III seesaw mechanism induced by the component fields of a single SU(5) adjoint. We have analyzed the phenomenology of the model paying particular attention to flavour violating processes and dark matter relic density, assuming universal boundary conditions. We have found that, for a seesaw scale larger than $10^{12÷13}$ GeV, BR$(μ\to e γ)$ is in the reach of the MEG experiment in sizable regions of the parameter space. On the other side, current bounds on it force BR$(τ\to μγ)$ to be well below t…
It is well known that a Weinberg dimension-5 operator for small neutrino masses can be realized at tree level in three types of renormalizable models: (i) the type-I seesaw mediated by fermion singlets, (ii) the type-II seesaw mediated by Higgs triplets, (iii) the type-III seesaw mediated by fermion triplets. We here point out such operator can be also induced at tree level by vector-like lepton doublets in association with unusual fermion singlets, Higgs triplets or fermion triplets. If these unusual fermion singlets, Higgs triplets or fermion triplets are heavy enough, their decays can gener…
The implementation of seesaw mechanisms to give mass to neutrinos in the presence of an anomaly-free U(1)_X gauge symmetry is discussed in the context of minimal extensions of the standard model. It is shown that type-I and type-III seesaw mechanisms cannot be simultaneously implemented with an anomaly-free local U(1)_X, unless the symmetry is a replica of the well-known hypercharge. For combined type-I/II or type-III/II seesaw models it is always possible to find nontrivial anomaly-free charge assignments, which are however tightly constrained, if the new neutral gauge boson is kinematically …
In light of the recent neutrino experiment results from Daya Bay and RENO Collaborations, we study phenomenology of neutrino mixing angles in the Type III seesaw model with an discrete $A_4 \times Z_2$ symmetry, whose spontaneously breaking scale is much higher than the electroweak scale. At tree level, the tri-bimaximal (TBM) form of the lepton mixing matrix can be obtained from leptonic Yukawa interactions in a natural way. We introduce all possible effective dimension-5 operators, invariant under the Standard Model gauge group and $A_4 \times Z_2$, and explicitly show that they induce a dev…
We discuss the implementation of the "minimal" type III seesaw model, i.e. with one fermionic triplet, in FeynRules/MadGraph. This is the first step in order to realize a real study of LHC data recorded in the LHC detectors. With this goal in mind, we comment on the possibility of discovering this kind of new physics at the LHC running at 7 TeV with a luminosity of few fb^-1.
The minimal SU(5) theory augmented by the fermionic adjoint representation restores the coupling constant unification and gives realistic neutrino masses and mixing through the hybrid Type I and Type III seesaw. The crucial prediction of the theory is an SU(2) lepton triplet with the mass below TeV. We study the signature of these heavy leptons and propose the strategy to test this mechanism at the hadron and lepton colliders. The smoking gun evidence of the theory is Delta L=2 lepton number violation through events of a pair of like-sign leptons plus four jets without significant missing ener…
Using the functional method, one-loop matching of the type-I, -II and -III seesaw models are investigated and the results are presented in both the Green's and the Warsaw bases. Although these models generate the same dimension-5 Weinberg operator, they could induce quite different types of dimension-6 effective operators that can be utilized for model discrimination. We also find the threshold effects from one-loop matching could be significant, which turn out to allow triggering electroweak symmetry breaking radiatively in type-II seesaw while forbid that in type-I/-III models. An analytical…
The presence of small neutrino masses and flavour mixings can be accounted for naturally in various models about extensions of the standard model, particularly in the seesaw mechanism models. In this work, we present a minimally extended seesaw framework with two right-handed neutrinos, where the active neutrino masses are derived in the radiative regime. Using the framework it can be shown that within certain mass limits, the light neutrino mass term can approach a form that is similar to its form under the type-I seesaw mechanism. Apart from this, we show that the decay width of right-handed…
A Standard Model extension with two Majorana neutrinos can explain the measured neutrino masses and mixings, and also account for the matter-antimatter asymmetry in a region of parameter space that could be testable in future experiments. The testability of the model relies to some extent on its minimality. In this paper we address the possibility that the model might be extended by extra generic new physics which we parametrize in terms of a low-energy effective theory. We consider the effects of the operators of the lowest dimensionality, $d=5$, and evaluate the upper bounds on the coefficie…
In the presence of non-minimal gravitational coupling $ ξH^\dagger H {\cal R}$ between the standard model (SM) Higgs doublet $H$ and the curvature scalar ${\cal R}$, the effective ultraviolet cutoff scale is given by $Λ_{\rm cut}\approx m_P/ξ$, where $m_P$ is the reduced Planck mass, and $ξ\gtrsim 1$ is a dimensionless coupling constant. In type I and type III seesaw extended SM, which can naturally explain the observed solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations, we investigate the implications of this non-minimal gravitational coupling for the SM Higgs boson mass bounds based on vacuum stabi…
