Identification of beyond-standard-models including WIMP dark matter is studied in four particle final state with a W boson pair and a WIMP pair at the International Linear Collider. Models with different spin structures give distinguishable production angle distributions. After the mass determination in each model, the production angle is reconstructed using the four momentum of W bosons with a back-to-back constraint. Three models of Inert Higgs, Supersymmetry and Little Higgs are considered. Discrimination power at 200 fb and 40 fb signal cross section with 500 fb-1 luminosity at sqrt(s) = 500 GeV is obtained.
We identify two types of well-motivated, so-far experimentally unexplored LHC signatures of extended Higgs sectors: First, Higgs-to-Higgs decay signatures that involve (at least) two Beyond-the-Standard Model (BSM) neutral scalar bosons, $ϕ_i \to ϕ_j ϕ_k$. These signatures are discussed in the framework of the Two-Real-Singlet-Model (TRSM), which can furthermore exhibit cascades of Higgs-to-Higgs decays leading to multi-Higgs final states. Second, the charged Higgs boson decay to a W boson and a neutral BSM Higgs boson, which can easily become the dominant decay within the Two-Higgs-Doublet-Mo…
We consider the possible production of the Higgs Boson in association with a top-quark pair and its subsequent decay into a tau-lepton pair or a W-boson pair. This process can give rise to many signatures of the Higgs boson. These signatures can have electrons, muons, tau jets, bottom jets and/or light flavour jets. We analyze the viability of some of these signatures. We will look at those signatures where the background is minimal. In particular, we explore the viability of the signatures "isolated 4 electron/muon" and "isolated 3 electron/muon + a jet" The jet can be due to a light flavour …
If the Higgs boson is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (PNGB), the $hZγ$ contact interaction induced by the $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ invariants of the non-linear sigma model is free from its nonlinearity effects. The process $h\rightarrow Zγ$ can be used to eliminate the universal effects of heavy particles, which can fake the nonlinearity effects of the PNGB Higgs boson in the process $h\rightarrow V^*V$ ($V=W^\pm$,\ $Z$). We demonstrate that the ratio of the signal strength of $h\rightarrow Zγ$ and $h\rightarrow V^*V$ is good to distinguish the signature of the PNGB Higgs boson from Higgs coupling d…
At the Large Hadron Collider, numerous physics processes expected within the standard model and theories beyond it give rise to very high momentum particles decaying to multihadronic final states. Development of algorithms for efficient identification of such "boosted" particles while rejecting the background from multihadron jets from light quarks and gluons can greatly aid in the sensitivity of measurements and new particle searches. This paper presents a new method for identifying boosted high-mass particles using event shapes in Lorentz-boosted reference frames. Variables calculated in the…
In this article, we investigate the $μ^-\to e^-X$ process in a muonic atom, where $X$ is a light neutral boson. By calculating the spectrum of the emitted electron for several cases, we discuss the model-discriminating power of the process. We report the strong model dependence of the spectrum near a high-energy endpoint. Our findings show that future experiments using muonic atoms are helpful to identify the properties of exotic bosons.
We consider the process $p p \to t {\bar t} H$. This process can give rise to many signatures of the Higgs boson. The signatures can have electrons, muons and jets. We consider the signatures that have two electrons/muons and jets. Tagging of a tau jet and a bottom jet can help reduce the backgrounds significantly. In particular, we examine the usefulness of the signatures "isolated 2 electrons/muons + a bottom jet + a tau jet", "isolated 2 electrons/muons + 2 tau jets", "isolated 2 electrons/muons + 2 bottom jets + a tau jet", and "isolated 2 electrons/muons + a bottom jet + 2 tau jets". We f…
The resonance production of new chiral spin-1 bosons and their detection through the Drell--Yan process at the CERN LHC is considered. Quantitative evaluations of various differential cross-sections of the chiral bosons production are made within the CalcHEP package. The new neutral chiral bosons can be observed as a Breit--Wigner resonance peak in the invariant dilepton mass distribution, as usual. However, unique new signatures of the chiral bosons exist. First, there is no Jacobian peak in the lepton transverse momentum distribution. Second, the lepton angular distribution in the Collins-So…
In supersymmetric theories of nature the Higgsino fermionic superpartner of the Higgs boson can arise as the lightest standard model superpartner depending on the couplings between the Higgs and supersymmetry breaking sectors. In this letter the production and decay of Higgsino pairs to the Goldstone fermion of supersymmetry breaking and the Higgs boson, h, or gauge bosons, Z or $γ$ are considered. Relatively clean di-boson final states, hh, $h γ$, hZ, $Z γ$, or ZZ, with a large amount of missing energy result. The latter channels provide novel discovery modes for supersymmetry at high energy …
The charged Higgs boson is a smoking gun of extensions of the standard model with multiple Higgs-doublets, and has been searched for at various collider experiments. In this paper, we study signature of a light charged Higgs boson produced by top quark pairs at the LHC, with subsequent three-body decays into a W boson and a pair of bottom quarks. Cross sections on final states of two W bosons plus four bottom quarks have been measured by the ATLAS collaboration at the LHC 13 TeV. We reinterpret the experimental data under the scenario of a light charged Higgs boson, and find improved agreement…
The alignment phenomenon, that the 125 GeV $h^0$ boson so resembles the Standard Model Higgs boson, can be understood in a two Higgs doublet model without discrete symmetry. New Yukawa couplings $ρ_{tt}$ and $ρ_{tc}$ offer new avenues to discover the extra scalar $H^0$ and pseudoscalar $A^0$. We propose to search for $cg \to tH^0$, $tA^0$ followed by $H^0$, $A^0 \to t\bar t$, $t\bar c$, where same-sign dileptons could be the harbinger, with triple-top, in the signature of three leptons plus three $b$-jets, as confirmation. Discovery could touch upon the origin of baryon asymmetry of the Univer…
New Neutral Gauge Bosons, Z' 's, are predicted by many models of physics beyond the Standard Electroweak Theory. It is possible that a Z' would be discovered early in the Large Hadron Collider program. The next step would be to measure its properties to identify the underlying theory that gave rise to the Z'. Heavy quarks have the unique property that they can be identified in the final states. In this letter we demonstrate that measuring Z' decays to b- and t-quark final states can act as an effective means of discriminating between models with extra gauge bosons.
We study the LHC signatures of new gauge bosons in the gauge-invariant minimal Higgsless model. It predicts an extra pair of W_1 and Z_1 bosons which can be as light as ~400GeV and play a key role in the delay of unitarity violation. We analyze the W_1 signals in pp --> W_0Z_0Z_0 --> jj4\ell and pp --> jj W_0Z_0 --> jj3\ellνprocesses at the LHC, including the complete electroweak and QCD backgrounds. We reveal the complementarity between these two channels for discovering the W_1 boson, and demonstrate the LHC discovery potential over the full range of allowed W_1 mass.
The production of doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^{\pm\pm}) at the CERN LHC can give rise to distinctive multi-lepton signatures. The discovery potential of H^{\pm\pm} can be optimized by considering a search strategy which is sensitive to both of the dominant production mechanisms, q\bar q\to H^{++}H^{--} and q\bar {q'}\to H^{\pm\pm}H^{\mp}. We compare the discovery potential for the signatures of exactly four leptons and at least three leptons in the final state, using the same set of cuts. We have carried out fast detector simulations at the LHC for both signal and backgrounds for a wide ran…
We present the discovery prospects for a Z' resonance and some expected results for Z' diagnostic measurements at the LHC. The discovery reach is highly dependent on the energy and luminosities that may be attained at the LHC, and a number of energy and integrated luminosity scenarios are presented. In addition, the use of third generation quark final states for distinguishing between models and for measuring a forward-backward asymmetry is explored.
The HyperCP collaboration has observed three events for the decay $Σ^+ \to p μ^+ μ^-$. The three events may be interpreted as a new narrow-width CP-odd scalar $a$ with the mass $214.3 \pm 0.5$ MeV. Here $a$ decays dominantly into di-muon ($μ^+μ^-$). As the consequence of tiny mass difference between $m_a$ and 2$m_μ$ ($2 m_μ \approx$ 211.3 MeV), di-muon will be boosted to almost the same direction at colliders. Such kind of di-muon events have been overlooked in the past experiments. Provided that the precision data preferred light SM-like Higgs boson $h$ decays dominantly into $a a$ other than…
Thermal dark matter scenarios based on light (sub-GeV) fermions typically require the presence of an extra dark sector containing both a massive dark photon along with a dark Higgs boson. The latter generates both the dark photon mass and an additional mass term for the dark sector fermions. This simple setup has both rich phenomenology and bright detection prospects at high-intensity accelerator experiments. We point out that in addition to the well studied pseudo-Dirac regime, this model can achieve the correct relic density in three different scenarios, and examine in details their properti…
We study $4b+2τ$ and $4b+1τ$ signatures of heavy neutral and charged Higgs bosons originating from cascade decays of pair-produced new quarks. Decays of vectorlike quarks through heavy Higgses can easily dominate in the two Higgs doublet model of type-II, and the studied signatures are common to many possible decay chains. We design search strategies for these final states and discuss the mass ranges of heavy Higgs bosons and new quarks that can be explored at the Large Hadron Collider as functions of branching ratios in a model independent way. We further combine the results with a similar st…
We explore an intriguing possibility to test the type-II seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We show that the lepton-number-violating signatures of heavy Majorana neutrinos N_i (for i=1, 2, 3) and doubly-charged Higgs bosons H^++(H^--) can be closely correlated with each other in a class of TeV-scale type-II seesaw models. Taking the minimal version of such models for example, we calculate the cross sections of pp -> l^+_αl^+_βX (l^-_αl^-_βX) processes mediated separately by N_1 and H^++(H^--), and illustrate their nontrivial correlation at the LHC.
We point out that W' bosons may decay predominantly into Higgs particles associated with their broken gauge symmetry. We demonstrate this in a renormalizable model where the W' and W couplings to fermions differ only by an overall normalization. This "meta-sequential" W' boson decays into a scalar pair, with the charged one subsequently decaying into a W boson and a neutral scalar. These scalars are odd under a parity of the Higgs sector, which consists of a complex bidoublet and a doublet. The W' and Z' bosons have the same mass and branching fractions into scalars, and may show up at the LHC…
Motivated by our limited knowledge of the Higgs couplings to first two generation fermions, we analyze the collider phenomenology of a class of two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs) with a non-standard Yukawa sector. One Higgs doublet is mainly responsible for the masses of the weak gauge bosons and the third generation fermions, while the second Higgs doublet provides mass for the lighter fermion generations. The characteristic collider signatures of this setup differ significantly from well-studied 2HDMs with natural flavor conservation, flavor alignment, or minimal flavor violation. New producti…
The breakdown of the SU(6) global symmetry to its SU(5) subgroup, that contains the standard model (SM) gauge group, in the E6 inspired composite Higgs model (E6CHM) results in a set of pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons (pNGBs). This set, in particular, involves the SM-like Higgs doublet and a SM singlet boson. In the limit when CP is conserved the SM singlet scalar A is a CP-odd state that does not mix with the SM-like Higgs. The interactions of A with exotic matter beyond the SM, which ensures anomaly cancellation and approximate gauge coupling unification, can induce couplings of this pseudosca…
Searches for dark matter at colliders typically involve signatures with energetic initial-state radiation without visible recoil particles. Searches for mono-jet or mono-photon signatures have yielded powerful constraints on dark matter interactions with Standard Model particles. We extend this to the mono-Z signature and reinterpret an ATLAS analysis of events with a Z boson and missing transverse momentum to derive constraints on dark matter interaction mass scale and nucleon cross sections in the context of effective field theories describing dark matter which interacts via heavy mediator p…
We study LHC Higgs signatures from topflavor seesaw realization of electroweak symmetry breaking with a minimal gauge extension SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1). This elegant renormalizable construction singles out top quark sector (instead of all other light fermions) to join the new SU(2) gauge force. It predicts extra vector-like spectator quarks (T, B), new gauge bosons (W', Z'), and a pair of neutral Higgs bosons (h, H). We demonstrate that for the lighter Higgs boson h of mass 125GeV, this model predicts modified Higgs signal rates in h --> γγ, WW*, ZZ* channels via gluon fusions, in h --> tau tau m…
We analyze the prospect for observing the lightest and heaviest CP-even neutral Higgs bosons ($ϕ=h,\;H$) in their decays to flavor violating $b\bar{s}$ (with charge conjugate) final states at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III (2HDM-III) assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We consider the charge current production processes $e^- p \to ν_e ϕq_f$ ($ϕ= h, \; H$), with the flavor violating decays of the Higgs bosons. We consider scenarios of the model which are consistent with cur…
We study LHC Higgs signatures from the extended electroweak gauge symmetry SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1). Under this gauge structure, we present an effective UV completion of the 3-site moose model with ideal fermion delocalization, which contains two neutral Higgs states (h, H) and three new gauge bosons (W', Z'). We study the unitarity, and reveal that the exact E^2 cancellation in the longitudinal WW scattering amplitudes is achieved by the joint role of exchanging both spin-1 new gauge bosons and spin-0 Higgs bosons. We identify the lighter Higgs state h with mass 125GeV, and derive the unitarity b…
The most general Two Higgs Doublet Model potential without explicit CP violation depends on 10 real independent parameters. Excluding spontaneous CP violation results in two 7 parameter models. Although both models give rise to 5 scalar particles and 2 mixing angles, the resulting phenomenology of the scalar sectors is different. If flavour changing neutral currents at tree level are to be avoided, one has, in both cases, four alternative ways of introducing the fermion couplings. In one of these models the mixing angle of the CP even sector can be chosen in such a way that the fermion couplin…
The conventional signature for grand unified theories (GUT) is the proton decay. Recently, some models in extra dimensions or with specific discrete symmetries, which aim at solving the doublet-triplet problem, allow the color-triplet in the TeV mass region by suppressing the Yukawa couplings of the triplets to matter fermions. We study the hadronic production and detection of these TeV colored Higgs bosons as an alternative signature for GUT, which would behave like massive stable charged particles in particle detectors producing a striking signature of a charged track in the central tracking…
This paper studies the utility of the processes $γγ\to γγ$, $γZ$, and $ZZ$ in searching for sources of CP violation arising from energy scales beyond the production thresholds of planned future colliders. In the context of an effective Lagrangian approach we consider the most general set of CP odd SU(2) $\times$ U(1) operators that give rise to genuinely quartic gauge boson couplings which can be probed in $2 \to 2$ scattering processes at a $γγ$ collider. We study each process in detail, emphasizing the complementary information that is obtained by varying the initial beam polarizations. Fina…
The high-energy scattering of massive electroweak bosons, known as vector boson scattering (VBS), is a sensitive probe of new physics. VBS signatures will be thoroughly and systematically investigated at the LHC with the large data samples available and those that will be collected in the near future. Searches for deviations from Standard Model (SM) expectations in VBS facilitate tests of the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB) mechanism. Current state-of-the-art tools and theory developments, together with the latest experimental results, and the studies foreseen for the near future are summ…

This Letter presents a study of the reconstruction and identification of $H\to WW^*$ with high transverse momentum, where both $W^{(*)}$ bosons decay hadronically. We show that the boosted $H\to WW^*$ can be effectively reconstructed as a single jet and identified using jet substructures in the center-of-mass frame of the jet. Such a reconstruction and identification approach can discriminate the boosted $H\to WW^*$ in the full hadronic final state from QCD jets. This result will significantly improve experimental sensitivities of searches for potential new physics phenomena beyond the standar…
We investigate the possible detection of the Hypercharge Axion (HCA) in colliders. The HCA is a hypothetical pseudoscalar that couples to weak hypercharge topological density and could potentially explain the dominance of matter over antimatter in the observable universe. If the HCA exists, it can be produced in colliders via vector boson fusion or in association with a photon or with a Z boson, and detected by looking for its decay into photons or Z bosons. We find that for certain values of the HCA mass and coupling scales, both of the order of a TeV, existing data from the Large Hadron Coll…
In searches for new physics in the energy regime of the LHC, it is becoming increasingly important to distinguish single-jet objects that originate from the merging of the decay products of W bosons produced with high transverse momenta from jets initiated by single partons. Algorithms are defined to identify such W jets for different signals of interest, using techniques that are also applicable to other decays of bosons to hadrons that result in a single jet, such as those from highly boosted Z and Higgs bosons. The efficiency for tagging W jets is measured in data collected with the CMS det…
We present a search for a new heavy charged vector boson $W^\prime$ decaying to an electron-neutrino pair in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $1.96\unit{TeV}$. The data were collected with the CDF II detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $5.3\unit{fb}^{-1}$. No significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed and we set upper limits on $σ\cdot{\cal B}(W^\prime\to eν)$. Assuming standard model couplings to fermions and the neutrino from the $W^\prime$ boson decay to be light, we exclude a $W^\prime$ boson with mass less than $1.12\unit{TeV/…
We present the development and validation of the Higgs Optimized b Identification Tagger (HOBIT), a multivariate b-jet identification algorithm optimized for Higgs boson searches at the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. At collider experiments, b taggers allow one to distinguish particle jets containing B hadrons from other jets; these algorithms have been used for many years with great success at CDF. HOBIT has been designed specifically for use in searches for light Higgs bosons decaying via H ! b\bar{b}. This fact combined with the extent to which HOBIT synthesizes and extends the be…
The problems of neutrino masses, matter-antimatter asymmetry, and dark matter could be successfully addressed by postulating right-handed neutrinos with Majorana masses below the electroweak scale. In this work, leptonic decays of $W$ bosons extracted from 32.9 fb$^{-1}$ to 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ of 13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC are used to search for heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) that are produced through mixing with muon or electron neutrinos. The search is conducted using the ATLAS detector in both prompt and displaced leptonic decay signatures. The prompt signature requires three lepto…
We report on searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying to $b \bar{b}$ in $pp$ collisions at the ATLAS and CMS experiments. These rely on signatures where the Higgs boson is produced in association with a vector boson or in association with a top-quark pair. Results are presented, based on $5.0~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s} = 7$~TeV and up to $13.0~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of data at $\sqrt{s} = 8$~TeV collected by the LHC accelerator. These are expressed in terms of 95\% confidence level upper limits on the production cross section of the Standard Model Higgs boson …
Motivated by dark-photon $\barγ$ scenarios extensively considered in the literature, we explore experimentally allowed models where the Higgs boson coupling to photon and dark photon $Hγ\barγ$ can be enhanced. Correspondingly, large rates for the $H\to γ\bar γ$ decay become plausible, giving rise to one monochromatic photon with $E^γ\simeq m_H/2$ (i.e., more than twice the photon energy in the rare standard-model decay $H\to γZ\toγ\barνν$), and a similar amount of missing energy. We perform a model-independent study of this exotic resonant monophoton signature at the LHC, featuring a distincti…
We present results for various searches for signatures of standard and non-standard model Higgs boson decays conducted at the collider detectors CDF and DO using ~ 100 pb^-1 of integrated luminosity each from the Tevatron Collider Run 1 (1992-96) at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. No evidence for a Higgs boson decay is found and various limits are set.
This paper reports a detailed study of techniques for identifying boosted, hadronically decaying $W$ bosons using 20fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV. A range of techniques for optimising the signal jet mass resolution are combined with various jet substructure variables. The results of these studies in Monte Carlo simulations show that a simple pairwise combination of groomed jet mass and one substructure variable can provide a 50% efficiency for identifying $W$ bosons with transverse momenta larg…
A direct search for Higgs bosons produced via vector-boson fusion and subsequently decaying into invisible particles is reported. The analysis uses 139 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$=13 $\text{TeV}$ recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The observed numbers of events are found to be in agreement with the background expectation from Standard Model processes. For a scalar Higgs boson with a mass of 125 $\text{GeV}$ and a Standard Model production cross section, an observed upper limit of $0.145$ is placed on the branching fraction of its dec…
This paper describes a study of techniques for identifying Higgs bosons at high transverse momenta decaying into bottom-quark pairs, $H \rightarrow b\bar{b}$, for proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. These decays are reconstructed from calorimeter jets found with the anti-$k_{t}$ $R = 1.0$ jet algorithm. To tag Higgs bosons, a combination of requirements is used: $b$-tagging of $R = 0.2$ track-jets matched to the large-$R$ calorimeter jet, and requirements on the jet mass and other jet substructu…
We present results of searches for diphoton resonances produced both inclusively and also in association with a vector boson (W or Z) using 100 pb^{-1} of p\bar p collisions using the CDF detector. We set upper limits on the product of cross section times branching ratio for both p\bar p\toγγ+ X and p\bar p\toγγ+ W/Z. Comparing the inclusive production to the expectations from heavy sgoldstinos we derive limits on the supersymmetry-breaking scale sqrt{F} in the TeV range, depending on the sgoldstino mass and the choice of other parameters. Also, using a NLO prediction for the associated produc…
The missing transverse energy (MET) plus b-jets signature is very promising for searches for the Higgs boson or new physics. Indeed, MET naturally arises from unidentified particles such as neutrinos, neutralinos, gravitons, etc., and b-quarks are the main decay products of a low mass Higgs boson as well as of several exotic particles. The main challenge is to identify and reject the numerous standard model (SM) backgrounds that mimic this signature. This is especially so for QCD multi-jet production, a large background due to mis-measurement (rather than undetectable particles). We present st…
In this paper, a new technique for reconstructing and identifying hadronically decaying $τ^+τ^-$ pairs with a large Lorentz boost, referred to as the di-$τ$ tagger, is developed and used for the first time in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. A benchmark di-$τ$ tagging selection is employed in the search for resonant Higgs boson pair production, where one Higgs boson decays into a boosted $b\bar{b}$ pair and the other into a boosted $τ^+τ^-$ pair, with two hadronically decaying $τ$-leptons in the final state. Using 139 fb$^{-1}$ of proton$-$proton collision data recorded at a …
