In this paper we present a comparative study on fusion of visual and thermal images using different wavelet transformations. Here, coefficients of discrete wavelet transforms from both visual and thermal images are computed separately and combined. Next, inverse discrete wavelet transformation is taken in order to obtain fused face image. Both Haar and Daubechies (db2) wavelet transforms have been used to compare recognition results. For experiments IRIS Thermal/Visual Face Database was used. Experimental results using Haar and Daubechies wavelets show that the performance of the approach presented here achieves maximum success rate of 100% in many cases.
In this paper fusion of visual and thermal images in wavelet transformed domain has been presented. Here, Daubechies wavelet transform, called as D2, coefficients from visual and corresponding coefficients computed in the same manner from thermal images are combined to get fused coefficients. After decomposition up to fifth level (Level 5) fusion of coefficients is done. Inverse Daubechies wavelet transform of those coefficients gives us fused face images. The main advantage of using wavelet transform is that it is well-suited to manage different image resolution and allows the image decomposi…
This paper investigates the multiresolution level-1 and level-2 Quotient based Fusion of thermal and visual images. In the proposed system, the method-1 namely "Decompose then Quotient Fuse Level-1" and the method-2 namely "Decompose-Reconstruct then Quotient Fuse Level-2" both work on wavelet transformations of the visual and thermal face images. The wavelet transform is well-suited to manage different image resolution and allows the image decomposition in different kinds of coefficients, while preserving the image information without any loss. This approach is based on a definition of an ill…
Thermal infra-red (IR) images focus on changes of temperature distribution on facial muscles and blood vessels. These temperature changes can be regarded as texture features of images. A comparative study of face recognition methods working in thermal spectrum is carried out in this paper. In these study two local-matching methods based on Haar wavelet transform and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) are analyzed. Wavelet transform is a good tool to analyze multi-scale, multi-direction changes of texture. Local binary patterns (LBP) are a type of feature used for classification in computer vision. Fir…
This paper demonstrates two different fusion techniques at two different levels of a human face recognition process. The first one is called data fusion at lower level and the second one is the decision fusion towards the end of the recognition process. At first a data fusion is applied on visual and corresponding thermal images to generate fused image. Data fusion is implemented in the wavelet domain after decomposing the images through Daubechies wavelet coefficients (db2). During the data fusion maximum of approximate and other three details coefficients are merged together. After that Prin…
This paper presents a novel face and periocular biometric fusion at feature level using canonical correlation analysis. Face recognition itself has limitations such as illumination, pose, expression, occlusion etc. Also, periocular biometrics has spectacles, head angle, hair and expression as its limitations. Unimodal biometrics cannot surmount all these limitations. The recognition accuracy can be increased by fusing dual information (face and periocular) from a single source (face image) using canonical correlation analysis (CCA). This work also proposes a new wavelet decomposed local binary…
Among the existing fusion algorithms, the wavelet fusion method is the most frequently discussed one in recent publications because the wavelet approach preserves the spectral characteristics of the multispectral image better than other methods. The Brovey is also a popular fusion method used for its ability in preserving the spatial information of the PAN image. This study presents a new fusion approach that integrates the advantages of both the Brovey (which preserves a high degree of spatial information) and the wavelet (which preserves a high degree of spectral information) techniques to r…
In this paper a comparative study between Moravec and Harris Corner Detection has been done for obtaining features required to track and recognize objects within a noisy image. Corner detection of noisy images is a challenging task in image processing. Natural images often get corrupted by noise during acquisition and transmission. As Corner detection of these noisy images does not provide desired results, hence de-noising is required. Adaptive wavelet thresholding approach is applied for the same.

Detecting camouflaged moving foreground objects has been known to be difficult due to the similarity between the foreground objects and the background. Conventional methods cannot distinguish the foreground from background due to the small differences between them and thus suffer from under-detection of the camouflaged foreground objects. In this paper, we present a fusion framework to address this problem in the wavelet domain. We first show that the small differences in the image domain can be highlighted in certain wavelet bands. Then the likelihood of each wavelet coefficient being foregro…
In an appropriate image fusion method, spatial information of the panchromatic image is injected into the multispectral images such that the spectral information is not distorted. The high-pass modulation method is a successful method in image fusion. However, the main drawback of this method is that this technique uses the boxcar filter to extract the high frequency information of the panchromatic image. Using the boxcar filter introduces the ringing effect into the fused image. To cope with this problem, we use the wavelet transform instead of boxcar filters. Then, the results of the propose…
This report presents the results of a multi-scale wavelet based scheme for single image de-hazing and underwater image enhancement. The scheme is fast and highly localized in addition to global enhancement of hazy images. A PDE-based formulation enables additional versatility as the iterative nature allows more flexibility for various types of images. Visual and objective results from experiments indicate that the proposed approach competes favourably or surpasses most of the state-of-the-art approaches.
This paper presents the Discrete Wavelet based fusion techniques for combining perceptually important image features. SPIHT (Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees) algorithm is an efficient method for lossy and lossless coding of fused image. This paper presents some modifications on the SPIHT algorithm. It is based on the idea of insignificant correlation of wavelet coefficient among the medium and high frequency sub bands. In RE-MSPIHT algorithm, wavelet coefficients are scaled prior to SPIHT coding based on the sub band importance, with the goal of minimizing the MSE.

Image fusion produces a single fused image from a set of input images. A new method for image fusion is proposed based on Weighted Average Merging Method (WAMM) in the NonSubsampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT) domain. A performance analysis on various statistical fusion rules are also analysed both in NSCT and Wavelet domain. Analysis has been made on medical images, remote sensing images and multi focus images. Experimental results shows that the proposed method, WAMM obtained better results in NSCT domain than the wavelet domain as it preserves more edges and keeps the visual quality intact …

The GAN-based infrared and visible image fusion methods have gained ever-increasing attention due to its effectiveness and superiority. However, the existing methods adopt the global pixel distribution of source images as the basis for discrimination, which fails to focus on the key modality information. Moreover, the dual-discriminator based methods suffer from the confrontation between the discriminators. To this end, we propose an attention-guided and wavelet-constrained GAN for infrared and visible image fusion (AWFGAN). In this method, two unique discrimination strategies are designed to …

We propose a fusion algorithm for haze removal that combines color information from an RGB image and edge information extracted from its corresponding NIR image using Haar wavelets. The proposed algorithm is based on the key observation that NIR edge features are more prominent in the hazy regions of the image than the RGB edge features in those same regions. To combine the color and edge information, we introduce a haze-weight map which proportionately distributes the color and edge information during the fusion process. Because NIR images are, intrinsically, nearly haze-free, our work makes …

An ideal fusion method preserves the Spectral information in fused image and adds spatial information to it with no spectral distortion. Recently wavelet kalman filter method is proposed which uses ARSIS concept to fuses MS and PAN images. This method is applied in a multiscale version, i.e. the variable index is scale instead of time. With the aim of fusion we present a more detailed study on this model and discuss about rationality of its assumptions such as first order markov model and Gaussian distribution of the posterior density. Finally, we propose a method using wavelet Kalman Particle…

We handle these artifacts separately by decomposing an input image into multiple frequency bands using discrete wavelet transform, which generates the downsampled structure image and detail images. These sub-band images are used as input to our dual-stream network that incorporates two sub-networks: the multi-color space fusion network and the detail enhancement network. The multi-color space fusion network takes the decomposed structure image as input and estimates the color corre…

Current RGB-based 6D object pose estimation methods have achieved noticeable performance on datasets and real world applications. However, predicting 6D pose from single 2D image features is susceptible to disturbance from changing of environment and textureless or resemblant object surfaces. Hence, RGB-based methods generally achieve less competitive results than RGBD-based methods, which deploy both image features and 3D structure features. To narrow down this performance gap, this paper proposes a framework for 6D object pose estimation that learns implicit 3D information from 2 RGB images.…

The moving objects are detected and tracked using the improved Gaussian mixture models (GMM) and Kalman filtering. New fusion rules are introduced which work on the magnitudes and angles of the DT-CWT coefficients independently to achieve a sha…

Visual recognition inside the vehicle cabin leads to safer driving and more intuitive human-vehicle interaction but such systems face substantial obstacles as they need to capture different granularities of driver behaviour while dealing with highly limited body visibility and changing illumination. Multimodal recognition mitigates a number of such issues: prediction outcomes of different sensors complement each other due to different modality-specific strengths and weaknesses. While several late fusion methods have been considered in previously published frameworks, they constantly feature di…
