We consider the prospect of lightest neutralino (${\tilde χ}_1^0$) as a dark matter candidate in the light of recent interesting observations from the XENON100 and CDMS-II experiments in minimal supergravity framework with large $\tanβ$ and non-vanishing $A_0$. Within the WMAP satisfied zone, there is a large direct detection reach of lighter ${\tilde χ}_1^0$ in the lighter Higgs boson mediated resonance annihilation domain of the above scenario. It is seen that the heavier Higgs boson plays a dominating role in the ${\tilde χ}_1^0-p$ cross-section in the associated zone of parameter space in spite of having a larger mass. Possible LHC signatures are discussed.
We consider the recent limits on dark matter - nucleon elastic scattering cross section from the analysis of CDMS II collaboration using the two signal events observed in CDMS experiment. With these limits we try to interpret the Super-Kamiokande (SK) bounds on the detection rates of up-going muons induced by the neutrinos that are produced in the sun from the decay of annihilation products of dark matter (WIMPs) captured in the solar core. Calculated rates of up-going muons for different annihilation channels at SK using CDMS bounds are found to be orders below the predicted upper limits of s…
We discuss the neutrino constraints from solar and terrestrial dark matter (DM) annihilations in the inelastic dark matter (iDM) scenario after the recent CDMS II results. To reconcile the DAMA/LIBRA data with constraints from all other direct experiments, the iDM needs to be light ($m_χ< 100$ GeV) and have a large DM-nucleon cross section ($σ_n \sim$ 10$^{-4}$ pb in the spin-independent (SI) scattering and $σ_n \sim$ 10 pb in the spin-dependent (SD) scattering). The dominant contribution to the iDM capture in the Sun is from scattering off Fe/Al in the SI/SD case. Current bounds from Super-Ka…
We take the recent result from the CDMS collaboration as a hint that the dark matter has an elastic scattering cross section with the nucleon in the vicinity of 10^-7 pb. By crossing symmetry such a cross section implies annihilation of dark matter into hadrons inside the halo, resulting in an anti-proton flux that could be constrained by data from the PAMELA collaboration if one includes a large boost factor necessary to explain the PAMELA excess in the positron fraction. As an illustration, we present a model-independent analysis for a fermionic dark matter and study the upper bound on the b…
In a scenario of Higgs portal dark matter, Higgs exchange processes are essential for both dark matter annihilation in the early Universe and direct search experiments. The CDMS II collaboration has recently released their final results on direct dark matter searches. We study a scalar dark matter model with multi-Higgs doublets under the constraint from the CDMS II results and also from the WMAP data. We find that the possible maximal value for the branching ratio of the invisible decay of the Higgs boson can be significantly greater than that in the Higgs portal model with one Higgs doublet,…
Light fermionic/scalar dark matter (DM) (m_DM ~ 8 GeV) neutral under the standard model can be responsible for the CDMS and CoGeNT signals, and the Fermi-LAT gamma-ray excesses. In order to explain them in a relatively simple framework, we have explored various DM annihilation and scattering processes, discussing important phenomenological constraints coming from particle physics. Assuming that the two independent observations have a common DM origin and the processes arise through a common mediator, DM should annihilate into tau/anti-tau lepton pairs through an s-channel, and scatter with nuc…
We discuss a supersymmetric model for cogenesis of dark and baryonic matter where the dark matter (DM) has mass in the 8-10 GeV range as indicated by several direct detection searches including most recently the CDMS experiment with the desired cross section. The DM candidate is a real scalar filed. Two key distinguishing features of the model are the following: (i) in contrast with the conventional WIMP dark matter scenarios where thermal freeze-out is responsible for the observed relic density, our model uses non-thermal production of dark matter after reheating of the universe caused by mod…
Recent results from the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) experiment have renewed interest in light dark matter with a large spin-independent neutralino-nucleon scattering cross-section. Here, we examine the regions of the Next-to-MSSM (NMSSM) capable of producing a light neutralino with a large spin-independent scattering cross-section, with the scattering mediated by a very light singlet-like scalar, and a 126 GeV Standard Model-like Higgs consistent with the LHC results, while satisfying other relevant cosmological, flavor and collider constraints. We focus on two different scenarios for …
Several direct detection experiments have reported positive signals consistent with a dark matter particle with a mass of approximately 7-9 GeV and a spin independent scattering cross section of 2.5-4.8 x 10^-41 cm^2. These results do not rise to the level of discovery, but assuming that they are due to dark matter, some questions about the underlying physics can already be addressed. In this paper, I apply the effective operator formalism for dark matter-Standard Model interactions to the results of the CoGeNT and CDMS silicon target experiments. I demonstrate that only one set of flavor-blin…
By selecting two-jet like events and employing sensitive observable, we find that two kinds of colour connections at the hard-soft interface lead to significantly differences in hadron states.
We calculate the spin density matrix of the vector meson produced in e+e- annihilation at Z^0 pole. We show that the data imply a significant polarization for the antiquark which is created in the fragmentation process of the polarized initial quark and combines with the fragmenting quark to form the vector meson. The direction of polarization is opposite to that of the fragmenting quark and the magnitude is of the order of 0.5. A qualitative explanation of this result based on the LUND string fragmentation model is given.
We present the leading unpolarized and single spin asymmetries in inclusive two-hadron production in electron-positron annihilation at the Z pole. The azimuthal dependence in the unpolarized differential cross section of almost back-to-back hadrons is a leading cos(2 phi) asymmetry, which arises solely due to the intrinsic transverse momenta of the quarks. An extensive discussion on how to measure this asymmetry and the accompanying time-reversal odd fragmentation functions is given. A simple estimate indicates that the asymmetry could be of the order of a percent.
Hadronic events in $e^+ e^- \to Z^0$ are generated by a Monte-Carlo model including the production of colour separate states. These events are compared with those produced by the JETSET with default set of parameters where the colour connections are colour singlet chains. By selecting two-jet-like events and a sensitive observable, we find that these two kinds of colour connections lead to significant differences in the hadronic states.
In a large class of models we show that the light scalar field responsible for the Sommerfeld enhancement in the annihilation of dark matter leads to observable direct detection rates, due to its mixing with the standard model Higgs. As a result the large annihilation cross-section of dark matter at present epoch, required to explain the observed cosmic ray anomalies, can be strongly constrained by direct searches. In particular Sommerfeld boost factors of order of a few hundred are already out of the CDMS-II upper bound at 90% confidence level for reasonable values of the model parameters.
We explore the electron neutrino signals from light dark matter (DM) annihilation in the Sun for the large liquid scintillator detector JUNO. In terms of the spectrum features of three typical DM annihilation channels $χχ\rightarrow ν\barν,τ^+ τ^-, b \bar{b}$, we take two sets of selection conditions to calculate the expected signals and atmospheric neutrino backgrounds based on the Monte Carlo simulation data. Then the JUNO sensitivities to the spin independent DM-nucleon and spin dependent DM-proton cross sections are presented. It is found that the JUNO projected sensitivities are much bett…
In the pole-dominance model for the two-body nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons $D \rightarrow PV$ and $D \rightarrow VV$, it is shown that the contributions of the intermediate pseudoscalar and the axial-vector meson poles cancel each other in the annihilation diagrams in the chiral limit. In the same limit, the annihilation diagrams for the $D \rightarrow PP$ decays vanish independently.
The production of four hadronic jets in e+e- collisions above the Z pole is dominated by the QCD e+e- --> qqqq, qqgg processes and, for sufficiently high energy, the electroweak e+e- --> W+W- --> qqqq process. However there is another mechanism for producing four jets, e+e- --> Z gg --> qqgg, which can be regarded as a `hadronic return' to the Z pole. We investigate this new process in detail
Nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons into two pseudoscalar mesons or one pseudoscalar meson and one vector meson are studied on the basis of a generalized factorization method considering the resonance effects in the pole model for the annihilation contributions. Large strong phases between different topological diagrams are considered in this work, simply taking the phase in the coefficients $a_i$. We find that the annihilation-type contributions calculated in the pole model are large in both of the $PP$ and $PV$ modes, which make our numerical results agree with the experimental data better …
We examine the dark matter phenomenology in supersymmetric light higgs boson scenarios, adapting nonuniversal Higgs masses at the gauge coupling unification scale. The correct relic density is obtained mostly through the annihilation into a pseudoscalar $A$, which gives high values for the self-annihilation cross-section at present times. Our analysis shows that most part of the $A$ pole region can produce detectable gamma-rays and antiproton signals, and still be compatible with with recent direct detection data from XENON100 and CDMS-II.
In models with one universal extra dimension (UED), the first Kaluza-Klein excitations of the hypercharge gauge boson, B^(1), and the neutral component of isospin gauge boson, W^3(1), are each viable dark matter candidates. In either case, such particles are predicted to accumulate in the core of the Sun, where they annihilate to generate a potentially observable flux of high energy neutrinos. In this article, we calculate the flux of neutrinos produced in this model and determine the constraints that can be placed on the UED parameter space from current IceCube data. For the case of B^(1) dar…
We extend the Standard Model by adding two gauge-singlet $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$% -symmetric scalar fields that interact with visible matter only through the Higgs particle. One is a stable dark matter WIMP, and the other one undergoes a spontaneous breaking of the symmetry that opens new channels for the dark matter annihilation, hence lowering the mass of the WIMP. We study the effects of the observed dark matter relic abundance on the annihilation cross section and find that in most regions of the parameters space, light dark matter is viable. We also compare the elastic scattering cross-section o…
We point out that annihilation of dark matter in the galactic halo can be enhanced relative to that in the early universe due to a Breit-Wigner tail, if the dark matter annihilates through a pole just below the threshold. This provides a new explanation to the "boost factor" which is suggested by the recent data of the PAMELA, ATIC and PPB-BETS cosmic-ray experiments.
Thermal production of light dark matter with sub-GeV scale mass can be attributed to $3\rightarrow 2$ self-annihilation processes. We consider the thermal average for annihilation cross sections of dark matter at $3\rightarrow 2$ and general higher-order interactions. A correct thermal average for initial dark matter particles is important, in particular, for annihilation cross sections with overall velocity dependence and/or resonance poles. We apply our general results to benchmark models for SIMP dark matter and discuss the effects of the resonance pole in determining the relic density.
$P$-wave coupled channel effects arising from the $D\bar{D}$, $D\bar{D}^*+c.c.$, and $D^*\bar{D}^*$ thresholds in $e^+e^-$ annihilations are systematically studied. We provide an exploratory study by solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with short-ranged contact potentials obtained in the heavy quark limit. These contact potentials can be extracted from the $P$-wave interactions in the $e^+e^-$ annihilations, and then be employed to investigate possible isosinglet $P$-wave hadronic molecules. In particular, such an investigation may provide information about exotic candidates with quantum n…
We study precise calculation of neutralino relic density in the minimal supergravity model. We compare the exact formula for the thermal average of the neutralino annihilation cross section times relative velocity with the expansion formula in terms of the temperature, including all the contributions to neutralino annihilation cross section analytically. We confirm that the expansion formula fails badly near s-channel poles. We show that the expansion method causes 5-10 % error even far away from the poles.
The Breit-Wigner enhancement of the thermally averaged annihilation cross section <σv> is shown to provide a large boost factor when the dark matter annihilation process nears a narrow resonance. We explicitly demonstrate the evolution behavior of the Breit-Wigner enhanced <σv> as the function of universe temperature for both the physical and unphysical pole cases. It is found that both of the cases can lead an enough large boost factor to explain the recent PAMELA, ATIC and PPB-BETS anomalies. We also calculate the coupling of annihilation process, which is useful for an appropriate model bui…
We study an extended B-L model, which has in its structure four neutral scalars. In this model, a representative set of parameters enable us to conclude that one of these scalars is a promising candidate for low-mass dark matter. We introduce an Z_2 symmetry, which ensure the stability of the dark matter. The dominant annihilation process will be through $s$-channel exchange of a scalar in $b\overline{b}$. So, this is also a Higgs portal dark matter model, but the Higgs decay to dark matter is suppressed and meets the constraints from invisible decays of Higgs boson. The model is also in agree…
We consider a new mechanism for enhancing the self-scattering and annihilation cross sections for dark matter with multiple components but without a light mediator. The lighter dark matter component plays a role of the $u$-channel pole in the elastic co-scattering for dark matter, leading to a large self-scattering cross section and a Sommerfeld enhancement for semi-annihilation processes. Taking the effective theory approach for self-resonant dark matter, we present various combinations of multiple dark matter components with spins and parities, showing a $u$-channel pole in the co-scattering…
Constraints on dark matter from the first CMS and ATLAS SUSY searches are investigated. It is shown that within the minimal supergravity model, the early search for supersymmetry at the LHC has depleted a large portion of the signature space in dark matter direct detection experiments. In particular, the prospects for detecting signals of dark matter in the XENON and CDMS experiments are significantly affected in the low neutralino mass region. Here the relic density of dark matter typically arises from slepton coannihilations in the early universe. In contrast, it is found that the CMS and AT…
We consider the hypothesis that Dark Matter (DM) has tree-level interactions only with leptons. Such a framework, where DM recoils against electrons bound in atoms, has been proposed as an explanation for the annually modulated scintillation signal in DAMA/LIBRA versus the absence of a signal for nuclear recoils in experiments like CDMS or XENON10. However, even in such a leptophilic DM scenario there are loop induced DM-hadron interactions, where the photons emitted from virtual leptons couple to the charge of a nucleus. Using a general effective field theory approach we show that, if such an…
The light scalar nonets are studied using the QCD sum rules for the tetraquark operators. The operator product expansion for the correlators is calculated up to dimension 12 and this enables us to perform analyses retaining sufficient pole-dominance. To classify the light scalar nonets, we investigate the dependence on current quark mass and flavor dynamics. Especially, to examine the latter, we study separately SU(3) singlet and octet states, and show that the number of annihilation diagrams is largely responsible for their differences, which is also the case even after the inclusion of the f…
Updated constraints on dark matter cross section and mass are presented combining CMB power spectrum measurements from Planck, WMAP9, ACT, and SPT as well as several low-redshift datasets (BAO, HST, supernovae). For the CMB datasets, we combine WMAP9 temperature and polarization data for l <= 431 with Planck temperature data for 432 < l < 2500, ACT and SPT data for l > 2500, and Planck CMB four-point lensing measurements. We allow for redshift-dependent energy deposition from dark matter annihilation by using a `universal' energy absorption curve. We also include an updated treatment of the ex…
We give a review on the thermal average of the annihilation cross-sections for $3\rightarrow 2$ and general higher-order processes. Thermal average of higher order annihilations highly depend on the velocity of dark matter, especially, for the case with resonance poles. We show such examples for scalar dark matter in gauged $Z_3$ models.
Dark matter particles in the galactic halo can scatter off particles in celestial bodies such as stars or planets, lose energy and become gravitationally trapped. In this process, an accumulation of dark matter in the center of celestial bodies is expected, for example, at the center of the Earth. If dark matter self-annihilates into Standard Model particles, the end products of these annihilations include neutrinos. The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the geographic South Pole can detect the resulting flux of neutrinos originating from dark matter annihilation in the center of the Earth. A se…
Dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles is predicted to become gravitationally captured and accumulate in stars. While the subsequent annihilations of such particles lead to the injection of energy into stellar cores, elastically scattering dark matter particles do not generally yield enough energy to observably impact stellar phenomenology. Dark matter particles which scatter inelastically with nuclei (such that they reconcile the annual modulation reported by DAMA with the null results of CDMS and other experiments), however, can be captured by and annihilate in compa…
We present a hidden Abelian extension of the Standard Model including a complex scalar as a dark matter candidate and a light scalar acting as a long range force carrier between dark matter particles. The Sommerfeld enhanced annihilation cross-section of the dark matter explains the observed cosmic ray excesses. The light scalar field also gives rise to potentially large cross-sections of dark matter on nucleon, therefore providing an interesting way to probe this model simultaneously at direct and indirect dark matter search experiments. We constrain the parameter-space of the model by taking…
We examine the prospects for the detection of Higgs mediated lepton flavor violation at LHC and at a photon collider in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with large lepton flavor violating mass insertions in the $μ-τ$ sector constraining the parameter space with several experimental bounds. We find rates probably too small to be observed at future experiments if models have to accommodate for a neutralino relic density as measured by WMAP and explain the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly: better prospects are found if these two constraints are applied only as upper bounds. The spin-independent neutral…
The CoGeNT experiment, dedicated to direct detection of dark matter, has recently released excess events that could be interpreted as elastic collisions of $\sim$10 GeV dark matter particles, which might simultaneously explain the still mysterious DAMA/LIBRA modulation signals, while in conflict with results from other experiments such as CDMS, XENON-100 and SIMPLE. It was shown that 5-15 GeV singlino-like dark matter candidates arising in singlet extensions of minimal supersymmetric scenarios can fit these data; annihilation then mostly proceeds into light singlet-dominated Higgs (pseudo)scal…
The recently completed calculation of the full electroweak O(alpha) corrections to the charged-current four-fermion production processes e+e- --> nu_tau tau+ mu- anti-nu_mu, u anti-d mu- anti-nu_mu, and u anti-d s anti-c is briefly reviewed. The calculation is performed using complex gauge-boson masses, supplemented by complex couplings to restore gauge invariance. The evaluation of the occurring one-loop tensor integrals, which include 5- and 6-point functions, requires new techniques. The effects of the complete O(alpha) corrections to the total cross section and to some differential cross s…
The cross-section for the production of $b{\bar b} c{\bar c}$ quarks in $e^+e^-$ annihilation, that proves to be at a level of $σ(e^+e^- \rightarrow b{\bar b} c{\bar c})/ σ(e^+e^- \rightarrow b{\bar b}) \sim 10^{-2}$ for ${\sqrt s}=M_Z$ is calculated within the frames of the QCD perturbation theory. The cross sections for the associated production of $1S$- and $2S$-wave states of $B_c$-meson in the reaction $e^+e^- \rightarrow B_c b{\bar c}$ were calculated in the nonrelativistic model of a heavy quarkonium. The fragmentation function of $b\to B_c^{(*)}$ is analysed in the scaling limit. The n…
If dark matter (DM) has non-zero direct or transition, electric or magnetic dipole moment then it can scatter nucleons electromagnetically in direct detection experiments. Using the results from experiments like XENON, CDMS, DAMA and COGENT we put bounds on the electric and magnetic dipole moments of DM. If DM consists of Dirac fermions with direct dipole moments, then DM of mass less than 10 GeV is consistent with the DAMA signal and with null results of other experiments. If on the other hand DM consists of Majorana fermions then they can have only non-zero transition moments between differe…
The most natural region of cosmologically compatible dark matter relic density in terms of low fine-tuning in a minimal supersymmetric standard model with nonuniversal gaugino masses is the so called bulk annihilation region. We study this region in a simple and predictive SUSY-GUT model of nonuniversal gaugino masses, where the latter transform as a combination of singlet plus a nonsinglet representation of the GUT group SU(5). The model prediction for the direct dark matter detection rates is well below the present CDMS and XENON100 limits, but within the reach of a future 1Ton XENON experim…
We present next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) quantum electrodynamics (QED) corrections to the production of the Higgs boson in bottom quark annihilation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the five flavor scheme. We have systematically included the NNLO corrections resulting from the interference of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and QED interactions. We have investigated the infrared (IR) structure of the bottom quark form factor up to two loop level in QED and in QCD$\times$QED using K+G equation. We find that the IR poles in the form factor are controlled by the universal cusp, collinear…
The requirement that the lightest neutralino $\tildeχ_1^0$ has the right thermal relic density to explain all Dark Matter in the universe strongly constrains the parameter space of supersymmetric models in general, and of the mSUGRA model in particular. Recently improved calculations of the mass of the light CP-even Higgs boson $h$ present in this model, and the increased central value of the mass of the top quark, have re--opened the possibility that $2 \mlsp \lsim m_h$. In this ``$h-$pole region'' the LSP annihilation cross section is enhanced by near-resonant $h$ exchange in the $s-$channel…
We make a detailed analysis of the indirect diffuse gamma-ray signals from dark matter annihilation in the Galaxy. We include the prompt emission, as well as the emission from inverse Compton scattering whenever the annihilation products contain light leptons. We consider both the contribution from the smooth dark matter halo and that from substructures. The main parameters for the latter are the mass function index and the minimal subhalo mass. We use recent results from N-body simulations to set the most reasonable range of parameters, and find that the signal can be boosted by a factor rang…
Recently, the DAMA/LIBRA collaboration has repeated and reinforced their claim to have detected an annual modulation in their signal rate, and have interpreted this observation as evidence for dark-matter particles at the 8.2 sigma confidence level. Furthermore, it has also been noted that the effects of channeling may enable a WIMP that scatters elastically via spin-independent interactions from nuclei to produce the signal observed by DAMA/LIBRA without exceeding the limits placed by CDMS, XENON, CRESST, CoGeNT and other direct-detection experiments. To accommodate this signal, however, the …
Very light right-handed (RH) sneutrinos in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model can be viable candidates for cold dark matter. We investigate the prospects for their direct detection, addressing their compatibility with the recent signal observed by the CoGeNT detector, and study the implications for Higgs phenomenology. We find that in order to reproduce the correct relic abundance very light RH sneutrinos can annihilate into either a fermion-antifermion pair, very light pseudoscalar Higgses or RH neutrinos. If the main annihilation channel is into fermions, we point out that RH …
Recent measurements performed with some direct dark matter detection experiments, e.g. CDMS-II and CoGENT (after DAMA/LIBRA), have unveiled a few events compatible with weakly interacting massive particles. The preferred mass range is around 10 GeV, with a quite large spin-independent cross section of $10^{-43}$-$10^{-41}\,{\rm cm^2}$. In this paper, we recall that a light dark matter particle with dominant couplings to quarks should also generate cosmic-ray antiprotons. Taking advantage of recent works constraining the Galactic dark matter mass profile on the one hand and on cosmic-ray propag…
We calculate the relic density ($Ω_{χ^0_1} h^2$) of neutralino dark matter in supergravity models with radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, for values of the Higgs sector parameter $\tanβ\equiv v_2/v_1$ between the two infrared fixed points of the top quark Yukawa coupling, $\tanβ\simeq 1.8$ and $\tanβ\simeq 56$. For $\tanβ\alt 10$, the CP-odd Higgs pseudoscalar ($A^0$) and the heavier CP-even Higgs scalar ($H^0$) are much heavier than the lightest neutralino ($χ^0_1$), and the annihilation cross section of $χ^0_1$ pairs is significantly enhanced only in the vicinity of the lighter CP-even…
We describe the gauge-invariant treatment of the finite-width effects of W and Z bosons in the fermion-loop scheme and its application to the six-fermion (LEP2) processes e^- e^+ -> four fermions, with massless external fermions. The fermion-loop scheme consists in including all fermionic one-loop corrections in tree-level amplitudes and resumming the self-energies. We give explicit results for the unrenormalized fermionic one-loop contributions to the gauge-boson self-energies and the triple gauge-boson vertices, and perform the renormalization in a gauge-invariant way by introducing complex …
The cosmic-ray (CR) $e^\pm$ excess observed by AMS-02 can be explained by dark matter (DM) annihilation. However, the DM explanation requires a large annihilation cross section which is strongly disfavored by other observations, such as the Fermi-LAT gamma-ray observation of dwarf galaxies and the Planck observation of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Moreover, the DM annihilation cross section required by the CR $e^\pm$ excess is also too large to generate the correct DM relic density with thermal production. In this work we use the Breit-Wigner mechanism with a velocity dependent DM an…
We calculate the pair-annihilation cross section of real scalar singlet dark matter into two mono-energetic photons. We derive constraints on the theory parameter space from the Fermi limits on gamma-ray lines, and we compare with current limits from direct dark matter detection. We show that the new limits, albeit typically relevant only when the dark matter mass is close to half the Standard Model Higgs mass, rule out regions of the theory parameter space that are otherwise not constrained by other observations or experiments. In particular, the new excluded regions partly overlap with the p…
The general antiparticle spectrometer (GAPS) experiment is a proposed indirect dark matter search focusing on antiparticles produced by WIMP (weakly interacting massive particle) annihilation and decay in the Galactic halo. In addition to the very powerful search channel provided by antideuterons, GAPS has a strong capability to measure low-energy antiprotons (0.07 $\le$ E $\le$ 0.25 GeV) as dark matter signatures. This is an especially effective means for probing light dark matter, whose existence has been hinted at in the direct dark matter searches, including the recent result from the CDMS…
In this paper, we study the recent excess of low energy events observed by the CoGeNT collaboration, and discuss the possibility that these events originate from the elastic scattering of a light (m_DM ~ 5-10 GeV) dark matter particle. We find that such a dark matter candidate may also be capable of generating the annual modulation reported by DAMA, as well as the small excess recently reported by CDMS, without conflicting with the null results from other experiments, such as XENON10. A dark matter interpretation of the CoGeNT and DAMA observations favors a region of parameter space that is es…
In this note we briefly review the recent studies of dark matter in the MSSM and its singlet extensions: the NMSSM, the nMSSM, and the general singlet extension. Under the new detection results of CDMS II, XENON, CoGeNT and PAMELA, we find that (i) the latest detection results can exclude a large part of the parameter space which allowed by current collider constraints in these models. The future SuperCDMS and XENON can cover most of the allowed parameter space; (ii) the singlet sector will decouple from the MSSM-like sector in the NMSSM, however, singlet sector makes the nMSSM quite different…
Direct detection dark matter experiments, lead by the CDMS collaboration, have placed increasingly stronger constraints on the cross sections for elastic scattering of WIMPs on nucleons. These results impact the prospects for the indirect detection of dark matter using neutrino telescopes. With this in mind, we revisit the prospects for detecting neutrinos produced by the annihilation of WIMPs in the Sun. We find that the latest bounds do not seriously limit the models most accessible to next generation kilometer-scale neutrino telescopes such as IceCube. This is largely due to the fact that m…
We study a fermionic dark matter in a non-supersymmetric extension of the standard model with a family symmetry based on D6xZ2xZ2. In our model, the final state of the dark matter annihilation is determined to be e+ e- by the flavor symmetry, which is consistent with the PAMELA result. At first, we show that our dark matter mass should be within the range of 230 GeV - 750 GeV in the WMAP analysis combined with mu to e gamma constraint. Moreover we simultaneously explain the experiments of direct and indirect detection, by simply adding a gauge and D6 singlet real scalar field. In the direct de…
With the solar and SN87 neutrino observations as proofs of concepts, the kilometer-scale neutrino experiment IceCube will scrutinize its data for new particle physics. In this paper we review the prospects for the realization of such a program. We begin with a short overview of the detector response and discuss the reach of ``beam'' luminosity. After that we discuss the potential of IceCube to probe deviations of neutrino-nucleon cross sections from the Standard Model predictions at center-of-mass energies well beyond those accessible in man-made accelerators. Then we review the prospects for …
