In models with one universal extra dimension (UED), the first Kaluza-Klein excitations of the hypercharge gauge boson, B^(1), and the neutral component of isospin gauge boson, W^3(1), are each viable dark matter candidates. In either case, such particles are predicted to accumulate in the core of the Sun, where they annihilate to generate a potentially observable flux of high energy neutrinos. In this article, we calculate the flux of neutrinos produced in this model and determine the constraints that can be placed on the UED parameter space from current IceCube data. For the case of B^(1) dark matter, we find that the present limits from IceCube are stronger than those from direct dark matter detection experiments such as CDMS and XENON10. For W^3(1) dark matter, the present IceCube data provides a constraint slightly weaker than direct detection experiments. In addition, we also present the projected regions of UED parameter space that can be probed by IceCube/DeepCore in the near future and compare them to the prospects for future direct detection experiments.
In a minimal model of universal extra dimensions the lightest Kalzua-Klein particle is neutral and stable because of Kaluza-Klein parity conservation and it is a dark matter candidate. The corresponding level 2 mode of the lightest Kaluza-Klein particle can be detected via KK number violating decays to Standard Model particles. The expected sensitivity to second level Kaluza-Klein modes of neutral gauge bosons at the ILC is studied.
We review the possibilities that the Kaluza-Klein excitations of graviton states induce electroweak symmetry breaking and that electroweak symmetry breaking could have a large impact on KK phenomenology.
We consider Kaluza-Klein dark matter from deconstructed or latticized universal extra dimensions and study in this model the positron flux from Kaluza-Klein dark matter annihilation in the galactic halo.
We investigate the discovery potential of Kaluza-Klein gluons as a dijet resonance at hadron colliders with different center-of-mass energies, from 14 TeV to 33 TeV to 100 TeV. We also present the current bounds from dijet searches at UA2, Tevatron, and LHC.
We give a brief review of some aspects of physics with TeV size extra-dimensions. We focus on a minimal model with matter localized at the boundaries for the study of the production of Kaluza-Klein excitations of gauge bosons. We briefly discuss different ways to depart from this simple analysis.
Kaluza-Klein photon in universal extra dimension models is one of the most attractive dark matter candidates as a weakly interacting massive particle. Having a characteristic split spectrum in split universal extra dimension the relic density of Kaluza-Klein photon with 900 GeV mass is in good agreement with the observed dark matter amount in our Universe. Interestingly Kaluza-Klein photon in the same mass range also provides excellent fits to the recently observed excesses in cosmic electron and positron fluxes. The amount of gamma-ray contributions, mostly from tau decays, can be significant…
An experimental search for signatures of Kaluza-Klein graviton states at the 500 GeV e+e- linear collider, in which the graviton states are produced in association with a photon, is presented. The study of the signal extraction is performed with the help of Monte Carlo simulations
The dynamical fermion mass generation in the 4-dimensional brane is discussed in a model with 5-dimensional Kaluza-Klein fermions in interaction with 4-dimensional fermions. It is found that the dynamical fermion masses are generated beyond the critical radius of the compactified extra dimensional space and may be made small compared with masses of the Kaluza-Klein modes.
The transition from formulations with extra dimensions to Kaluza-Klein theories, aimed at extending the Standard Model, bears the ingredients of hidden symmetries and the Kaluza-Klein mechanism for mass generation. We explore these essential aspects in detail, and find that much can be said about them with no reference to the specific geometry of compact extra dimensions: the low-energy theory is determined, included dynamic variables and symmetries; mass terms arise; eigenfunctions that define Kaluza-Klein fields are fixed by the appropriate choice a Casimir invariant; there is a set of Kaluz…
In higher dimensional models where the gauge and gravity fields live in the bulk and the matter fields only in a brane, we point out the importance of the brane (transverse) coordinate modes, which are the Nambu-Goldstone bosons appearing as a result of spontaneous breaking of the translation symmetry. The brane recoil effect suppresses the couplings of higher Kaluza-Klein modes to the matter, and gives a natural resolution to the divergence problem caused by the exchange of infinitely many Kaluza-Klein modes.
An analysis of the effects associated with the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the photon and of the W and Z bosons on g_μ-2 for d number of extra dimensions with large radius compactifications is given. The Kaluza-Klein effects on g_μ-2 are found to be very sensitive to the number of extra dimensions. For models where the quark-lepton generations live on the 4D wall, it is shown that when the constraints from the Kaluza-Klein corrections to the Fermi constant are included, the effects of the Kaluza-Klein excitations to g_μ-2 become too small to be observable. A model which evades Kaluza-Klein cor…
We explore the possibility that the Kaluza-Klein graviton states induce electroweak symmetry breaking. We also demonstrate that electroweak symmetry breaking could have a large impact on KK phenomenology.
We discuss the possibility of intermediate gauge coupling unification in unified models of string origin. Useful relations of the β-function coefficients are derived, which ensure unification of couplings when Kaluza--Klein excitations are included above the compactification scale. We apply this procedure to two models with SU(3)\times SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R and SU(4)\times O(4) gauge symmetries.
In this note we present additional arguments in favour of Kaluza and Klein picture of the world. In fact, we show that formula (\ref{KK3pi}) provided by Kaluza-Klein approach with the fundamental scale early calculated \cite{1} gives an excellent description for the mass spectrum of three-pion system.
Recently five dimensional supersymmetric models with a Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking and a localized superpotential on a fixed-point have been constructed to yield a definite prediction for the Higgs mass. We examine this issue in detail and show that the finite one loop correction and the definite prediction for the Higgs mass are just a consequence of a special "Kaluza-Klein regularization" scheme.
We point out geometric upper and lower bounds on the masses of bosonic and fermionic Kaluza-Klein excitations in the context of theories with large extra dimensions. The characteristic compactification length scale is set by the diameter of the internal manifold. Based on geometrical and topological considerations, we find that certain choices of compactification manifolds are more favoured for phenomenological purposes.
In the universal extra dimensions models, Kaluza Klein excitations of matter are generaly produced in pairs. However, if matter lives on a fat brane embedded in a larger space, gravity-matter interactions do not obey KK number conservation, thus making possible the production of single KK excitations at colliders. We evaluate the production rates for such excitations at the Tevatron and LHC colliders, and look for ways to detect them.
We review the capability of $e^+e^-$ and $e^-e^-$ colliders to detect the virtual exchange of Kaluza-Klein towers of gravitons within the large extra dimension scenario of Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos and Dvali and in the localized gravity model of Randall and Sundrum with non-factorizable geometry.
We consider the Newton's force law for brane world consisting of periodic configuration of branes. We show that it supports a massless graviton. Furthermore, this massless mode is well separated from the Kaluza-Klein spectrum by a mass gap. Thus most of the problems in phenomenology coming from continuum of Kaluza-Klein modes without mass gap are potentially cured in such a model.
In this note we present additional arguments in favour of Kaluza and Klein picture of the world. We show that geniusly simple formula provided by Kaluza-Klein approach gives an excellent description for the mass spectrum of two-nucleon system. It has also been established that the experimental data obtained at low energies where the nucleon-nucleon dynamics has been studied reveal a special sort of (super)symmetry between fermionic (dibaryon) and bosonic states predicted by Kaluza-Klein scenario.
We consider the lightest Kaluza-Klein particle at N=1 mode (LKP) of universal extra dimension to be the candidate for Dark Matter and predict the detection rates for such particles for Germenium and NaI detectors. We have also calculated the nature of annual modulation for the signals in these two types of detectors for LKP Dark Matter. The rates with different values of speed of solar system in the Galactic rest frame are also evaluated.
We propose that cold dark matter is made of Kaluza-Klein particles and explore avenues for its detection. The lightest Kaluza-Klein state is an excellent dark matter candidate if standard model particles propagate in extra dimensions and Kaluza-Klein parity is conserved. We consider Kaluza-Klein gauge bosons. In sharp contrast to the case of supersymmetric dark matter, these annihilate to hard positrons, neutrinos and photons with unsuppressed rates. Direct detection signals are also promising. These conclusions are generic to bosonic dark matter candidates.
Kaluza--Klein compactification in quantum field theory is analysed from the perturbation theory viewpoint. Renormalisation group analysis for compactification size dependence of the coupling constant is proposed.
Kaluza-Klein modes of fermions in a 5-dimensional toy model are considered. The number of Kaluza-Klein modes that survive after integration over extra dimensions is finite in this space. Moreover the extra dimensional piece of the kinetic term induces no mass for the higher Kaluza-Klein modes on contrary to the standard lore.
Several ways of computing the radiative corrections to the heavy boson masses in Kaluza-Klein theory are discussed. It is argued that only an intrinsically higher dimensional approach embodies all the desired physical properties.
We study the so-called ``Kaluza-Klein regularization''. We calculate one-loop corrections to the Higgs mass due to Kaluza-Klein modes explicitly in a model with SUSY breaking mass splitting between bosonic and fermionic modes. We perform the proper time cutoff at $1/Λ^2$ and the KK level truncation at $\ell$. It is shown that the finite result is obtained as long as $\ell \gg RΛ$ for the compactification radius $R$.
Effective field theories with (large) extra dimensions are studied within a physical regularization scheme provided by string theory. Explicit string calculations then allow us to consistently analyze the ultraviolet sensitivity of Kaluza--Klein theories in the presence or absence of low energy supersymmetry.
In this note we present additional arguments in favour of Kaluza and Klein picture of the world. In fact, we have shown that formula (\ref{KKpi}) provided by Kaluza-Klein approach with the fundamental scale early calculated (Eq.\ref{scale} \cite{1}) gives an excellent description for the mass spectrum of two-pion system.
In this talk, we discuss the potential for the indirect detection of Kaluza-Klein dark matter using neutrino telescopes and cosmic positron experiments. We find that future kilometer-scale neutrino telescopes, such as IceCube, as well as future experiments capable of measuring the cosmic positron spectrum, such as PAMELA and AMS-02, will be quite sensitive to this scenario. Current data from the HEAT experiment can also be explained by the presence of Kaluza-Klein dark matter in the Galactic halo.
We present some arguments in favour of that the Kaluza-Klein picture of the world has been confirmed in the experiments at very low energies where the nucleon-nucleon dynamics has been studied. Early predicted ${\cal L}$-particle is related to the new scale of strong nucleon-nucleon forces in the spirit of Kaluza-Klein approach. It is shown that KK excitations remarkably describe the experimentally observed mass spectrum of diproton system.
A formalization of the recently introduced formalism for inflation is developed from noncompact Kaluza-Klein theory. In particular, the case for a single scalar field inflationary model is studied. We obtain that the scalar potential, which assume different representations in different frames, has a geometrical origin.
When closed strings propagate in extra compactified dimensions, a rich spectrum of Kaluza-Klein states and winding states emerges. Since the masses of Kaluza-Klein states and winding states play a reciprocal role, it is often believed that either the lightest Kaluza-Klein states or the lightest winding states must be at or below the string scale. In this paper, we demonstrate that this conclusion is no longer true for compactifications with non-trivial shape moduli. Specifically, we demonstrate that toroidal compactifications exist for which all Kaluza-Klein states as well as all winding state…
We have performed an analysis of experimental data on mass spectrum of the resonance states containing strange mesons and compared them with the calculated values provided by Kaluza-Klein scenario. In this note we present the results of this analysis.
We identify the goldstino fields that give mass to the Kaluza Klein modes of five dimensional supergravity, when supersymmetry breaking is induced by brane effects. We then proof the four dimensional Equivalence Theorem that, in renormalizable gauges, allows for the replacement of Kaluza Klein modes of helicity $\pm1/2$ gravitinos in terms of goldstinos. Finally we identify the five dimensional renormalizable gauge fixing that leads to the Equivalence Theorem.
A manifestation of Kaluza-Klein picture in hadron spectra is discussed. It is argued that the experimentally observed structures in hadron spectra confirm the Kaluza-Klein picture of the world.
We discuss nonminimal couplings of fermions to the electromagnetic field, which generically appear in models with extra dimensions. We consider models where the electromagnetic field is generated by the Kaluza-Klein mechanism. The nonminimal couplings contribute at tree-level to anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of fermions. We use recent measurements of these quantities to put limits on the parameters of models with extra dimensions.
The excess of cosmic positrons observed by the HEAT experiment may be the result of Kaluza-Klein dark matter annihilating in the galactic halo. Kaluza-Klein dark matter annihilates dominantly into charged leptons that yield a large number and hard spectrum of positrons per annihilation. Given a Kaluza-Klein dark matter particle with a mass in the range of 300-400 GeV, no exceptional substructure or clumping is needed in the local distribution of dark matter to generate a positron flux that explains the HEAT observations. This is in contrast to supersymmetric dark matter that requires unnatural…
In the present paper, we continue our study the structure of hadronic spectra, started in Refs. \cite{1,2,3,4,5}, from the view point of existence the extra dimensions in the spirit of Kaluza-Klein approach. We show that all charmed and charmed-strange mesons, including the recently observed new states \cite{7,8}, are excellently incorporated in the systematics provided by Kaluza-Klein approach.
We investigate the spectroscopy of scalar and vector Kaluza-Klein modes that arise in a deformed Randall-Sundrum model that is constructed from Brans-Dicke theory. The non-minimal coupling in the Brans Dicke theory translates into a deformation of the Randall-Sundrum geometry that depends on the Brans-Dicke parameter $ω$. We find that the $ω$ parameter has a non-trivial effect in the spectroscopy of scalar and vector Kaluza-Klein modes. Our results suggest the interpretation of $ω$ as a fine-tuning parameter.
Extra dimensions offer new ways to address long-standing problems in beyond the standard model particle physics. In some classes of extra-dimensional models, the lightest Kaluza-Klein particle is a viable dark matter candidate. In this work, we study indirect detection of Kaluza-Klein dark matter via its annihilation into antiprotons. We use a sophisticated galactic cosmic ray diffusion model whose parameters are fully constrained by an extensive set of experimental data. We discuss how fluxes of cosmic antiprotons can be used to exclude low Kaluza-Klein masses.
Spectra of glueball masses in non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in three and four dimensions have recently been computed using the conjectured duality between superstring theory and large N gauge theory. The Kaluza-Klein states of supergravity do not correspond to any states in the Yang-Mills theory and therefore should decouple in the continuum limit. On the other hand, in the supergravity limit g_{YM}^2 N -> \infty, we find that the masses of the Kaluza-Klein states are comparable to those of the glueballs. We also show that the leading (g_{YM}^2N)^{-1} corrections do not make these state…
Warped compactifications of type IIB string theory contain natural dark matter candidates: Kaluza-Klein modes along approximate isometry directions of long warped throats. These isometries are broken by the full compactification, including moduli stabilization; we present a thorough survey of Kaluza-Klein mode decay rates into light supergravity modes and Standard Model particles. We find that these dark matter candidates typically have lifetimes longer than the age of the universe. Interestingly, some choices for embedding the Standard Model in the compactification lead to decay rates large e…
Using a recently introduced formalism we discuss slow-roll inflaton from Kaluza-Klein theory without the cylinder condition. In particular, some examples corresponding to polynomic and hyperbolic $ϕ$-potentials are studied. We find that the evolution of the fifth coordinate should be determinant for both, the evolution of the early inflationary universe and the quantum fluctuations.
In Kaluza-Klein theories of low-scale quantum gravity, gravitons and isosinglet neutrinos may propagate in a higher-dimensional space with large compact dimensions, whereas all particles of the Standard Model are confined on a (1+3)-dimensional subspace. After compactification of the extra dimensions, the resulting Yukawa couplings of the Kaluza-Klein neutrinos to the lepton doublets become naturally very suppressed by a higher-dimensional volume factor, in agreement with phenomenological observations. We show that one-loop effects induced by Kaluza-Klein neutrinos, albeit tiny individually, a…
