Justification logics are epistemic logics that explicitly include justifications for the agents' knowledge. We develop a multi-agent justification logic with evidence terms for individual agents as well as for common knowledge. We define a Kripke-style semantics that is similar to Fitting's semantics for the Logic of Proofs LP. We show the soundness, completeness, and finite model property of our multi-agent justification logic with respect to this Kripke-style semantics. We demonstrate that our logic is a conservative extension of Yavorskaya's minimal bimodal explicit evidence logic, which is a two-agent version of LP. We discuss the relationship of our logic to the multi-agent modal logic S4 with common knowledge. Finally, we give a brief analysis of the coordinated attack problem in the newly developed language of our logic.
Existing logical models do not fairly represent epistemic situations with fallible justifications, e.g., Russell's Prime Minister example, though such scenarios have long been at the center of epistemic studies. We introduce justification epistemic models, JEM, which can handle such scenarios. JEM makes justifications prime objects and draws a distinction between accepted and knowledge-producing justifications; belief and knowledge become derived notions. Furthermore, Kripke models can be viewed as special cases of JEMs with additional assumptions of evidence insensitivity and common knowledge…

This paper establishes a dual theory about knowledge and argumentation. Our idea is rooted at both epistemic logic and argumentation theory, and we aim to merge these two fields, not just in a superficial way but to thoroughly disclose the intrinsic relevance between knowledge and argumentation. Specifically, we define epistemic Kripke models and argument Kripke models as a dual pair, and then work out a two-way generation method between these two types of Kripke models. Such generation is rigorously justified by a duality theorem on modal formulae's invariance. We also provide realistic examp…
Justification logics are modal-like logics with the additional capability of recording the reason, or justification, for modalities in syntactic structures, called justification terms. Justification logics can be seen as explicit counterparts to modal logic. The behavior and interaction of agents in distributed system is often modeled using logics of knowledge and time. In this paper, we sketch some preliminary ideas on how the modal knowledge part of such logics of knowledge and time could be replaced with an appropriate justification logic.

We propose parametric constructive Kripke-semantics for multi-agent KD45-belief and S5-knowledge in terms of elementary set-theoretic constructions of two basic functional building blocks, namely bias (or viewpoint) and visibility, functioning also as the parameters of the doxastic and epistemic accessibility relation. The doxastic accessibility relates two possible worlds whenever the application of the composition of bias with visibility to the first world is equal to the application of visibility to the second world. The epistemic accessibility is the transitive closure of the union of our …
The Perfectly Transparent Equilibrium is algorithmically defined, for any game in normal form with perfect information and no ties, as the iterated deletion of non-individually-rational strategy profiles until at most one remains. In this paper, we characterize the Perfectly Transparent Equilibrium with adapted Kripke models having necessary rationality, necessary knowledge of strategies as well as eventual logical omniscience. Eventual logical omniscience is introduced as a weaker version of perfect logical omniscience, with logical omniscience being quantized and fading away counterfactually…

A social network service is a platform to build social relations among people sharing similar interests and activities. The underlying structure of a social networks service is the social graph, where nodes represent users and the arcs represent the users' social links and other kind of connections. One important concern in social networks is privacy: what others are (not) allowed to know about us. The "logic of knowledge" (epistemic logic) is thus a good formalism to define, and reason about, privacy policies. In this paper we consider the problem of verifying knowledge properties over social…

The literature on awareness modeling includes both syntax-free and syntax-based frameworks. Heifetz, Meier \& Schipper (HMS) propose a lattice model of awareness that is syntax-free. While their lattice approach is elegant and intuitive, it precludes the simple option of relying on formal language to induce lattices, and does not explicitly distinguish uncertainty from unawareness. Contra this, the most prominent syntax-based solution, the Fagin-Halpern (FH) model, accounts for this distinction and offers a simple representation of awareness, but lacks the intuitiveness of the lattice structur…
A natural way to represent beliefs and the process of updating beliefs is presented by Bayesian probability theory, where belief of an agent a in P can be interpreted as a considering that P is more probable than not P. This paper attempts to get at the core logical notion underlying this. The paper presents a sound and complete neighbourhood logic for conditional belief and knowledge, and traces the connections with probabilistic logics of belief and knowledge. The key notion in this paper is that of an agent a believing P conditionally on having information Q, where it is assumed that Q is c…

The logics of knowledge are modal logics that have been shown to be effective in representing and reasoning about knowledge in multi-agent domains. Relatively few computational frameworks for dealing with computation of models and useful transformations in logics of knowledge (e.g., to support multi-agent planning with knowledge actions and degrees of visibility) have been proposed. This paper explores the use of logic programming (LP) to encode interesting forms of logics of knowledge and compute Kripke models. The LP modeling is expanded with useful operators on Kripke structures, to support…
We present Dynamic Epistemic Temporal Logic, a framework for reasoning about operations on multi-agent Kripke models that contain a designated temporal relation. These operations are natural extensions of the well-known "action models" from Dynamic Epistemic Logic. Our "temporal action models" may be used to define a number of informational actions that can modify the "objective" temporal structure of a model along with the agents' basic and higher-order knowledge and beliefs about this structure, including their beliefs about the time. In essence, this approach provides one way to extend the …
We investigate multi-agent epistemic modal logic with common knowledge modalities for groups of agents and obtain van Benthem style model-theoretic characterisations, in terms of bisimulation invariance of classical first-order logic over the non-elementary classes of (finite or arbitrary) common knowledge Kripke frames. The technical challenges posed by the reachability and transitive closure features of the derived accessibility relations are dealt with through passage to (finite) bisimilar coverings of epistemic frames by Cayley graphs of permutation groups whose generators are associated w…
Recently there have been numerous proposed solutions to the problem of logical omniscience in doxastic and epistemic logic. Though these solutions display an impressive breadth of subtlety and motivation, the crux of these approaches seems to have a common theme-minor revisions around the ubiquitous Kripke semantics-rooted approach. In addition, the psychological mechanisms at work in and around both belief and knowledge have been left largely untouched. In this paper, we cut straight to the core of the problem of logical omniscience, taking a psychologically-rooted approach, taking as bedrock…
Is knowledge definable as justified true belief ("JTB")? We argue that one can legitimately answer positively or negatively, depending on whether or not one's true belief is justified by what we call adequate reasons. To facilitate our argument we introduce a simple propositional logic of reason-based belief, and give an axiomatic characterization of the notion of adequacy for reasons. We show that this logic is sufficiently flexible to accommodate various useful features, including quantification over reasons. We use our framework to contrast two notions of JTB: one internalist, the other ext…

Justification theory is a unifying framework for semantics of non-monotonic logics. It is built on the notion of a justification, which intuitively is a graph that explains the truth value of certain facts in a structure. Knowledge representation languages covered by justification theory include logic programs, argumentation frameworks, inductive definitions, and nested inductive and coinductive definitions. In addition, justifications are also used for implementation purposes. They are used to compute unfounded sets in modern ASP solvers, can be used to check for relevance of atoms in complet…

Our paper investigates the linear logic of knowledge and time LTK_r with reflexive intransitive time relation. The logic is defined semantically, -- as the set of formulas which are true at special frames with intransitive and reflexive time binary relation. The LTK_r -frames are linear chains of clusters connected by a reflexive intransitive relation $R_T$. Elements inside a cluster are connected by several equivalence relations imitating the knowledge of different agents. We study the decidability problem for formulas and inference rules. Decidability for formulas follows from decidability w…
Standard epistemic logic studies propositional knowledge, yet many other types of knowledge such as "knowing whether", "knowing what", "knowing how" are frequently and widely used in everyday life as well as academic fields. In "Conditionally Knowing What" by Wang and Fan, an axiomatization of the epistemic logic with both regular "knowing that" operator and "conditionally knowing what" operator is given. Then the decidability and complexity of this logic command our study. In this paper, we direct our attention to the arbitrary models instead of epistemic models, thus making things clearer, a…
Classical logics of knowledge and belief are usually interpreted on Kripke models, for which a mathematically well-developed model theory is available. However, such models are inadequate to capture dynamic phenomena. Therefore, epistemic plausibility models have been introduced. Because these are much richer structures than Kripke models, they do not straightforwardly inherit the model-theoretical results of modal logic. Therefore, while epistemic plausibility structures are well-suited for modeling purposes, an extensive investigation of their model theory has been lacking so far. The aim of…

We propose modal Markov logic as an extension of propositional Markov logic to reason under the principle of maximum entropy for modal logics K45, KD45, and S5. Analogous to propositional Markov logic, the knowledge base consists of weighted formulas, whose weights are learned from data. However, in contrast to Markov logic, in our framework we use the knowledge base to define a probability distribution over non-equivalent epistemic situations (pointed Kripke structures) rather than over atoms, and use this distribution to assign probabilities to modal formulas. As in all probabilistic represe…
Nonmonotonic logics are usually characterized by the presence of some notion of 'conditional' that fails monotonicity. Research on nonmonotonic logics is therefore largely concerned with the defeasibility of argument forms and the associated normality (or abnormality) of its constituents. In contrast, defeasible modes of inference aim to formalize the defeasible aspects of modal notions such as actions, obligations and knowledge. In this work we enrich the standard possible worlds semantics with a preference ordering on worlds in Kripke models. The resulting family of modal logics allow for th…
The semantic framework for the modal logic of knowledge due to Halpern and Moses provides a way to ascribe knowledge to agents in distributed and multi-agent systems. In this paper we study two special cases of this framework: full systems and hypercubes. Both model static situations in which no agent has any information about another agent's state. Full systems and hypercubes are an appropriate model for the initial configurations of many systems of interest. We establish a correspondence between full systems and hypercube systems and certain classes of Kripke frames. We show that these class…
Action models are semantic structures similar to Kripke models that represent a change in knowledge in an epistemic setting. Whereas the language of action model logic embeds the semantic structure of an action model directly within the language, this paper introduces a language that represents action models using syntactic operators inspired by relational actions. This language admits an intuitive description of the action models it represents, and we show in several settings that it is sufficient to represent any action model up to a given modal depth and to represent the results of action m…

In this paper, we investigate knowledge reasoning within a simple framework called knowledge structure. We use variable forgetting as a basic operation for one agent to reason about its own or other agents\ knowledge. In our framework, two notions namely agents\ observable variables and the weakest sufficient condition play important roles in knowledge reasoning. Given a background knowledge base and a set of observable variables for each agent, we show that the notion of an agent knowing a formula can be defined as a weakest sufficient condition of the formula under background knowledge base.…
The usual epistemic model S5n for a multi-agent system is based on a Kripke frame, which is a graph whose edges are labeled with agents that do not distinguish between two states. We propose to uncover the higher dimensional information implicit in this structure, by considering a dual, simplicial complex model. We use dynamic epistemic logic (DEL) to study how an epistemic simplicial complex model changes after a set of agents communicate with each other. We concentrate on an action model that represents the so called immediate snapshot communication patterns of asynchronous agents, because i…
