The inflationary paradigm enjoys a very wide acceptance in the cosmological community, due in large part to the fact that it is said to "naturally account" for a nearly scale independent power primordial spectrum of fluctuations which is in very good agreement with the observations. The expected overall scale of the fluctuations in most models, turns out to be too large, because it is inversely proportional to the slow roll parameter, which is expected to be very small. This fact requires the fine tuning of the inflaton potential. In series of recent works it has been argued that the success of the inflationary picture is not fully justified in terms of the rules of quantum theory as applied to the cosmological setting and that an extra element, something akin to a self induced collapse of the wave function is required. There, it was suggested that the incorporation of such collapse in the treatment might avoid the need for fine tuning of the potential that afflicts most inflationary models. In this article we will discuss in detail the manner in which one obtains the estimation of the magnitude of the perturbations in the new scheme and that of the standard accounts, comparing one of the most popular among the later and that corresponding to the new proposal. We will see that the proposal includes a collapse scheme that bypasses the problem, but we will see that the price seems to a be a teleological, and thus unphysical, fine tuning of the characteristics of collapse.
We examine the quantum loop effects on the single-field inflationary models in a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmological space-time with a general self-interacting scalar field potential, which is modeled in terms of the Hubble flow parameters in the effective field theory approach. In particular, we focus on the scenarios in both slow-roll to ultra-slow-roll (SR-USR) and SR-USR-SR inflation, in which it is shown that density perturbations originated from quantum vacuum fluctuations can be enhanced at small-scales, and then potentially collapse into primordial black holes …
In this study, we investigate the consequence of the constant-roll condition and examine the role of $f(Q,T)$ gravity in the cosmological inflation process. We analyze the inflationary scenario by calculating modified Friedmann equations, and giving an alternative technique that enables relating modified slow-roll parameters to the constant roll parameter $β$. Considering both chaotic and hilltop models, we calculate the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio and compare their compatibility with Planck's data for different choices of the constant roll parameter $β$. We examine the evolu…
The constant-roll inflation with small positive value of the constant-roll parameter $β\equiv \frac{\ddotϕ}{H\dotϕ}={\rm const.}$ has been known to produce a slightly red-tilted curvature power spectrum compatible with the current observational constraints. In this work, we shed light on the constant-roll inflation with negative $β$ and investigate how a stage of constant-roll inflation may realize the growth in the primordial curvature power spectrum necessary to produce a peaked spectrum of primordial black hole abundance. We first review the behavior of constant-roll models in the range of …
For primordial black holes (PBH) to be the dark matter in single-field inflation, the slow-roll approximation must be violated by at least ${\cal O}(1)$ in order to enhance the curvature power spectrum within the required number of efolds between CMB scales and PBH mass scales. Power spectrum predictions which rely on the inflaton remaining on the slow-roll attractor can fail dramatically leading to qualitatively incorrect conclusions in models like an inflection potential and misestimate the mass scale in a running mass model. We show that an optimized temporal evaluation of the Hubble slow-r…

We propose a new single field inflation model in which the usual slow-roll inflation is joined to a new period of slow-climb and slow-roll inflation through a short intermediate non-inflationary phase. We then show that primordial curvature perturbations can be enhanced at small scales, a sizable amount of primordial black holes (PBHs) can be produced which make up most of dark matter, the gravitational waves (GWs) induced by scalar metric perturbations that accompany with the formation of PBHs can be detectable by future GW experiments, and last but not least, our model is compatible with the…
The next generation of space-borne gravitational wave detectors may detect gravitational waves from extreme mass-ratio inspirals with primordial black holes. To produce primordial black holes which contribute a non-negligible abundance of dark matter and are consistent with the observations, a large enhancement in the primordial curvature power spectrum is needed. For a single field slow-roll inflation, the enhancement requires a very flat potential for the inflaton, and this will increase the number of $e$-folds. To avoid the problem, an ultra-slow-roll inflation at the near inflection point …
We consider the impact of quantum diffusion on inflationary dynamics during an ultra-slow-roll phase, which can be of particular significance for the formation of primordial black holes. We show, by means of a fully analytical approach, that the power spectrum of comoving curvature perturbations computed in stochastic inflation matches precisely, at the linear level, the result obtained by solving the Mukhanov-Sasaki equation, even in the presence of an ultra-slow-roll phase. We confirm this result numerically in a model in which the inflaton has a polynomial potential and is coupled quadratic…
We study a model of two-field ultra-slow-roll (USR) inflation bounded by a curve in the field space. Curvature perturbations and non-Gaussianities can be enhanced both during the USR phase and from the inhomogeneities at the boundary. We employ the full non-linear $δN$ formalism to calculate the probability distribution function (PDF) for curvature perturbation non-perturbatively and show that the non-linear effects can significantly enhance the abundance of the primordial black holes (PBHs). For large curvature perturbations, the PDF has a universal exponential tail, but for the intermediate …
Together with holonomy corrections, inverse volume terms should be taken into account when studying the primordial universe in loop quantum cosmology. We investigate how the tensor power spectrum is modified with respect to the standard general relativistic prediction by those semiclassical corrections. Depending on the values of the free parameters of the model, it is shown that the spectrum can exhibit a very large deviation from its usual shape, in particular with a very red slope and a strong running in the infrared limit.
This work is an analytical study of the main differences between classical inflationary effects of a fast-roll regime and imprints of hybrid Loop Quantum Cosmology (LQC) on the primordial power spectrum. Effective LQC solutions of phenomenological interest typically contain a classical period of kinetic dominance prior to slow-roll inflation, with consequences on the power spectrum that here we try and tell apart from those of phenomena occuring in the vicinity of a bounce in hybrid LQC. For this comparison, we use the same criterion for the choice of a vacuum state of the primordial perturbat…
We develop a nonperturbative method through the Hartree factorization to examine the quantum fluctuation effects on the single-field inflationary models in a spatially flat FRW cosmological space-time. Apart from the background field equation as well as the Friedmann equation with the corrections of quantum field fluctuations, the modified Mukhanov-Sasaki equations for the mode functions of the quantum scalar field are also derived by introducing the nonzero $Δ_B$ term. We consider the Universe undergoing the slow roll (SR)-ultra slow roll (USR) -slow roll (SR) inflation where in particular th…
The slow-roll inflation for a single scalar field that couples to the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) term represents an important higher-order curvature correction inspired by string theory. With the arrival of the era of precision cosmology, it is expected that the high-order corrections become more and more important. In this paper we study the observational predictions of the slow-roll inflation with the GB term by using the third-order uniform asymptotic approximation method. We calculate explicitly the primordial power spectra, spectral indices, running of the spectral indices for both scalar and tens…
The primordial power spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations during slow-roll inflation are usually calculated with the method of Bessel function approximation. For constant-roll or ultra slow-roll inflation, the method of Bessel function approximation may be invalid. We compare the numerical results with the analytical results derived from the Bessel function approximation, and we find that they differ significantly on super-horizon scales if the constant slow-roll parameter $η_H$ is not small. More accurate method is needed for calculating the primordial power spectrum for constant-roll i…
We clarify under what conditions slow-roll inflation can continue almost undisturbed, while briefly evolving through a (semi-classically) metastable false vacuum. Furthermore, we look at potential signatures in the primordial power spectrum that could point towards the existence of traversed metastable false vacua. Interestingly, the theoretical constraints for the existence of traversable metastable vacua imply that Planck should be able to detect the resulting features in the primordial power spectrum. In other words, if Planck does not see features this immediately implies the non-existence…
We investigate primordial perturbations and non-gaussianities in the Hořava-Lifshitz theory of gravitation. In the UV limit, the scalar perturbation in the Hořava theory is naturally scale-invariant, ignoring the details of the expansion of the Universe. One may thus relax the exponential inflation and the slow-roll conditions for the inflaton field. As a result, it is possible that the primordial non-gaussianities, which are ``slow-roll suppressed'' in the standard scenarios, become large. We calculate the non-gaussianities from the bispectrum of the perturbation and find that the equilateral…
The conformal symmetry of the quantized electromagnetic field breaks down in curved space-time. We point out that this conformal anomaly is able to generate a sizable magnetic field during a phase of slow-roll inflation. Such primordial magnetism is characterized by the expectation value of the squared of the magnetic field for comoving observers, which at leading order in slow-roll takes the value $\ < \vec B^2\ > =\frac{8}{15(4π)^2}\, H^4ε$, where $ε$ is the standard slow-roll parameter. This result is insensitive to the intrinsic ambiguities of renormalization in curved space-times. The inf…
Primordial black-holes (PBH) can be produced in single-field models of inflation with a quasi-inflection point in the potential. In these models, a large production of PBHs requires a deviation from the slow-roll (SR) trajectory. In turn, this SR violation can produce an exponential growth of quantum fluctuations. We study the back-reaction of these quantum modes on the inflationary dynamics using stochastic inflation in the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. We develop a methodology to solve quantum diffusion beyond SR in terms of the statistical moments of the probability distribution. We apply thes…
We study slow-roll inflation and the generation of primordial fluctuations in $F(T)$ gravity's rainbow. We obtain the second order action for scalar and tensor perturbations and then calculate the primordial power spectrum for them. Thus, after calculating the inflationary observables up to first order in slow-roll approximation, namely the scalar spectral index $n_{s}$ and the tensor-to scalar ratio $r$, we confront the predictions of the model with the current PLANCK and BICEP/Keck data.
In the standard inflationary paradigm, cosmological density perturbations are generated as quantum fluctuations in the early Universe, but then undergo a quantum-to-classical transition. A key role in this transition is played by squeezing of the quantum state, which is a result of the strong suppression of the decaying mode component of the perturbations. Motivated by ever improving measurements of the cosmological perturbations, we ask whether there are scenarios where this decaying mode is nevertheless still observable in the late Universe, ideally leading to a ``smoking gun'' signature of …
We propose a simple analytic fit for the power spectrum of scalar (curvature) perturbations during inflation, in order to describe slow roll of inflaton and formation of primordial black holes in the early universe, in the framework of single-field models. Our fit is given by a sum of the power spectrum in the slow-roll approximation, needed for a viable description of the cosmic microwave background radiation in agreement with Planck/BICEP/Keck measurements, and the log-normal (Gaussian) fit for the power spectrum enhancement (peak) needed for efficient production of primordial black holes. W…
Recently, it has been claimed that inflationary models with an inflection point in the scalar potential can produce a large resonance in the power spectrum of curvature perturbation. In this paper however we show that the previous analyses are incorrect. The reason is twofold: firstly, the inflaton is over-shot from a stage of standard inflation and so deviates from the slow-roll attractor before reaching the inflection. Secondly, on the (or close to) the inflection point, the ultra-slow-roll trajectory supersede the slow-roll one and thus, the slow-roll approximations used in the literature c…
The emergent universe scenario was proposed to solve the big bang singularity by suggesting that the universe originates from an Einstein static state and then evolves into a subsequently inflationary era. Thus, to find the relic of the existence of the Einstein static state becomes a crucial work. In this paper, we derive analytical approximation of the primordial power spectra and analyze the CMB TT-spectra for the spatially closed emergent universe. After analyzing the CMB TT-spectrum of the emergent universe scenario, we find that both the CMB TT-spectra produced by the Einstein static sta…

On the Issue of the ζSeries Convergence and Loop Corrections in the Generation of Observable Primordial Non-Gaussianity in Slow-Roll Inflation. Part I: the Bispectrum
Primordial black holes (PBHs) cannot be produced abundantly enough to be the dark matter in canonical single-field inflation under slow roll. This conclusion is robust to local non-Gaussian correlations between long- and short-wavelength curvature modes, which we show have no effect in slow roll on local primordial black hole abundances. For the prototypical model which evades this no go, ultra-slow roll (USR), these squeezed non-Gaussian correlations have at most an order unity effect on the variance of PBH-producing curvature fluctuations for models that would otherwise fail to form sufficie…
We propose and study the new (generalized) E-type $α$-attractor models of inflation, in order to include formation of primordial black holes (PBHs). The inflaton potential has a near-inflection point where slow-roll conditions are violated, thus leading to large scalar perturbations collapsing to PBHs later. An ultra-slow roll (short) phase exists between two (longer) phases of slow-roll inflation. We numerically investigate the phases of inflation, derive the power spectrum of scalar perturbations and calculate the PBHs masses. For certain values of the parameters, the asteroid-size PBHs can …
We study the non-Gaussian features in single-field slow-roll inflationary scenario where inflation is preceded by a radiation era. In such a scenario both bispectrum and trispectrum non-Gaussianities are enhanced. Interestingly, the trispectrum in this scenario does not depend up on the slow-roll parameters and thus $τ_{NL}$ is larger than $f_{NL}$ which can be a signature of such a pre-inflationary radiation era.
We compute the non-Gaussianities that arise in single field, slow roll inflationary models arising from arbitrary homogeneous initial states, as well as subleading contributions to the power spectrum. Non Bunch-Davies vacuum initial states can arise if the transition to the single field, slow roll inflation phase occurs only shortly before observable modes left the horizon. They can also arise from new physics at high energies that has been integrated out. Our general result for the bispectrum exhibits several features that were previously seen in special cases.
We construct an analytically solvable simplified model that captures the essential features for primordial black hole (PBH) production in most models of single-field inflation. The construction makes use of the Wands duality between the constant-roll (or slow-roll) and the preceding ultra-slow-roll phases and can be realized by a simple inflaton potential of two joined parabolas. Within this framework, it is possible to formulate explicit inflationary scenarios consistent with the CMB observations and copious production of PBHs of arbitrary mass. We quantify the variability of the shape of the…
We study primordial tensor power-spectra generated during inflation in bimetric gravity. More precisely, we examine a homogeneous expanding spacetime in a minimal bimetric model with an inflaton and calculate tensor perturbations on the homogeneous background under slow-roll approximation. In terms of the mass eigenstates, only the power-spectrum of the massless state remains constant and both the power-spectrum of the massive state and the cross power-spectrum rapidly decay during inflation. The amplitude of the physical power-spectrum is suppressed due to the flavor mixing. All power-spectra…
The BB-mode angular correlation power spectrum of CMB is obtained by considering the primordial gravitational waves in the squeezed vacuum state for various inflationary models and results are compared with the joint analysis of the BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck 353 GHz data. The present results may constrain several models of inflation.
The possibility that in the mass range around $10^{-12}\ M_\odot$ most of dark matter constitutes of primordial black holes (PBHs) is a very interesting topic. To produce PBHs with this mass, the primordial scalar power spectrum needs to be enhanced to the order of 0.01 at the scale $k\sim 10^{12}\ \text{Mpc}^{-1}$. The enhanced power spectrum also produces large secondary gravitational waves at the mHz band. A phenomenological delta function power spectrum is usually used to discuss the production of PBHs and secondary gravitational waves. Based on G and k inflations, we propose a new mechani…
We investigate the spectrum of cosmological perturbations in a bounce cosmos modeled by a scalar field coupled to the string tachyon field (CSTB cosmos). By explicit computation of its primordial spectral index we show the power spectrum of curvature perturbations, generated during the tachyon matter dominated contraction phase, to be nearly scale invariant. We propose a unified space of parameters for a systematic study of inflationary/bouncing cosmologies. We find that CSTB cosmos is dual--in Wands's sense--to the slow-roll inflation model as can be easily seen from this unified parameter sp…
We consider the effect of quantum diffusion on the dynamics of the inflaton during a period of ultra-slow-roll inflation. We extend the stochastic-$δ\mathcal{N}$ formalism to the ultra-slow-roll regime and show how this system can be solved analytically in both the classical-drift and quantum-diffusion dominated limits. By deriving the characteristic function, we are able to construct the full probability distribution function for the primordial density field. In the diffusion-dominated limit, we recover an exponential tail for the probability distribution, as found previously in slow-roll inf…
Loop quantum cosmology (LQC) provides a resolution of the classical big bang singularity in the deep Planck era. The evolution, prior to the usual slow-roll inflation, naturally generates excited states at the onset of the slow-roll inflation. It is expected that these quantum gravitational effects could leave its fingerprints on the primordial perturbation spectrum and non-Gaussianity, and lead to some observational evidences in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). While the impact of the quantum effects on the primordial perturbation spectrum has been already studied and constrained by cur…
We consider a model of two-field inflation, containing an ordinary scalar field and a DBI field. We work beyond the slow-roll approximation, but we assume a separable Hubble parameter. We then derive the form of potential in this framework and study the spectrum of the primordial perturbations in details. We also study the amplitude of the non-Gaussianity of the primordial perturbations both in equilateral and orthogonal configurations in this setup. We test the model with recent observational data and find some constraints on the model parameters. Our study shows that for some ranges of the D…
Recently, it has been found that complete resolution of the Hubble tension might point to a scale-invariant Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum of primordial scalar perturbation, i.e. $n_s=1$ for $H_0\sim 73$km/s/Mpc. We show that for well-known slow-roll models, if inflation ends by a waterfall instability with respect to another field in the field space while inflaton is still at a deep slow-roll region, $n_s$ can be lifted to $n_s= 1$. A surprise of our result is that with pre-recombination early dark energy, chaotic $ϕ^2$ inflation, ruled out by Planck+BICEP/Keck in standard $Λ$CDM, can be revived…
