The star HD 49385 is the first G-type solar-like pulsator observed in the seismology field of the space telescope CoRoT. The satellite collected 137 days of high-precision photometric data on this star, confirming that it presents solar-like oscillations. HD 49385 was also observed in spectroscopy with the NARVAL spectrograph in January 2009. Our goal is to characterize HD 49385 using both spectroscopic and seismic data. The fundamental stellar parameters of HD 49385 are derived with the semi-automatic software VWA, and the projected rotational velocity is estimated by fitting synthetic profiles to isolated lines in the observed spectrum. A maximum likelihood estimation is used to determine the parameters of the observed p modes. We perform a global fit, in which modes are fitted simultaneously over nine radial orders, with degrees ranging from l=0 to l=3 (36 individual modes). Precise estimates of the atmospheric parameters (Teff, [M/H], log g) and of the vsini of HD 49385 are obtained. The seismic analysis of the star leads to a clear identification of the modes for degrees l=0,1,2. Around the maximum of the signal (nu=1013 microHz), some peaks are found significant and compatible with the expected characteristics of l=3 modes. Our fit yields robust estimates of the frequencies, linewidths and amplitudes of the modes. We find amplitudes of about 5.6 +/- 0.8 ppm for radial modes at the maximum of the signal. The lifetimes of the modes range from one day (at high frequency) to a bit more than two days (at low frequency). Significant peaks are found outside the identified ridges and are fitted. They are attributed to mixed modes.
We have developed a new automated method intended to perform the simultaneous - and thus more consistent - measurement of both the seismic indices characterizing the oscillations and the parameters characterizing the granulation signature of red-giant stars. This method, called MLEUP, takes advantage of the Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) algorithm combined with the parametrized representation of red giant pulsation spectra following the Universal Pattern (UP). Its performances have been tested on Monte Carlo simulations for observation conditions representative of CoRoT and Kepler data. The…
We use a seismic diagnostic, based on the derivative of the phase shift of the reflected by the surface acoustic waves, to probe the outer layers of the star HD 49933. This diagnostic is particularly sensitive to partial ionization processes occurring above the base of the convective zone. The regions of partial ionization of light elements, hydrogen and helium, have well known seismological signatures. In this work we detect a different seismic signature in the acoustic frequencies, that we showed to correspond to the location where the partial ionization of heavy elements occurs. The locatio…
Solar analogues are important stars to study for understanding the properties of the Sun. Evolutionary modeling, combined with seismic and spectroscopic analysis, becomes a powerful method to characterize stellar intrinsic parameters, such as mass, radius, metallicity and age. However, these characteristics, relevant for other aspects of astrophysics or exoplanetary system physics for example, are difficult to obtain with a high precision and/or accuracy. The goal of this study is to characterize the two solar analogues HD42618 and HD43587, observed by CoRoT. In particular, we aim to infer prec…
Asteroseismology is witnessing a revolution thanks to high-precise asteroseismic space data (MOST, CoRoT, Kepler, BRITE), and their large ground-based follow-up programs. Those instruments have provided an unprecedented large amount of information, which allows us to scrutinize its statistical properties in the quest for hidden relations among pulsational and/or physical observables. This approach might be particularly useful for stars whose pulsation content is difficult to interpret. This is the case of intermediate-mass classical pulsating stars (i.e. gamma Dor, delta Scuti, hybrids) for wh…
Inspired by the so appealing example of red giants, where going from a handful of stars to thousands revealed the structure of the eigenspectrum, we inspected a large homogeneous set of around 1860 δ Scuti stars observed with CoRoT. This unique data set reveals a common regular pattern which appears to be in agreement with island modes featured by theoretical non-perturbative treatments of fast rotation. The comparison of these data with models and linear stability calculations suggests that spectra can be fruitfully characterized to first order by a few parameters which might play the role of…
Hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus pulsating stars show acoustic ($p$) oscillation modes typical of $δ$ Scuti variable stars, and gravity ($g$) pulsation modes characteristic of $γ$ Doradus variable stars simultaneously excited. Observations from space missions like MOST, CoRoT, and \emph{Kepler} have revealed a large number of hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus pulsators, thus paving the way for a exciting new channel for asteroseismic studies. We perform a detailed asteroseismological modeling of five hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus stars. We employ a grid-based modeling approach to sound the internal stru…
We report the discovery of four new pulsating subdwarf B (sdBV) stars from Campaign 7 of the Kepler spacecraft's K2 mission. EPICs 215776487, 217280630, 218366972, and 218717602 are all gravity (g)-mode pulsators and we also detect two pressure (p)-mode pulsations in EPIC 218717602. We detect asymptotic l=1 sequences in all four stars, allowing us to identify nearly all of the g modes. We detect evenly-spaced frequency multiplets in EPIC 218717602, from which we determine a rotation period near seven days. Spectroscopic observations determine that EPIC 218366972, is in a 5.92d binary with most…
Models of red giants in the CoRoT asteroseismology fields combining asteroseismic and spectroscopic constraints
Asteroseismology offers the possibility of probing stellar interiors and testing evolutionary and seismic models. Precise photometry and spectroscopy obtained during multi-site campaigns on young open clusters allows discovering rich samples of pulsating stars and using them in a simultaneous seismic modelling called ensemble asteroseismology. The aim of this study is to obtain the age of the open cluster NGC 6910 by means of ensemble asteroseismology of the early-type pulsating members, to derive their stellar parameters, and to classify the excited modes. We used time-series analysis, perfor…
Nowadays large spectroscopic surveys, like the Gaia-ESO Survey (GES), provide unique stellar databases for better investigating the formation and evolution of our Galaxy. Great attention must be paid to the accuracy of the basic stellar properties derived: large uncertainties in stellar parameters lead to large uncertainties in abundances, distances and ages. Asteroseismology has a key role in this context: when seismic information is combined with information derived from spectroscopic analysis, highly precise constraints on distances, masses, extinction and ages of Red Giants can be obtained…
The large-scale magnetic fields detected at the surface of about 10% of hot stars extend into the stellar interior, where they may alter the structure. Deep inner regions of stars are only observable using asteroseismology. Here, we investigated the pulsating magnetic B3.5V star HD43317, inferred its interior properties and assessed whether the dipolar magnetic field with a surface strength of $B_p = 1312 \pm 332$G caused different properties compared to those of non-magnetic stars. We analysed the latest version of the star's 150d CoRoT light curve and extracted 35 significant frequencies, 28…
In this work, we have gone one step further from the study presented in the first CoRoT symposium. Our analysis consists on constructing a model database covering the entire uncertainty box of the $δ$ Sct star HD174966, derived from the usual observables ($\mathrm{T}_{\mathrm{eff}}$, $\log g$ and [Fe/H]), and constraining the models representative of the star. To do that, we use the value of the periodicity (related to $Δν_{\ell}$) found in its CoRoT pulsating spectrum.
We present a seismic study of $δ$ Scuti based on a mode identification from multicoulor photometry. The dominant frequency can be associated only with a radial mode and the second frequency is, most probably, a dipole mode. The other six frequencies have more ambiguous identifications. The photometric mode identification provided also some constraints on the atmospheric metallicity [m/H]$\approx$+0.5 and microturbulent velocity $ξ_t\approx 4~\kms$.\\ For models reproducing the dominant frequency, we show that only the fundamental mode is possible and the first overtone is excluded. However, th…

It is known that the observed distribution of frequencies in CoRoT and Kepler δ Scuti stars has no parallelism with any theoretical model. Pre-whitening is a widespread technique in the analysis of time series with gaps from pulsating stars located in the classical instability strip such as δ Scuti stars. However, some studies have pointed out that this technique might introduce biases in the results of the frequency analysis. This work aims at studying the biases that can result from pre-whitening in asteroseismology. The results will depend on the intrinsic range and distribution of frequenc…
Connections between Quasi-periodicity and Modulation in Pulsating Stars
We present a comprehensive seismic study of the three pulsating stars of $β$ Cep/SPB type: $ν$ Eridani, 12 Lacertae and $γ$ Pegasi. Models with the modified mean opacity profile are constructed in order to account for both the observed frequency range and the values of some individual frequencies. To decrease the number of possible solutions, we make use of the non-adiabatic parameter $f$, whose value is very sensitive to subphotospheric layers where pulsations are driven. This complex seismic modelling show the need for a significant modification of the opacity profile.
Seismic data obtained with the space photometric CoRoT and Kepler instruments have led to a unprecendently precise characterization -- in terms of masses and ages -- of a large sample of post main sequence stars (low mass subgiant and red giants). The high quality of the collected seismic data and the subsequent theoretical work for interpreting them brought up a series of issues which revealed that our knowledge of the internal properties of red giant stars remains quite limited. Two such important issues are discussed here, namely mixing beyond the convective core of helium burning red giant…
This paper aims to precisely determine the masses and detect pulsation modes in the two massive components of Beta Cen with BRITE-Constellation photometry. In addition, seismic models for the components are considered and the effects of fast rotation are discussed. This is done to test the limitations of seismic modeling for this very difficult case. A simultaneous fit of visual and spectroscopic orbits is used to self-consistently derive the orbital parameters, and subsequently the masses, of the components. The derived masses are equal to 12.02 +/- 0.13 and 10.58 +/- 0.18 M_Sun. The paramete…
The first asteroseismic studies of pre-main sequence (pre-MS) pulsators have been conducted based on data from the space telescopes MOST and CoRoT with typical time bases of less than 40 days. With these data, a relation between the pulsational properties of pre-MS delta Scuti stars and their relative evolutionary phase on their way from the birthline to the zero-age main sequence was revealed. But it is evident from comparison with the more evolved pulsators in their main sequence or post-main sequence stages observed by the main Kepler mission, that many more questions could be addressed wit…
The recently launched NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission is going to collect lightcurves for a few hundred million of stars and we expect to increase the number of pulsating stars to analyze compared to the few thousand stars observed by the CoRoT, $\textit{Kepler}$ and K2 missions. However, most of the TESS targets have not yet been properly classified and characterized. In order to improve the analysis of the TESS data, it is crucial to determine the type of stellar pulsations in a timely manner. We propose an automatic method to classify stars attending to their pulsa…
The field of asteroseismology has enjoyed a large swath of data coming from recent missions (e.g., CoRoT, Kepler, K2). This wealth of new data has allowed the field to expand beyond the previous limitation of a few extremely bright and evolved stars. Asteroseismology relies on accurate surface measurements for boundary conditions, but the predicted physical parameters in the Kepler Input Catalog (KIC) are unreliable for hot stars. We present stellar parameters of 25 candidate pulsating B star candidates in the Kepler field. We use blue optical spectra to measure the projected rotational veloci…
Thanks to the space-based photometry missions CoRoT and Kepler, we now benefit from a wealth of seismic data for stars other than the sun. In the future, K2, Tess and Plato will provide further observations. The quality of this data may allow kernel-based linear structural inversion techniques to be used for stars other than the sun. To understand the limitations of this approach, we analyse the validity of the linear assumption used in these inversion techniques. We inspect various structural pairs and see how they are affected by structural changes. We show that uncertainties in radius stron…
