The density matrix renormalization group is applied to a relativistic complex scalar field at finite chemical potential. The two-point function and various bulk quantities are studied. It is seen that bulk quantities do not change with the chemical potential until it is larger than the minimum excitation energy. The technical limitations of the density matrix renormalization group for treating bosons in relativistic field theories are discussed. Applications to other relativistic models and to nontopological solitons are also suggested.
We investigate the doping-driven metal-insulator transition of the (2+1)-dimensional Hubbard model in the path-integral formalism with the tensor renormalization group method. We calculate the electron density $\langle n\rangle$ as a function of the chemical potential $μ$ choosing three values of the Coulomb potential with $U=80$, $8$, and $2$ as representative cases of the strong, intermediate, and weak couplings. We have determined the critical chemical potential at each $U$, where the Hubbard model undergoes the metal-insulator transition from the half-filling plateau with $\langle n\rangle…
Studying the phase diagram of the three-flavor Schwinger model in the presence of a chemical potential with measurement- and gate-based quantum computing
We calculate thermodynamic potentials and their derivatives for the three-dimensional $O(2)$ model using tensor-network methods to investigate the well-known second-order phase transition. We also consider the model at non-zero chemical potential to study the Silver Blaze phenomenon, which is related to the particle number density at zero temperature. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of the number density is explored using asymmetric lattices. Our results for both zero and non-zero magnetic field, temperature, and chemical potential are consistent with those obtained using other methods…
To describe the chiral magnetic effect, the chiral chemical potential $μ_5$ is introduced to imitate the impact of topological charge changing transitions in the quark-gluon plasma under the influence of an external magnetic field. We employ the (1+1) dimensional Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model to study the chiral phase structure and chirality charge density of strongly interacting matter with finite chiral chemical potential $μ_5$ in a quantum simulator. By performing the Quantum imaginary time evolution (QITE) algorithm, we simulate the (1+1) dimensional NJL model on the lattice at various te…
We investigate the metal-insulator transition of the (1+1)-dimensional Hubbard model in the path-integral formalism with the tensor renormalization group method. The critical chemical potential $μ_{\rm c}$ and the critical exponent $ν$ are determined from the $μ$ dependence of the electron density in the thermodynamic limit. Our results for $μ_{\rm c}$ and $ν$ show consistency with an exact solution based on the Bethe ansatz. Our encouraging results indicate the applicability of the tensor renormalization group method to the analysis of higher-dimensional Hubbard models.
We present a tensor-network approach for two-dimensional strong-coupling QCD with staggered quarks at nonzero chemical potential. After integrating out the gauge fields at infinite coupling, the partition function can be written as a full contraction of a tensor network consisting of coupled local numeric and Grassmann tensors. To evaluate the partition function and to compute observables, we develop a Grassmann higher-order tensor renormalization group method, specifically tailored for this model. During the coarsening procedure, the blocking of adjacent Grassmann tensors is performed analyti…
We investigate the critical endpoints of the (3+1)-dimensional $Z_2$ gauge-Higgs model at finite density together with the (2+1)-dimensional one at zero density as a benchmark using the tensor renormalization group method. We focus on the phase transition between the Higgs phase and the confinement phase at finite chemical potential along the critical end line. In the (2+1)-dimensional model, the resulting endpoint is consistent with a recent numerical estimate by the Monte Carlo simulation. In the (3+1)-dimensional case, however, the location of the critical endpoint shows disagreement with t…
We report recent progress on the application of the tensor renormalization group (TRG) to quantum field theories pursued by the Tsukuba group. We explain how to treat the scalar, fermion, and gauge theories with the TRG method presenting the results for the phase transitions in the (3+1)-dimensional ((3+1)$d$) complex $ϕ^4$ theory at finite density, (1+1)$d$ pure U(1) lattice gauge theory with a $θ$ term, (3+1)$d$ Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at finite density and (1+1)$d$ and (2+1)$d$ Hubbard models at an arbitrary chemical potential. It is demonstrated that the TRG method is free from the sign …
