New trajectory-based small-gain results are obtained for nonlinear feedback systems under relaxed assumptions. Specifically, during a transient period, the solutions of the feedback system may not satisfy some key inequalities that previous small-gain results usually utilize to prove stability properties. The results allow the application of the small-gain perspective to various systems which satisfy less demanding stability notions than the Input-to-Output Stability property. The robust global feedback stabilization problem of an uncertain time-delayed chemostat model is solved by means of the trajectory-based small-gain results.
The notion of the relaxed Robust Control Lyapunov Function (relaxed RCLF) is introduced and is exploited for the design of robust feedback stabilizers for nonlinear systems. Particularly, it is shown for systems with input constraints that relaxed RCLFs can be easily obtained, while RCLFs are not available. Moreover, it is shown that the use of relaxed RCLFs usually results to different feedback designs from the ones obtained by the use of the standard RCLF methodology. Using the relaxed RCLFs feedback design methodology, a simple controller that guarantees robust global stabilization of a per…
In this work, we investigate the state stabilization and trajectory tracking problems of underactuated surface ships with full state model of having non-diagonal inertia and damping matrices. By combining the novel state transformations, the direct Lyapunov approach, and the nonlinear time-varying tools, the stabilization and the trajectory tracking controllers are developed respectively guaranteeing global uniform asymptotic convergence of the state to the desired set point and global exponential convergence to the desired reference trajectory via mild persistent exciting conditions. Simulati…
In this paper we consider the problem of stabilization and tracking of desired state trajectory for a wide range of nonlinear control problems with disturbances. We present the sufficient conditions for the existence of $C^k$ state feedback controllers and the process of their mathematical designing is described.
Given a nonstationary trajectory of the Navier-Stokes system, a finite-dimensional feedback boundary controller stabilizing locally the system to the given trajectory is derived. Moreover the controller is supported in a given open subset of the boundary of the domain containing the fluid. In a first step a controller is derived that stabilizes the linear Oseen-Stokes system "around the given trajectory" to zero; for that a corollary of a suitable truncated boundary observability inequality, the regularizing property for the system, and some standard techniques of the optimal control theory ar…
This article presents a state feedback control design strategy for the stabilization of a vehicle along a reference collision avoidance maneuver. The stabilization of the vehicle is achieved through a combination of steering, acceleration and braking. A Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) model is obtained from the linearization of a non-linear model along the reference trajectory. A robust state feedback control law is computed for the LPV model. Finally, simulation results illustrate the stabilization of the vehicle along the reference trajectory.
It is shown that an oblique projection based feedback control is able to stabilize the state of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation, evolving in rectangular domains, to a given time-dependent trajectory. The number of actuators is finite and consists of a finite number of indicator functions supported in small subdomains. Simulations are presented, in the one-dimensional case, showing the stabilizing performance of the feedback control.
We consider a possible application of the Ważewski topological method to feedback control systems and to more general dynamical systems. We show how this method can be used to prove the impossibility of global stabilization in such problems. Moreover, we give sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution such that its trajectory never leaves a subset of the extended phase space of the system and does not tend asymptotically to a given equilibrium. We illustrate our result with various real-life systems including the Furuta pendulum and the wheeled inverted pendulum.
Transverse linearization-based approaches have become among the most prominent methods for orbitally stabilizing feedback design in regards to (periodic) motions of underactuated mechanical systems. Yet, in an $n$-dimensional state-space, this requires knowledge of a set of $(n-1)$ independent transverse coordinates, which can be nontrivial to find and whose definitions might vary for different motions (trajectories). In this paper, we consider instead a generic set of $excessive$ transverse coordinates which are defined in terms of a particular parameterization of the motion and a projection …
Feedback asymptotic stabilization of control systems is an important topic of control theory and applications. Broadly speaking, if the system $\dot{x} = f(x,u)$ is locally asymptotically stabilizable, then there exists a feedback control $u(x)$ ensuring the convergence to an equilibrium for any trajectory starting from a point sufficiently close to the equilibrium state. In this paper, we develop a reasonably natural and general composition operator approach to stabilizability. To begin with, we provide an extension of the classical Hautus lemma to the generalized context of composition opera…
A Lyapunov-based approach for the trajectory generation of an $N$-dimensional Schr{ö}dinger equation in whole $\RR^N$ is proposed. For the case of a quantum particle in an $N$-dimensional decaying potential the convergence is precisely analyzed. The free system admitting a mixed spectrum, the dispersion through the absolutely continuous part is the main obstacle to ensure such a stabilization result. Whenever, the system is completely initialized in the discrete part of the spectrum, a Lyapunov strategy encoding both the distance with respect to the target state and the penalization of the pas…
In this paper, we present a virtual control contraction metric (VCCM) based nonlinear parameter-varying (NPV) approach to design a state-feedback controller for a control moment gyroscope (CMG) to track a user-defined trajectory set. This VCCM based nonlinear stabilization and performance synthesis approach, which is similar to linear parameter-varying (LPV) control approaches, allows to achieve exact guarantees of exponential stability and $\mathcal{L}_2$-gain performance on nonlinear systems with respect to all trajectories from the predetermined set, which is not the case with the conventio…
