We take the MSSM as a complete theory of low energy phenomena, including neutrino masses and mixings. This immediately implies that the gravitino is the only possible dark matter candidate. We study the implications of the astrophysical experiments such as PAMELA and Fermi-LAT, on this scenario. The theory can account for both the realistic neutrino masses and mixings, and the PAMELA data as long as the slepton masses lie in the $500-10^6 $TeV range. The squarks can be either light or heavy, depending on their contribution to radiative neutrino masses. On the other hand, the Fermi-LAT data imply heavy superpartners, all out of LHC reach, simply on the grounds of the energy scale involved, for the gravitino must weigh more than 2 TeV. The perturbativity of the theory also implies an upper bound on its mass, approximately $6-7 $TeV.
As discussed recently by Hooper and Tait, the singlino-like dark matter in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) extended by a singlet Higgs superfield can give a perfect explanation for both the relic density and the Pamela result through the Sommerfeld-enhanced annihilation into singlet Higgs bosons ($a$ or $h$ followed by $h->a a$) with $a$ being light enough to decay dominantly to muons or electrons. In this work we analyze the parameter space required by such a dark matter explanation and also consider the constraints from the LEP experiments. We find that although the light si…
Two dark matter components in N_{DM}MSSM and dark matter extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the high energy positron spectrum in PAMELA/HEAT data
We consider a scenario within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model extended by a singlet chiral superfield, in which neutralino dark matter annihilates to light singlet-like Higgs bosons, which proceed to decay to either electron-positron or muon-antimuon pairs. Unlike neutralino annihilations in the MSSM, this model can provide a good fit to the PAMELA cosmic ray positron fraction excess. Furthermore, the singlet-like scalar Higgs can induce a large Sommerfeld enhancement and provide an annihilation rate sufficient to accommodate the observed positron excess.
The recent positron excess in cosmic rays (CR) observed by the PAMELA satellite may be a signal for dark matter (DM) annihilation. When these measurements are combined with those from FERMI on the total ($e^++e^-$) flux and from PAMELA itself on the $\bar p/p$ ratio, these and other results are difficult to reconcile with traditional models of DM, including the conventional mSUGRA version of Supersymmetry even if boosts as large as $10^{3-4}$ are allowed. In this paper, we combine the results of a previously obtained scan over a more general 19-parameter subspace of the MSSM with a correspondi…
We propose a new class of R-parity violating extension of MSSM with type II seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses where an unstable gravitino is the dark matter of the Universe. It decays predominantly into three leptons final states, thereby providing a natural explanation of the positron excess but no antiproton excess in the PAMELA experiment. The model can explain neutrino masses without invoking any high scale physics while keeping the pre-existing baryon asymmetry of the universe in tact.
We suppose that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) is the dark matter. The bino-like LSP can decay through the SO(10) gauge interactions, if one right-handed (RH) neutrino (ν^c_1) is lighter than the LSP and its superpartner (\tildeν^c_1) develops a vacuum expectation value (VEV), raising extremely small R-parity violation naturally. The leptonic decay modes can be dominant, if the VEV scale of {\bf 16}_H is a few orders of magnitude lower than the VEV of {\bf 45}_H (\approx 10^{16} GeV), and if a slepton (\tilde{e}^c_1) is relatively…
The recent data from PAMELA and Fermi-LAT can be interpreted as evidence of new astrophysical sources of high energy positrons. In that case, such astrophysical positrons constitute an additional background against the positrons from dark matter annihilation. In this paper, we study the effect of that background on the prospects for the detection of a positron dark matter signal in future experiments. In particular, we determine the new regions in the (mass, $\sigmav$) plane that are detectable by the AMS-02 experiment for several dark matter scenarios and different propagation models. We find…
A series of experiments measuring high-energy cosmic rays have recently reported strong indications for the existence of an excess of high-energy electrons and positrons. If interpreted in terms of the decay of dark matter particles, the PAMELA measurements of the positron fraction and the Fermi LAT measurements of the total electron-plus-positron flux restrict the possible decaying dark matter scenarios to a few cases. Analyzing different decay channels in a model-independent manner, and adopting a conventional diffusive reacceleration model for the background fluxes of electrons and positron…
In a wino LSP scenario the annihilation cross section of winos gravitationally bound in galaxies can be boosted by a Sommerfeld enhancement factor which arises due to the ladder of exchanged W bosons between the initial states. The boost factor obtained can be in the range S ~ 10^4 if the mass is close to the resonance value of M ~ 4 TeV. In this paper we show that if one takes into account the Sommerfeld enhancement in the relic abundance calculation then the correct relic density is obtained for 4 TeV wino mass due to the enhanced annihilation after their kinetic decoupling. At the same time…
The generation of an early kination dominated era within a tracking quintessential model is investigated, the relic density of the Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) is calculated and we show that it can be enhanced with respect to its value in the standard cosmology. By adjusting the parameters of the quintessential scenario, the cold dark matter abundance in the universe can become compatible with large values for the annihilation cross section times the velocity of the WIMPs. Using these values and assuming that the WIMPs annihilate predominantly to $μ^+μ^-$, we calculate the indu…
We consider two non-standard cosmological scenaria according to which the universe is reheated to a low reheating temperature after the late decay of a scalar field or is dominated by the kinetic energy of a quintessence field in the context of a tracking quintessential model. In both cases, we calculate the relic density of the \emph{Weakly Interacting Massive Particles} (WIMPs) and show that it can be enhanced with respect to its value in the standard cosmology. By adjusting the parameters of the low reheating or the quintessential scenario, the cold dark matter abundance in the universe can…
Searches for Dark Matter (DM) particles with indirect detection techniques have reached important milestones with the precise measurements of the anti-proton and gamma-ray spectra, notably by the PAMELA and FERMI-LAT experiments. While the gamma-ray results have been used to test the thermal Dark Matter hypothesis and constrain the Dark Matter annihilation cross section into Standard Model (SM) particles, the anti-proton flux measured by the PAMELA experiment remains relatively unexploited. Here we show that the latter can be used to set a constraint on the neutralino-chargino mass difference.…
We analyze new diffuse gamma-ray data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, which do not confirm an excess in the EGRET data at galactic mid-latitudes, in combination with measurements of electron and positron fuxes from PAMELA, Fermi and HESS within the context of three possible sources: dark matter (DM) annihilation or decay into charged leptons, and a continuum distribution of pulsars. We allow for variations in the backgrounds, consider several DM halo profiles, and account for systematic uncertainties in data where possible. We find that all three scenarios represent the data well. Th…
It is shown that a Weakly Interacting Massive dark matter Particle (WIMP) interpretation for the positron excess observed in a variety of experiments, HEAT, PAMELA, and AMS-02, is highly constrained by the Fermi/LAT observations of dwarf galaxies. In particular, this paper has focused on the annihilation channels that best fit the current AMS-02 data (Boudaud et al., 2014). The Fermi satellite has surveyed the $γ$-ray sky, and its observations of dwarf satellites are used to place strong bounds on the annihilation of WIMPs into a variety of channels. For the single channel case, we find that d…
Recently, a claim of possible evidence for Dark Matter in data from the Fermi LAT experiment was made by Goodenough and Hooper [8]. We test the Dark Matter properties consistent with their claim in terms of the MSSM by a 24-dimensional parameter scan using nested sampling, excluding all but a very small region of the MSSM. Although this claim is very preliminary, and not made by the Fermi LAT experiment, our scan shows a possible approach for the analysis of future firm evidence from an indirect detection experiment, and its potential for heavily constraining models.
We extract the positron and electron fluxes in the energy range 10 - 100 GeV by combining the recent data from PAMELA and Fermi LAT. The {\it absolute positron and electron} fluxes thus obtained are found to obey the power laws: $E^{-2.65}$ and $E^{-3.06}$ respectively, which can be confirmed by the upcoming data from PAMELA. The positron flux appears to indicate an excess at energies $E\gsim 50$ GeV even if the uncertainty in the secondary positron flux is added to the Galactic positron background. This leaves enough motivation for considering new physics, such as annihilation or decay of dar…
Excitation of multicomponent dark matter in the galactic center has been proposed as the source of low-energy positrons that produce the excess 511 keV gamma rays that have been observed by INTEGRAL. Such models have also been promoted to explain excess high-energy electrons/positrons observed by the PAMELA, Fermi/LAT and H.E.S.S. experiments. We investigate whether one model can simultaneously fit all three anomalies, in addition to further constraints from inverse Compton scattering by the high-energy leptons. We find models that fit both the 511 keV and PAMELA excesses at dark matter masses…
Updated values of running quark and lepton masses at GUT (Grand unified theories) scales are important for fermion mass model building, and to calculate neutrino masses, in GUTs . We present their values at GUT scales, in SM, MSSM and 2HDM theories, using the latest values of running quark and lepton masses.
Higgs Masses and More in the Complex MSSM with FeynHiggs
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have been invoked to explain both the 511 keV emission from the galactic bulge and the high-energy positron excess inferred from the ATIC, PAMELA, and Fermi data. While independent explanations can be responsible for these phenomena, we explore the possibility of their common GRB-related origin by modeling the GRB distribution and estimating the rates. For an expected Milky Way long GRB rate, neither of the two signals is generic; the local excess requires a 2% coincidence, while the signal from the galactic center requires a 20% coincidence with respect to the timing o…
We analyze the cosmic-ray signatures of decaying gravitino dark matter in a model independent way based on an operator analysis. Thermal leptogenesis and universal boundary conditions at the GUT scale restrict the gravitino mass to be below 600 GeV. Electron and positron fluxes from gravitino decays, together with the standard GALPROP background, cannot explain both, the PAMELA positron fraction and the electron + positron flux recently measured by Fermi LAT. For gravitino dark matter, the observed fluxes require astrophysical sources. The measured antiproton flux allows for a sizable contribu…
NLO calculation of the Delta F = 2 Hamiltonians in the MSSM and phenomenological analysis of the B - Bbar mixing
We study implications of two dark matter candidate events at CDMS-II on the neutralino dark matter scenario in the supersymmetric standard model, in light of the recent lattice simulation on the strange quark content of a nucleon. The scattering rate of neutralino-nucleon is dominated by Higgs exchange processes and the mass of heavy Higgs boson is predicted for the neutralino of Bino-Higgsino mixing state. In the case of Wino-Higgsino mixing, the Higgs sector may not be constrained.
Interplay between Hbs and bsgamma in the MSSM with Non-Minimal Flavour Violation
Either ATIC or Fermi-LAT data can be fitted together with the PAMELA data by three components: primary background ~ E^{-3.3}, secondary background ~ E^{-3.6}, and an additional source of electrons ~ E^{-g_a} Exp(-E/E_{cut}). We find that the best fits for ATIC + PAMELA and for Fermi + PAMELA are approximately the same, g_a ~ 2 and E_{cut} ~ 500 GeV. However, the ATIC data have a narrow bump between 300 GeV and 600 GeV which contradicts the smooth Fermi spectrum. An interpretation of the ATIC bump as well as the featureless Fermi spectrum in terms of dark matter models and pulsars is discussed.
We considered the new signature of a charged Higgs boson, $pp\rightarrow H^{\pm}h\rightarrow W^{\pm}hh$, which is almost background free as the promising to study of supersymmetry at the LHC with both $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}= 14$ TeV. In the framework of MSSM model we used the latest theoretical parameter space, which is consistent with the experimental constraints from Large Hadron Collider and direct or indirect searches. In the surviving regions with the help of Pythia 8.3 and Feynhiggs programs it was found that production cross sections, $σ(pp\rightarrow H^{\pm}h)$, and Branchin…
Reaching a theoretical accuracy in the prediction of the lightest MSSM Higgs-boson mass, M_h, at the level of the current experimental precision requires the inclusion of momentum-dependent contributions at the two-loop level. Recently two groups presented the two-loop QCD momentum-dependent corrections to Mh [1,2], using a hybrid on-shell--DRbar scheme, with apparently different results. We show that the differences can be traced back to a different renormalization of the top-quark mass, and that the claim in [2] of an inconsistency in [1] is incorrect. We furthermore compare consistently the…
High energy electrons and positrons from decaying dark matter can produce a significant flux of gamma rays by inverse Compton off low energy photons in the interstellar radiation field. This possibility is inevitably related with the dark matter interpretation of the observed PAMELA and FERMI excesses. The aim of this paper is providing a simple and universal method to constraint dark matter models which produce electrons and positrons in their decay by using the Fermi LAT gamma-ray observations in the energy range between 0.5 GeV and 300 GeV. We provide a set of universal response functions t…
We study the charged cosmic rays arising from the slow decay of gravitino dark matter within supersymmetric scenarios with trilinear R-parity violation. It is shown that operators of the LLE type can very well account for the recent anomalies in cosmic ray electron and positron data reported by PAMELA, ATIC and Fermi LAT, without violating any other bounds. This scenario will soon be tested by the Fermi LAT data on diffuse gamma ray emission.
It has recently been pointed out that a component of the observed gamma ray emission in the low-latitudes of Fermi Bubble has a spectral shape that can be explained by a 10 GeV dark matter (DM) annihilating to tau leptons with a cross-section of 2 x 10^{-27} cm^3/s. Motivated by this possibility, we revisit the annihilation of a 10 GeV neutralino DM in the MSSM via stau exchange. The required stau masses and mixing, consistent with LEP direct search and electroweak precision constraints, are correlated with a possible enhancement of the Higgs decay rate to two photons. We also explore the impl…
Flavor symmetries à la Froggatt-Nielsen~(FN) provide a compelling way to explain the hierarchies of fermionic masses and mixing angles in the Yukawa sector. In Supersymmetric~(SUSY) extensions of the Standard Model where the mediation of SUSY breaking occurs at scales larger than the breaking of flavor, this symmetry must be respected not only by the Yukawas of the superpotential, but by the soft-breaking masses and trilinear terms as well. In this work we show that contrary to naive expectations, even starting with completely flavor blind soft-breaking in the full theory at high scales, the l…
Unexpected features in the energy spectra of cosmic rays electrons and positrons have been recently observed by PAMELA and Fermi-LAT satellite experiments, opening to the exciting possibility of an indirect manifestation of new physics. A TeV-scale fourth lepton family is a natural extension of the Standard Model leptonic sector (also linked to the hierarchy problem in Minimal Walking Technicolor models). The heavy Majorana neutrino of this setup mixes with Standard Model charged leptons through a weak charged current interaction. Here, we first study analytically the energy spectrum of the el…
We present the implementation of the radiative corrections of the Higgs sector in three public computer codes for the evaluation of the particle spectrum in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, Softsusy, Spheno and SuSpect. We incorporate the full one-loop corrections to the Higgs boson masses and the electroweak symmetry breaking conditions, as well as the two-loop corrections controlled by the strong gauge coupling and the Yukawa couplings of the third generation fermions. We include also the corrections controlled by the tau Yukawa coupling that we derived for completeness. The comput…
Fermi-LAT has confirmed the excess in cosmic positron fraction observed by PAMELA, which could be explained by dark matter annihilating or decaying in the center of the galaxy. Most existing models postulate that the dark matter annihilates or decays into final states with two or four leptons, which would produce diffuse gamma ray emissions that are in tension with data measured by Fermi-LAT. We point out that the tension could be alleviated if the dark matter decays into three-body final states with a pair of leptons and a missing particle. Using the goldstino decay in a certain class of supe…
By extending the lepton sector of standard model to include one sterile neutrino and two sets of new Higgs doublets and right-handed neutrinos, denoted by $(η_1, N_1, N_3)$ and $(η_2, N_2, N_4)$, with two $Z_2$ symmetries, the puzzles of neutrino masses, matter-antimatter asymmetry and cosmic-ray excess observed by Fermi-LAT and PAMELA can be resolved simultaneously. The characters of the model are: (a) neutrino masses arise from type-I and radiative seesaw mechanisms; (b) leptogenesis leading to baryon asymmetry at the energy scale of $O(1- 10\rm TeV)$ could be realized through soft $Z_2$ sym…
Motivated by recent observations from Pamela, Fermi and H.E.S.S., we consider dark matter decays in the framework of supersymmetric SU(5) grand unification theories. An SU(5) singlet S is assumed to be the main component of dark matters, which decays into visible particles through dimension six operators suppressed by the grand unification scale. Under certain conditions, S decays dominantly into a pair of sleptons with universal coupling for all generations. Subsequently, electrons and positrons are produced from cascade decays of these sleptons. These cascade decay chains smooth the electron…
The data collected by ATIC, CREAM and PAMELA all display remarkable cosmic-ray-nuclei spectrum hardening above the magnetic rigidity $\sim$ 240 GV. One natural speculation is that the primary electron spectrum also gets hardened (possibly at $\sim 80$ GV) and the hardening partly accounts for the electron/positron total spectrum excess discovered by ATIC, HESS and Fermi-LAT. If it is the case, the increasing behavior of the subsequent positron-to-electron ratio will get flattened and the spectrum hardening should be taken into account in the joint fit of the electron/psoitron data otherwise th…
The first result of AMS-02 confirms the positron fraction excess observed by PAMELA, but the spectrum is somewhat softer than that of PAMELA. In the dark matter (DM) interpretation it brings a tension between AMS-02 and Fermi-LAT, which reported an excess of the electron plus positron flux. In this work we point out that the asymmetric cosmic ray from asymmetric dark matter (ADM) decay relaxes the tension. It is found that in the case of two-body decay a bosonic ADM around 2.4 TeV and decaying into $μ^-τ^+$ can significantly improve the fits. Based on the $R-$parity-violating supersymmetry wit…
The parameter space of the phenomenological MSSM (pMSSM) is explored by means of Markov Chain Monte Charlo (MCMC) methods, taking into account the latest LHC results on the Higgs signal at 125 GeV in addition to relevant low-energy observables and LEP constraints. We use a Bayesian approach to derive posterior densities for the parameters and observables of interests. We find in particular that the Higgs measurements have a significant impact on the parameters mu and tan beta due to radiative corrections to the bottom Yukawa coupling. We show moreover the impact of the most recent dark matter …
Recently, the Fermi-LAT collaboration reported upper limits on the GeV gamma-ray flux from nearby clusters of galaxies. Motivated by these limits, we study corresponding constraints on gamma-ray emissions from two specific decaying dark matter models, one via grand unification scale suppressed operators and the other via R-parity violating operators. Both can account for the PAMELA and Fermi-LAT excesses of e^\pm. For GUT decaying dark matter, the gamma-rays from the M49 and Fornax clusters, with energy in the range of 1 to 10 GeV, lead to the most stringent constraints to date. As a result, t…
The decay of dark matter is predicted by many theoretical models and can produce observable contributions to the cosmic-ray fluxes. I shortly discuss the interpretation of the positron and electron excess as observed by PAMELA and Fermi LAT in terms of decaying dark matter, and I point out the implications for the Fermi LAT observations of the gamma-ray flux with emphasis on its dipole-like anisotropy.
We study a two Higgs doublet model augmented by a scalar dark matter particle that provides an excellent fit to the LHC Higgs data and the Fermi-LAT 135 GeV line. The heavy CP-even Higgs boson, which predominantly mediates annihilation and scattering, must have a coupling to weak gauge bosons at or below percent level to suppress the continuum gamma-ray spectrum below the limit from the Fermi-LAT data and the anti-proton spectrum constrained by the PAMELA data. Discovering or excluding this CP-even Higgs boson at the LHC with a mass between 265 and 280 GeV and an enhanced diphoton branching ra…
We explore the ability of current and future dark matter and collider experiments in probing anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$, within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We find that the latest PandaX-II/LUX-2016 data gives a strong constraint on parameter space that accommodates the $(g-2)_μ$ within $2σ$ range, which will be further excluded by the upcoming XENON-1T (2017) experiment. We also find that a 100 TeV $pp$ collider can cover most of our surviving samples that satisfy DM relic density within $3σ$ range through $Z$ or $h$ resonant effect by searching for…
We combine the data from PAMELA and FERMI-LAT cosmic ray experiments by introducing a simple sum rule. This allows to investigate whether the lepton excess observed by these experiments is charge symmetric or not. We also show how the data can be used to predict the positron fraction at energies yet to be explored by the AMS-02 experiment.
We model the CR leptonic fluxes above 20 GeV in terms of a superposition of a standard and a charge symmetric extra component, which we generically describe as power-laws in momentum. We investigate under these hypotheses the compatibility between AMS-02, Fermi-LAT and PAMELA datasets on positron fraction, electron+positron spectrum and electron spectrum respectively. We find that it is possible to reconcile AMS and Fermi-LAT data within uncertainties, if energy-dependent effects are present in Fermi-LAT systematics. We also study possible deviations from charge symmetry in the extra component…
We examine the ability for the Large Area Telescope (LAT) to constrain Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) dark matter through a combined analysis of Milky Way dwarf spheroidal galaxies. We examine the Lightest Supersymmetric Particles (LSPs) for a set of ~71k experimentally valid supersymmetric models derived from the phenomenological-MSSM (pMSSM). We find that none of these models can be excluded at 95% confidence by the current analysis; nevertheless, many lie within the predicted reach of future LAT analyses. With two years of data, we find that the LAT is currently most sensitive…
We show that late Q-ball decay in the MSSM with gauge-mediated SUSY breaking can provide a natural source of non-thermal NLSPs which subsequently decay to gravitino dark matter without violating nucleosynthesis constraints. To show this, we perform a global analysis of Q-ball formation and decay in Affleck-Dine baryogenesis for a d = 6 (u^{c}d^{c}d^{c})^2 flat direction of the gauge-mediated MSSM. A general phenomenological potential for the flat-direction is studied and the Q-ball decay properties are obtained as a function of its parameters. The corresponding gravitino mass necessary to acco…
