The recent positron excess in cosmic rays (CR) observed by the PAMELA satellite may be a signal for dark matter (DM) annihilation. When these measurements are combined with those from FERMI on the total ($e^++e^-$) flux and from PAMELA itself on the $\bar p/p$ ratio, these and other results are difficult to reconcile with traditional models of DM, including the conventional mSUGRA version of Supersymmetry even if boosts as large as $10^{3-4}$ are allowed. In this paper, we combine the results of a previously obtained scan over a more general 19-parameter subspace of the MSSM with a corresponding scan over astrophysical parameters that describe the propagation of CR. We then ascertain whether or not a good fit to this CR data can be obtained with relatively small boost factors while simultaneously satisfying the additional constraints arising from gamma ray data. We find that a specific subclass of MSSM models where the LSP is mostly pure bino and annihilates almost exclusively into $τ$ pairs comes very close to satisfying these requirements. The lightest $\tilde τ$ in this set of models is found to be relatively close in mass to the LSP and is in some cases the nLSP. These models lead to a significant improvement in the overall fit to the data by an amount $Δχ^2 \sim 1/$dof in comparison to the best fit without Supersymmetry while employing boosts $\sim 100$. The implications of these models for future experiments are discussed.
We study the contribution of charginos and neutralinos of the Minimal SUSY extension of the Standard model (MSSM) to the 1-loop vertices ZAA, ZZA, ZZZ, and examine the related cancellation of anomalies. It is found that when the SUSY parameter μsatisfies |μ| >> M,M', m_W, the couplings of charginos and neutralinos with the gauge bosons become purely vectorial, and then their contribution to the amplitudes for ZAA, ZZA and ZZZ vanish, which implies that this sector of the MSSM does not generate a Wess-Zumino term. We evaluate also the contribution of charginos and neutralinos to the ρparameter,…
The current experimental values of anomalous magnetic moments of muon and electron deviate from the Standard Model predictions by few standard deviations, which might be a hint of new physics. The sizes and signs of these deviations are different and opposite between the electron and muon, which makes it difficult to explain both of these anomalies in a consistent model without introducing large flavour-violating effects. It is shown that they can be simultaneously explained in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) by arranging the sizes of bino-slepton and chargino-sneutrino contri…
The muon $g-2$ anomaly is a long-standing discrepancy from its standard model prediction. The recent improved measurement of the fine structure constant makes the electron $g-2$ anomaly very interesting for both sign and magnitude in comparison to the muon $g-2$ anomaly. In order to explain both muon and electron $g-2$ anomalies, we introduce flavor violation in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) as a low energy theory. The lepton flavor violating process $τ\to eγ$ is one the major constraints to explain both $g-2$ anomalies simultaneously emerging from flavor violating terms. We…
The recent experimental results including $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$, $(g-2)_μ$ and $W$ mass show deviations from the standard model (SM) predictions, implying the clues of new physics (NP). In this work, we investigate the explanations of these anomalies in the $R$-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (RPV-MSSM) extended with the inverse seesaw mechanism. The non-unitarity extent $η_{ee}$ and the loop corrections from the interaction $λ'\hat L \hat Q \hat D$ are utilized to raise the prediction of $W$ mass through muon decays. We also find that the interaction $λ'\ha…
Inspired by the recent experimental results which show deviations from the standard model (SM) predictions of $b\rightarrow s \ell^+\ell^-$ transitions, we study the $R$-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (RPV-MSSM) extended by the inverse seesaw mechanism. The trilinear $R$-parity violating terms, together with the chiral mixing of sneutrinos, induce the loop contributions to the $b\rightarrow s \ell^+\ell^-$ anomaly. We study the parameter space of the single-parameter scenario $C^{\rm NP}_{9,μ}=-C^{\rm NP}_{10,μ}=C_{\rm V}$ and the double-parameter scenario $(C_{\rm V},C…
In recent years, several deviations from the Standard Model predictions in semileptonic decays of $B$-meson might suggest the existence of new physics which would break the lepton-flavour universality. In this work, we have explored the possibility of using muon sneutrinos and right-handed sbottoms to solve these $B$-physics anomalies simultaneously in $R$-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model. We find that the photonic penguin induced by exchanging sneutrino can provide sizable lepton flavour universal contribution due to the existence of logarithmic enhancement for the first…
In this work we show that the general singlet extension of the MSSM can naturally provide a self-interacting singlino dark matter to solve the small cosmological scale anomalies (a large Sommerfeld enhancement factor can also be obtained). However, we find that the NMSSM (the singlet extension of the MSSM with Z3 symmetry) cannot achieve this due to the restricted parameter space. In our analysis we introduce the concept of symmetric and antisymmetric viscosity cross sections to deal with the non-relativistic Majorana-fermion dark matter scattering.
Motivated by tensions between experimental measurements and SM predictions in $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ transitions, we present the first study of non-minimal flavour-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) scenarios contributing to the relevant Wilson coefficients to address the observed anomalies using SuperIso and MARTY. We calculate the full one-loop analytical contributions of the general MSSM to Wilson coefficients relevant for flavour anomalies, together with the anomalous muon magnetic dipole moment $(g-2)_μ$. We show that, after imposing theoretical constraints on the flavo…
This Thesis reviews an extension of the MSSM by the addition of an anomalous abelian vector multiplet and contains some original results concerning the phenomenology of an anomalous $Z'$. The review part covers an introduction of the MSSM focusing on its main features, a discussion on the chiral anomalies and how to cancel them in the Standard Model and by the Green-Schwarz mechanism. Then, the original results are presented. We build the Lagrangian for the Minimal Anomalous $U(1)'$ Extension of the MSSM where the anomalies are cancelled by the Green-Schwarz mechanism and the addition of Chern…
The recent intriguing measurements of $R_{K}$ and $R_{K^*}$ are important hints of new physics that violates lepton universality. We analyze the semileptonic decays $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ in the framework of the $B-L$ extension of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with Inverse Seesaw (BLSSMIS). A salient feature of this model is that one of the right-handed sneutrino can be light and the neutrino Yukawa couplings are of order one. We show that the box diagram mediated by right-handed sneutrino, higgsino-like chargino, and light stop can account simultaneously for both $R_{K}$ and $…
The recent Fermilab muon $g-2$ result and the same for electron due to fine-structure constant measurement through ${}^{133}{\rm Cs}$ matter-wave interferometry are probed in relation to MSSM with non-holomorphic (NH) trilinear soft SUSY breaking terms, referred as NHSSM. Supersymmetric contributions to charged lepton $(g-2)_l$ can be enhanced via the new trilinear terms involving a wrong Higgs coupling with left and right-handed scalars. Unlike many MSSM based analyses, the model does not require a light electroweakino, or light sleptons, or unequal left and right slepton masses, or a very la…
Compactification of the heterotic string on toroidal orbifolds is a promising set-up for the construction of realistic unified models of particle physics. The target space dynamics of such models, however, drives them slightly away from the orbifold point in moduli space. This resolves curvature singularities, but makes the string computations very difficult. On these smooth manifolds we have to rely on an effective supergravity approximation in the large volume limit. By comparing an orbifold example with its blow-up version, we try to transfer the computational power of the orbifold to the s…
Motivated by the $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ anomalies from B decays, we extend the minimal supersymmetric model with a non-universal anomaly-free $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry, coupling non-universally to the lepton sector as well as the quark sector. In particular, only the third generation quarks are charged under this $U(1)^\prime$, which can easily evade the dilepton bound from the LHC searches. An extra singlet is introduced to break this $U(1)^\prime$ symmetry allowing for the $μ$-term to be generated dynamically. The relevant constraints of $B_s-\bar{B}_s$ mixing, $D^0-\bar{D}^0$ mixing and the…
Recent results from direct detection experiments (Dama, CoGeNT), though subject to debate, seem to point toward a low mass (few GeV) dark matter (DM) particle. However, low mass DM candidates are not easily achieved in the MSSM nor NMSSM. As shown by some authors, singlet extensions of the MSSM can lead to GeV mass neutralinos and satisfy relic abundance constraints. We propose here to extract indirect detection constraints on these models in a generic way from cosmic-ray anti-proton measurements (PAMELA data)
I introduce the critical pomeron theory ("white pomeron") proposed by Alan White, with its prediction of excessive WW and ZZ production at the LHC especially by double pomeron exchange (DPE), which is a crucial test. This theory implies dramatic effects in cosmic rays, possibly explaining the knee and high ET jet excesses. Some of the ultra high energy (UHE) cosmic rays may be "Superbaryons" made of color sextet Quarks, and most (all?) UHE collisions in the atmosphere may produce W's and Z's.
We consider a general symmetric $(3\times 3)$ mass matrix for three generations of neutrinos. Imposing the constraints, from the atmospheric neutrino and solar neutrino anomalies as well as from the CHOOZ experiment, on the mass squared differences and on the mixing angles, we identify the ranges of allowed inputs for the 6 matrix elements. We apply our results to Majorana left-handed neutrino masses generated at tree level and through fermion--sfermion loop diagrams in the MSSM with R-parity violation. The present experimental results on neutrinos from laboratories, cosmology and astrophysics…
We point out that there are regions in the MSSM parameter space which successfully provide a dark matter (DM) annihilation explanation for observed positron excess (e.g. PAMELA), while still remaining in agreement with all other data sets. Such regions (e.g. the uplifted Higgs region) can realize an enhanced neutralino DM annihilation dominantly into leptons via a Breit-Wigner resonance through the CP-odd Higgs channel. Such regions can give the proper thermal relic DM abundance, and the DM annihilation products are compatible with current antiproton and gamma ray observations. This scenario c…
In this paper, we consider a solution to explain the three discrepancies with the standard model (SM) predictions in flavor observables, i.e. anomalies in $B\rightarrow K^\astμ^+μ^-$ and $R_K=\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow Kμ^+μ^-)/\mathcal{B}(B\rightarrow K e^+e^-)$ at the LHCb and an excess in $h\rightarrow μτ$ at the CMS in the context of R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetry. We demonstrate that these anomalies can be explained within a unified framework: the minimal supersymmetry model (MSSM) extended with $5+\overline{5}$ vectorlike (VL) particles. The new trilinear RPV couplings involving VL…
We present an R-parity conserving model of sneutrino dark matter within a Higgs-philic U(1)' extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In this theory, the mu parameter and light Dirac neutrino masses are generated naturally upon the breaking of the U(1)' gauge symmetry. The leptonic and hadronic decays of sneutrinos in this model, taken to be the lightest and next-to-lightest superpartners, allow for a natural fit to the recent results reported by the PAMELA experiment.
The supersymmetric models extending the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) by an additional Abelian gauge factor U(1)' in order to solve the mu problem do generically suffer from anomalies disrupting the gauge coupling unification found in the MSSM. The anomalies are absent if the minimal matter content necessitated by the mu problem is augmented with exotic matter species having appropriate quantum numbers. Recently, it has been shown that anomaly cancellation can also be accomplished by introducing family non-universal U(1)' charges and non-holomoprhic soft-breaking terms. We discu…
An extended seesaw model proposed to achieve low scale leptogenesis can resolve the excess positron and electron fluxes observed from PAMELA, ATIC and/or Fermi-LAT, and simultaneously accommodate some of recent experimental results for dark matter (DM) signals. In this approach, in addition to SU(2)_L doublet and the (light) singlet Higgs fields, an extra vector-like singlet neutrino and a singlet scalar field, which are coexisting two-particle dark matter candidates, are responsible for the origin of the excess positron and electron fluxes to resolve the PAMELA, ATIC and/or Fermi-LAT anomalie…
The anomalies observed in recent cosmic ray experiments seem to strongly constrain the nature of the dark matter. In this letter, we investigate a possibility of the fermionic dark matter with a minimal extension of the standard model. We found that the dark matter decays caused by the dimension six operators can naturally explain the anomalies.
An analysis of radiative decays of the neutrinos $ν_j\to ν_l γ$ is discussed in MSSM extensions with a vector like lepton generation. Specifically we compute neutrino decays arising from the exchange of charginos and charged sleptons where the photon is emitted by the charged particle in the loop. It is shown that while the lifetime of the neutrino decay in the Standard Model is $\sim 10^{43}$ yrs for a neutrino mass of 50 meV, the current lower limit from experiment from the analysis of the Cosmic Infrared Background is $\sim 10^{12}$ yrs and thus beyond the reach of experiment in the foresee…
Motivated by the recent results from the PAMELA and ATIC, we study the cosmic-ray electron and positron produced by the decay of gravitino dark matter. We calculate the cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes and discuss implications to the PAMELA and ATIC data. In this paper, we will show that the observed anomalous fluxes by the PAMELA and ATIC can be explained in such a scenario. We will also discuss the synchrotron radiation flux from the Galactic center in such a scenario.
We revisit sneutrino dark matter in light of the recent results from the PAMELA and ATIC experiments. In the U(1)_B-L extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model the right-handed sneutrino is a natural candidate for thermal dark matter. Sneutrino annihilation at the present time can be considerably enhanced due to the exchange of the lightest field in the Higgs sector that breaks U(1)_B-L. The annihilation mainly produces taus (or muons) by the virtue of B-L charges. A sneutrino mass in the 1-2 TeV range provides a good fit to the PAMELA data and a reasonable fit to the ATIC data. W…
Some direct detection experiments have recently collected excess events that could be interpreted as a dark matter (DM) signal, pointing to particles in the $\sim$10 GeV mass range. We show that scenarios in which DM can self-annihilate with significant couplings to quarks are likely excluded by the cosmic-ray (CR) antiproton data, provided the annihilation is S-wave dominated when DM decouples in the early universe. These limits apply to most of supersymmetric candidates, eg in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and in the next-to-MSSM (NMSSM), and more generally to any thermal …
From special relativity, photon annihilation process \HepProcess{{\Pgg}{\Pgg}{\to}{\Pep}{\Pem}} prevents cosmic photons with energies above a threshold to propagate a long distance in cosmic space due to their annihilation with low energy cosmic background photons. However, modifications of the photon dispersion relation from Lorentz invariance violation~(LIV) can cause novel phenomena beyond special relativity to happen. In this paper, we point out that these phenomena include optical transparency, threshold reduction and reappearance of ultra-high energy photons in cosmic space. The recent o…
In this work, we classify all the effective $U(1)$ symmetries and their associated Noether charges in the Standard Model (SM) and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) from the highest scale after inflation down to the weak scale. We then demonstrate that the discovery of the violation of baryon minus lepton number ($B-L$) which pinpoints to its violation in primordial Universe at any cosmic temperature above $30$ TeV will open up a new window of baryogenesis in these effective charges above this scale. While the fast SM baryon number violation in the early Universe could be the first pi…
We propose a new mechanism for explaining the very long lifetime of superheavy dark matter X, which is proposed as a source of the ultra high-energy cosmic rays above the GZK cutoff (5 \times 10^{19} eV). The singlet X particle couples to the MSSM particles only through a bulk singlet field which develops the v.e.v. in the ``hidden'' brane. The distance between this hidden brane and the ``visible'' brane naturally leads to the exponential suppression of the coupling. The X particle decays predominantly into the higgsino and higgs boson of the MSSM, and its decay spectrum is completely determin…
We propose an inflationary primordial feature model that can explain both the large and small-scale anomalies in the currently measured cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy spectra, revealing a clip of adventurous history of the Universe during its primordial epoch. Although the model is currently statistically indistinguishable from the Standard Model, we show that future observations such as the Simons Observatory and LiteBIRD will complement each other in distinguishing the model differences due to their accurate E-mode polarization measurements, and the PICO mission, if funded, can…
Dark matter particles need not be completely stable, and in fact they may be decaying now. We consider this possibility in the frameworks of universal extra dimensions and supersymmetry with very late decays of WIMPs to Kaluza-Klein gravitons and gravitinos. The diffuse photon background is a sensitive probe, even for lifetimes far greater than the age of the Universe. Remarkably, both the energy spectrum and flux of the observed MeV gamma ray excess may be naturally explained by decaying dark matter with MeV mass splittings. Future observations of continuum and line photon fluxes will test th…
We consider a scenario within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model extended by a singlet chiral superfield, in which neutralino dark matter annihilates to light singlet-like Higgs bosons, which proceed to decay to either electron-positron or muon-antimuon pairs. Unlike neutralino annihilations in the MSSM, this model can provide a good fit to the PAMELA cosmic ray positron fraction excess. Furthermore, the singlet-like scalar Higgs can induce a large Sommerfeld enhancement and provide an annihilation rate sufficient to accommodate the observed positron excess.
Recent anomalies in cosmic rays could be due to dark matter annihilation in our galaxy. In order to get the required large cross-section to explain the data while still obtaining the right relic density, we rely on a non standard thermal history between dark matter freeze-out and Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). We show that through a reheating phase from the decay of a heavy moduli or even the gravitino, we can produce the right relic density of dark matter if its self-annihilation cross-section is large enough. In addition to fitting the recent data, this scenario solves the cosmological modu…
Cosmic strings formed during inflation are expected to be either diluted over super-Hubble distances, i.e., invisible today, or to have crossed our past light cone very recently. We discuss the latter situation in which a few strings imprint their signature in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Anisotropies after recombination. Being almost frozen in the Hubble flow, these strings are quasi static and evade almost all of the previously derived constraints on their tension while being able to source large scale anisotropies in the CMB sky. Using a local variance estimator on thousand of nume…
By extending the lepton sector of standard model to include one sterile neutrino and two sets of new Higgs doublets and right-handed neutrinos, denoted by $(η_1, N_1, N_3)$ and $(η_2, N_2, N_4)$, with two $Z_2$ symmetries, the puzzles of neutrino masses, matter-antimatter asymmetry and cosmic-ray excess observed by Fermi-LAT and PAMELA can be resolved simultaneously. The characters of the model are: (a) neutrino masses arise from type-I and radiative seesaw mechanisms; (b) leptogenesis leading to baryon asymmetry at the energy scale of $O(1- 10\rm TeV)$ could be realized through soft $Z_2$ sym…
We study the charged cosmic rays arising from the slow decay of gravitino dark matter within supersymmetric scenarios with trilinear R-parity violation. It is shown that operators of the LLE type can very well account for the recent anomalies in cosmic ray electron and positron data reported by PAMELA, ATIC and Fermi LAT, without violating any other bounds. This scenario will soon be tested by the Fermi LAT data on diffuse gamma ray emission.
Persistent excesses in the spectra of gamma rays from the galactic center and cosmic ray antiprotons can be explained by dark matter of mass $50\sim 65$\,GeV annihilating into $b$ quarks, but this is typically hard to reconcile with direct detection constraints. We resolve this tension using a simple class of models, where dark matter is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson, having naturally momentum-suppressed couplings to nuclei. Exploring the parameter space of the model, we find that it can explain the cosmic ray anomalies while remaining compatible with constraints from the relic abundance and …
Measurements of proton and nuclear collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at nucleon-nucleon c.m. energies up to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 13 TeV, have improved our understanding of hadronic interactions at the highest energies reached in collisions of cosmic rays with nuclei in the earth atmosphere, up to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\approx 450$ TeV. The Monte Carlo event generators (EPOS, QGSJET, and SIBYLL) commonly used to describe the air showers generated by ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHECR, with $E_{CR}\approx 10^{17}$--$10^{20}$ eV) feature now, after parameter retuning based on LHC Run-I data, more cons…
The recently observed ultra-high energy (UHE) cosmic rays beyond the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin bound can be explained by the decays of some superheavy $X$ particles forming a part of dark matter in our universe. We consider various discrete gauge symmetries ${\bf Z}_N$ to ensure the required long lifetime ($τ_X \simeq 10^{10}-10^{22} years$) of the $X$ particle to explain the UHE cosmic rays in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with massive Majorana neutrinos. We show that there is no anomaly-free discrete gauge symmetry to make the lifetime of the $X$ particle sufficiently long i…
There are presently several discrepancies in $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays of $B$ mesons suggesting new physics coupling to $b$ quarks and leptons. We show that a $Z'$, with couplings to quarks and muons that can explain the $B$-decay anomalies, can also couple to dark matter in a way that is consistent with its relic abundance, direct detection limits, and hints of indirect detection. The latter include possible excess events in antiproton spectra recently observed by the AMS-02 experiment. We present two models, having a heavy (light) $Z'$ with $m_{Z'}\sim 600\,(12)\,$GeV and fermionic dark…
In light of recent observations of an anomalous excess of high-energy positrons and electrons by the PAMELA and Fermi LAT experiments, we investigate exotic cosmic-ray signatures in scenarios with unstable dark matter that decays with an extremely long lifetime. We identify decay modes capable of explaining the observed anomalies and mention constraints arising from measurements of antiprotons and gamma rays. We also discuss complementary tests by measurements of anisotropies in diffuse gamma rays which should be accessible to Fermi.
In this thesis, I describe in great detail the physics of the decay of any Super-Heavy X particle (with masses up to the grand unification scale ~ 10^16 GeV and possibly beyond), and the computer code I developed to model this process - which currently is the most complete available one. The general framework for this work is the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The results are presented in the form of fragmentation functions of any (s)particle of the MSSM into any final stable particle (proton, photon, electron, three types of neutrino, lightest superparticle LSP) at a virtuality…
We study a scenario that a U(1) hidden gaugino constitutes the dark matter in the Universe and decays into a lepton and slepton pair through a mixing with a U(1)B-L gaugino. We find that the dark-matter decay can account for the recent PAMELA and ATIC anomalies in the cosmic-ray positrons and electrons without an overproduction of antiprotons.
We explore the dark matter sector in extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) that can provide a good fit to the PAMELA cosmic ray positron excess, while at the same time addressing the little hierarchy problem of the MSSM. Adding a singlet Higgs superfield, S, can account for the observed positron excess, as recently discussed in the literature, but we point out that it requires a fine-tuned choice for the parameters of the model. We find that including an additional singlet allows both a reduction of the weak-scale fine-tuning, and an interpretation of the cosmic ray ob…
We propose a simple model of supersymmetric dark matter that can explain recent results from PAMELA and ATIC experiments. It is based on a U(1)_B-L extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The dark matter particle is a linear combination of the U(1)_B-L gaugino and Higgsino partners of Higgs fields that break the B-L around one TeV. The dominant mode of dark matter annihilation is to the lightest of the new Higgs fields, which has a mass in the GeV range, and its subsequent decay mainly produces taus or muons by the virtue of B-L charges. This light Higgs also results in Sommerf…
The flux of cosmic ray antiprotons from neutralino annihilations in the galactic halo is computed for a large sample of models in the MSSM (the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model). We also revisit the problem of estimating the background of low-energy cosmic ray induced secondary antiprotons, taking into account their subsequent interactions (and energy loss) and the presence of nuclei in the interstellar matter. We consider a two-zone diffusion model, with and without a galactic wind. We find that, given the uncertainties in the background predictions, there is no need for…
The PAMELA and ATIC collaborations have recently reported an excess in the cosmic ray positron and electron fluxes. These lepton anomalies might be related to cold dark matter (CDM) particles annihilating within a nearby dark matter clump. We outline regions of the parameter space for both the dark matter subhalo and particle model, where data from the different experiments are reproduced. We then confront this interpretation of the data with the results of the cosmological N-body simulation Via Lactea II. Having a sizable clump (Vmax = 9km/s) at a distance of only 1.2 kpc could explain the PA…
Cosmic rays are nowadays a crucial tool to study the astrophysics of extreme objects in the Universe, the cosmic environmental plasma (both Galactic and extra-galactic), the physics of nuclear interactions or the properties of elementary particles at very high energies and even cosmological problems such as the dark matter puzzle. In this thesis, the phenomenology on the transport of Galactic cosmic rays is studied in light of the most recent experimental data in the field and new analyses are presented in order to obtain better constraints. Throughout the thesis, secondary particles produced …
Annihilating dark matter (DM) models based on a scalar hidden sector with Higgs portal-like couplings to the Standard Model are considered as a possible explanation for recently observed cosmic ray excesses. Two versions of the model are studied, one with non-thermal DM as the origin of the boost factor and one with Sommerfeld enhancement. In the case of non-thermal DM, four hidden sector scalars which transform under a U(1)_{X} symmetry are added. The heaviest scalars decouple and later decay to DM scalars, so providing the boost factor necessary to explain the present DM annihilation rate. T…
We suppose that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) is the dark matter. The bino-like LSP can decay through the SO(10) gauge interactions, if one right-handed (RH) neutrino (ν^c_1) is lighter than the LSP and its superpartner (\tildeν^c_1) develops a vacuum expectation value (VEV), raising extremely small R-parity violation naturally. The leptonic decay modes can be dominant, if the VEV scale of {\bf 16}_H is a few orders of magnitude lower than the VEV of {\bf 45}_H (\approx 10^{16} GeV), and if a slepton (\tilde{e}^c_1) is relatively…
Multistate dark matter (DM) models with small mass splittings and couplings to light hidden sector bosons have been proposed as an explanation for the PAMELA/Fermi/H.E.S.S. high-energy lepton excesses. We investigate this proposal over a wide range of DM density profiles, in the framework of concrete models with doublet or triplet dark matter and a hidden SU(2) gauge sector that mixes with standard model hypercharge. The gauge coupling is bounded from below by the DM relic density, and the Sommerfeld enhancement factor is explicitly computable for given values of the DM and gauge boson masses …
We show how cosmic gamma rays can be used to constrain models of asymmetric Dark Matter decaying into lepton pairs by violating flavor. First of all we require the models to explain the anomalies in the charged cosmic rays measured by PAMELA, FERMI and HESS; performing combined fits we determine the allowed values of the Dark Matter mass and lifetime. For these models, we then determine the constraints coming from the measurement of the isotropic gamma-ray background by FERMI for a complete set of lepton flavor violating primary modes and over a range of DM masses from 100 GeV to 10 TeV. We fi…
A threshold anomaly refers to a theoretically expected energy threshold that is not observed experimentally. Here we offer an explanation of the threshold anomalies encountered in the ultra-high energy cosmic ray events and the TeV-gamma ray events, by arguing that energy-momentum uncertainties due to quantum gravity, too small to be detected in low-energy regime, can affect particle kinematics so as to raise or even eliminate the energy thresholds. A possible modification of the energy-momentum dispersion relation, giving rise to time-of-flight differences between photons of different energie…
A Lorentz-noninvariant modification of the kinematic dispersion law was proposed in [hep-th/0211237], claimed to be derivable from from q-deformed noncommutative theory, and argued to evade ultrahigh energy threshold anomalies (trans-GKZ-cutoff cosmic rays and TeV-photons) by raising the respective thresholds. It is pointed out that such dispersion laws do not follow from deformed oscillator systems, and the proposed dispersion law is invalidated by tachyonic propagation, as well as photon instability, in addition to the process considered.
The residuals of the power spectra of WMAP and Planck's cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies data are known to exhibit a few interesting anomalies at different scales with marginal statistical significance. Combining bottom-up and top-down model-building approaches and using a pipeline that efficiently compares model predictions with data, we construct a model of primordial standard clock that is able to link and address the anomalies at both the large and small scales. This model, and its variant, provide some of the best fits to the feature anomalies in CMB. According to Bayes evid…
