We provide a full quantum mechanical analysis of a weak energy measurement of a driven mechanical resonator. We demonstrate that measurements too weak to resolve individual mechanical Fock states can nonetheless be used to unambiguously detect the non-classical energy fluctuations of the driven mechanical resonator, i.e. "phonon shot noise". We also show that the third moment of the oscillator's energy fluctuations provides a far more sensitive probe of quantum effects than the second moment, and that measuring the third moment via the phase shift of light in an optomechanical setup directly yields the type of operator ordering postulated in the theory of full-counting statistics.
In this paper we investigate the spin-current and its shot-noise spectrum in a single-molecule quantum dot coupled with a local phonon mode. We pay special attention on the effect of phonon on the quantum transport property. The spin-polarization dependent current is generated by a rotating magnetic filed applied in the quantum dot. Our results show the remarkable influence of phonon mode on the zero-frequency shot noise. The electron-phonon interaction leads to sideband peaks which are located exactly on the integer number of the phonon frequency and moreover the peak-height is sensitive to t…
Using the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green function technique, we study the current and shot noise spectroscopy of a single molecular quantum dot coupled to a local phonon mode. It is found that in the presence of electron-phonon coupling, in addition to the resonant peak associated with the single level of the dot, satellite peaks with the separation set by the frequency of phonon mode appear in the differential conductance. In the ``single level'' resonant tunneling region, the differential shot noise power exhibit two split peaks. However, only single peaks show up in the ``phonon assisted'' re…
We have measured shot noise in metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes of length L=1 $μ$m and have found strong suppression of noise with increasing voltage. We conclude that the coupling of electron and phonon baths at temperatures $T_e$ and $T_{ph}$ is described at intermediate bias (20 mV $<$ \vv $\lesssim $ 200 mV) by heat flow equation $P=ΣL (T_e^3-T_{ph}^3)$ where $Σ\sim 3 \cdot 10^{-9}$ W/mK$^3$ due to electron interaction with acoustic phonons, while at higher voltages optical phonon - electron interaction leads to $P =κ_{op} L [N (T_e)-N(T_{ph})]$ where $N(T)= 1/(\exp(\hbarΩ/k_BT)-1)$…
We investigate the effect of electron-phonon inelastic scattering on shot noise in nanoscale junctions in the regime of quasi-ballistic transport. We predict that when the local temperature of the junction is larger than its lowest vibrational mode energy $eV_c$, the inelastic contribution to shot noise (conductance) increases (decreases) with bias as $V$ ($\sqrt{V}$). The corresponding Fano factor thus increases as $\sqrt{V}$. We also show that the inelastic contribution to the Fano factor saturates with increasing thermal current exchanged between the junction and the bulk electrodes to a va…
We investigate the electronic transport through a single molecule in a strong electron-phonon coupling regime. Based on a particle-hole transformation which is made suitable for non-equilibrium situation, we treat the pair tunneling and cotunneling on an equal footing. We propose an experimental setup to enhance the visibility of pair tunneling, which has no Franck-Condon suppression. We also discuss the shot noise characteristics.
We present a theoretical analysis of the effect of inelastic electron scattering on current and its fluctuations in a mesoscopic quantum dot (QD) connected to two leads, based on a recently developed nonperturbative technique involving the approximate mapping of the many-body electron-phonon coupling problem onto a multichannel single-electron scattering problem. In this, we apply the Büttiker scattering theory of shot noise for a two-terminal mesoscopic device to the multichannel case with differing weight factors and examine zero-frequency shot noise for two special cases: (i) a single-molec…
Using the 'drift-diffusion-Langevin' equation, we have quantitatively analyzed the effects of electron energy relaxation via their interaction with phonons, generally in presence of electron-electron interaction, on shot noise in diffusive conductors. We have found that the noise power $ S_I(ω)$ (both at low and high observation frequencies $ω$) drops to half of its 'mesoscopic' value only at $β\gtrsim 100,$ where $β$ is the ratio of the sample length $L$ to the energy relaxation length $l_{% {\rm ph}}$ (the latter may be much larger then the dephasing length). It means in particular that at l…
There exists a fascinating dual representation of the electric ac current flowing through a normal conductor. On the one hand, it can be understood in terms of charge transport. On the other hand, it consists in an electomagnetic field guided by conducting structures embedded in an insulator. The former point of view, in its quantum version, is particularly adapted to describe the electron shot noise in a coherent conductor, like a tunnel junction at ultra-low temperature. However, when the junction is appropriately biased by a dc and an ac voltage, the noise it generates is best analyzed usin…
We have studied electronic conductivity and shot noise of bilayer graphene (BLG) sheets at high bias voltages and low bath temperature $T_0=4.2$ K. As a function of bias, we find initially an increase of the differential conductivity, which we attribute to self-heating. At higher bias, the conductivity saturates and even decreases due to backscattering from optical phonons. The electron-phonon interactions are also responsible for the decay of the Fano factor at bias voltages $V>0.1$ V. The high bias electronic temperature has been calculated from shot noise measurements, and it goes up to $\s…
In this paper, we analyze vibration-assisted sequential tunneling (including current-voltage characteristics and zero-frequency shot noise) through a molecular quantum dot with two electronic orbitals asymmetrically coupled to the internal vibration. We employ rate equations for the case of equilibrated phonons, and strong Coulomb blockade. We find that a system with a strongly phonon-coupled ground state orbital and weakly phonon-coupled excited state orbital exhibits strong negative differential conductance; and it also shows super-Poissonian current noise. We discuss in detail the reasons a…
Shot noise is a powerful tool to probe correlations and microscopic transport details that conductance measurements alone cannot reveal. Even in atomic-scale Au devices that are well described by Landauer-B{ü}ttiker physics, complications remain such as local heating and electron-phonon interactions. We report systematic rf measurements of shot noise in individual atomic-scale gold break junctions at multiple temperatures, with most bias voltages well above the energy of the Au optical phonon mode. Motivated by the previous experimental evidence that electron-phonon interactions can modify Fan…
We have recently calculated shot noise for entangled and spin-polarized electrons in novel beam-splitter geometries with a local Rashba s-o interaction in the incoming leads. This interaction allows for a gate-controlled rotation of the incoming electron spins. Here we present an alternate simpler route to the shot noise calculation in the above work and focus on only electron pairs. Shot noise for these shows continuous bunching and antibunching behaviors. In addition, entangled and unentangled triplets yield distinctive shot noise oscillations. Besides allowing for a direct way to identify t…
Here we present a theoretical analysis of the effect of inelastic electron scattering on spin-dependent transport characteristics (conductance, current-voltage dependence, magnetoresistance, shot noise spectrum, Fano factor) for magnetic nanojunction. Such device is composed of molecular quantum dot (with discrete energy levels)connected to ferromagnetic electrodes (treated within the wide-band approximation), where molecular vibrations are modeled as dispersionless phonons. Non-perturbative computational scheme, used in this work, is based on the Green's function theory within the framework o…
We explore phonon-mediated quantum transport through electronic noise characterization of a commercial CMOS transistor. The device behaves as a single electron transistor thanks to a single impurity atom in the channel. A low noise cryogenic CMOS transimpedance amplifier is exploited to perform low-frequency noise characterization down to the single electron, single donor and single phonon regime simultaneously, not otherwise visible through standard stability diagrams. Single electron tunneling as well as phonon-mediated features emerges in rms-noise measurements. Phonons are emitted at high …
We analyze heat current fluctuations between electrons and phonons in a metal. In equilibrium we recover the standard result consistent with the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. Here we show that heat current noise at finite frequencies, remains non-vanishing down to zero temperature. We briefly discuss the impact of electron-phonon heat current fluctuations on calorimetry, in particular in the regime of single microwave-photon detection.
We study transport between Quantum Hall (QH) edge states at filling factor $ν= 1$ in the presence of electron-acoustic-phonon coupling. Performing a Bogoliubov-Valatin (BV) trasformation the low-energy spectrum of interacting electron-phonon system is presented. The electron-phonon interaction splits the spectrum into charged and neutral "downstream" and neutral "upstream" modes with different velocities. In the regimes of dc and periodic ac biases the tunelling current and non-equilibrium finite frequency non-symmetrized noise are calculated perturbatively in tunneling coupling of quantum poi…
We investigate the effects of phonon scattering on the electronic current noise through nanojunctions using the non-equilibrium Green's functions formalism extended to include the counting field. In the case of weak electron-phonon coupling and a single broad electronic level we derive an analytic expression for the current noise at arbitrary temperature and identify physically distinct contributions based on their voltage dependence. We apply our theory to the experimentally relevant case of a deuterium molecule placed in a break-junction and predict a significant inelastic contribution to th…
We study backaction effects of phonon heating due to tunneling electrons on the current noise in atomic-sized junctions. Deriving a generalized kinetic approximation within the extended Keldysh Green's functions technique, we demonstrate the existence of a characteristic backaction contribution to the noise in case of low external phonon damping. We provide a physically intuitive interpretation of this contribution at large voltage in terms of slow fluctuations of the phonon occupation, and show that it generally gives a significant correction to the noise above the phonon emission threshold.
We have developed a quantum noise approach to study the phonon transport through nanostructures. The nanostructures acting as phonon channels are attached to two phonon reservoirs. And the temperature drop between the two reservoirs drives the phonon transport through the channels. We have derived a quantum Langevin equation(QLE) to describe the phonon transport with the quantum noise originated from the thermal fluctuation of the reservoirs. Within the Markov approximation, the QLE is used to get the thermal conductivity $κ$ of the nanostructures and the finite size effect of the $κ$ then is …
We report on electron cooling power measurements in few-layer graphene excited by Joule heating by means of a new setup combining electrical and optical probes of the electron and phonon baths temperatures. At low bias, noise thermometry allows us to retrieve the well known acoustic phonon cooling regimes below and above the Bloch Grüneisen temperature, with additional control over the phonon bath temperature. At high electrical bias, we show the relevance of direct optical investigation of the electronic temperature by means of black-body radiation measurements that provide higher accuracy th…
By using nonequilibrium Green's functions and the equation of motion method, we formulate a self-consistent field theory for the electron transport through a single molecular junction (SMJ) coupled with a vibrational mode. We show that the nonequilibrium dynamics of the phonons in strong electron-phonon coupling regime can be taken into account appropriately in this self-consistent perturbation theory, and the self-energy of phonons is connected with the current fluctuations in the molecular junction. We calculate the finite-frequency nonsymmetrized noise spectra and the ac conductance, which …
Shot noise, originating from the discrete nature of electric charge, is generated by scattering processes. Shot-noise measurements have revealed microscopic charge dynamics in various quantum transport phenomena. In particular, beyond the single-particle picture, such measurements have proved to be powerful ways to investigate electron correlation in quantum liquids. Here, we review the recent progress of shot-noise measurements in mesoscopic physics. This review summarizes the basics of shot-noise theory based on the Landauer-Büttiker formalism, measurement techniques used in previous studies…
In these notes we discuss the origin of shot noise ('Schroteffekt') of vacuum tubes in detail. It will be shown that shot noise observed in vacuum tubes and first described by W. Schottky in 1918 is a purely classical phenomenon. This is in pronounced contrast to shot noise investigated in mesoscopic conductors which is due to quantum mechanical diffraction of electron waves.
We study electron transport through a quantum dot, connected to non-magnetic leads, in a magnetic field. A super-Poissonian electron noise due to the effects of both interacting localized states and dynamic channel blockade is found when the Coulomb blockade is partially lifted. This is sharp contrast to the sub-Poissonian shot noise found in the previous studies for a large bias voltage, where the Coulomb blockade is completely lifted. Moreover, we show that the super-Poissonian shot noise can be suppressed by applying an electron spin resonance (ESR) driving field. For a sufficiently strong …
It is commonly maintained that entanglement is necessary to beat the shot noise limit in the sensitivity with which certain parameters can be measured in interferometric experiments. Here we show that, with a fluctuating number of two-mode bosons, the shot-noise limit can be beaten by non-entangled bosonic states with all bosons in one mode. For a given finite maximum number of bosons, we calculate the optimal one- and two-mode bosonic states, and show that in the absence of losses, NOON states are the optimal two-mode bosonic states.
We have analyzed the shot noise of electron emission under strong applied electric fields within the Landauer-Buttiker scheme. In contrast to the previous studies of vacuum-tube emitters, we show that in new generation electron emitters, scaled down to the nanometer dimensions, shot noise much smaller than the Schottky noise is observable. Carbon nanotube field emitters are among possible candidates to observe the effect of shot-noise suppression caused by quantum partitioning.
As reported recently, the 1/f noise intensity in both (Bi,Sb)2Te3 [Islam et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 111, 062107 (2017)] and BiSbTeSe1.6 [Biswas et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 115, 131601 (2019)] features noise peaks which develop at some specific temperatures. We compared this noise structure with either phonon density of states or Raman spectrum of each topological insulator (TI), respectively. In (BiSb)2Te3, the comparison revealed that the noise peaks track the van Hove singularities in the phonon density of states. It resulted that bulk atomic oscillators are responsible for the noise peaks. The…
In this paper, we present a method to investigate the spin-current shot noise in mesoscopic conductors, by using scattering matrix theory and Green's function technique. We first derive a general expression for the spin-current noise at zero-frequency limit, and extract the shot-noise component by discussing it at zero-temperature limit. The expression indicates that the spin-current shot noise in one lead is caused by the transmissions to the spin-resolved states in this lead and the interferences of these transmissions. As an application, we simulate the spin-current shot noise in a spin tra…
We prove the universality of shot-noise in multiterminal diffusive conductors of arbitrary shape and dimension for purely elastic scattering as well as for hot electrons. Using a Boltzmann-Langevin approach we reduce the calculation of shot-noise correlators to the solution of a diffusion equation. We show that shot-noise in multiterminal conductors is a non-local quantity and that exchange effects can occur without quantum phase coherence even at zero electron temperature. Concrete numbers for shot-noise are given that can be tested experimentally.
We have measured shot noise in single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) with good contacts at 4.2 K at low frequencies ($f=600 - 850$ MHz). We find a strong modulation of shot noise over the Fabry-Perot pattern; in terms of differential Fano factor the variation ranges over 0.4 - 1.2. The shot noise variation, in combination with differential conductance, is analyzed using two (spin-degenerate) modes with different, energy-dependent transmission coefficients. No power law dependence of shot noise, as expected for Luttinger liquids, was found in our measurements.
We show that pure dephasing of a quantum dot charge (excitonic) qubit may be reduced for sufficiently slow gating by collectively encoding quantum information in an array of quantum dots. We study the role of the size and structure of the array and of the exciton lifetime for the resulting total error of a single-qubit operation.
We study shot noise of the spin-polarized current in a diffusive ferromagnetic nanowire which contains a ballistic domain wall. We find that the existence of a short domain wall influences strongly the shot noise for sufficiently high spin-polarization of the wire. Compared to the situation of the absence of the domain wall, the shot noise can be reduced or enhanced depending on the length of the domain wall and its relative conductance.
We study the influence of inelastic processes on shot noise and the Fano factor for a one-dimensional double-barrier structure, where resonant tunneling takes place between two terminals. Most studies to date have found, by means of various approximate or phenomenological methods, that shot noise is insensitive to dephasing caused by inelastic scattering. In this paper, we explore the status of this statement by deriving a general Landaur-Büttiker-type formula that expresses the current noise and Fano factor in a one-dimensional conductor through inelastic scattering amplitudes. For a double-b…
We study a current shot noise in a macroscopic insulator based on a two-dimensional electron system in GaAs in a variable range hopping (VRH) regime. At low temperature and in a sufficiently depleted sample a shot noise close to a full Poissonian value is measured. This suggests an observation of a finite-size effect in shot noise in the VRH conduction and demonstrates a possibility of accurate quasiparticle charge measurements in the insulating regime.
We investigate the zero-frequency shot noise of electronic tunneling through a single quantum dot (SQD) and coherently coupled quantum dots (CQD) taking into account the Coulomb interaction. Within Hartree-Fock approximation, the analytical expressions of current and zero-frequency shot noise are self-consistently derived in the framework of full counting statistics for the both systems. We demonstrate that the correction term of zero-frequency shot noise induced by the intradot Coulomb interaction is almost negligible compared to the noninteracting shot noise in a SQD, while in a CQD the inte…
We have investigated the influence of shot noise on the IV-curves of a single mesoscopic Josephson junction. We observe a linear enhancement of zero-bias conductance of the Josephson junction with increasing shot noise power. Moreover, the IV-curves become increasingly asymmetric. Our analysis on the asymmetry shows that the Coulomb blockade of Cooper pairs is strongly influenced by the non-Gaussian character of the shot noise.
We present a resistance bridge which uses a SQUID to measure the shot noise in low impedance samples. The experimental requirements are high DC bias currents (typically 10mA) together with high AC sensitivity (pA/VHz). This system is used to investigate the shot noise in Superconductor/Normal/Superconductor junctions where Andreev reflection enhanced shot noise is expected. Because our setup has an intrinsic noise much smaller than the thermal noise of the resistance bridge at 4.2K, reliable results can be obtained on impedances out of the range of classical measurement schemes.
When subjected to electromagnetic radiation, the fluctuation of the electronic current across a quantum conductor increases. This additional noise, called photon-assisted shot noise, arises from the generation and subsequent partition of electron-hole pairs in the conductor. The physics of photon-assisted shot noise has been thoroughly investigated at microwave frequencies up to 20 GHz, and its robustness suggests that it could be extended to the Terahertz (THz) range. Here, we present measurements of the quantum shot noise generated in a graphene nanoribbon subjected to a THz radiation. Our r…
We present a new scheme to detect the quantum shot noise in coupled mesoscopic systems. By applying the noise thermometry to the capacitively coupled quantum point contacts (QPCs) we prove that the noise temperature of one QPC is in perfect proportion to that of the other QPC which is driven to non-equilibrium to generate quantum shot noise. We also found an unexpected effect that the noise in the source QPC is remarkably suppressed possibly due to the cooling effect by the detector QPC.
This article discusses quantum fluctuation properties of a crystal lattice, and in particular, phonon squeezed states. Squeezed states of phonons allow a reduction in the quantum fluctuations of the atomic displacements to below the zero-point quantum noise level of coherent phonon states. Here we discuss our studies of both continuous-wave and impulsive second-order Raman scattering mechanisms. The later approach was used to experimentally suppress (by one part in a million only, which might be noise) fluctuations in phonons (and it has not been clearly reproduced by other experimental groups…
We argue that the nearly 1/3 suppression of shot noise in nondegenerate diffusive contacts recently obtained by Gonzalez et al. (cond-mat/9803372) is due to the specific choice of the energy-independent elastic scattering time.
We have investigated the noise properties of the tunneling current through vertically coupled self-assembled InAs quantum dots. We observe super-Poissonian shot noise at low temperatures. For increased temperature this effect is suppressed. The super-Poissonian noise is explained by capacitive coupling between different stacks of quantum dots.
When an electric current passes across a potential barrier, the partition process of electrons at the barrier gives rise to the shot noise, reflecting the discrete nature of the electric charge. Here we report the observation of excess shot noise connected with a spin current which is induced by a nonequilibrium spin accumulation in an all-semiconductor lateral spin-valve device. We find that this excess shot noise is proportional to the spin current. Additionally, we determine quantitatively the spin-injection-induced electron temperature by measuring the current noise. Our experiments show t…
The average current and the shot noise at correlated sequential tunneling via two localized sites are studied. At zero temperature the Fano factor averaged over the positions and energies of sites is shown to be 0.707. The noise dependence on temperature and frequency is analyzed numerically.
We study inelastic effects on the electronic current noise in molecular junctions, due to the coupling between transport electrons and vibrational degrees of freedom. Using a full counting statistics approach based on the generalized Keldysh Green's function technique, we calculate in an unified manner both the mean current and the zero-frequency current noise. For multilevel junctions with weak electron-phonon coupling, we give analytical formulas for the lowest order inelastic corrections to the noise in terms of universal temperature- and voltage-dependent functions and junction-dependent p…
We investigate the shot noise of nonequilibrium carriers injected into a ballistic conductor and interacting via long-range Coulomb forces. Coulomb interactions are shown to act as an energy analyzer of the profile of injected electrons by means of the fluctuations of the potential barrier at the emitter contact. We show that the details in the energy profile can be extracted from shot-noise measurements in the Coulomb interaction regime, but cannot be obtained from time-averaged quantities or shot-noise measurements in the absence of interactions.
It appears feasible with nanostructures to perform calorimetry at the level of individual thermal phonons. Here I outline an approach employing monocrystalline mesoscopic insulators, which can now be patterned from semiconductor heterostructures into complex geometries with full, three- dimensional relief. Successive application of these techniques also enables definition of integrated nanoscale thermal transducers; coupling these to a dc SQUID readout yields the requisite energy sensitivity and temporal resolution with minimal back action. The prospect of phonon counting opens intriguing expe…
High quality Au/hBN/Au tunnel devices are fabricated using transferred atomically thin hexagonal boron nitride as the tunneling barrier. All tunnel junctions show tunneling resistance on the order of several k$Ω$/$μ$m$^{2}$. Ohmic I-V curves at small bias with no signs of resonances indicate the sparsity of defects. Tunneling current shot noise is measured in these devices, and the excess shot noise shows consistency with theoretical expectations. These results show that atomically thin hBN is an excellent tunnel barrier, especially for the study of shot noise properties, and this can enable t…
We describe a field-theoretic approach to calculate quantum shot noise in nanoscale conductors from first principles. Our starting point is the second-quantization field operator to calculate shot noise in terms of single quasi-particle wavefunctions obtained self-consistently within density functional theory. The approach is valid in both linear and nonlinear response and is particularly suitable in studying shot noise in atomic-scale conductors. As an example we study shot noise in Si atomic wires between metal electrodes. We find that shot noise is strongly nonlinear as a function of bias a…
Motivated by a recent experiment on nonlinear tunneling in a suspended Carbon nanotube connected to two normal electrodes [S. Sapmaz, {\it et al}., Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 96}, 26801 (2006)], we investigate nonequilibrium vibration-mediated sequential tunneling through a molecular quantum dot with two electronic orbitals asymmetrically coupled to two electrodes and strongly interacting with an internal vibrational mode, which is itself weakly coupled to a dissipative phonon bath. For this purpose, we establish rate equations using a generic quantum Langevin equation approach. Based on these equa…
We discuss the possibility to employ the shot-noise measurements for the analysis of the energy resolved ballistic currents. Coulomb interactions play an essential role in this technique, since they lead to the shot-noise-suppression level which depends on the details of the energy profile.
The effect of electron-phonon coupling on the current noise in a molecular junction is investigated within a simple model. The model comprises a 1-level bridge representing a molecular level that connects between two free electron reservoirs and is coupled to a vibrational degree of freedom representing a molecular vibrational mode. The latter in turn is coupled to a phonon bath that represents the thermal environment. We focus on the zero frequency noise spectrum and study the changes in its behavior under weak and strong electron-phonon interactions. In the weak coupling regime we find that …
A semiclassical theory of the low frequency shot noise in ferromagnet - normal metal systems is formulated. Non-collinear magnetization directions of the ferromagnetic leads, arbitrary junctions and the elastic and inelastic scattering regimes are considered. The shot noise is governed by a set of mesoscopic parameters that are expressed in terms of the microscopic details of the junctions in the circuit. Explicit results in the case of ballistic, tunnel, and diffusive junctions are evaluated. The shot noise, the current and the Fano factor are calculated for a double barrier ferromagnet - nor…
We investigated the conductance and shot noise properties of quasiparticle-transport through a superconducting barrier in graphene. Based on the Blonder, Tinkham, and Klapwijk (BTK) formulation, the theory to investigate the transport properties in the superconductive graphene is developed. In comparison, we considered the two cases that are the transport in the presence and absence of the specular Andreev reflection. It is shown that the conductance and shot noise exhibit essentially different features in the two cases. It is found that the shot noise is suppressed as a result of more tunneli…
We investigate the noise properties of a GaAs/AlGaAs resonant tunneling structure at bias voltages where the current characteristic is determined by single electron tunneling. We discuss the suppression of the shot noise in the framework of a coupled two-state system. For large bias voltages we observed super-Poissonian shot noise up to values of the Fano factor $α\approx 10$.
Using the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green function technique, we study the current and shot noise spectroscopy of a single interacting quantum dot coupled to two ferromagnetic leads with different polarizations. The polarizations of leads can be both parallel and antiparallel alignments. General formulas of current and shot noise are obtained, which can be applied in both the parallel and antiparallel alignment cases. We show that for large polarization value, the differential conductance and shot noise are completely diferent for spin up and spin down configurations in the parallel alignment cas…
We study the effect of electron-phonon interaction on current and zero-frequency shot noise in resonant tunneling through a series triple-quantum-dot coupling to a local phonon mode by means of a nonperturbative mapping technique along with the Green function formulation. By fixing the energy difference between the first two quantum dots to be equal to phonon frequency and sweeping the level of the third quantum dot, we find a largely enhanced current spectrum due to phonon effect, and in particular we predict current peaks corresponding to phonon-absorption and -emission assisted resonant tun…
The progress in nanofabrication, measurement technology, and mesoscopic transport theory has been expanding the field of shot noise. Although a wave-packet approach to DC shot noise of independent electrons at finite temperature was offered as an intuitive alternative to the sophisticated theories, actual shot noise data often behave more complicated than the derived simple expression. For example, so-called effective charge can deviate from elementary electronic charge due to correlated tunnelings. Also, there are cases where one wishes to know the full spectrum of the shot noise. It will be …
