In this note we show that similar to the classical case the ring of representations of symmetric groups in a tensor derived category is certain ring of symmetric functions. We also show that in the general setting considered here, the Adams operations compute the characteristic series associated to powers of endomorphisms.
Given a ring object $A$ in a symmetric monoidal category, we investigate what it means for the extension $\mathbb{1}\rightarrow A$ to be (quasi-)Galois. In particular, we define splitting ring extensions and examine how they occur. Specializing to tensor-triangulated categories, we study how extension-of-scalars along a quasi-Galois ring object affects the Balmer spectrum. We define what it means for a separable ring to have constant degree, which is a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a quasi-Galois closure. Finally, we illustrate the above for separable rings occurring …
We define the Hochschild complex and cohomology of a ring object in a monoidal category enriched over abelian groups. We interpret the cohomology groups and prove that the cohomology ring is graded-commutative.
We define and characterise small support for complexes over non-Noetherian rings and in this context prove a vanishing theorem for modules. Our definition of support makes sense for any rigidly compactly generated tensor triangulated category. Working in this generality, we establish basic properties of support and investigate when it detects vanishing. We use pointless topology to relate support, the topology of the Balmer spectrum, and the structure of the idempotent Bousfield lattice.
This is the fourth (and last) prepublication version of a book on derived categories, that will be published by Cambridge University Press. The purpose of the book is to provide solid foundations for the theory of derived categories, and to present several applications of this theory in commutative and noncommutative algebra. The emphasis is on constructions and examples, rather than on axiomatics. Here are the topics covered in the book: - A review of standard facts on abelian categories. - Differential graded algebra (DG rings, DG modules, DG categories and DG functors). - Triangulated categ…
Consider the obvious functor from the unbounded derived category of all finitely generated modules over a left noetherian ring $R$ to the unbounded derived category of all modules. We answer the natural question whether this functor defines an equivalence onto the full subcategory of complexes with finitely generated cohomology modules in two special cases. If $R$ is a quasi-Frobenius ring of infinite global dimension, then this functor is not full. If $R$ has finite left global dimension, this functor is an equivalence. We also prove variants of the latter assertion for left coherent rings, f…
We apply the Auslander-Buchweitz approximation theory to show that the Iyama and Yoshino's subfactor triangulated category can be realized as a triangulated quotient. Applications of this realization go in three directions. Firstly, we recover both a result of Iyama and Yang and a result of the third author. Secondly, we extend the classical Buchweitz's triangle equivalence from Iwanaga-Gorenstein rings to Noetherian rings. Finally, we obtain the converse of Buchweitz's triangle equivalence and a result of Beligiannis, and give characterizations for Iwanaga-Gorenstein rings and Gorenstein alge…
We prove that one can realize certain triangulated subcategories of the singularity category of a complete intersection as homotopy categories of matrix factorizations. Moreover, we prove that for any commutative ring and non-zerodivisor, the homotopy category of matrix factorizations embeds into the homotopy category of totally acyclic complexes of finitely generated projective modules over the factor ring.

We show that for a coconnective ring spectrum satisfying regularity and flatness assumptions, its algebraic K-theory agrees with that of its $π_0$. We prove this as a consequence of a more general devissage result for stable infinity categories. Applications of our result include giving general conditions under which K-theory preserves pushouts, generalizations of $\mathbb{A}^n$-invariance of K-theory, and an understanding of the K-theory of categories of unipotent local systems.
In this paper we establish a precise comparison between vanishing cycles and the singularity category of Landau-Ginzburg models over a complete discrete valuation ring. By using noncommutative motives, we first construct a motivic $\ell$-adic realization functor for dg-categories. Our main result, then asserts that, given a Landau-Ginzburg model over a complete discrete valuation ring with potential induced by a uniformizer, the $\ell$-adic realization of its singularity category is given by the inertia-invariant part of vanishing cohomology. We also prove a functorial and $\infty$-categorical…
We prove that the Balmer spectrum of a tensor triangulated category is homeomorphic to the Zariski spectrum of its graded central ring, provided the triangulated category is generated by its tensor unit and the graded central ring is noetherian and regular in a weak sense. There follows a classification of all thick subcategories, and the result extends to the compactly generated setting to yield a classification of all localizing subcategories as well as the analog of the telescope conjecture. This generalizes results of Shamir for commutative ring spectra.
Renault, Wassermann, Handelman and Rossmann (early 1980s) and Evans and Gould (1994) explicitly described the $K$-theory of certain unital AF-algebras $A$ as (quotients of) polynomial rings. In this paper, we show that in each case the multiplication in the polynomial ring (quotient) is induced by a $*$-homomorphism $A\otimes A\to A$ arising from a unitary braiding on a C*-tensor category and essentially defined by Erlijman and Wenzl (2007). We also present some new explicit calculations based on the work of Gepner, Fuchs and others. Specifically, we perform computations for the rank two compa…
