From a resolution graph with certain conditions, Neumann and Wahl constructed an equisingular family of surface singularities called splice quotients. For this class some fundamental analytic invariants have been computed from their resolution graph. In this paper we give a method to compute the multiplicity of an abelian covering of a splice quotient from its resolution graph and the Galois group.

Splice diagrams and splice-quotient surface singularities

The current work will appear in a Celebratio Mathematica volume in honor of Walter Neumann. We summarize results and methods from our long-time collaboration with Neumann, especially the motivation for the introduction of splice diagrams to define singularities of splice type and splice-quotient singularities. The Casson Invariant Conjecture and Milnor Fiber Conjectures are discussed, as well as some open questions about hypersurface and complete intersection singularities with integral homology sphere link.

The cohomology of line bundles of splice-quotient singularities

Brill-Noether problem on splice quotient singularities and duality of topological Poincaré series

In this manuscript we investigate the analouge of the Brill-Noether problem for smooth curves in the case of normal surface singularities. Geometry of splice-quotient singularities

We obtain a new important basic result on splice-quotient singularities in an elegant combinatorial-geometric way: every level of the divisorial filtration of the ring of functions is generated by monomials of the defining coordinate functions. The elegant way is the language of of line bundles based on Okuma's description of the function ring of the universal abelian cover. As an easy application, we obtain a new proof of the End Curve Theorem of Neumann and Wahl.

A three-dimensional orbifold $(Σ, γ_i, n_i)$, where $Σ$ is a rational homology sphere, has a universal abelian orbifold covering, whose covering group is the first orbifold homology. The End Curve Theorem for normal complex surface singularities

We prove the "End Curve Theorem," which states that a normal surface singularity $(X,o)$ with rational homology sphere link $Σ$ is a splice-quotient singularity if and only if it has an end curve function for each leaf of a good resolution tree. On the moduli spaces of semi-stable plane sheaves of dimension one and multiplicity five

We find locally free resolutions of length one for all semi-stable sheaves supported on curves of multiplicity five in the complex projective plane. In some cases we also find geometric descriptions of these sheaves by means of extensions. We give natural stratifications for their moduli spaces and we describe the strata as certain quotients modulo linear algebraic groups. In most cases we give concrete descriptions of these quotients as fibre bundles.

The Complex Ball-quotient Structure of the Moduli Space of Certain Sextic Curves

We study moduli spaces of certain sextic curves with a singularity of multiplicity 3 from both perspectives of Deligne-Mostow theory and periods of K3 surfaces. In both ways we can describe the moduli spaces via arithmetic quotients of complex hyperbolic balls. We show in Theorem 7.4 that the two ball-quotient constructions can be unified in a geometric way.

Moduli of affine schemes with reductive group action

For a connected reductive group G and a finite-dimensional G-module V, we study the invariant Hilbert scheme that parameterizes closed G-stable subschemes of V affording a fixed, multiplicity-finite representation of G in their coordinate ring.
