In this paper we develop two types of tools to deal with differentiability properties of vectors in continuous representations $π\: G \to \GL(V)$ of an infinite dimensional Lie group $G$ on a locally convex space $V$. The first class of results concerns the space $V^\infty$ of smooth vectors. If $G$ is a Banach--Lie group, we define a topology on the space $V^\infty$ of smooth vectors for which the action of $G$ on this space is smooth. If $V$ is a Banach space, then $V^\infty$ is a Fréchet space. This applies in particular to $C^*$-dynamical systems $(\cA,G, α)$, where $G$ is a Banach--Lie group. For unitary representations we show that a vector $v$ is smooth if the corresponding positive definite function $\la π(g)v,v\ra$ is smooth.
The second class of results concerns criteria for $C^k$-vectors in terms of operators of the derived representation for a Banach--Lie group $G$ acting on a Banach space $V$. In particular, we provide for each $k \in \N$ examples of continuous unitary representations for which the space of $C^{k+1}$-vectors is trivial and the space of $C^k$-vectors is dense.
For a locally convex Lie group with the Trotter property, we prove that the space of k-times differentiable vectors of a unitary representation is equal to the intersection of domains of k-fold products of the Lie algebra action. The result also holds for continuous representations of locally exponential groups on metrizable locally convex spaces. As an application, we extend a key stability theorem in the representation theory of Lie supergroups beyond the Banach case.
We address a linearity problem for differentiable vectors in representations of infinite-dimensional Lie groups on locally convex spaces, which is similar to the linearity problem for the directional derivatives of functions.
Any sufficiently often differentiable curve in the orbit space of a compact Lie group representation can be lifted to a once differentiable curve into the representation space.
Any sufficiently often differentiable curve in the orbit space $V/G$ of a real finite-dimensional orthogonal representation $G \to O(V)$ of a finite group $G$ admits a differentiable lift into the representation space $V$ with locally bounded derivative. As a consequence any sufficiently often differentiable curve in the orbit space $V/G$ can be lifted twice differentiably. These results can be generalized to arbitrary polar representations. Finite reflection groups and finite rotation groups in dimensions two and three are discussed in detail.
For locally convex, nilpotent Lie algebras we construct faithful representations by nilpotent operators on a suitable locally convex space. In the special case of nilpotent Banach-Lie algebras we get norm continuous representations by bounded operators on Banach spaces.
We establish a few simple results on contragredient representations of Lie groups, with a view toward applications to the abstract characterization of some spaces of pseudo-differential operators. In particular, this method provides an abstract approach to J.Nourrigat's recent description of the norm closure of the pseudo-differential operators of order zero.
Motivated by the interesting and yet scattered developments in representation theory of Banach-Lie groups, we discuss several functional analytic issues which should underlie the notion of infinite-dimensional reductive Lie group: norm ideals, triangular integrals, operator factorizations, and amenability.
We set up an abstract framework that allows the investigation of Iwasawa decompositions for involutive infinite-dimensional Lie groups modeled on Banach spaces. As an application, we construct Iwasawa decompositions for classical real or complex Banach-Lie groups associated with the Schatten ideals ${\mathfrak S}_p({\mathcal H})$ on a complex separable Hilbert space ${\mathcal H}$ if $1<p<\infty$.
For the Lie algebra $\g$ of a connected infinite-dimensional Lie group~$G$, there is a natural duality between so-called semi-equicontinuous weak-*-closed convex Ad^*(G)-invariant subsets of the dual space $\g'$ and Ad(G)-invariant lower semicontinuous positively homogeneous convex functions on open convex cones in $\g$. In this survey, we discuss various aspects of this duality and some of its applications to a more systematic understanding of open invariant cones and convexity properties of coadjoint orbits. In particular, we show that root decompositions with respect to elliptic Cartan suba…
This thesis deals with deformations of VB-algebroids and VB-groupoids. They can be considered as vector bundles in the categories of Lie algebroids and groupoids and encompass several classical objects, including Lie algebra and Lie group representations, 2-vector spaces and the tangent and the cotangent algebroid (groupoid) to a Lie algebroid (groupoid). Moreover, they are geometric models for some kind of representations of Lie algebroids (groupoids), namely 2-term representations up to homotopy. Finally, it is well known that Lie groupoids are "concrete" incarnations of differentiable stack…
In this paper, we study a class of infinite simple Lie conformal algebras associated to a class of generalized Block type Lie algebras. The central extensions, conformal derivations and free intermediate series modules of this class of Lie conformal algebras are determined. Moreover, we also show that these Lie conformal algebras do not have any non-trivial finite conformal modules. Consequently, these Lie conformal algebras cannot be embedded into $gc_N$ for any positive integer $N$.
We study the truncation functors and show the existence of projective cover of each irreducible module in parabolic BGG category $\mathcal O$ over infinite rank Lie algebra of types $\mathfrak{a,b,c,d}$. Moreover, $\mathcal O$ is a Koszul category. As a consequence, the corresponding parabolic BGG category $\overline{\mathcal O}$ over infinite rank Lie superalgebra of types $\mathfrak{a,b,c,d}$ through the super duality is also a Koszul category.
In this paper we construct two kinds of infinite-dimensional 3-Lie algebras from a given commutative associative algebra, and show that they are all canonical Nambu 3-Lie algebras. We relate their inner derivation algebras to Witt algebras, and then study the regular representations of these 3-Lie algebras and the natural representations of the inner derivation algebras. In particular, for the second kind of 3-Lie algebras, we find that their regular representations are Harish-Chandra modules, and the inner derivation algebras give rise to intermediate series modules of the Witt algebras and c…
Using Howe duality we compute explicitly Kostant-type homology groups for a wide class of representations of the infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebra $\hat{\frak{gl}}_{\infty|\infty}$ and its classical subalgebras at positive integral levels. We also obtain Kostant-type homology formulas for the Lie algebra $ widehat{\frak{gl}}_\infty$ at negative integral levels. We further construct resolutions in terms of generalized Verma modules for these representations.
We construct and study various dual pairs between finite dimensional classical Lie groups and infinite dimensional Lie algebras in some Fock representations. The infinite dimensional Lie algebras here can be either a completed infinite rank affine Lie algebra, the $\winf$ algebra or its certain Lie subalgebras. We give a formulation in the framework of vertex algebras. We also formulate several conjectures and open problems.
In this work it is considered the vector space composed by the infinitesimal deformations of the model $\mathbb{Z}_3$-filiform Lie algebra $L^{n,m,p}$. By using these deformations all the $\mathbb{Z}_3$-filiform Lie algebras can be obtained, hence the importance of these deformations. The results obtained in this work together to those obtained in [Integrable deformations of nilpotent color Lie superalgebras, J. Geom. Phys. 61(2011)1797-1808] and [Corrigendum to Integrable deformations of nilpotent color Lie superalgebras, J. Geom. Phys. 62(2012)1571], leads to compute the total dimension of t…
We report on recent work concerning a new type of generalised Kac-Moody algebras based on the spaces of differentiable mappings from compact manifolds or homogeneous spaces onto compact Lie groups.
We introduce and study the so-called serpentine representations of the infinite symmetric group $\sinf$, which turn out to be closely related to the basic representation of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_2}$ and representations of the Virasoro algebra. This is a new version of the manuscript of the same authors "On a relation between the basic representation of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat\sl$ and a Schur--Weyl representation of the infinite symmetric group" (arXiv:1403.1558)
We classify the quasi-finite irreducible highest weight modules over the infinite rank Lie superalgebras $\hgltwo$, $\hC$ and $\hD$, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for quasi-finite irreducible highest weight modules to be unitarizable with respect to natural $\ast$-structures of the Lie superalgebras. The unitarizable irreducible modules are constructed in terms of Fock spaces of free quantum fields, and explicit formulae for their formal characters are also obtained by investigating Howe dualities between the infinite rank Lie superalgebras and classical Lie groups.
The present paper links the representation theory of Lie groupoids and infinite-dimensional Lie groups. We show that smooth representations of Lie groupoids give rise to smooth representations of associated Lie groups. The groups envisaged here are the bisection group and a group of groupoid self maps. Then representations of the Lie groupoids give rise to representations of the infinite-dimensional Lie groups on spaces of (compactly supported) bundle sections. Endowing the spaces of bundle sections with a fine Whitney type topology, the fine very strong topology, we even obtain continuous and…
We begin the study of the representation theory of the infinite Temperley-Lieb algebra. We fully classify its finite dimensional representations, then introduce infinite link state representations and classify when they are irreducible or indecomposable. We also define a construction of projective indecomposable representations for $TL_{n}$ that generalizes to give extensions of $TL_{\infty}$ representations. Finally we define a generalization of the spin chain representation and conjecture a generalization of Schur-Weyl duality.
In this paper we study the complete reducibility of representations of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras from the perspective of the representation theory of vertex algebras.
In an earlier work extensions of supersymmetry and super Lie algebras were constructed consistently starting from any representation $\D$ of any Lie algebra $\g$. Here it is shown how infinite dimensional Lie algebras appear naturally within the framework of fractional supersymmetry. Using a differential realization of $\g$ this infinite dimensional Lie algebra, containing the Lie algebra $\g$ as a sub-algebra, is explicitly constructed.
For an infinite dimensional Lie group $G$ modelled on a locally convex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we prove that every smooth projective unitary representation of $G$ corresponds to a smooth linear unitary representation of a Lie group extension $G^{\sharp}$ of $G$. (The main point is the smooth structure on $G^{\sharp}$.) For infinite dimensional Lie groups $G$ which are 1-connected, regular, and modelled on a barrelled Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we characterize the unitary $\mathfrak{g}$-representations which integrate to $G$. Combining these results, we give a precise formulation of the co…
A VB-algebroid is a vector bundle object in the category of Lie algebroids. We attach to every VB-algebroid a differential graded Lie algebra and we show that it controls deformations of the VB-algebroid structure. Several examples and applications are discussed. This is the first in a series of papers devoted to deformations of vector bundles and related structures over differentiable stacks.
In this note we describe the recent progress in the classification of bounded and semibounded representations of infinite dimensional Lie groups. We start with a discussion of the semiboundedness condition and how the new concept of a smoothing operator can be used to construct $C^*$-algebras (so called host algebras) whose representations are in one-to-one correspondence with certain semibounded representations of an infinite dimensional Lie group $G$. This makes the full power of $C^*$-theory available in this context. Then we discuss the classification of bounded representations of several …
