This is the final version, to appear in Proc. LMS. I have also posted on arXiv an "extended version" of this paper, including many additional details of possible interest
We discuss the deformation theory of special Lagrangian (SL) conifolds in complex space C^m. Conifolds are a key ingredient in the compactification problem for moduli spaces of compact SLs in Calabi-Yau manifolds. This category allows for the simultaneous presence of conical singularities and of non-compact, asymptotically conical, ends. Our main theorem is the natural next step in the chain of results initiated by McLean and continued by the author and by Joyce. We emphasize a unifying framework for studying the various cases and discuss analogies and differences between them. This paper also lays down the geometric foundations for our paper "Special Lagrangian conifolds, II" concerning gluing constructions for SL conifolds in C^m.
We consider the deformation theory of asymptotically conical (AC) and of conically singular (CS) $G_2$-manifolds. In the AC case, we show that if the rate of convergence $ν$ to the cone at infinity is generic in a precise sense and lies in the interval $(-4, 0)$, then the moduli space is smooth and we compute its dimension in terms of topological and analytic data. For generic rates $ν< -4$ in the AC case, and for generic positive rates of convergence to the cones at the singular points in the CS case, the deformation theory is in general obstructed. We describe the obstruction spaces explicit…
We derive some restrictions on the topology of a monotone Lagrangian submanifold $L\subset\mathbf{C}^n$ by making observations about the topology of the moduli space of Maslov 2 holomorphic discs with boundary on $L$ and then using Damian's theorem which gives conditions under which the evaluation map from this moduli space to $L$ has nonzero degree. In particular we prove that an orientable 3-manifold admits a monotone Lagrangian embedding in $\mathbf{C}^3$ only if it is a product, which is a variation on a theorem of Fukaya. Finally we prove an h-principle for monotone Lagrangian immersions.
In the first part of the present series of papers, we studied the moduli spaces of holomorphic discs and strips into an open symplectic manifold, isomorphic to the complement of a smooth divisor in a closed symplectic manifold. In particular, we introduced a compactification of this moduli space, which is called the RGW compactification. The goal of this paper is to show that the RGW compactifications admit Kuranishi structures. This result provides the crucial ingredient for the main construction of this series of papers: Floer homology for monotone Lagrangians in a smooth divisor complement.
We consider moduli spaces of cyclic configurations of $N$ lines in a $2n$-dimensional symplectic vector space, such that every set of $n$ consecutive lines generates a Lagrangian subspace. We study geometric and combinatorial problems related to these moduli spaces, and prove that they are isomorphic to quotients of spaces of symmetric linear difference operators with monodromy $-1$. The symplectic cross-ratio is an invariant of two pairs of $1$-dimensional subspaces of a symplectic vector space. For $N = 2n+2$, the moduli space of Lagrangian configurations is parametrized by $n+1$ symplectic …
