We reformulate the Omega-deformation of four-dimensional gauge theory in a way that is valid away from fixed points of the associated group action. We use this reformulation together with the theory of coisotropic A-branes to explain recent results linking the Omega-deformation to integrable Hamiltonian systems in one direction and Liouville theory of two-dimensional conformal field theory in another direction.
In previous work, we introduced a class of integrable spin Calogero-Moser systems associated with the classical dynamical r-matrices with spectral parameter, as classified by Etingof and Varchenko for simple Lie algebras. Here the main purpose is to establish the Liouville integrability of these systems by a uniform method.
Liouville integrability of classical Calogero-Moser models is proved for models based on any root systems, including the non-crystallographic ones. It applies to all types of elliptic potentials, i.e. untwisted and twisted together with their degenerations (hyperbolic, trigonometric and rational), except for the rational potential models confined by a harmonic force.
We generalize the Lax pair and Bäcklund transformations for Liouville and Toda field theories as well as their supersymmetric generalizations, to the case of arbitrary Riemann surfaces. We make use of the fact that Toda field theory arises naturally and geometrically in a restriction of so called $W$--geometry to ordinary Riemannian geometry. This derivation sheds light on the geometrical structure underlying complete integrability of these systems. (Invited talk presented at the 877th meeting of the American Mathematical Society, USC, November 1992 and at the YITP workshop ``Directions on Qua…
This is a write-up of the lectures given in Young Researchers Integrability School 2017. The main goal is to explain the connection between the ODE/IM correspondence and the classical integrability of strings in AdS. As a warm up, we first discuss the classical three-point function of the Liouville theory. The starting point is the well-known fact that the classical solutions to the Liouville equation can be constructed by solving a Schrodinger-like differential equation. We then convert it into a set of functional equations using a method similar to the ODE/IM correspondence. The classical th…
We reconsider string and domain wall central charges in N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions in presence of the Omega background in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) limit. Existence of these charges entails presence of the corresponding topological defects in the theory - vortices and domain walls. In spirit of the 4d/2d duality we discuss the worldsheet low energy effective theory living on the BPS vortex in N=2 Supersymmetric Quantum Chromodynamics (SQCD). We discuss some aspects of the brane realization of the dualities between various quantum integrable models. A chain of such…
Supersymmetric extensions of Hamilton-Jacobi separable Liouville mechanical systems with two degrees of freedom are defined. It is shown that supersymmetry can be implemented in this type of systems in two independent ways. The structure of the constants of motion is unveiled and the entanglement between integrability and supersymmetry is explored.
We continue to investigate the relationship between the infrared physics of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions and various integrable models such as Gaudin, Calogero-Moser and quantum spin chains. We prove interesting dualities among some of these integrable systems by performing different, albeit equivalent, quantizations of the Seiberg-Witten curve of the four dimensional theory. We also discuss conformal field theories related to N=2 4d gauge theories by the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa (AGT) duality and the role of conformal blocks of those CFTs in the integrable systems. As a…

We show that the $AdS_5 \times L^{a,b,c}$ solution in type IIB theory is non-integrable. To do so, we consider a string embedding and study its fluctuations which do not admit Liouville integrable solutions. We, also, perform a numerical analysis to study the time evolution of the string and compute the largest Lyapunov exponent. This analysis indicates that the string motion is chaotic. Finally, we consider the point-like limit of the string that corresponds to BPS mesons of the quiver theory.
In this note, we study different limits of an Omega-deformed (2,0) six-dimensional gauge theory realized in a M-theory fluxtrap background. Via a chain of dualities, we connect the Omega-deformed SYM to a new four-dimensional gauge theory which we refer to as the reciprocal gauge theory. This theory has several properties in common with Liouville field theory, such as its gauge coupling b^2 =ε_2 / ε_1, and its behavior under S-duality. Finally, we realize the BPS states on the SYM side of the AGT correspondence and follow them along the chain of dualities. In the fluxtrap frame, we are dealing…
We review our work on the relation between integrability and infinite-dimensional algebras. We first consider the question of what sets of commuting charges can be constructed from the current of a \mbox{\sf U}(1) Kac-Moody algebra. It emerges that there exists a set $S_n$ of such charges for each positive integer $n>1$; the corresponding value of the central charge in the Feigin-Fuchs realization of the stress tensor is $c=13-6n-6/n$. The charges in each series can be written in terms of the generators of an exceptional \W-algebra. We show that the \W-algebras that arise in this way are symme…
Application of our algebraic approach to Liouville integrable defects is proposed for the sine-Gordon model. Integrability of the model is ensured by the underlying classical r-matrix algebra. The first local integrals of motion are identified together with the corresponding Lax pairs. Continuity conditions imposed on the time components of the entailed Lax pairs give rise to the sewing conditions on the defect point consistent with Liouville integrability.
The mixmaster model has always been a field of controversy in the literature regarding its (non)integrability. In this work, we make use of a generalized definition of a class of nonlocal conserved charges in phase space to demonstrate that the anisotropic Bianchi type IX model in vacuum is -at least locally - Liouville integrable, thus supporting the findings of previous works pointing to this result. These additional integrals of motion that we use can be defined only due to the parametrization invariance of the system and can be seen to possess an explicit dependence on time. By promoting t…
The correspondence between the semiclassical limit of the DOZZ quantum Liouville theory and the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of the N = 2 (Omega-deformed) U(2) super-Yang-Mills theories is used to calculate the unknown accessory parameter of the Fuchsian uniformization of the 4-punctured sphere. The computation is based on the saddle point method. This allows to find an analytic expression for the N_f = 4, U(2) instanton twisted superpotential and, in turn, to sum up the 4-point classical block. It is well known that the critical value of the Liouville action functional is the generating functio…
The possible role of decoherence due to space-time foam is discussed within the context of two models, one based on string/brane theory. and the other based on properties of black hole horizons in general relativity. It is argued that the density matrix satisfies a dissipative master equation, primarily from the study of renormalization group flows in non-critical string theory. This interpretation of the zero mode of the Liouville field as time leads necessarily to the CPT operator being ill defined. One striking consequence is that the quantum mechanical correlations of pair states of neutral…
We couple non-linear $σ$-models to Liouville gravity, showing that integrability properties of symmetric space models still hold for the matter sector. Using similar arguments for the fermionic counterpart, namely Gross--Neveu-type models, we verify that such conclusions must also hold for them, as recently suggested.
We investigate dynamics of probe particles moving in the near-horizon limit of (2N+1)-dimensional extremal Myers-Perry black hole with arbitrary rotation parameters. We observe that in the most general case with nonequal nonvanishing rotational parameters the system admits separation of variables in N-dimensional ellipsoidal coordinates. This allows us to find solution of the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi equation and write down the explicit expressions of Liouville constants of motion.
Conformal blocks of Liouville theory have a Coulomb-gas representation as Dotsenko-Fateev (DF) integrals over the positions of screening charges. For q-deformed Liouville, the conformal blocks on a sphere with an arbitrary number of punctures are manifestly the same, when written in DF representation, as the partition functions of a class of 3d U(N) gauge theories with N=2 supersymmetry, in the Omega-background. Coupling the 3d gauge theory to a flavor in fundamental representation corresponds to inserting a Liouville vertex operator; the two real mass parameters determine the momentum and pos…
We reformulate the conditions of Liouville integrability in the language of Gozzi et al.'s quantum BRST anti-BRST description of classical mechanics. The Das-Okubo geometrical Lax equation is particularly suited to this approach. We find that the Lax pair and inverse scattering wavefunction appear naturally in certain sectors of the quantum theory.
To analyse pure ${\cal N}=2$ $SU(2)$ gauge theory in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) limit (or deformed Seiberg-Witten (SW)), we use the Ordinary Differential Equation/Integrable Model (ODE/IM) correspondence, and in particular its (broken) discrete symmetry in its extended version with {\it two} singular irregular points. Actually, this symmetry appears to be 'manifestation' of the spontaneously broken $\mathbb{Z}_2$ R-symmetry of the original gauge problem and the two deformed SW cycles are simply connected to the Baxter's $T$ and $Q$ functions, respectively, of the Liouville conformal field t…
We present a multiparameter generalization of the Stäckel transform (the latter is also known as the coupling-constant metamorphosis) and show that under certain conditions this generalized Stäckel transform preserves the Liouville integrability, noncommutative integrability and superintegrability. The corresponding transformation for the equations of motion proves to be nothing but a reciprocal transformation of a special form, and we investigate the properties of this reciprocal transformation. Finally, we show that the Hamiltonians of the systems possessing separation curves of apparently v…
The study of higher-dimensional black holes is a subject which has recently attracted a vast interest. Perhaps one of the most surprising discoveries is a realization that the properties of higher-dimensional black holes with the spherical horizon topology and described by the Kerr-NUT-(A)dS metrics are very similar to the properties of the well known four-dimensional Kerr metric. This remarkable result stems from the existence of a single object called the principal tensor. In our review we discuss explicit and hidden symmetries of higher-dimensional black holes. We start with the overview of…
The integrable 1+1-dimensional SU(2) principal chiral model (PCM) serves as a toy-model for 3+1-dimensional Yang-Mills theory as it is asymptotically free and displays a mass gap. Interestingly, the PCM is 'pseudodual' to a scalar field theory introduced by Zakharov and Mikhailov and Nappi that is strongly coupled in the ultraviolet and could serve as a toy-model for non-perturbative properties of theories with a Landau pole. Unlike the 'Euclidean' current algebra of the PCM, its pseudodual is based on a nilpotent current algebra. Recently, Rajeev and Ranken obtained a mechanical reduction by …
