Multiplicity of continuous maps between manifolds

We consider a continuous map $f :M\to N$ between two manifolds and try to estimate its multiplicity from below, i.e. find a $q$-tuple of pairwise distinct points $x_1,..., x_q\in M$ such that $f(x_1) = f(x_2) = ... = f(x_q)$. We show that there are certain characteristic classes of vector bundle $f^*TN-TM$ that guarantee a bound on the multiplicity of $f$. In particular, we prove some non-trivial bound on the multiplicity for a continuous map of a real projective space of certain dimension into a Euclidean space.

Let $M$ and $N$ be smooth (real or complex) manifolds, and let $M$ be equipped with some Riemannian metric. Geometric coincidence results from multiplicity of continuous maps

In this paper we study geometric coincidence problems in the spirit of the following problems by B. Grünbaum: How many affine diameters of a convex body in $\mathbb R^n$ must have a common point? Round fold maps into the plane on some $7$-dimensional closed and simply-connected manifolds

Round fold maps are smooth maps on closed manifolds which are locally represented as the product maps of Morse functions and identity maps on open disks and whose singularity is realized as concentrically embedded spheres. The Space of Linear Maps into a Grassmann Manifold

We show that the space of all holomorphic maps of degree one from the Riemann sphere into a Grassmann manifold is a sphere bundle over a flag manifold. Using the notions of "kernel" and "span" of a map, we completely identify the space of unparameterized maps as well. The illustrative case of maps into the quadric Grassmann manifold is discussed in details and the homology of the corresponding spaces computed.

We compute the oriented cobordism group of fold maps of 4-manifolds into the space with all the possible restrictions (and also with no restriction) to the singular fibers. We also give geometric invariants which describe completely the cobordism group of fold maps.
