The current deepest radio surveys detect hundreds of sources per square degree below 0.1mJy. There is a growing consensus that a large fraction of these sources are dominated by star formation although the exact proportion has been debated in the literature. However, the low luminosity of these galaxies at most other wavelengths makes determining the nature of individual sources difficult. If future, deeper surveys performed with the next generation of radio instrumentation are to reap high scientific reward we need to develop reliable methods of distinguishing between radio emission powered by active galactic nuclei (AGN) and that powered by star formation. In particular, we believe that such discriminations should be based on purely radio, or relative to radio, diagnostics. These diagnostics include radio morphology, radio spectral index, polarisation, variability, radio luminosity and flux density ratios with non-radio wavelengths e.g. with different parts of the infrared (IR) regime. We discuss the advantages and limitations of these various diagnostics methods with current and future surveys. However, weeding AGN out of deep radio surveys can already provide several insights into the star formation at high redshift. As well as reproducing the well known rise with redshift in the comoving star formation rate density, we also see evidence for the continued dominance of LIRGs and ULIRGs to the total star forming budget across redshifts 1-3. Additionally, while we see that the IR-radio relation for star forming galaxies does hold to high redshifts (z>1) there is a mild deviation depending on the IR waveband used and the range of IR SEDs found. We will discuss the possible reasons behind this change in properties.
Weak lensing surveys are reaching sensitivities at which uncertainties in the galaxy redshift distributions n(z) from photo-z errors degrade cosmological constraints. We use ray-tracing simulations and a simple treatment of photo-z errors to assess cosmological parameter biases from uncertainties in n(z) in an LSST-like survey. We use the power spectrum and the abundance of lensing peaks to infer cosmological parameters, and find that the former is somewhat more resilient to photo-z errors. We place conservative lower limits on the survey size at which different types of photo-z errors degrade…
In this work we present the first results from a new ray-tracing tool to calculate cosmological distances in the context of fully nonlinear general relativity. We use this tool to study the ability of the general cosmographic representation of luminosity distance, as truncated at third order in redshift, to accurately capture anisotropies in the "true" luminosity distance. We use numerical relativity simulations of cosmological large-scale structure formation which are free from common simplifying assumptions in cosmology. We find the general, third-order cosmography is accurate to within 1% f…
We present an algorithm to self-consistently generate mock weak gravitational lensing convergence fields and galaxy distributions in redshift space. We generate three-dimensional cosmic density fields that follow a log-normal distribution, and ray-trace them to produce convergence maps. As we generate the galaxy distribution from the same density fields in a manner consistent with ray-tracing, the galaxy-convergence cross-power spectrum measured from the mock agrees with the theoretical expectation with high precision. We use this simulation to forecast the quality of galaxy-shear cross-correl…
Observations of gamma-ray bursts up to $z\sim 9$ are best suited to study the possible evolution of the Universe equation of state at intermediate redshifts. We apply the Combo-relation to a sample of 174 gamma ray bursts to investigate possible evidence of evolving dark energy parameter $w(z)$. We first build a gamma ray burst Hubble's diagram and then we estimate the set ($Ω_m$, $Ω_Λ$) in the framework of flat and non-flat $Λ$CDM paradigm. We then get bounds over the $w$CDM model, where $w$ is thought to evolve with redshift, adopting two priors over the Hubble constant in tension at $4.4$-$…

The measurements of the Hubble constant reveal a tension between high-redshift (CMB) and low-redshift (distance ladder) constraints. So far neither observational systematics nor new physics has been successfully implemented to explain this tension away. This paper present a new solution to the Hubble constant problem. The solution is based on the Simsilun simulation (relativistic simulation of the large scale structure of the Universe) with the ray-tracing algorithm implemented. The initial conditions for the Simsilun simulation were set up as perturbations around the $Λ$CDM model. However, un…
The origin and properties of black hole seeds that grow to produce the detected population of supermassive black holes are unconstrained at present. Despite the existence of several potentially feasible channels for the production of initial seeds in the high redshift universe, since even actively growing seeds are not directly observable at these epochs, discriminating between models remains challenging. Several new observables that encapsulate information about seeding have been proposed in recent years, and these offer exciting prospects for truly unraveling the nature of black hole seeds i…

We propose a method of searching for radio sources exhibiting the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect in the multi-frequency emission maps from the Planck mission data using a convolutional neural network. A catalog for recognizing radio sources is compiled using the GLESP pixelation scheme at the frequencies of 100, 143, 217, 353, and 545 GHz. The quality of the proposed approach is evaluated and the quality of the dependence of model data on the S/N ratio is estimated. We show that the presented neural network approach allows the detection of sources with the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The proposed meth…

The large-scale overdensities of galaxies at z~2-7 known as protoclusters are believed to be the sites of cluster formation, and deep, wide survey projects such as the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) and the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) will deliver significant numbers of these interesting structures. Spectroscopic confirmation and interpretation of these targets, however, is still challenging, and will require wide-field multi-plexed spectroscopy on >20 m-class telescopes in the optical and near-infrared. In the coming decade, detailed studies of protoclusters will ena…

High-redshift star formation rate up to z~8.3 derived from gamma-ray bursts and influence of background cosmology
在不同的背景宇宙学模型(包括$Λ$ CDM、quintessence、quintessence with a time-varying equation of state和brane-world model)下,研究了追踪恒星形成历史和宇宙金属丰度演化的Swift伽玛暴的高红移SFR(z~8.3)。
We present 108 full-sky gravitational lensing simulation data sets generated by performing multiple-lens plane ray-tracing through high-resolution cosmological $N$-body simulations. The data sets include full-sky convergence and shear maps from redshifts $z=0.05$ to $5.3$ at intervals of $150 \, h^{-1}{\rm Mpc}$ comoving radial distance (corresponding to a redshift interval of $Δz \simeq 0.05$ at the nearby universe), enabling the construction of a mock shear catalog for an arbitrary source distribution up to $z=5.3$. The dark matter halos are identified from the same $N$-body simulations with…
The semi-analytical model A-SLOTH (Ancient Stars and Local Observables by Tracing Halos) is the first public code that connects the formation of the first stars and galaxies to observables. After several successful projects with this model, we publish the source code and describe the public version in this paper. The model is based on dark matter merger trees that can either be generated based on Extended Press-Schechter theory or that can be imported from dark matter simulations. On top of these merger trees, A-SLOTH applies analytical recipes for baryonic physics to model the formation of bo…
We investigate how different galaxy properties - luminosities in u, g, r, J, K-bands, stellar mass, star formation rate and specific star formation rate trace the environment in the local universe. We also study the effect of survey flux limits on galaxy clustering measurements. We measure the two-point correlation function (2pCF) and marked correlation functions (MCFs) using the aforementioned properties as marks. We use nearly stellar-mass-complete galaxy sample in the redshift range 0.1 < z < 0.16 from the Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey with a flux limit of r < 19.8. Further, we imp…
