This report outlines a combinatorial recipe for computing the bases, whose elements are oriented polygons, of two cohomology spaces associated to multizeta values: the top dimensional de Rham cohomology of moduli spaces of genus 0 complex pointed curves and the top dimensional de Rham cohomology of certain partial compactifications of these moduli spaces.

The Euler characteristic of local systems on the moduli of curves and abelian varieties of genus three

We show how to calculate the Euler characteristic of a local system associated to an irreducible representation of the symplectic group of genus 3 on the moduli space of curves of genus 3 and the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties of dimension 3.

Classification of genus 3 curves in special strata of the moduli space

We describe the invariants of plane quartic curves -- nonhyperelliptic genus 3 curves in their canonical model -- as determined by Dixmier and Ohno, with application to the classification of curves with given structure. In particular, we determine modular equations for the strata in the moduli space $\Me_3$ of plane quartics which have at least seven hyperflexes, and obtain an computational characterization of curves in these strata.

Equivariant Cohomology of the Moduli Space of Genus Three Curves with Symplectic Level Two Structure via Point Counts

We make cohomological computations related to the moduli space of genus three curves with symplectic level two structure by means of counting points over finite fields. In particular, we determine the cohomology groups of the quartic locus as representations of the symmetric group on seven elements.

Traces of High Powers of the Frobenius Class in the Moduli Space of Hyperelliptic Curves

The Zeta function of a curve $C$ over a finite field may be expressed in terms of the characteristic polynomial of a unitary matrix $Θ_C$. Following the work of Rudnick, we compute the expected value of $\mbox{tr}(Θ_C^n)$ over the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$, over a fixed finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, in the limit of large genus. As an application, we compute the expected value of the number of points on $C$ in $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ as the genus tends to infinity. We also look at biases in both expected values for small values of $n$.

Field of moduli and field of definition for curves of genus 2

Let M_2 be the moduli space that classifies genus 2 curves. If a curve C is defined over a field k, the corresponding moduli point P=[C] is defined over k. Mestre solved the converse problem for curves with Aut(C) isomorphic to C_2. Given a moduli point defined over k, Mestre finds an obstruction to the existence of a corresponding curve defined over k, that is an element in Br_2(k) not always trivial. Integrating simple genus two string invariants over moduli space

We consider an Sp(4,Z) invariant expression involving two factors of the Kawazumi--Zhang (KZ) invariant each of which is a modular graph with one link, and four derivatives on the moduli space of genus two Riemann surfaces. Manipulating it, we show that the integral over moduli space of a linear combination of a modular graph with two links and the square of the KZ invariant reduces to a boundary integral. Connectedness of The Moduli Space of Artin-Schreier Curves of Fixed Genus

We study the moduli space $\mathcal{AS}_{g}$ of Artin-Schreier curves of genus $g$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of positive characteristic $p$. The moduli space is partitioned by irreducible strata, where each stratum parameterizes Artin-Schreier curves whose ramification divisors have the same coefficients. We construct deformations of these curves to study the relations between those strata. As an application, when $p=3$, we prove that $\mathcal{AS}_{g}$ is connected for all possible $g$.
