We present an update of the light meson spectrum with $N_f$=2+1 overlap fermions on a $16^3\times 48$ lattice at five different up and down quark masses and two strange quark masses. Based on our experience with the previous simulation with $N_f=2$, we carry out the chiral extrapolation with the prediction of the chiral perturbation theory at the next-to-next-to leading order. We also check the consistency of our analysis by using alternative chiral extrapolation with a reduced theory in which the strange quark mass is integrated out.
We study the ground state and next radial excitation of the $a_1$ mesons from a quenched lattice QCD simulation with the truncated overlap fermions formalism based on domain wall fermions. Our results are consistent with the experimental values for $a_1$(1260) and $a_1$(1640).
We calculate the vector meson masses in $N_{\rm f} = 2+1$ Wilson chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order. Generalizing the framework of heavy vector meson chiral perturbation theory, the quark mass and the lattice cutoff dependence of the vector meson masses is derived. Our chiral order counting assumes that the lattice cut-off artifacts are of the order of the typical pion momenta, $p \sim aΛ_{\rm QCD}^{2}$. This counting scheme is consistent with the one in the pseudo scalar meson sector where the O($a^2$) terms are included in the leading order chiral Lagrangian.
The charmed-strange meson masses are calculated on a quenched lattice QCD. The charm and strange quark propagators are calculated on the same lattice with the overlap fermion. $16^3\times 72$ lattice with Wilson gauge action at $β=0.6345$ are used. The charm and strange quark masses are determined by fitting the $J/ψ$ and $ϕ$ masses respectively. The charmed strange meson spectrum for the scalar, axial, pseudoscalar and vector channels are calculated. They agree with experiments. In particular, we find the scalar meson mass to be 2248(78)MeV which is in agreement with that of D_{s0}^*(2317).
We briefly review the overlap formalism for chiral gauge theories, the overlap Dirac operator for massless fermions and its connection to domain wall fermions. We describe properties of the overlap Dirac operator, and methods to implement it numerically. Finally, we give some examples of quenched calculations of chiral symmetry breaking and topology with overlap fermions.
We merge heavy quark effective theory with staggered chiral perturbation theory to calculate heavy-light (B, D) meson quantities. We present results at NLO for the $B(D)$ meson decay constant in the partially quenched and full QCD cases, and discuss the calculation of the form factors for $B(D) \to π(K) \ell ν$ decays.
Renormalizability of a lattice chiral fermion is studied at one loop level in the overlap formulation in four dimensions. The fermion chirality is examined including the self-energy corrections due to gauge interactions. Divergent terms breaking the chiral symmetry do not appear and the chiral fermion is renormalized, preserving the correct chiral properties without adding new counter-terms or tuning the parameters involved. The divergent part of the wave function renormalization factor agrees with that of the continuum theory. The overlap formulation of a lattice chiral fermion has passed the…
We investigate the property of the effective action with the chiral overlap operator, which was derived by Grabowska and Kaplan. They proposed a lattice formulation of four-dimensional chiral gauge theory, which is derived from their domain-wall formulation. In this formulation, an extra dimension is introduced and the gauge field along the extra dimension is evolved by the gradient flow. The chiral overlap operator satisfies the Ginsparg-Wilson relation and only depends on the gauge fields on the two boundaries. In this paper, we start from the arbitrary even-dimensional chiral overlap operat…
We report on our study of flavor-singlet mesons in three-flavor QCD with dynamical overlap quarks. Gauge ensembles are generated on a 16^3 x 48 lattice at a lattice spacing of 0.10 fm with the strange quark masses around its physical value m_s,phys and up and down quark masses down to m_s,phys/5. Connected and disconnected meson correlators are calculated using the all-to-all quark propagator. We present our preliminary results on the spectrum of flavor-singlet pseudoscalar and vector mesons.
Three aspects of symmetry structure of lattice chiral fermion in the overlap formalism are discussed. By the weak coupling expansion of the overlap Dirac operator, the axial anomaly associated to the chiral transformation proposed by Luescher is evaluated and is shown to have the correct form of the topological charge density for perturbative backgrounds. Next we discuss the exponential suppression of the self-energy correction of the lightest mode in the domain-wall fermion/truncated overlap. Finally, we consider a supersymmetric extension of the overlap formula in the case of the chiral mult…
We present our latest results for the excitations of static-light mesons on both quenched and unquenched lattices, where the light quarks are simulated using the chirally improved (CI) lattice Dirac operator.
Using the grassman-number-integral representation of the vacuum overlap formula, it is shown that the symmetry of the auxiliary quantum fermion system in the overlap formalism induces exact chiral symmetry of the action of the type given by Luscher under the chiral transformation $δψ_n = γ_5(1-a D)ψ_n$ and $ δ\bar ψ_n = \bar ψ_n γ_5$. With this relation, we consider the connection between the covariant form of the anomaly discussed in the context of the overlap formula and the axial anomaly associated to the exact chiral symmetry in the action formalism. The covariant gauge current in the over…
The overlap formulation is applied to an anomaly free combination of chiral fermions coupled to U(1) gauge fields on a 2D torus. Evidence is presented that gauge averaging the overlap phases in these models produces correct continuum results.
We report meson spectra obtained by using valence overlap fermion propagators generated on a background of 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations on 16^3 X 32, 24^3 X 64 and 32^3 X 64 lattices. We use many-to-all correlators with Z3 grid source and low eigenmode substitution which is efficient in reducing errors for the hadron correlators. The preliminary results on meson spectrum, a0 correlators, and charmonium hyperfine splitting for three sea quark masses are reported here.
In this contribution the costs of simulations employing domain wall and overlap fermions are estimated. In the discussion we will stay within the quenched approximation.
Dynamical nature of the gauge degrees of freedom and its effect to fermion spectrum are studied at $β=\infty$ for two- and four-dimensional nonabelian chiral gauge theories in the vacuum overlap formalism. It is argued that the disordered gauge degrees of freedom does not contradict to the chiral spectrum of lattice fermion.
We present a study of chiral behavior of light meson form factors in QCD with three flavors of overlap quarks. Gauge ensembles are generated at single lattice spacing 0.12 fm with pion masses down to 300 MeV. The pion and kaon electromagnetic form factors and the kaon semileptonic form factors are precisely calculated using the all-to-all quark propagator. We discuss their chiral behavior using the next-to-next-to-leading order chiral perturbation theory.
Using lattice QCD on a $16^{3}\times 24$ lattice at $β=6.0$, we examine the elastic limit of charge overlap functions in the quenched approximation for the pion and rho meson; results are compared to previous direct current insertion calculations. A good signal is seen for the pion, but the electric and magnetic rho meson results are considerably noisier. We find that the pion and rho results are characterized by a monopole mass to rho mass ratio of $0.97(8)$ and $0.73(10)$, respectively. Assuming the functional form of the electric and magnetic form factors are the same, we also find a rho me…
We consider 2+1 flavor Wilson Chiral Perturbation Theory including the lattice spacing contributions of O($a^{2}$). We adopt a power counting appropriate for the unquenched lattice simulations carried out by the CP-PACS/JLQCD collaboration and compute the pseudo scalar meson masses to one loop. These expression are required to perform the chiral extrapolation of the CP-PACS/JLQCD lattice data.
A chiral fermion action allows one to do very clean studies of chiral symmetry breaking in QCD. I will briefly describe how to compute with the overlap action (relatively) cheaply, and then turn to physics: Low modes of the Dirac operator show a ``lumped'' chiral density which peaks at the locations of instantons and anti-instantons. These modes dominate correlation functions at small quark mass in many channels. The picture qualitatively (and in some cases quantitatively) resembles an instanton liquid model.
We compute fermionic observables relevant to the study of chiral symmetry in quenched QCD using the Overlap-Dirac operator for a wide range of the fermion mass. We use analytical results to disentangle the contribution from exact zero modes and simplify our numerical computations. Details concerning the numerical implementation of the Overlap-Dirac operator are presented.
We report on the results of our calculation of meson correlators in a finite volume. The calculation is carried out in the quenched approximation near the chiral limit (down to Mq = 2.6 MeV) using the overlap fermion. For these small quark masses, the scalar and pseudo-scalar correlators are well approximated with a few hundred eigenmodes. The results for both connected and disconnected correlators are compared with the theoretical predictions of quenched chiral perturbation theory.
In highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) simulations by the HPQCD, MILC, and Fermilab Lattice collaborations, both the light quarks and the charm quark are staggered. We extend chiral perturbation theory for staggered quarks to include such all-staggered heavy-light mesons. We assume that the heavy quark action is sufficiently improved that we may take $a m_Q <<1$ (where $m_Q$ is the heavy quark mass), but also that $m_Q>>Λ_{QCD}$ so that a continuum heavy quark expansion is appropriate. We develop this effective chiral theory through next-to-leading order, and use it to study the pattern of …
We report on our calculation of pion and kaon form factors in three-flavor QCD using the overlap quark action. Gauge ensembles are generated on a 16^3 \times 48 lattice at a lattice spacing of 0.11 fm with pion masses down to 310 MeV. Connected and disconnected meson correaltors are calculated using the all-to-all quark propagator. We present our preliminary analysis on the chiral behavior of the electromagnetic and scalar form factors as well as a comparison of the shape of the K to pi form factors with experiment.
Interactions of $a_2, K^*_2, f_2$ and $f_2'$ tensor-mesons with low-energy $π, K, η, η'$ pseudo-scalar mesons are constrained by chiral symmetry. We derive a chiral Lagrangian of tensor mesons in which the tensor mesons are treated as heavy non-relativistic matter fields. Using $1/N_c$ counting, we derive relations among unknown couplings of the chiral Lagrangian. Chiral perturbation theory is applied to the tensor-meson mass matrix. At one-loop there are large corrections to the individual tensor meson masses, but the singlet-octet mixing angle remains almost unchanged. We argue that all heav…
The charmed-strange meson spectrum is calculated with the overlap valence fermions on 2+1 flavor domain wall dynamical configurations for $32^3\times 64$ lattices with a spatial size of 2.7 fm. Both charm and strange quark propagators are calculated with the overlap fermion action. The calculated scalar meson at 2304(22) MeV and axial-vector meson at 2546(27) MeV are in good agreement with the experimental masses of $D{s0}^*$(2317) and $D_{s1}$(2536).
Chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra is expected but it remains to be confirmed both in lattice QCD computations and in experiments. Recently, a theorem was derived, relating chiral symmetry restoration high in the hadron spectra to the spontaneous generation of the dynamical quark mass in QCD. We refine the theorem in the case of static-light mesons. Utilizing chiral quark model computations and lattice QCD results for the spectrum of mesons composed by a static antiquark and a light quark, we explore chiral symmetry restoration in the spectrum and the quark running mass m(k…
We consider chiral loop corrections to the effective couplings which describe the strong interactions of two heavy mesons of even or odd parities and a light pseudoscalar meson, within a framework which combines heavy quark effective theory and chiral perturbation theory. The strong couplings are extracted from the experimental results for the decay widths, after including chiral corrections. We find that the introduction of positive parity heavy meson fields into the framework gives relevant contributions to the chiral loop corrections of the effective couplings. The counterterms' contributio…
We employ a chiral Lagrangian framework with three dynamical flavors to calculate the masses of the lowest-lying vector mesons to one loop accuracy, and use the resulting formulae to extrapolate recent QCDSF lattice data on vector meson masses and mass ratios to the physical point. Our representation for the vector meson self energies also enables us to discuss loop corrections to the $ωϕ$ mixing amplitude.
We first construct the effective chiral Lagrangians for the $1^{-+}$ exotic mesons. With the infrared regularization scheme, we derive the one-loop infrared singular chiral corrections to the $π_1(1600)$ mass explicitly. We investigate the variation of the different chiral corrections with the pion mass under two schemes. Hopefully, the explicit non-analytical chiral structures will be helpful to the chiral extrapolation of the lattice data from the dynamical lattice QCD simulation of either the exotic light hybrid meson or tetraquark state.
The chiral Dirac determinant is calculated using the overlap formalism of Narayanan and Neuberger. We compare the real and imaginary parts of the determinant with the continuum result for perturbative gauge field backgrounds and show that they are identical. Thus we find that the overlap formalism passes a crucial test.
Quenched and partially quenched chiral perturbation theory for vector mesons is developed and is used to extract chiral loop correction to the $ρ$ meson mass. Connections to fully quenched and totally unquenched chiral perturbation theory results are discussed. It is also shown that (partially) quenched perturbation theory for tensor mesons can be formulated analogously, and the chiral corrections for tensor meson masses are directly proportional to their counterparts in the vector meson sector. Utilizing this observation and non-relativistic quark model, we point out that mass difference $(m_…
In this letter we show how the covariant anomaly emerges in the overlap scheme. We also prove that the overlap scheme correctly reproduces the anomaly in the flavour currents such as $j^5_μ$ in vector like theories like QCD.
The chiral Jacobian, which is defined with Neuberger's overlap Dirac operator of the lattice fermion, is explicitly evaluated in the continuum limit without expanding it in the gauge coupling constant. Our calculational scheme is simple and straightforward. We determine a coefficient of the chiral anomaly for general values of the mass parameter and the Wilson parameter of the overlap Dirac operator.
We formulate quenched chiral perturbation theory for heavy-light mesons coupled to pions, and calculate the one-loop chiral logarithmic corrections to $f_B$, $f_{B_{s}}$, $B_B$ and $B_{B_{s}}$. We also calculate these corrections for ``partially quenched'' theories. In both theories, the chiral logarithms diverge in the chiral limit, indicating that (partially) quenched theories should not be used to study this limit. Comparing the chiral logarithms to those in QCD, we estimate the errors caused by (partial) quenching. By forming suitable ratios, we can reduce the uncertainties in our estimate…
We incorporate heavy-light mesons into staggered chiral perturbation theory, working to leading order in 1/m_Q, where m_Q is the heavy quark mass. At first non-trivial order in the chiral expansion, staggered taste violations affect the chiral logarithms for heavy-light quantities only through the light meson propagators in loops. There are also new analytic contributions coming from additional terms in the Lagrangian involving heavy-light and light mesons. Using this heavy-light staggered chiral perturbation theory, we perform the one-loop calculation of the B (or D) meson leptonic decay cons…
We develop quenched chiral perturbation theory for vector mesons made of light quarks, in the limit where the vector meson masses are much larger than the pion mass. We use this theory to extract the leading nonanalytic dependence of the vector meson masses on the masses of the light quarks. By comparing with analogous quantities computed in ordinary chiral perturbation theory, we estimate the size of quenching effects, observing that in general they can be quite large. This estimate is relevant to lattice simulations, where the $ρ$ mass is often used to set the lattice spacing.
The standard QCD action is improved by the addition of irrelevant operators built with chiral composites. An effective Lagrangian is derived in terms of auxiliary fields, which has the form of the phenomenological chiral Lagrangians. Our improved QCD action appears promising for numerical simulations as the pion physics is explicitely accounted for by the auxiliary fields.
We propose $D$ mesons as probes to investigate finite-volume effects for chiral symmetry breaking at zero and finite temperature. By using the $2+1$-flavor linear-sigma model with constituent light quarks, we analyze the Casimir effects for the $σ$ mean fields: The chiral symmetry is rapidly restored by the antiperiodic boundary for light quarks, and the chiral symmetry breaking is catalyzed by the periodic boundary. We also show the phase diagram of the $σ$ mean fields on the volume and temperature plane. For $D$ mesons, we employ an effective model based on the chiral-partner structure, wher…
The overlap formula for the chiral determinant is presented and the realization of gauge anomalies and gauge field toplogy in this context is discussed. The ability of the overlap formalism to deal with supersymmetric theories and Majorana-Weyl fermions is outlined. Two applications of the overlap formalism are discussed in some detail. One application is the computation of a fermion number violating process in a two dimensional U(1) chiral gauge theory. The second application is a measurement of the probability ditribution of the index of the chiral Dirac operator in four dimensional pure SU(…
In this letter we compute the leading chiral corrections to the ratio between the tensor and the vector decay couplings for the lowest lying vector meson multiplet (rho, K^*, phi). We show that the leading chiral logarithms arise from tadpole contributions and are therefore entirely fixed by chiral symmetry, while the next to leading corrections are purely analytic. Interestingly, the flavour structure of the chiral logarithms implies that only the rho meson is sensitive to pion logarithms. By examining SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)_S theories we show that this result can be easily understo…
We present the first step towards the estimation of finite volume effects in heavy-light meson systems using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory. We demonstrate that these effects can be amplified in both light-quark and heavy-quark mass extrapolations (interpolations) in lattice calculations. As an explicit example, we perform a one-loop calculation for the neutral B meson mixing system and show that finite volume effects, which can be comparable with currently quoted errors, are not negligible in both quenched and partially quenched QCD.
The overlap formula proposed by Narayanan and Neuberger in chiral gauge theories is examined. The free chiral and Dirac Green's functions are constructed in this formalism. Four dimensional anomalies are calculated and the usual anomaly cancellation for one standard family of quarks and leptons is verified.
The effective action induced by chiral fermions can be written, formally, as an overlap of two states. These states are the Fock ground states of Hamiltonians for fermions in even dimensional space with opposite sign mass terms coupled to identical static vector potentials. A perturbative analysis of the overlap in the continuum framework produces the correct anomaly for Abelian gauge fields in two dimensions. When a lattice transfer matrix formalism is applied in the direction perpendicular to a domain wall on which chiral fermions live a lattice version of the overlap is obtained. The real p…
A fast restoration of chiral symmetry in excited mesons is demonstrated. A minimal "realistic" chirally symmetric confining model is used, where the only interaction between quarks is the linear instantaneous Lorentz-vector confining potential. Chiral symmetry breaking is generated via the nonperturbative resummation of valence quarks self-energy loops and the meson bound states are obtained from the Bethe-Salpeter equation. The excited mesons fall into approximate chiral multiplets and lie on the approximately linear radial and angular Regge trajectories, though a significant deviation from t…
The overlap hypercube fermion is a variant of a chirally symmetric lattice fermion, which is endowed with a higher level of locality than the standard overlap fermion. We apply this formulation in quenched QCD simulations with light quarks. In the p-regime we evaluate the masses of light pseudoscalar and vector mesons, as well as the pion decay constant and the renormalisation constant Z_A. In the epsilon-regime we present results for the leading Low Energy Constants of the chiral Lagrangian, Sigma and F_pi. To this end, we perform fits to predictions by chiral Random Matrix Theory and by diff…
Using interpolators with different SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R transformation properties we study the chiral symmetry and spin contents of the rho- and rho'-mesons in lattice simulations with dynamical quarks. A ratio of couplings of the $\qbarγ^iτq$ and $\qbarσ^{0i}τq$ interpolators to a given meson state at different resolution scales tells one about the degree of chiral symmetry breaking in the meson wave function at these scales. Using a Gaussian gauge invariant smearing of the quark fields in the interpolators, we are able to extract the chiral content of mesons up to the infrared resolution o…
We describe a conceptually simple, but important test for the overlap approach to the construction of lattice chiral gauge theories. We explain the equivalence of the overlap formula with a certain waveguide model for a simple set of gauge configurations (the trivial orbit). This equivalence is helpful in carrying out the test, and casts serious doubts on the viability of the overlap approach. A recent note by Narayanan and Neuberger which points out a mistake in our previous work is irrelevant in this context.
The low-energy chiral effective field theory of vector mesons and Goldstone bosons in external gravitational field is considered. The energy-momentum tensor is obtained and the gravitational form factors of the $ρ$-meson are calculated up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. This amounts to considering tree-level and one-loop order diagrams. The chiral expansion of the form factors at zero momentum transfer as well as of the slope parameters is worked out. Also, the long-range behaviour of the energy and internal force distributions is obtained and analysed.
