Taking into account effects of late energy injection, we examine big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) constraints on axino dark matter scenarios with long-lived charged sleptons. We calculate 4-body slepton decays into the axino, a lepton, and a quark-antiquark pair since they govern late hadronic energy injection and associated BBN constraints. For supersymmetric hadronic axion models, we present the obtained hadronic BBN constraints and show that they can be more restrictive than the ones associated with catalyzed BBN via slepton-bound-state formation. From the BBN constraints on hadronic and electromagnetic energy release, we find new upper limits on the Peccei-Quinn scale.
We point out that 7 keV axino dark matter (DM) in the R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetric (SUSY) Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky model can simultaneously reproduce the 3.5keV X-ray excess, and evade stringent constraints from the Ly-alpha forest data. Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking naturally generates both axino interactions with minimal SUSY standard model particles and RPV interactions. The RPV interaction introduces an axino-neutrino mixing and provides axino DM as a variant of sterile neutrino DM, whose decay into a monochromatic photon can be detected by X-ray observations. Axinos,…
The axino with mass in the GeV region can be cold dark matter(CDM) in the galactic halo. However, if R-parity is broken, for example by the bilinear terms $μ_α$, then axino($\tilde a$) can decay to $ν+γ$. In this case, the most stringent bound on the axino lifetime comes from the diffuse photon background and we obtain that the axino lifetime should be greater than $3.9\times 10^{24}Ω_{\tilde a}h$ s which amounts to a very small bilinear R-parity violation, i.e. $μ_α<1$ keV. This invalidates the atmospheric neutrino mass generation through bilinear R-violating terms within the context of axino…
We consider axino dark matter in large R-parity violation (RPV). In moduli-dominated universe, axino is produced thermally or non-thermally via saxion decay, then late-decaying moduli dilute axino density, which results in the right abundance to explain the present dark matter. At the same time baryon asymmetry is generated due to moduli-induced baryogenesis via the large RPV. Axino is cosmologically stable in spite of the large RPV since its decay rate is suppressed by the axion decay constant, heavy squark mass or kinematics.
In this work, we investigate the dark sector of a supersymmetric axion model, consisting of the late-decaying gravitino/axino dark matter and axion dark radiation. In the early universe, the decay of the scalar superpartner of the axion (saxion) will produce a large amount of entropy. The additional entropy can not only dilute the relic density of the gravitino/axino dark matter to avoid overclosing the universe but also relax the constraint on the reheating temperature $T_{R}$ after inflation. Meanwhile, the axion dark radiation from the saxion decay will increase the effective number of neut…
Gravitinos and axinos produced in the late decays of other supersymmetric particles are well-motivated dark matter (DM) candidates, whose experimental evidences are very distinctive and different from other standard candidates, as thermal produced neutralinos in similar supersymmetric models. In particular, charged sleptons could appear stable because of the length of its lifetime. The direct production of such particles at both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and a future International Linear Collider (ILC) can give not only a clear signature of supersymmetry but also the first non-gravitatio…
Recent studies of the cosmic microwave background, large scale structure, and big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) show trends towards extra radiation. Within the framework of supersymmetric hadronic axion models, we explore two high-reheating-temperature scenarios that can explain consistently extra radiation and cold dark matter (CDM), with the latter residing either in gravitinos or in axions. In the gravitino CDM case, axions from decays of thermal saxions provide extra radiation already prior to BBN and decays of axinos with a cosmologically required TeV-scale mass can produce extra entropy. In…
A successful implementation of thermal leptogenesis requires the re-heat temperature after inflation T_R to exceed ~2\times 10^9 GeV. Such a high T_R value typically leads to an overproduction of gravitinos in the early universe, which will cause conflicts, mainly with BBN constraints. Asaka and Yanagida (AY) have proposed that these two issues can be reconciled in the context of the Peccei-Quinn augmented MSSM (PQMSSM) if one adopts a mass hierarchy m(sparticle)>m(gravitino)>m(axino), with m(axino) keV. We calculate the relic abundance of mixed axion/axino dark matter in the AY scenario, and …
Simple SUSY GUT models based on the gauge group SO(10) require t-b-τYukawa coupling unification, in addition to gauge coupling and matter unification. The Yukawa coupling unification places strong constraints on the expected superparticle mass spectrum, with scalar masses \sim 10 TeV while gaugino masses are quite light. A problem generic to all supergravity models comes from overproduction of gravitinos in the early universe: if gravitinos are unstable, then their late decays may destroy the predictions of Big Bang nucleosynthesis. We present a Yukawa-unified SO(10) SUSY GUT scenario which av…
We calculate the relic abundance of mixed axion/neutralino cold dark matter which arises in R-parity conserving supersymmetric (SUSY) models wherein the strong CP problem is solved by the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) mechanism with a concommitant axion/saxion/axino supermultiplet. By numerically solving the coupled Boltzmann equations, we include the combined effects of 1. thermal axino production with cascade decays to a neutralino LSP, 2. thermal saxion production and production via coherent oscillations along with cascade decays and entropy injection, 3. thermal neutralino production and re-annihilati…
The latest Lyman-$α$ forest data severely constrain the conventional warm dark matter solution to small-scale issues in the cold dark matter paradigm. It has been also reported that unconstrained astrophysical processes may address the issues. In response to this situation, we revisit the decaying dark matter solution to the issues, discussing possible signatures to discriminate decaying dark matter from astrophysical processes as a solution to small-scale issues. We consider an axinolike particle (ALPino) decaying into an axionlike particle (ALP) and gravitino with the lifetime around the age…
We consider supersymmetric (SUSY) models wherein the strong CP problem is solved by the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) mechanism with a concommitant axion/axino supermultiplet. We examine R-parity conserving models where the neutralino is the lightest SUSY particle, so that a mixture of neutralinos and axions serve as cold dark matter. The mixed axion/neutralino CDM scenario can match the measured dark matter abundance for SUSY models which typically give too low a value of the usual thermal neutralino abundance, such as models with wino-like or higgsino-like dark matter. The usual thermal neutralino abund…
A new scheme for lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) dark matter is introduced and studied in theories of TeV supersymmetry with a QCD axion, $a$, and a high reheat temperature after inflation, $T_R$. A large overproduction of axinos ($\tilde{a}$) and gravitinos ($\tilde{G}$) from scattering at $T_R$, and from freeze-in at the TeV scale, is diluted by the late decay of a saxion condensate that arises from inflation. The two lightest superpartners are $\tilde{a}$, with mass of order the TeV scale, and $\tilde{G}$ with mass $m_{3/2}$ anywhere between the keV and TeV scales, depending on the m…
Since it became evident that the CDM model for cosmic structure formation predicts smaller power on large scales than observed, many alternatives have been suggested. Among them, the existence of late decaying particle can cure it by delaying the beginning of the matter domination and increasing the horizon length at that time. We discuss the realization of this scenario and present the light neutrino and the light axino as possible examples of working particle physics model. We point out that the increased power at sub-galaxy scale predicted by this scenario could lead to rich sub-galaxy stru…
Many theories of particle physics beyond the Standard Model predict long-lived fields that may have dominated the Universe at early times and then decayed. Their decay, which injects entropy in the thermal bath, is responsible for a second reheating, dubbed re-reheating, that could substantially dilute the matter-antimatter asymmetry created before. In this paper we analyze such late re-reheating and entropy dilution. It turns out that in some cases the usual analytic calculation badly fails if it is not rectified by some corrective factors that we provide. We also determine the parameter spac…
Although the standard ΛCDM model describes the cosmic microwave background radiation and the large scale structure of the Universe with great success, it has some tensions with observations in the effective number of neutrino species (dark radiation) and the number of small scale structures (overabundance problem). Here we propose a scenario which can relax these tensions by producing both dark matter and dark radiation by late decays of heavy particle. Thanks to the generation mechanism, dark matters are rather warm so that the small-scale structure problem is resolved. This scenario can be n…
We use the latest cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations to provide updated constraints on the dark matter lifetime as well as on p-wave suppressed annihilation cross sections in the 1 MeV to 1 TeV mass range. In contrast to scenarios with an s-wave dominated annihilation cross section, which mainly affect the CMB close to the last scattering surface, signatures associated with these scenarios essentially appear at low redshifts ($z \lesssim 50$) when structure began to form, and thus manifest at lower multipoles in the CMB power spectrum. We use data from Planck, WMAP9, SPT and ACT, a…
SuperWeakly-Interacting Massive Particles (superWIMPs) produced in the late decays of other particles are well-motivated dark matter candidates and may be favored over standard Weakly-Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) by small scale structure observations. Among the most promising frameworks that incorporate superWIMPs are R-parity conserving supersymmetry models in which the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is the gravitino or the axino. In these well-defined particle models, astrophysical observations have direct implications for possible measurements at future colliders.

We compute the dark matter relic densities of neutralinos and axions in a supersymmetric model with a gauged anomalous U(1) symmetry, kinetically mixed with $U(1)_Y$ of hypercharge. The model is a variant of the USSM (the U(1) extended NMSSM), containing an extra U(1) symmetry and an extra singlet in the superpotential respect to the MSSM, where gauge invariance is restored by Peccei-Quinn interactions using a Stuckelberg multiplet. This approach introduces an axion (Im b) and a saxion (Re b) in the spectrum and generates an axino component for the neutralino. The Stuckelberg axion (Im b) deve…
