We show numerically that quarks develop an electric dipole moment in the direction of a sufficiently intense magnetic field due to local fluctuations of topological charge. This anomalous CP-odd effect is a spin analogue of the Chiral Magnetic Effect in QCD.
The connection between a regularization-independent symmetric momentum substraction (RI-$\tilde{\rm S}$MOM) and the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme for the quark chromo EDM operators is discussed. A method for evaluating the neutron EDM from quark chromoEDM is described. A preliminary study of the signal in the matrix element using clover quarks on a highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) ensemble is shown.
Electric dipole moments (EDMs) of nucleons and nuclei, which are sought as evidence of CP violation, require lattice calculations to connect constraints from experiments to limits on the strong CP violation within QCD or CP violation introduced by new physics from beyond the standard model. Nucleon EDM calculations on a lattice are notoriously hard due to large statistical noise, chiral symmetry violating effects, and potential mixing of the EDM and the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon. In this report, details of ongoing lattice calculations of proton and neutron EDMs induced by the QC…
We respond to a paper of Flambaum, et.al. [Phys. Rev. D95, no. 5, 058701 (2017)], claiming there is no effective induced oscillating electric dipole moment, e.g., for the electron, arising from interaction with an oscillating cosmic axion background via the anomaly. The relevant Feynman amplitude, Fig.(1), as computed by Flambaum et.al., becomes a total divergence, and vanishes. Contrary to this result, we obtained a nonvanishing amplitude, that yields physical electric dipole radiation for an electron (or any magnetic dipole moment) immersed in a cosmic axion field. We argue that the Flambaum…
About possibility to measure an electric dipole moment (EDM) of nuclei in the range $10^{-27} ÷10^{-32}$ $e \cdot cm$ in experiments for search of time-reversal violating generation of magnetic and electric fields
The axion electromagnetic anomaly induces an oscillating electric dipole for {\em any} static magnetic dipole. Static electric dipoles do not produce oscillating magnetic moments. This is a low energy theorem which is a consequence of the space-time dependent cosmic background field of the axion in the limit that it is only locally time dependent $(\overrightarrowβ=0)$. The electron will acquire an oscillating electric dipole of frequency $m_a$ and strength $\sim 10^{-32}$ e-cm, three orders of magnitude above the nucleon, and within four orders of magnitude of the present standard model DC li…
The anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments in spin motion equation acquire pseudoscalar corrections if the $T(CP)$-noninvariance is admitted. It allows to explain the discrepancy between experimental and theoretical values of muon $(g-2)$ factor under assumption that the pseudoscalar correction is the dominant source of this discrepancy.
In the context of supersymmetry, the two-loop Barr-Zee diagrams which induce CP-violating electric dipole moment of electron due to superpartners simultaneously yield CP-conserving magnetic dipole moment of muon. In this paper, we derive the coherence between the electric and magnetic dipole moments at two-loop level due to stops, charginos or neutralinos-charginos. We also use the coherence to constrain superpartner masses and their CP-violating phases, in the light of recent ACME limit on the electric dipole moment of electron and future experiments about magnetic dipole moment of muon such …
We address the impact of sterile fermions on charged lepton electric dipole moments. We show that in order to have a non-vanishing contribution to electric dipole moments, the minimal extension necessitates the addition of at least two sterile fermion states. Sterile neutrinos can give significant contributions to the charged lepton electric dipole moments if the masses of the non-degenerate sterile states are both above the electroweak scale. In addition, the Majorana nature of neutrinos is also important. Furthermore, we apply the computations of the electric dipole moments for the most mini…
The neutron, in addition to possibly having a permanent electric dipole moment as a consequence of violation of time-reversal invariance, develops an induced electric dipole moment in the presence of an external electric field. We present here a unified non-relativistic description of these two phenomena, in which the dipole moment operator, $\vec{\cal D}$, is not constrained to lie along the spin operator. Although the expectation value of $\vec{\cal D}$ in the neutron is less than $10^{-13}$ of the neutron radius, $r_n$, the expectation value of $\vec {\cal D}\,^2$ is of order $r_n^2$. We de…
Searches for permanent electric dipole moments of fundamental particles and systems with spin are the experiments most sensitive to new CP violating physics and a top priority of a growing international community. We briefly review the current status of the field emphasizing on the charged leptons and lightest baryons.
