We study the noncommutative ϕ^4_4-quantum field theory at the self-duality point. This model is renormalisable to all orders as shown in earlier work of us and does not have a Landau ghost problem. Using the Ward identity of Disertori, Gurau, Magnen and Rivasseau, we obtain from the Schwinger-Dyson equation a non-linear integral equation for the renormalised two-point function alone. The non-trivial renormalised four-point function fulfils a linear integral equation with the inhomogeneity determined by the two-point function. These integral equations are the starting point for a perturbative solution. In this way, the renormalised correlation functions are directly obtained, without Feynman graph computation and further renormalisation steps
We describe some recent progress in our understanding of Yang-Mills theories formulated on noncommutative spaces and in particular how to formulate the standard model on such spaces.
Interactions of noncommutative solitons in a modified U(n) sigma model in 2+1 dimensions can be analyzed exactly. Using an extension of the dressing method, we construct explicit time-dependent solutions of its noncommutative field equation by iteratively solving linear equations. The approach is illustrated by presenting bound states and right-angle scattering configurations for two noncommutative solitons.
We study the Wigner Function in non-commutative quantum mechanics. By solving the time independent Schrödinger equation both on a non-commutative (NC) space and a non-commutative phase space, we obtain the Wigner Function for the harmonic oscillator on NC space and NC phase space respectively.
Interactions of noncommutative waves and solitons in 2+1 dimensions can be analyzed exactly for a supersymmetric and integrable U(n) chiral model extending the Ward model. Using the Moyal-deformed dressing method in an antichiral superspace, we construct explicit time-dependent solutions of its noncommutative field equations by iteratively solving linear equations. The approach is illustrated by presenting scattering configurations for two noncommutative U(2) plane waves and for two noncommutative U(2) solitons as well as by producing a noncommutative U(1) two-soliton bound state.
In this paper, we review the progress in the analysis of magnetic monopoles as generalized states in quantum mechanics. We show that the considered model contains rich algebraic structure that generates symmetries which have been utilized in different physical contexts. Even though are we focused on quantum mechanics in noncommutative space $\textbf{R}_λ^3$, the results can be reconstructed in ordinary quantum mechanics in $\textbf{R}^3$ as well.
The HMW effect in non-commutative quantum mechanics is studied. By solving the Dirac equations on non-commutative (NC) space and non-commutative phase space, we obtain topological HMW phase on NC space and NC phase space respectively, where the additional terms related to the space-space and momentum-momentum non-commutativity are given explicitly.
An electron moving on plane in a uniform magnetic field orthogonal to plane is known as the Landau problem. Wigner functions for the Landau problem when the plane is noncommutative are found employing solutions of the Schroedinger equation as well as solving the ordinary *-genvalue equation in terms of an effective Hamiltonian. Then, we let momenta and coordinates of the phase space be noncommutative and introduce a generalized *-genvalue equation. We solve this equation to find the related Wigner functions and show that under an appropriate choice of noncommutativity relations they are indepe…
We review recent progress in formulating two-dimensional models over noncommutative manifolds where the space-time coordinates enter in the formalism as non-commuting matrices. We describe the Fuzzy sphere and a way to approximate topological nontrivial configurations using matrix models. We obtain an ultraviolet cut off procedure, which respects the symmetries of the model. The treatment of spinors results from a supersymmetric formulation; our cut off procedure preserves even the supersymmetry.
The Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect in non-commutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is studied. First, by introducing a shift for the magnetic vector potential we give the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equations in the presence of a magnetic field on NC space and NC phase space, respectively. Then by solving the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equations, we obtain the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phase on NC space and NC phase space, respectively.
I give a summary of the progress made on using the elegant construction of Alain Connes noncommutaive geometry to explore the nature of space-time at very high energies. In particular I show that by making very few natural and weak assumptions about the structure of the noncommutative space, one can deduce the structure of all fundamental interactions at low energies.
The progress of noncommutative geometry has been crucially influenced, from the beginning, by quantum physics: we review this development in recent years. The Standard Model, with its central role for the Dirac operator, led to several formulations culminating in the concept of a real spectral triple. String theory then came into contact with NCG, leading to an emphasis on Moyal-like algebras and formulations of quantum field theory on noncommutative spaces. Hopf algebras have yielded an unexpected link between the noncommutative geometry of foliations and perturbative quantum field theory. Th…
The Aharonov-Casher (AC) effect in non-commutative(NC) quantum mechanics is studied. Instead of using the star product method, we use a generalization of Bopp's shift method. After solving the Dirac equations both on noncommutative space and noncommutative phase space by the new method, we obtain the corrections to AC phase on NC space and NC phase space respectively.
In this paper we define a causal Lorentz covariant noncommutative (NC) classical Electrodynamics. We obtain an explicit realization of the NC theory by solving perturbatively the Seiberg-Witten map. The action is polynomial in the field strenght $F$, allowing to preserve both causality and Lorentz covariance. The general structure of the Lagrangian is studied, to all orders in the perturbative expansion in the NC parameter $θ$. We show that monochromatic plane waves are solutions of the equations of motion to all orders. An iterative method has been developed to solve the equations of motion a…
The Landau problem in non-commutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is studied. First by solving the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equations on noncommutative(NC) space we obtain the Landau energy levels and the energy correction that is caused by space-space noncommutativity. Then we discuss the noncommutative phase space case, namely, space-space and momentum-momentum non-commutative case, and we get the explicit expression of the Hamiltonian as well as the corresponding eigenfunctions and eigenvalues.
We discuss extension of soliton theory and integrable systems to noncommutative spaces, focusing on integrable aspects of noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations. We give wide class of exact solutions by solving a Riemann-Hilbert problem for the Atiyah-Ward ansatz and present Backlund transformations for the G=U(2) noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations. We find that one kind of noncommutative determinants, quasideterminants, play crucial roles in the construction of noncommutative solutions. We also discuss reduction of a noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equatio…
In this thesis we discuss some nonperturbative and noncommutative aspects of string theory. We present low-energy background field solutions corresponding to various D-branes (and their bound states) and intersecting branes in flat and pp-wave spacetime. A class of D-brane bound states are constructed from charged macroscopic strings and they are shown to satisfy the mass-charge relationship of 1/2 BPS bound states. Another class of D-branes and intersecting branes are constructed, by solving the type II field equations explicitly, in pp-wave background with constant and non-constant flux. The…
We develop the noncommutative harmonic space (NHS) analysis to study the problem of solving the non-linear constraint eqs of noncommutative Yang-Mills self-duality in four-dimensions. We show that this space, denoted also as NHS($η,θ$), has two SU(2) isovector deformations $η^{(ij)}$ and $θ^{(ij)}$ parametrising respectively two noncommutative harmonic subspaces NHS($η,0$) and NHS($0,θ$) used to study the self-dual and anti self-dual noncommutative Yang-Mills solutions. We formulate the Yang-Mills self-dual constraint eqs on NHS($η,0$) by extending the idea of harmonic analyticity to linearize…
We show that (2+1) dimensional noncommutative Dirac oscillator in an external magnetic field is mapped onto the same but with reduced angular frequency in absence of magnetic field. We construct the relativistic Landau levels by solving corresponding Dirac equation in (2+1) dimensional noncommutative phase space. We observe that lowest Landau levels are exactly same as in commutative space and independent of non-commutative parameter. All the Landau levels become independent of noncommutative parameter for a critical value of the magnetic field. Several other interesting features along with th…
Relevance of local GL(d,R) Lie group for solving quantum ADM constraints is pointed out. Noncommutative harmonic analysis on $GL(d,R)/O(d)$ provides a natural basis and techniques for calculations. This is summarized. Such a basis is explicitly constructed for space dimension $d=2$.
Recent progress in the understanding of gravity on noncommutative spaces is discussed. A gravity theory naturally emerges from matrix models of noncommutative gauge theory. The effective metric depends on the dynamical Poisson structure, absorbing the degrees of freedom of the would-be U(1) gauge field. The gravity action is induced upon quantization.
Relativistic and nonrelativistic Landau levels for the noncommutative quantum Hall effect with anomalous magnetic moment in a conical Gödel-type spacetime
We consider a two-point spatial lattice approximation to an open string moving in a flat background with B field. It gives a constrained dipole system under the influence of a vector potential. Solving and quantizing this system recover all the essential features of a noncommutative space. In particular, open string interactions induce a canonical product structure on the Hilbert space of the dipole system. It coincides with the usual star product, even though the position operators can be thought of as mutually commuting. Modification of gauge transformations in this noncommutative space also…
We study modifications of the Schwarzschild solution within the noncommutative gauge theory of gravity. In the present analysis, the deformed solutions are obtained by solving the field equations perturbatively, up to the second order in the noncommutativity parameter $Θ$, for both exterior and interior solutions of the equations of motion for $e_μ^a \left(x\right)$. Remarkably, we find that this new noncommutive solution is analogous to the Reissner-Nordström solution in the ordinary spacetime, in which the square of electric charge is replaced by the square of the noncommutativity parameter,…
In this paper we shall investigate the possibility of solving U(1) theories on the non-commutative (NC) plane for arbitrary values of $θ$ by exploiting Morita equivalence. This duality maps the NC U(1) on the two-torus with a rational parameter $θ$ to the standard U(N) theory in the presence of a 't Hooft flux, whose solution is completely known. Thus, assuming a smooth dependence on $θ$, we are able to construct a series rational approximants of the original theory, which is finally reached by taking the large $N-$limit at fixed 't Hooft flux. As we shall see, this procedure hides some sublet…
This manuscript aims at giving our new advance on the functional renormalization group applied to tensorial group field theory. It is based on a series of our three papers [arXiv:1803.09902], [arXiv:1809.00247] and [arXiv:1809.06081]. We consider the polynomial Abelian $U(1)^d$ models without closure constraint, especially we discuss the case of quartic melonic interaction. We present a new approach to solve the exact Wetterich flow equation called the effective vertex expansion method, and investigate the resulting flow equations, especially about the existence of non-Gaussian fixed points fo…
This is a brief review of recent progress in constructing solutions to the matrix model Virasoro equations. These equations are parameterized by a degree n polynomial W_n(x), and the general solution is labeled by an arbitrary function of n-1 coefficients of the polynomial. We also discuss in this general framework a special class of (multi-cut) solutions recently studied in the context of \cal N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories.
It is shown that there exists an on-shell light cone gauge where half of the fermionic components of the super vector potential vanish, so that part of the superspace flatness conditions becomes linear. After reduction to $(1+1)$ space-time dimensions, the general solution of this subset of equations is derived. The remaining non-linear equations are written in a form which is analogous to Yang equations, albeit with superderivatives involving sixteen fermionic coordinates. It is shown that this non-linear part may, nevertheless, be solved by methods similar to powerful technics previously dev…
We study the physics of D-branes in the presence of constant Ramond-Ramond potentials. In the string field theory context, we first develop a general formalism to analyze open strings in gauge trivial closed string backgrounds, and then apply it both to the RNS string and within Berkovits' covariant formalism, where the results have the most natural interpretation. The most remarkable finding is that, in the presence of a Dp-brane, both a constant parallel NS-NS B-field and R-R C^(p-1)-field do not solve the open/closed equations of motion, and induce the same non-vanishing open string tadpole…
The field equations of noncommutative gravity can be obtained by replacing all exterior products by twist-deformed exterior products in the action functional of general relativity, and are here studied by requiring that the torsion 2-form should vanish, and that the Lorentz-Lie-algebra- valued part of the full connection 1-form should be self-dual. Other two conditions, expressing self-duality of a pair 2-forms occurring in the full curvature 2-form, are also imposed. This leads to a systematic solution strategy, here displayed for the first time, where all parts of the connection 1-form are f…
Just like decent classical difference-difference systems define symplectic maps on suitable phase spaces, their counterparts with properly ordered noncommutative entries come as Heisenberg equations of motion for corresponding quantum discrete-discrete models. We observe how this idea applies to a difference-difference counterpart of the Liouville equation. We produce explicit forms of of its evolution operator for the two natural space-time coordinate systems. We discover that discrete-discrete models inherit crucial features of their continuous-time parents like locality and integrability wh…
We put forward ideas to a novel string field theory based on making some "objects" that essentially describe "liberated" left- and right- mover fields $X^μ_{L}(τ+ σ)$ and $X^μ_{R}(τ- σ)$ on the string. The main progress is that we manage to make our novel string field theory provide the correct mass square spectrum for the string. An interesting detail is that we have to dispense of a species doubler caused by the discretization we introduced in our string field theory of the string right- and left- mover variables. We finally suggest how to obtain the Veneziano amplitude in our model.
We investigate the Seiberg-Witten monopole equations on noncommutative(N.C.) R^4 at the large N.C. parameter limit, in terms of the equivariant cohomology. In other words, N}=2 supersymmetric U(1) gauge theories with hypermultiplet on N.C. R}^4 are studied. It is known that after topological twisting partition functions of N}>1 supersymmetric theories on N.C. R^2D are invariant under N.C.parameter shift, then the partition functions can be calculated by its dimensional reduction. At the large N.C. parameter limit, the Seiberg-Witten monopole equations are reduced to ADHM equations with the Dir…
We study the matrix ansatz in the quantum group framework, applying integrable systems techniques to statistical physics models. We start by reviewing the two approaches, and then show how one can use the former to get new insight on the latter. We illustrate our method by solving a model of reaction-diffusion. An eigenvector for the transfer matrix for the XXZ spin chain with non-diagonal boundary is also obtained using a matrix ansatz.
Fundamental theories, such as Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) promise great predictive power addressing phenomena over vast scales from the microscopic to cosmic scales. However, new non-perturbative tools are required for physics to span from one scale to the next. I outline recent theoretical and computational progress to build these bridges and provide illustrative results for Hamiltonian Light Front Field Theory. One key area is our development of basis function approaches that cast the theory as a Hamiltonian matrix problem while preserving a maximal set of …
