A method of determining the mass spectrum of BPS D-branes in any phase limit of a gauged linear sigma model is introduced. A ring associated to monodromy is defined and one considers K-theory to be a module over this ring. A simple but interesting class of hybrid models with Landau-Ginzburg fibres over CPn are analyzed using special Kaehler geometry and D-brane probes. In some cases the hybrid limit is an infinite distance in moduli space and corresponds to a decompactification. In other cases the hybrid limit is at a finite distance and acquires massless D-branes. An example studied appears to correspond to a novel theory of supergravity with an SU(2) gauge symmetry where the gauge and gravitational couplings are necessarily tied to each other.
In the context of the superstring theory, we calculate the radiation amplitude of a general massless closed string from the interaction of two parallel D$p$-branes. The background field is the constant antisymmetric tensor $B_{μν}$, and the branes have been equipped with the different $U(1)$ gauge fields. For the large distance of the branes, the Kalb-Ramond emission will be investigated.
In this paper we study fermion localization and resonances on a special type of braneworld model supporting brane splitting. In such models one can construct multi-wall branes which cause considerable simplification in field equations. We use a polynomial superpotential to construct this brane. The suitable Yukawa coupling between the background scalar field and localized fermion is determined. The massive fermion resonance spectrum is obtained. The number of resonances is increased for higher values of Yukawa coupling.
We study limits of infinite distance in the moduli space of 4d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ string compactifications, in which instanton effects dominate. We first consider trajectories in the hypermultiplet moduli space of type IIB Calabi-Yau compactifications. We observe a correspondence between towers of D-brane instantons and D-brane 4d strings, such that the lighter the string the more relevant the instanton effects are. The dominant instantons modify the classical trajectory such that the lightest D-brane string becomes tensionless even faster, while the other strings are prevented to go below the …
In this paper, we investigate localization of a bulk massless q-form field on codimension-one brane by using a new Kaluza-Klein (KK) decomposition, for which there are two types of KK modes for the bulk q-form field, the q-form and (q-1)-form modes. The first modes may be massive or massless while the second ones are all masselss. These two types fo KK modes satisfy twy Schrodinger-like equations. For a five-dimensional brane model with a finite dimension, the spectrum of a bulk 3-form field on the brane consists of some massive bound 3-form KK modes as well as some massless bound 2-form ones …
The scalar scattering cross section is computed for Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black holes on the brane. The cross sections are computed numerically via the partial-wave method. The phase shifts are found numerically and also via the Born approximation. It is shown that spacetimes with more than six dimensions present a finite scattering cross section in all directions.
As a refinement of the Swampland Distance Conjecture, we propose that a quantum gravitational theory in an infinite distance limit of its moduli space either decompactifies, or reduces to an asymptotically tensionless, weakly coupled string theory. We support our claim by classifying, as special cases, the behaviour of M-Theory and Type IIA string theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau three-folds at infinite distances in Kahler moduli space. The analysis comprises three parts: We first classify the possible infinite distance limits in the classical Kahler moduli space of a Calabi-Yau three-fo…
Gauge/Gravity Correspondence from Open/Closed String Duality
We study the quasinormal modes of the massless scalar field of charged black holes embedded in the Randal-Sundrum brane world using the third order WKB approximation. We consider the effects of the electromagnetic and tidal charges on quasinormal frequencies spectrum for charged black hole black holes as well as the effect of the thickness of the bulk.
Supergravity models with spontaneously broken supersymmetry have been widely investigated over the years, together with some notable non-linear limits. Although in these models the gravitino becomes naturally massive absorbing the degrees of freedom of a Nambu-Goldstone fermion, there are cases in which the naive counting of degrees of freedom does not apply, in particular because of the absence of explicit gravitino mass terms in unitary gauge. The corresponding models require non-trivial de Sitter-like backgrounds, and it becomes of interest to clarify the fate of their Nambu-Goldstone modes…
We study eikonal scattering in the context of Kaluza-Klein theory by considering a massless scalar field coupled to Einstein's gravity in 5D compactified to 4D on a manifold $M_4\times S^1 $. We also examine various different kinematic limits of the resulting eikonal. In the ultra-relativistic scattering case we find correspondence with the time delay calculated for a massless particle moving in a compactified version of the Aichelburg-Sexl shock-wave geometry. In the case of a massless Kaluza-Klein scalar scattering off a heavy Kaluza-Klein mode a similar calculation yields the deflection ang…
