The motivations for the NMSSM are reviewed, and possible unconventional signals for Higgs and sparticle production at the LHC are discussed. In the presence of a light pseudoscalar, the SM-like Higgs scalar can decay dominantly into a 4-tau final state. In the fully constrained NMSSM with mSUGRA-like soft SUSY breaking terms, the correct dark matter relic density is obtained for a singlino-like LSP which modifies considerably all sparticle decay chains.
In this thesis we study two important phenomenological issues in the context of supersymmetric gauge theories. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) we analyze properties of the neutral Higgs boson decays into two neutralinos. In the second part of our work we study in detail the Proton decay in the Minimal Supersymmetric SU(5) Theory.
We investigate supersymmetric models in which an anomalous $U(1)_{X}$ symmetry explains the Yukawa hierarchy, and the related $D_{X}$-term plays a role in supersymmetry breaking. We use a bottom-up approach to model building. Phenomenological viability leads to a scenario with degenerate squark and slepton spectra and with heavy gauginos. Features of a Kähler potential that allows for such a scenario are described.
We review here our study of a supersymmetric left-right model (SLRM). In the model the $R$-parity is spontaneously broken. Phenomenologically novel feature of the model is the occurrance of the doubly charged particles in the Higgs sector, which are possibly light enough to be seen in the next linear collider. Detection of the doubly charged higgsinos in the next linear collider is discussed.
When the GUT relation on gaugino masses is relaxed, the mass and composition of the lightest neutralino are different from those in the GUT case. We discuss its phenomenological implications on the relic abundance of the neutralinos and on superparticle searches. In particular, we focus on the case where the neutral component of Winos dominates the lightest neutralino. It turns out the Wino-LSP is not a candidate for the dark matter.
We discuss some phenomenological aspects of gauged supersymmetric $\gs$--models on homogeneous coset-spaces $\ESO$ and $SO(10)/U(5)$ which are some of the most interesting for phenomenology. We investigate in detail the vacuum configurations of these models, and study the resulting consequences for supersymmetry breaking and breaking of the internal symmetry. Some supersymmetric minima for both models with gauged full isometry groups $E_6$ and SO(10) are physically problematic as the Kaehler metric becomes singular and hence the kinetic terms of the Goldstone boson multiplets vanish. This lead…
We discuss the possible applications supersymmetric theories might find in the field of elementary particle physics. The supersymmetric generalization of the $SU(3)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ standard model is discussed in detail. Special attention has been devoted to the question of gauge coupling constant unification in the framework of supersymmetric grand unified models.
There are few robust solutions to the doublet-triplet splitting problem in supersymmetric GUT theories. One of the more promising solutions is the Higgs as pseudo-Goldstone boson mechanism. In its minimal implementation, such a solution places an additional restriction on the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. A testable consequence of this constraint is an equation for $\tan β$. We present this restriction and study its solutions in order to constrain the allowed parameter space. Thus the assumptions on the GUT scale Higgs sector should yield testable predictions fo…
We construct a class of anomaly-free supersymmetric U(1)' models that are characterized by family non-universal U(1)' charges motivated from E_6 embeddings. The family non-universality arises from an interchange of the standard roles of the two SU(5) 5* representations within the 27 of E_6 for the third generation. We analyze U(1)' and electroweak symmetry breaking and present the particle mass spectrum. The models, which include additional Higgs multiplets and exotic quarks at the TeV scale, result in specific patterns of flavor-changing neutral currents in the b to s transitions that can acc…
We study previously introduced models of pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson Higgs from linearly realized minimal coset SO(5)/SO(4) and matter in the fundamental in supersymmetric theories. Partial compositeness is at work for top and electroweak gauge fields. New states potentially relevant for LHC signatures are identified and we show how to reinterpret existing experimental results as exclusion bounds. The lightest colored particles, with a mass below the TeV, are fermionic and scalars top partners. We outline a viable mechanism originating masses of other Standard Model quarks: they result from t…
We review the phenomenological aspects of the exact and approximate Radiation Amplitude Zeros (RAZ) and discuss the prospects of searches for these zeros at current and future collider experiments.
Saturation at low x appears as an almost unavoidable consequence of the two-gluon exchange generic structure. Consistency of the ansatz for the vector part of the color dipole cross section with conventional evolution determines the energy dependence of the saturation scale.
In realistic supersymmetric models, very small hard supersymmetry breaking terms generally appear. Some of them violate baryon and/or lepton number. We discuss their possible applications to proton decay and generation of neutrino masses.
Consequences of the alternative mechanism of spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry without formation of a large quark antiquark condensate is reviewed. Emphasis is put on the resulting picture of light quark masses.
The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM) provides a low energy alternative to the MSSM, with an extra gauged U(1)$_N$ symmetry, solving the $μ$-problem of the MSSM. Inspired by the possible embedding into an E$_6$ GUT, the matter content fills three generations of E$_6$ multiplets, thus predicting exciting exotic matter such as diquarks or leptoquarks. We present predictions from a constrained version of the model (cE$_6$SSM), with a universal scalar mass $m_0$, trilinear mass $A$ and gaugino mass $M_{1/2}$. We reveal a large volume of the cE$_6$SSM parameter space where the co…
We study phenomenological aspects of supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories with non-universal gaugino masses. For large tan beta, we investigate constraints from the requirement of successful electroweak symmetry breaking, the positivity of stau mass squared and the b to s gamma decay rate. In the allowed region, the nature of the lightest supersymmetric particle is determined. Examples of mass spectra are given. We also calculate loop corrections to the bottom mass due to superpartners.
We discuss how the experimental neutrino oscillation data can be realized in the framework of the baryon triality ($B_3$) constrained supersymmetric Standard Model (cSSM). We show how to obtain phenomenologically viable solutions, which are compatible with the recent WMAP observations. We present results for the hierarchical, inverted and degenerate cases which illustrate the possible size and structure of the lepton number violating couplings. We work with a new, as yet unpublished version of SOFTSUSY, where we implemented full one--loop neutrino masses. Finally, we shortly discuss some pheno…
Phenomenological analysis to the R-parity violating supersymmetry with a vector-like extra generation is performed in detail. It is found that, via the trilinear couplings, the correct neutrino spectrum can be obtained. The Higgs mass rises to 125 GeV by new up-type Yukawa couplings of vector-like quarks with no need of very heavy superpartners. Phenomena of new heavy fermions at LHC are predicted.
We present a through discussion of motivations for and phenomenological issues in supersymmetric models with minimal matter content and non-holomorphic soft-breaking terms. Using the unification of the gauge couplings and assuming SUSY is broken with non-standard soft terms, we provide semi-analytic solutions of the RGEs for low and high choices of tanβwhich can be used to study the phenomenology in detail. We also present a generic form of RGIs in mSUGRA framework which can be used to derive new relations in addition to those existing in the literature. Our results are mostly presented with r…
In the context of 331 models we analyze the phenomenology of exotic $T$ quarks with electric charge 2/3. We establish bounds for the corresponding masses and mixing angles and study the decay modes $T\to bW$, $tZ$ and $qH$. It is found that the decays into scalars are strongly dependent on the model parameters, and can be the dominant ones in a scenario with approximate flavor symmetry.
One CP--odd rephase-invariant phase appears in the chargino mass matrix in the minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We investigate in detail the phenomenological impacts of the CP-odd complex phase in the production of light charginos in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. The values of the chargino masses and the mixing angles, determining the size of the wino and higgsino components in the chargino wave functions, are so sensitive to the CP-odd phase that the constraints on the supersymmetric parameters based on the conventional assumptions for the parameters are recommended to be re-evaluated includin…
These lectures contain an introduction to supersymmetric theories and the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Phenomenological and cosmological consequences of supersymmetry are also discussed.
The $Z_3$-invariant next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) can provide a candidate for dark matter (DM). It can also be used to explain the hypothesis that the Higgs signal observed on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) comes from the contribution of the two lightest CP-even Higgs bosons, whose masses are near 125 GeV. At present, XENON1T, LUX, and PandaX experiments have imposed very strict restrictions on direct collision cross sections of {dark matter}. In this paper, we consider a scenario that the observed Higgs signal is the superposition of two mass-degenerate Higgs in the $…
The supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model can contain interactions violating the so-called R-parity symmetry. Such couplings would lead to the lepton and/or baryon number violation and modify deeply the phenomenology of supersymmetry at future particle colliders. We have worked out tests of the R-parity violating interactions. First, we have studied clear signals of the single production of supersymmetric partners of the Standard Model particles, which involves the R-parity violating interactions, in the context of physics at next leptonic and hadronic colliders. The results show that…
The phenomenological neutrino mass matrix for two-zero symmetric texture has been obtained and used to rule out all possible two-zero symmetric neutrino mass matrices obtained from Yukawa couplings to $\mathbf{10}$ and $\mathbf{126}$ Higgs representations within the framework of minimal supersymmetric SO(10).
We show that the decay gluino -> stop_1 b-quark W is important and can even be dominant in the region of parameter space where it is kinematically allowed. We discuss phenomenological implications within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and models with broken R-parity. We consider the flavour diagonal case as well as a possible mixing between squarks of different generations. In the latter case also the decay gluino -> stop_1 c-quark is potentially important. We show that the decay gluino -> stop_1 b-quark W is sensitive to the stop mixing angle. Furthermore we demonstrate that in sce…
Flavour symmetries in the dark sector are a theoretically motivated and phenomenologically appealing concept. The dark matter particle can be stabilised with the help of flavour symmetries, without the need to introduce an additional discrete symmetry by hand. Apart from the usual searches in direct and indirect detection experiments and high energy colliders, flavoured dark matter generally also gives rise to new flavour violating interactions leading to interesting signatures in rare meson decays. This proceedings article reviews a simplified model of flavoured dark matter in which the dark …
Most of the phenomenological studies of supersymmetry have been carried out using the so-called minimal supergravity scenario, where one assumes a universal scalar mass, gaugino mass, and trilinear coupling at M_{GUT}. Even though this is a useful simplifying assumption for phenomenological analyses, it is rather too restrictive to accommodate a large variety of phenomenological possibilities. It predicts, among other things, that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is an almost pure B-ino, and that the mu-parameter is larger than the masses of the SU(2)_{L} and U(1)_{Y} gauginos. We ex…
We discuss various phenomenological aspects of supersymmetric models beyond the MSSM. A particular focus is on models which can correctly explain neutrino data and the possiblities of LHC to identify the underlying scenario.
These lectures are a very brief introduction to low energy supersymmetry (SUSY). The approach to the construction of SUSY Lagrangians based on the superfield formalism is considered. The minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) is specified. The breakdown of gauge symmetry and Higgs phenomenology within the simplest SUSY extensions of the standard model (SM) are briefly reviewed. The upper bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson and little hierarchy problem in SUSY models are discussed.
The long awaited discovery of a new light scalar at the LHC opens up a new era of studies of the Higgs sector in the SM and its extensions. In this paper we discuss the consequences of the observation of a light Higgs boson with the mass and rates reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations on the parameter space of the phenomenological MSSM, including also the so far unsuccessful LHC searches for the heavier Higgs bosons and supersymmetric particle partners in missing transverse momentum as well as the constraints from B physics and dark matter. We explore the various regimes of the MSSM Hig…
We provide a study of the phenomenology of orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string within the context of supergravity effective theories. Our investigation focuses on those models where the soft Lagrangian is dominated by loop contributions to the various soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. We consider the pattern of masses that are governed by these soft terms and investigate the implications of certain indirect constraints on supersymmetric models, such as flavor-changing neutral currents, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the density of thermal relic neutralinos.
Recently Babu, Ma and Valle proposed a model of quark and lepton mixing based on $A_4$ symmetry. Within this model the lepton and slepton mixings are intimately related. We perform a numerical study in order to derive the slepton masses and mixings in agreement with present data from neutrino physics. We show that, starting from three-fold degeneracy of the neutrino masses at a high energy scale, a viable low energy neutrino mass matrix can indeed be obtained in agreement with constraints on lepton flavour violating $μ$ and $τ$ decays. The resulting slepton spectrum must necessarily include at…
We consider a plausible scenario in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) where all the genuine supersymmetric (SUSY) particles are heavier than the electroweak scale. In this situation, indirect searches via their radiative corrections to low energy observables are complementary to direct searches, and they can be crucial if the SUSY masses are at the TeV energy range. We summarize the most relevant heavy SUSY radiative effects in Higgs boson physics and emphasize those that manifest a non-decoupling behaviour. We focus, in particular, on the SUSY-QCD non-decoupling effects in ferm…
We analyze a direct-transmission model of dynamical SUSY breaking previously proposed. In the model the gravitino mass is naturally smaller than $1~\KEV$, which is required from the standard cosmology. We find that there are many distinguishable features from in other models: for example the so-called GUT relation among the gaugino masses does not hold even if we consider the GUT models. Furthermore, the gauginos are always lighter than the sfermions since the gaugino masses have extra suppression factors. We also discuss a collider signature ``$γγ+$ missing energy'' in the present model.
We study a Lorentz invariance violating extension for the pure photonic sector of the standard model in a supersymmetric scenario. We identify a number of independent background fermion condensates. An effective photonic action is proposed which is induced by the SUSY background fermion condensates. The physical consequences leading to direct measurable effects over the screening and confining properties are considered. In the specific case of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw, we pay special attention in analyzing the dispersion relations to derive the photon and photino masses in terms of the supersy…
We consider the minimal supersymmetric extension of the 3-3-1 model. We study the mass spectra of this model in the fermionic and gauge bosons sectors without the antisextet. We also present some phenomenological consequences of this model at colliders such as Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and International Linear Collider(ILC).
We study phenomenological aspects of supersymmetric SO(10) GUTs with sum rules among soft SUSY breaking parameters. In particular, the sum rule related to the stau mass leads to the constraints from the requirements of successful electroweak breaking and the positivity of stau mass squared. The bottom quark mass is also estimated.
The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is presented as a model for the CompHEP software package as a set of files containing the complete Lagrangian of the MSSM, particle contents and parameters. All resources of CompHEP with a user-friendly interface are now available for the phenomenological study of the MSSM. Various special features of the model are discussed.
We discuss in detail the symmetry breaking and related issues in the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric grand unified theory. We compute the particle spectrum and study its impact on the physical scales of the theory. This provides a framework for the analysis of phenomenological implications of the theory, to be carried out in part II.
We analyze the breakdown of SUSY GUTs driven by Nambu--Jona--Lasinio condensates. Starting with the most general gauge invariant and pure Kählerian Lagrangian up to quartic order we solve the one loop gap equation and determine the breaking direction. This is done for various classes of groups and spectra of fundamental particles which especially cover the most promising unifying groups $SU(5)$, $SO(10)$ and $E_6$. Heavy masses for the fundamental as well as for the composite particles are calculated. The results are used to single out candidates which may lead to an acceptable low energy theo…
The basics of a supersymmetric left-right model are reviewed. The production and subsequent decays of the doubly charged triplet higgsino $ \tildeΔ^{\pm\pm}$ in the Next Linear Collider are discussed. The slepton pair production in the framework of this model is also analysed.
We study the vacuum behavior of an extended Higgs sector with two doublets in a scenario with a softly broken \texorpdfstring{$U(1)$}{lg} global symmetry. The soft-violation term is introduced to avoid massless-axion particles arising when the global symmetry becomes spontaneously broken. This model has metastable states through the possible presence of multiple non-degenerate minima, which is unwanted from the phenomenological point of view if the metastable state is not long-lived enough. The analysis of this fact leads to find possible exclusion limits over parameter space of quartic coupli…
We propose a new non-universal $U(1)'$ extension of the standard model with the addition of three exotic quark singlets, two scalar singlets and one additional scalar doublet. We obtain family dependent couplings with a new $Z'$ boson in the quark sector and universal couplings with the lepton sector. From experimental data on $Z'$ research at CERN-LHC collider, we find limit regions in the $U(1)'$ free parameters ($Z'$ mass and coupling constant), which we use to obtain total decay width and invariant-mass distributions. By introducing discrete symmetries and mixing couplings between ordinary…
I concentrate on two topics. One is techniques to distinguish amongst various oscillation scenarios from atmospheric neutrino data; and the other is the Borexino solar neutrino detector and its capabilities.
Stabilizing a heterotic string vacuum with a large expectation value of the dilaton and simultaneously breaking low-energy supersymmetry is a long-standing problem of string phenomenology. We reconsider these issues in light of the recent developments in F-theory.
The minimal flavor violation hypothesis is presented in the context of the MSSM. Its fundamental principles are introduced and motivated, and its phenomenological consequences for FCNC and CP-violating observables as well as for R-parity violating processes are briefly described.
We propose a framework for the low-energy realization of supersymmetry which is very predictive, but differs radically in its phenomenological implications from the supersymmetric Standard Model (minimal or otherwise). The proposal consists of a supersymmetric version of the Large-Extra-Dimensions scenario, with the Standard Model living on a 3-brane, coupled to a bulk sector consisting of six-dimensional supergravity. This picture is motivated by a promising recent attempt (hep-th/0304256) to naturally understand the observed dark energy density, and this connection with dark energy prevents …
Some phenomenological aspects of a supersymmetric model for fermion mass hierarchy proposed previously are discussed. It is required that the lepton universality violation is near to its current experimental bound. The lepton number violation decay modes $τ\to 2eμ$ and $3μ$ maybe observable in the near future. The Majorana mass of electron-neutrino is predicted to be about 0.1 eV. The fine-tuning problem is discussed.
The phenomenological consequences of the dilaton-type soft supersymmetry breaking terms in the context of the next to minimal supersymmetric standard model are investigated. We always find a very low top quark mass. As a consequence such string vacua are excluded by recent experimental results. The viability of the solution of the $μ$ term through the introduction of a gauge singlet field is also briefly discussed.
We address the influence of quantum corrections to neutrino masses and mixings and discuss the possibilities to completely generate the flavor mixing irrespective of any tree-level flavor model. Furthermore, we describe a new class of vacua with a new minimum appearing in the standard Higgs direction. The results hint towards a charge and color breaking global minimum and therefore extend existing bounds at tree-level. Finally, we combine the discussion of vacuum stability in the MSSM with the right-handed neutrino extension. The supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism rescues the poten…
The generic supersymmetric standard model is a model built from a supersymmetrized standard model field spectrum the gauge symmetries only. The popular minimal supersymmetric standard model differs from the generic version in having R-parity imposed by hand. We review an efficient formulation of the model and some of the recently obtained interesting phenomenological features, focusing on one-loop contributions to fermion electric dipole moments.
We examine the phenomenological implications of light $\tilde{t}_R$ and higgsinos in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, assuming $\tan^2 β< m_t / m_b$ and heavy $\tilde{t}_L$ and gauginos. In this simplified setting, we study the contributions to $Δm_{B_d}$, $ε_K$, $BR(b \rightarrow s γ)$, $R_b \equiv Γ(Z \rightarrow b \overline{b}) / Γ( Z \to {\rm hadrons})$, $BR(t \to b W)$, and their interplay.
The generic supersymmetric version of the Standard Model would have the minimal list of superfields incorporating the Standard Model particles, and a Lagrangian dictated by the Standard Model gauge symmetries. To be phenomenologically viable, soft supersymmetry breaking terms have to be included. In the most popular version of the supersymmetric Standard Model, an {\it ad hoc} discrete symmetry, called R parity, is added in by hand. While there has been a lot of various kinds of R-parity violation studies in the literature, the complete version of supersymmetry without R parity is not popularl…
We provide a detailed study of the phenomenology of orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string within the context of supergravity effective theories. Our investigation focuses on those models where the soft Lagrangian is dominated by loop contributions to the various soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. Such models typically predict non-universal soft masses and are thus significantly different from minimal supergravity and other universal models. We consider the pattern of masses that are governed by these soft terms and investigate the implications of certain indirect constraints …
Supersymmetric standard models where the ultraviolet cut-off scale is only a few orders of magnitude higher than the electroweak scale are considered. Phenomenological consequences of this class of models are expected to be very different from, for example, the conventional supergravity scenario. We apply this idea to a model with an anomalous U(1) gauge group and construct a viable model in which some difficulties of the decoupling solution to the supersymmetric flavor problem are ameliorated.
We study the finite-temperature effective potential of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model in the full (mA, tan(beta)) parameter space. As for the features of the electroweak phase transition, we identify two possible sources of significant differences with respect to the Standard Model: a stop sector with little supersymmetry breaking makes the phase transition more strongly first-order, whereas a light CP-odd neutral boson weakens its first-order nature. After including the leading plasma effects, T=0 radiative corrections due to top and stop loops, and the most important experimental …
In the supersymmetric standard model there exist pure gravity contributions to the soft mass parameters which arise via the superconformal anomaly. We consider the low-energy phenomenology with a mass spectrum dominated by the anomaly-induced contributions. In a well-defined minimal model we calculate electroweak symmetry breaking parameters, scalar masses, and the full one-loop splitting of the degenerate Wino states. The most distinctive features are gaugino masses proportional to the corresponding gauge coupling beta-functions, the possibility of a Wino as the lightest supersymmetric partic…
In supersymmetric models with Dirac neutrinos, the lightest sneutrino can be an excellent thermal dark matter candidate when the soft sneutrino trilinear parameter is large. We focus on scenarios where the mass of the mixed sneutrino is of the order of GeV and sensitivity of dark matter direct detection is weak. We investigate phenomenological constraints on the model parameter space including the vacuum stability bound. We show that the allowed regions can be explored by measuring Higgs boson properties at future collider experiments.
