SPPC (Super Proton-Proton Collider) is a discovery machine that is designed for energy frontier research in two decades from now, as the second stage of the CEPC-SPPC project. The main objective is to carry out experiments at 125 TeV in center-of-mass energy in a two-ring collider of 100 km in circumference and 20 T in dipole field. This white paper about SPPC describes the machine related issues, including performance, design overview, design challenges, key technologies and their maturity and required R&D, staged options and upgrades, synergies with other facilities, and environmental impact…
For more than two decades the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider was the centerpiece of the world's high energy physics program. The collider was arguably one of the most complex research instruments ever to reach the operation stage and is widely recognized for numerous physics discoveries and for many technological breakthroughs. In this article we outline the historical background that led to the construction of the Tevatron Collider, the strategy applied to evolution of performance goals over the Tevatron's operational history, and briefly describe operations of each accelerator in the ch…
Besides continued work on the parameters of a 3-4 and 0.5 TeV CoM collider, many studies are now concentrating on a machine near 100 GeV that could be a factory for the s-channel production of Higgs particles. We mention the research on the various components in such muon colliders, starting from the proton accelerator needed to generate pions from a heavy-Z target and proceeding through the phase rotation and decay channel, muon cooling, acceleration, storage in a ring and the collider detector. We also mention theoretical and experimental R&D plans for the next several years that should lead…
This paper discusses recently proposed Higgs Energy LEptoN (HELEN) $e+e-$ linear collider based on advances in superconducting radio frequency technology. The collider offers cost and AC power savings, smaller footprint (relative to the ILC), and could be built at Fermilab with an interaction region within the site boundaries. After the initial physics run at 250 GeV, the collider could be upgraded either to higher luminosity or to higher (up to 500 GeV) energies.
The worldwide High Energy Physics community widely agrees that the next collider should be a Higgs factory. Acknowledging this priority, in 2021 CERN has launched the international Future Circular Collider (FCC) Feasibility Study (FS). The FCC Integrated Project foresees, in a first stage, a high-luminosity high-energy electron-positron collider, serving as Higgs, top and electroweak factory, and, in a second stage, an energy frontier hadron collider, with a centre-of-mass energy of at least 100 TeV. In this paper, we address a few key elements of the FCC-ee accelerator design, its performance…
The Future Circular Collider (FCC) study was launched as a world-wide international collaboration hosted by CERN. Its goal is to push the field to the next energy frontier beyond LHC, increasing by an order of magnitude the mass of particles that could be directly produced, and decreasing by an order of magnitude the subatomic distances to be studied. The FCC study covers two accelerators, namely, an energy-frontier hadron collider (FCC-hh) and a highest luminosity, high-energy lepton collider (FCC-ee). Both rings are hosted in the same 100 km tunnel infrastructure, replicating the CERN strate…
The purpose of this Introduction, presented at PHOTON2007, is to provide an overview of the basic principles, possible parameters, some technical aspects and the physics program of the photon collider and discuss its status within the ILC project.
This Snowmass 2021 contributed paper discusses a Higgs-Energy LEptoN (HELEN) $e^+e^-$ linear collider based on advances superconducting radio frequency technology. The proposed collider offers cost and AC power savings, smaller footprint (relative to the ILC), and could be built at Fermilab with an Interaction Region within the site boundaries. After the initial physics run at 250 GeV, the collider could be upgraded either to higher luminosity or to higher (up to 500 GeV) energies. If the ILC could not be realized in Japan in a timely fashion, the HELEN collider would be a viable option to bui…
This paper presents a first overview on how to obtain and maintain polarized beams in a muon-collider
In this paper we elaborate on the nature and challenges for the magnet systems of a muon collider as presently considered within the scope of the International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC). We outline the structure of the work proposed over the coming period of five years to study and demonstrate relevant magnet technology. The proposal, which is part of the overall work planned to establish feasibility of a muon collider, is in direct response to the recent recommendations received from the Laboratories Directors Group (LDG). The plan is to profit from joint activities, within the scope…
FCC-ee Status and Overview
本文概述了FCC-ee可行性研究进展、2023年中期审查结果及长期规划,为未来高能物理实验提供路线图。
Colliders are built on a foundation of superconducting magnet technology that provides strong dipole magnets to maintain the beam orbit and strong focusing magnets to enable the extraordinary luminosity required to probe physics at the energy frontier. The dipole magnet strength plays a critical role in dictating the energy reach of a collider, and the superconducting magnets are arguably the dominant cost driver for future collider facilities. As the community considers opportunities to explore new energy frontiers, the importance of advanced magnet technology - both in terms of magnet perfor…
High energy hadron colliders have been the tools for discovery at the highest mass scales of the energy frontier from the SppS, to the Tevatron and now the LHC. This report reviews future hadron collider projects from the high luminosity LHC upgrade to a 100 TeV hadron collider in a large tunnel, the underlying technology challenges and R&D directions and presents a series of recommendations for the future development of hadron collider research and technology.

High energy photon - photon collisions can be achieved by adding high average power short-pulse lasers to the Linear Collider, enabling an expanded physics program for the facility. The technology required to realize a photon linear collider continues to mature. Compton back-scattering technology is being developed around the world for low energy light source applications and high average power lasers are being developed for Inertial Confinement Fusion.
For almost a quarter of a century the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider was the centrepiece of the world's high-energy physics program, from the start of operation in December 1985 until it was overtaken by the LHC in 2011. The initial design luminosity of the Tevatron was 1030 cm-2 s-1; however, as a result of two decades of upgrades, the accelerator has been able to deliver 430-times higher luminosities to each of two high-luminosity experiments, Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) and D0. On the way to record high luminosities, many issues related to the electromagnetic beam-beam interact…
An overview is given on key physics, detector and accelerator aspects of the LHeC, including its further development, with emphasis to its role as the cleanest microscope of parton dynamics and a precision Higgs facility.
This paper is the second part of my overview on photon colliders given at the conference ``The photon: its first hundred years and the future'' (PHOTON2005 + PLC2005). The first paper describes the first 25 years of the history and evolution of photon colliders. The present paper considers the photon collider at the ILC: possible parameters, technical problems and present status.
The discovery of the Higgs boson (and still nothing else) have triggered appearance of many proposals of Higgs factories for precision measurement of the Higgs properties. Among them there are several projects of photon colliders (PC) without e+e- in addition to PLC based on e+e- linear colliders ILC and CLIC. In this paper, following a brief discussion of Higgs factories physics program I give an overview of photon colliders based on linear colliders ILC and CLIC, and of the recently proposed photon-collider Higgs factories with no e+e- collision option based on recirculation linacs in ring t…
In this White Paper for the Snowmass 2021 Process, we propose the establishment of a magnet Leading-Edge technology And Feasibility-directed Program (LEAF Program) to achieve readiness for a future collider decision on the timescale of the next decade. The LEAF Program would rely on, and be synergetic with, generic R&D efforts presently covered - in the US - by the Magnet Development Program (MDP), the Conductor Procurement and R&D (CPRD) Program and other activities in the Office of HEP supported by Early Career Awards (ECA) or Lab Directed R&D (LDRD) funds. Where possible, ties to synergetic…
For more than 30 years [1], gamma-gamma and gamma-electron photon colliders have been considered a natural addition to e+e- linear-collider projects. Following the recent discovery of the Higgs boson, the physics community has been actively considering various approaches to building a Higgs factory, a photon collider (with or without e+e-) being one of them. In this note, following a brief discuss of photon colliders based on ILC and CLIC, I give a critical overview of the recently proposed photon-collider Higgs factories with no e+e- collision option.
The scope of the proposal outlined in this white paper is the development and demonstration of the technology needed for next generation of Nb_3Sn accelerator magnets in the 12-14 T range. The main goal is to cut magnet cold-mass cost by a factor 2 or higher with respect to the Nb_3Sn magnets produced by the US Accelerator Upgrade Project (AUP) for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). This goal will be achieved by significant reduction of labor hours, higher operating point, and improved performance uniformity. A key factor will be automation that will be achieved through indust…
In this brief overview we will reflect on the process of the design of the linear collider (LC) final focus (FF) optics, and will also describe the theoretical and experimental efforts on design and practical realisation of a prototype of the LC FF optics implemented in the ATF2 facility at KEK, Japan, presently being commissioned and operated.
