We study the coalescence of two bound energy eigenstates embedded in the continuous spectrum of a real Hamiltonian $H[4]$ and the singular point produced by this coalescence. At the singular point, the two unnormalized Jost eigenfunctions are no longer linearly independent but coalesce to give rise to a bound state eigenfunction embedded in the continuum. Here we present complex resonance states (or Siegert states), that describe the tunneling decay of a trapped quantum particle, from an intuitive point of view which naturally leads to the easily applicable Siegert approximation method that can be used for analytical and numerical calculations of complex resonances of both the linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Our approach thus complements other treatments of the subject that mostly focus on methods based on continuation in the complex plane or on semiclassical approximations.
Using techniques of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, scattering properties of Hermitian Hamiltonians, which are related to non-Hermitian ones by similarity transformations, are studied. We have found that the scattering matrix of the Hermitian Hamiltonian coincides with the phase factor of the non-unitary scattering matrix of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. A semiclassical model supporting the destructive interference interpretation of zero-width resonances (ZWR) is extended to wavelengths inducing c_minus-type curve crossing situations in Na2 strong field dissociation. We have studied electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in diatomic cesium molecules in a vapor cell by using tunable diode lasers. We have observed a sub-natural Lambda-resonance in an absorption molecular band at different cesium vapor pressures. The width of the EIT resonance shows a linear dependence on cesium vapor pressure. Narrow Lambda-resonances in molecules can be used as frequency references for femtosecond laser frequency combs.
We theoretically study the width of the s-wave confinement-induced resonance (CIR) in quasi-one-dimensional atomic gases under tunable transversely anisotropic confinement. We find that the width of the CIR can be tuned by varying the transverse anisotropy. The change in the width of the CIR can manifest itself in the position of the discontinuity in the interaction energy density, which can be probed experimentally.

We revisit the basic properties of Fano-Feshbach resonances in two-body systems with van der Waals tail interactions, such as ultracold neutral atoms. Using a two-channel model and two different methods, we investigate the relationship between the width and shift of the resonances and their dependence on the low-energy parameters of the system. We express the resonant energies of the delta-shell potential in terms of the Lambert $W$ function, and we calculate their decay widths and decay constants. The ensuing numerical results strengthen the interpretation of such decay widths and constants as a way to quantify the coupling between a resonance and the continuum.
