This paper investigates a background charge one Skyrme field chirally coupled to light fermions on the 3-sphere. The Dirac equation for the system commutes with a generalised angular momentum or grand spin. It can be solved explicitly for a Skyrme configuration given by the hedgehog form. The energy spectrum and degeneracies are derived for all values of the grand spin. Solutions for non-zero grand spin are each characterised by a set of four polynomials. The paper also discusses the energy of the Dirac sea using zeta function regularization.
The index theorem implies that there are fermionic states localized on a soliton. Presence of these modes may significantly alter the pattern of interaction between the solitons. As a particular example we investigate the chiral magnetic Skyrmions coupled to spin-isospin fermions. It is shown that there are sequences of fermionic modes localized on the Skyrmions. We investigate the pattern of interaction between the soltions with localized modes and proved the existence of stable system of magnetic Skyrmions bounded by the strong attractive dipole interaction mediated by the chargeless fermion…
We study effects of backreaction of the fermionic modes localized by the baby Skyrmion in the (2+1)-dimensional Skyrme model. It is shown that there is a tower of fermionic modes of two different types, localized by the soliton, however there is only one fermionic level, which flows from positive to negative value as coupling increases. Considering the strong coupling regime we observe that the coupling of the bosonic field to the fermions may strongly deform the Skyrmion, in particular the regions of negative topological charge density appear.

We construct self-dual sectors for scalar field theories on a $(2N+2)$-dimensional Minkowski space-time with target space being the $2N+1$-dimensional sphere $S^{2N+1}$. The construction of such self-dual sectors is made possible by the introduction of an extra functional on the action that renders the static energy and the self-duality equations conformally invariant on the $(2N+1)$-dimensional spatial submanifold. The conformal and target space symmetries are used to build an ansatz that leads to an infinite number of exact self-dual solutions with arbitrary values of the topological charge.…
When quantum flavor Hall insulator phases of itinerant fermions are disordered by strong quantum fluctuations, the condensation of skyrmion textures of order parameter fields can lead to superconductivity. In this work, we address the mechanism of skyrmion condensation by considering the scattering between (2+1)-dimensional, Weyl fermions and hedgehog type tunneling configurations of order parameters that violate the skyrmion-number conservation law. We show the quantized, flavor Hall conductivity ($σ^f_{xy}$) controls the degeneracy of topologically protected, fermion zero-modes, localized on…
In a warped 6-dimensional world with an extra 2-dimensional surface of a sphere, we find a 4-dimensional fermion mass formula with a zero mode. The warp factor is given by $ϕ(θ,φ)=\sin{θ}\cos{φ}$, which is a solution to the 6-dimensional Einstein equation with the bulk cosmological constant $Λ$ and the energy-momentum tensor of the bulk matter fields.
In a warped 6D world with an extra 2-dimensional sphere, we propose an exactly solvable model for fermion masses with zero mode. The warp factor is given by $ϕ(θ,φ)=\sin{θ}\cos{φ}$, which is a solution to the 6D Einstein equation with the bulk cosmological constant $Λ$ and the energy-momentum tensor of the bulk matter fields. Our model provides another possibility of obtaining fermion zero mode, rather than traditional model based on Dirac's monopole.
We study the duality between theories of a fundamental scalar or fermion coupled to $U(N)$ Chern-Simons gauge theory at the level of the three-sphere partition function, or equivalently entanglement entropy across a circle. The duality relation between the sphere free energies of the large $N$ bosonic and fermionic conformal theories is sensitive to certain shifts in the Chern-Simons level already at order $N$. We first study a similar duality in a ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric Chern-Simons matter theory, where it can be checked exactly using localization. At large $N$, the free energies of supe…
We investigate the axial vortical effect in a uniformly rotating sphere subject to finite size. We use MIT boundary condition to limit the boundary of the sphere. For massless fermions inside the sphere, we obtain the exact axial vector current far from the boundary that matches the expression obtained in cylindrical coordinates in the literature. On the spherical boundary, we find both the longitudinal and transverse(with respect to the rotation axis) components with magnitude depending on the colatitude angle. For massive fermions, we derive an expansion of the axial conductivity far from th…
We introduce a Skyrme type model with the target space being the 3-sphere S^3 and with an action possessing, as usual, quadratic and quartic terms in field derivatives. The novel character of the model is that the strength of the couplings of those two terms are allowed to depend upon the space-time coordinates. The model should therefore be interpreted as an effective theory, such that those couplings correspond in fact to low energy expectation values of fields belonging to a more fundamental theory at high energies. The theory possesses a self-dual sector that saturates the Bogomolny bound …
We calculate thermal corrections to Rényi entropies for free massless fermions on a sphere. More specifically, we take a free fermion on $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$ and calculate the leading thermal correction to the Rényi entropies for a cap like region with opening angle $2θ$. By expanding the density matrix in a Boltzmann sum, the problem of finding the Rényi entropies can be mapped to the problem of calculating a two point function on an $n$ sheeted cover of the sphere. We follow previous work for conformal field theories to map the problem on the sphere to a conical region in Eucli…
For a particle that is constrained on an ($N-1$)-dimensional ($N\geq2$) curved surface, the Cartesian components of its momentum in $N$-dimensional flat space is believed to offer a proper form of momentum for the particle on the surface, which is called the geometric momentum as it depends on the mean curvature. Once the momentum is made general covariance, the spin connection part can be interpreted as a gauge potential. The present study consists in two parts, the first is a discussion of the general framework for the general covariant geometric momentum. The second is devoted to a study of…
