An approach to calculate microscopic optical potential (OP) with the real part obtained by a folding procedure and with the imaginary part inherent in the high-energy approximation (HEA) is applied to study the $^8$He+p elastic scattering data at energies of tens of MeV/nucleon (MeV/N). The neutron and proton density distributions obtained in different models for $^{8}$He are utilized in the calculations of the differential cross sections. The role of the spin-orbit potential is studied. Comparison of the calculations with the available experimental data on the elastic scattering differential cross sections at beam energies of 15.7, 26.25, 32, 66 and 73 MeV/N is performed. The problem of the ambiguities of the depths of each component of the optical potential is considered by means of the imposed physical criterion related to the known behavior of the volume integrals as functions of the incident energy. It is shown also that the role of the surface absorption is rather important, in particular for the lowest incident energies (e.g., 15.7 and 26.25 MeV/nucleon).
A microscopic optical potential (OP) is derived from NN chiral potentials at the first-order term within the spectator expansion of the multiple scattering theory and adopting the impulse approximation. The performances of our OP are compared with those of a phenomenological OP in the description of elastic proton scattering data on different isotopic chains. An analogous scheme is adopted to construct a microscopic OP for elastic antiproton-nucleus scattering. The results of our OPs are in reasonably good agreement with the experimental data, for both elastic proton and antiproton-nucleus sca…
We construct a microscopic optical potential including breakup effects for elastic scattering of weakly-binding projectiles within the Glauber model, in which a nucleon-nucleus potential is derived by the $g$-matrix folding model. The derived microscopic optical potential is referred to as the eikonal potential. For $d$ scattering, the calculation with the eikonal potential reasonably reproduces the result with an exact calculation estimated by the continuum-discretized coupled-channels method. As the properties of the eikonal potential, the inaccuracy of the eikonal approximation used in the …
We employ a microscopic continuum-discretized coupled-channels reaction framework (MCDCC) to study the elastic angular distribution of the $^7$Li$=α+t$ nucleus colliding with $^{12}$C and $^{28}$Si targets at $E_{\text{Lab}}$=350 MeV. In this framework, the $^7$Li projectile is described in a microscopic cluster model and impinges on non-composite targets. The diagonal and coupling potentials are constructed from nucleon-target interactions and $^7$Li microscopic wave functions. We obtain a fair description of the experimental data, in the whole angular range studied, when continuum channels a…
Within the framework of the improved quantum molecular dynamics model, the medium modifications on the free nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections are investigated. By using various in-medium nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections in the model, the nucleon-induced reactions on various targets are simulated, and the excitation functions of reaction cross sections in the energy range from 25 MeV to 1 GeV are calculated. By comparing the calculations with the experimental data, an isospin, density, and momentum-dependence medium correction factor on free nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections is …
Elastic scattering observables (differential cross section and analyzing power) are calculated for the reaction $^6$He(p,p)$^6$He at projectile energies starting at 71 MeV/nucleon. The optical potential needed to describe the reaction is based on a microscopic Watson first-order folding potential, which explicitly takes into account that the two neutrons outside the $^4$He-core occupy an open p-shell. The folding of the single-particle harmonic oscillator density matrix with the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix leads for this case to new terms not present in traditional folding optical potentials for …
The relationship between the backward elastic scattering probabilities and reaction cross sections is derived. This is a a very simple and useful method to extract reaction cross sections for heavy ion systems. We compare the results of our method with those using the traditional full elastic scattering angular distributions, for several systems, at energies near and above the Coulomb barrier. From the calculated reaction and capture cross sections using the present method, we derive the cross sections of other mechanisms for nearly spherical systems.
In the paper, the results of analysis of elastic scattering and breakup processes in interactions of the $^{11}$Li nucleus with protons are presented. The hybrid model of the microscopic optical potential (OP) is applied. This OP includes the single-folding real part, while its imaginary part is derived within the high-energy approximation (HEA) theory. For the $^{11}$Li$+p$ elastic scattering, the microscopic large-scale shell model (LSSM) density of $^{11}$Li is used. The depths of the real and imaginary parts of OP are fitted to the elastic scattering data at 62, 68.4, and 75 MeV/nucleon, b…
We present updated predictions of effective elastic nucleon-nucleon cross sections intended for use in nucleus-nucleus reactions. A novel characteristic of the present approach combines all microscopic medium effects included in the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock G-matrix with a Pauli blocking mechanism which is more appropriate for applications in ion-ion reaction models as compared to a previous approach. The effective in-medium cross section is found to be quite sensitive to the description of Pauli blocking in the final configurations.
The direct measurement of the reaction or capture (fusion) cross section is a difficult task since it would require the measurement of individual cross sections of many reaction channels, and most of them could be reached only by specific experiments. This would require different experimental set-ups not always available at the same laboratory and, consequently, such direct measurements would demand a large amount of beam time and would take probably some years to be reached. Because of that, the measurements of elastic scattering angular distributions that cover full angular ranges and optica…
The $^6$He+$^{12}$C elastic scattering data at beam energies of 3, 38.3 and 41.6 MeV/nucleon are studied utilizing the microscopic optical potentials obtained by a double-folding procedure and also by using those inherent in the high-energy approximation. The calculated optical potentials are based on the neutron and proton density distributions of colliding nuclei established in an appropriate model for $^6$He and obtained from the electron scattering form factors for $^{12}$C. The depths of the real and imaginary parts of the microscopic optical potentials are considered as fitting parameter…
The effects of relativistic kinematics are studied for nuclear collisions of equal mass nuclei. It is found that the relativistic and non-relativistic elastic scattering amplitudes are nearly indistinguishable, and, hence, the relativistic and non-relativistic differential cross sections become indistinguishable. These results are explained by analyzing the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with the first order optical potential that was employed in the calculation
Comparison of optical model results from a microscopic Schrödinger approach to nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering with those from a global Dirac phenomenology
Background: Microscopic description of the projectile, based on an effective NN interaction, in a microscopic CDCC (MCDCC) model [PRL 111, 082701 (2013)] has been successfully applied to the 7Li+208Pb scattering. Purpose: The MCDCC method is applied to the low energy elastic scattering of 17F, 17O and 19F on 58Ni and 208Pb targets. The goal of the calculations is twofold - to test the adequacy and the accuracy of the MCDCC model for the heavier projectiles, and to study the contribution of various channels to the elastic scattering cross sections. Methods: The elastic scattering cross sections…
The $α$ inelastic scattering on $^{16}$O is investigated with the coupled-channel calculation using the $α$-nucleus coupled-channel potentials, which are microscopically derived by folding the the Melbourne $g$-matrix $NN$ interaction with the $^{16}$O and $α$ densities. The matter and transition densities of $^{16}$O are calculated by a microscopic structure model of the variation after the spin-parity projections combined with the generator coordinate method of $^{12}$C+$α$ in the framework of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The calculation reproduces the observed elastic and inelast…
The breakup cross sections in the reaction $^6$He+$^{12}$C are calculated at about 40 MeV/nucleon using the high-energy approximation (HEA) and with the help of microscopic optical potentials (OP) of interaction with the target nucleus $^{12}$C of the projectile nucleus fragments $^4$He and 2n. Considering the di-neutron $h$=2n as a single particle the relative motion $hα$ wave function is estimated so that to explain both the separation energy of $h$ in $^6$He and the rms radius of the latter. The stripping and absorbtion total cross sections are calculated and their sum is compared with the …
The deuteron-proton elastic scattering is studied in the multiple scattering expansion formalism. The contributions of the one-nucleon-exchange, single- and double scattering are taken into account. The Love and Franey parameterization of the nucleon-nucleon $t$-matrix is used, that gives an opportunity to include the off-energy-shell effects into calculations. Differential cross sections are considered at four energies, $T_d=390, 500, 880, 1200$ MeV. The obtained results are compared with the experimental data.
We calculate the differential cross sections for proton elastic scattering on the exotic halo nuclei $^6$He and $^8$He at energies around $\sim$0.7 GeV at the momentum transfers squared up to 0.30 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ and investigate the influence of the nucleon centre-of-mass correlations on the calculated cross sections. In particular, we show that the approximate account of the centre-of-mass correlations used previously considerably overestimates the cross sections at high values of the momentum transfer.
We present the analytical expressions for the differential cross sections and independent partial amplitudes for elastic scattering of nuclear particles for channels with a spin value of 1/2, 1, 3/2, 2 and 5/2. The independent partial amplitudes are presented for arbitrary orbital angular momentum $l$ and taking into account spin-orbit splitting. The analytical expressions allow one to carry out full phase shift analyses using experimental data for differential cross sections for processes with channel spins 1/2, 1, 3/2, 2 and 5/2.
Extended Optical Model Analyses of Elastic Scattering, Direct Reaction, and Fusion Cross Sections for the 9Be + 208Pb System at Near-Coulomb-Barrier Energies
Elastic scattering is a very important process to understand nuclear interactions in finite nuclei. Despite decades of efforts, the goal of reaching a coherent description of this physical process in terms of microscopic forces is still far from being completed. In previous papers (Phys. Rev. C93, 034619 (2016), Phys. Rev. C96, 044001 (2017)) we derived a nonrelativistic theoretical optical potential from nucleon-nucleon chiral potentials at fourth (N3LO) and fifth order (N4LO). We checked convergence patterns and established theoretical error bands. With this work we study the performances of…
$α$ elastic and inelastic scattering on $^{12}$C is investigated with the coupled-channel calculation using microscopic $α$-$^{12}$C potentials, which are derived by folding the Melbourne $g$-matrix $NN$ interaction with the matter and transition densities of $^{12}$C. These densities are obtained by a microscopic structure model of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics combined with and without the $3α$ generator coordinate method. The calculation reproduces satisfactorily well the observed elastic and inelastic cross sections at incident energies of $E_α=130$~MeV, 172.5~MeV, 240~MeV, and 38…
In order to clear up the sensitivity of the nucleus-nucleus scattering to the nuclear matter distributions of exotic halo nuclei, we have calculated differential cross sections for elastic scattering of the $^6$He and $^{11}$Li nuclei on several nuclear targets at the energy of 0.8 GeV/nucleon with different assumed nuclear density distributions in $^6$He and $^{11}$Li.
Flux-averaged and flux-integrated cross sections for quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current scattering on nucleus are analyzed. It is shown that the flux-integrated differential cross sections are nuclear model-independent. We calculate these cross sections using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation and relativistic Fermi gas model with the Booster Neutrino Beamline flux and compare results with the recent MiniBooNE experiment data. Within these models an axial mass $M_A$ is extracted from a fit of the measured $dσ/dQ^2$ cross section. The extracted value of $M_A$ is consisten…
We present calculations of deuteron elastic and inelastic breakup cross sections and angular distributions at deuteron energies below 100 MeV obtained using the post-form DWBA approximation. The elastic breakup cross section was extensively studied in the past. Very few calculations of inelastic breakup have been performed, however. We also analyze the angular momentum - energy distributions of the cross section for formation of the compound nucleus after inelastic breakup.
Simultaneous Optical Model Analyses of Elastic Scattering, Breakup, and Fusion Cross Section Data for the $^{6}$He + $^{209}$Bi System at Near-Coulomb-Barrier Energies
We revisit the Glauber model to study the heavy ion reaction cross sections and elastic scattering angular distributions at low and intermediate energies. The Glauber model takes nucleon-nucleon cross sections and nuclear densities as inputs and has no free parameter and thus can predict the cross sections for unknown systems. The Glauber model works at low energies down to Coulomb barrier with very simple modifications. We present new parametrization of measured total cross sections as well as ratio of real to imaginary parts of the scattering amplitudes for pp and np collisions as a function…
We update our recent analysis of pbar-d scattering, performed within the Glauber theory including the single- and double pbar-N scattering mechanisms. Specifically, now we consider also Nbar-N amplitudes from a new partial-wave analysis of pbar-p scattering data. Predictions for differential cross sections and the spin observables A_y^d, A_y^pbar, A_xx, A_yy are presented for antiproton beam energies between 50 and 300 MeV. Total polarized cross sections are calculated utilizing the optical theorem. The efficiency of the polarization buildup for antiprotons in a storage ring is investigated.
Angular distributions of elastic $^{140}$Ce($α$,$α$)$^{140}$Ce scattering are analyzed in the framework of the optical model from low energies around the Coulomb barrier up to about 40\,MeV. From the local fits the total reaction cross section $σ_{\rm{reac}}$ is extracted. This procedure requires experimental scattering data with small uncertainties. The results for $σ_{\rm{reac}}$ are compared to predictions of different systematic global potentials. It is found that the total reaction cross section $σ_{\rm{reac}}$ is well predicted from all global potentials under study although the reproduc…
We analyze $^{16}$O-$^{16}$O and $^{12}$C-$^{12}$C scattering with the microscopic coupled-channels method and investigate the coupled-channels and three-nucleon-force (3NF) effects on elastic and inelastic cross sections. In the microscopic coupled-channels calculation, the Melbourne g-matrix interaction modified according to the chiral 3NF effects is used. It is found that the coupled-channels and 3NF effects additively change both the elastic and inelastic cross sections. As a result, the coupled-channels calculation including the 3NF effects significantly improves the agreement between the…
The density distributions of $^{10}$Be and $^{11}$Be nuclei obtained within the quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) model and the generator coordinate method (GCM) are used to calculate the microscopic optical potentials (OPs) and cross sections of elastic scattering of these nuclei on protons and $^{12}$C at energies $E<100$ MeV/nucleon. The real part of the OP is calculated using the folding model with the exchange terms included, while the imaginary part of the OP that reproduces the phase of scattering is obtained in the high-energy approximation (HEA). In this hybrid model of OP the free parameters…
We study reactions between neutron-rich $^{132}$Sn nucleus and $^{96}$Zr within a dynamic microscopic theory at energies in the vicinity of the ion-ion potential barrier peak, and we compare the properties to those of the stable system $^{124}$Sn+$^{96}$Zr. The calculations are carried out on a three-dimensional lattice using the density-constrained Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock method. In particular, we calculate the dynamic excitation energy $E^*(t)$ and the quadrupole moment of the dinuclear system, $Q_{20}(t)$, during the initial stages of the heavy-ion collision. Capture cross sections for …
In this paper, we provide a procedure to calculate the bremsstrahlung spectrum for virtually any relativistic bare ion with charge 6$e$ or beyond, $Z\ge 6$, in ultraperipheral collisions with target nuclei. We apply the Weizsäcker-Williams method of virtual quanta to model the effect of the distribution of nuclear constituents on the interaction of the ion with the radiation target. This leads to a bremsstrahlung spectrum peaking at $2γ$ times the energy of the giant dipole resonance ($γ$ is the projectile energy in units of its rest energy). A central ingredient in the calculation is the cros…
Comparative assessment of the total breakup proton-emission cross sections measured for 56 MeV deuteron interaction with target nuclei from $^{12}$C to $^{209}$Bi, with an empirical parametrization and recently calculated microscopic neutron-removal cross sections has been done at the same time with similar data measured at 15, 25.5, 70, and 80 MeV. Comparable mass dependances of the elastic-breakup (EB) cross sections provided by the empirical parametrization and the microscopic results have been also found at the deuteron energy of 56 MeV, while the assessment of absolute-values variance up …
By considering three different Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) elastic differential cross sections: the Cugnon \emph{et al.} parameterized differential cross section [Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res., Sect. \textbf{B111}, 215 (1996)], and the differential cross section derived from the collision term of the self-consistent relativistic Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation proposed by Mao \emph{et al.} [Z.\ Phys.\ A {\bf 347}, 173 (1994)], as well as the isotropic differential cross section, within the newly updated version of the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, the influence …
We study heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies near the Coulomb barrier, in particular with neutron-rich radioactive ion beams. Dynamic microscopic calculations are carried out on a three-dimensional lattice using the Density-Constrained Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock (DC-TDHF) method. New results are presented for the $^{132}$Sn+$^{40}$Ca system which are compared to $^{132}$Sn+$^{48}$Ca studied earlier. Our theoretical fusion cross-sections agree surprisingly well with recent data measured at HRIBF. We also study the near- and sub-barrier fusion of $^{24,16}$O on $^{12}$C which is important to…
The total reaction cross section is related to the elastic scattering angular distribution by a basic quantum-mechanical relation. We present new experimental data for alpha-induced reaction cross sections on 64Zn which allow for the first time the experimental verification of this simple relation at low energies by comparison of the new experimental reaction data to the result obtained from 64Zn(alpha,alpha)64Zn elastic scattering.
Recently measured fusion cross-sections for the neutron-rich system 20O+12C are compared to dynamic, microscopic calculations using time-dependent density functional theory. The calculations are carried out on a three-dimensional lattice and performed both with and without a constraint on the density. The method has no adjustable parameters, and its only input is the Skyrme effective NN interaction. While the microscopic DC-TDHF calculations lie closer to the experimental data than standard fusion systematics they underpredict the experimental data significantly.
Based on the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model and the scaling model according to nucleon effective mass, effects of elastic and inelastic NN scattering cross sections on pion-/pion+ in the neutron-rich reaction of Ca48+Ca48 at a beam energy of 400 MeV/nucleon are studied. It is found that cross-section effects of both NN elastic and inelastic scatterings affect Delta_1232, pion- and pion+ production, as well as the value of pion-/pion+.
Flux-integrated semi-exclusive differential and integral cross sections for quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current scattering on argon are analyzed. We calculate these cross sections using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation and compare with recent MicroBooNE data. We found that the measured cross sections can be described well within the experimental uncertainties with value of the nucleon axial mass $1 < M_A < 1.2$ GeV. The contribution of the exclusive channel $\boldmath{(ν_μ, μp)}$ to the flux-integrated inclusive cross sections is about 50\%.
Elastic scattering data for $^{141}$Pr($α$,$α$)$^{141}$Pr have been analyzed to derive a new energy-dependent local potential for the $^{141}$Pr-$α$ system. This potential is used successfully to predict the cross section of the $^{141}$Pr($α$,n)$^{144}$Pm reaction at low energies where new experimental data have become available very recently. Contrary to various global potentials, this new potential is able to reproduce simultaneously elastic scattering data around and above the Coulomb barrier and reaction data below the Coulomb barrier for the $^{141}$Pr-$α$ system. Reasons for the partial…
We test the validity of the black disk limit in elastic scattering by studying the evolution of the dip in the scaling variable $τ=-t_{D}σ^{tot}$, where $t_{D}$ is the transverse momentum squared at the dip and $σ_{tot}$ the total cross section. As $s\rightarrow \infty $ and $-t_{D} \rightarrow 0 $, $τ$ may consistently be approaching the black disc value, $τ\xrightarrow[ \sqrt{s}\rightarrow \infty ]{} τ_{BD}=35.92$ GeV$^{2}$ mb.
The neutron capture cross sections have been studied near the $Z=50$ closed shell for a number of nuclei those take part in heavy element nucleosynthesis, the slow and the rapid neutron capture processes and the proton capture process. An optical model potential is constructed in theoretical approach by folding the density dependent M3y purely real nucleon-nucleon interaction with the target radial matter density in relativistic mean field (RMF) approach. The standard code TALYS1.8 is used for cross-section calculation. We have presented the Maxwellian-averaged capture cross-section (MACS) val…
