We examine the prospect to measure the Higgs boson mass using the recently introduced kinematic variable, the M_T2-Assisted On-Shell (MAOS) momentum, that provides a systematic approximation to the invisible neutrino momenta in dileptonic decays of W-boson pair. For this purpose, we introduce a modified version of the MAOS momentum, that is applicable even when one or both of the W-bosons from the Higgs decay are in off-shell. It is demonstrated that the MAOS Higgs mass distribution, constructed with the MAOS neutrino momenta, shows a clear peak at the true Higgs boson mass when an event cut selecting higher value of M_T2 is employed. We perform the likelihood analysis for this MAOS mass distribution to determine the Higgs boson mass, and find it can improve the accuracy of the Higgs mass measurement. Our results indicate that the MAOS Higgs mass can be useful also for the discovery or exclusion of the Higgs boson in certain mass range.
It is expected that hadron collider measurements of the Higgs boson mass using the decay h -> W^+W^-, followed by the leptonic decay of each W-boson, will be performed by fitting the shape of a distribution which is sensitive to the Higgs mass. We demonstrate that the variable most commonly used to measure the Higgs mass in this channel is not optimal as it contains an unnecessary and even counter-productive approximation. We remove that approximation, without introducing any cost in complexity, and demonstrate that the new variable is a clear improvement over the old: its performance is never…
Little Higgs models are often endowed with a T-parity in order to satisfy electroweak precision tests and give at the same time a stable particle which is a candidate for cold dark matter. This type of models predicts a set of new T-odd fermions in addition to the heavy gauge bosons of the Little Higgs models, which may show interesting signatures at colliders. In this paper, we study the signatures of strong and electroweak pair production of the first two generations of T-odd quarks at the LHC. We focus on the dileptonic signatures (p p to l l j j MET) with (a) opposite-sign dileptons and (b…
Constraining the Higgs boson properties is a cornerstone of the LHC program and future colliders. In this Snowmass contribution, we study the potential to directly probe the Higgs-top CP-structure via the $t\bar{t}h$ production at the HL-LHC, 100 TeV FCC and muon colliders. We find the limits on the CP phase ($α$) at 95% CL are $|α| \lesssim 36^\circ$ with dileptonic $t\bar t (h\to b\bar b) $ and $|α| \lesssim 25^\circ$ with combined $t\bar t (h\to γγ) $ at the HL-LHC. The 100 TeV FCC brings a significant improvement in sensitivity with $|α| \lesssim 3^\circ$ for the dileptonic $t\bar t (h\to …
High precision measurements at the linear collider will allow a model- independent reconstruction of nature at high energy scales. The method of bottom-up extrapolation from the electroweak scale to the GUT scale is explained and both a universal minimal supergravity and a gaugino-mediated model are presented as examples. Comparisons are made with the LHC-only case.
A method to reconstruct sleptons in cascade-decays at the FLC is presented. It is shown that experimental mass-resolutions as low as 8.7 MeV/c^2 are attainable.
We extend the minimal supersymmetric standard model with bilinear R-parity violation to include a pair of Higgs triplet superfields. The neutral components of the Higgs triplets develop small vacuum expectation values (VEVs) quadratic in the bilinear R-parity breaking parameters. In this scheme the atmospheric neutrino mass scale arises from bilinear R-parity breaking while for reasonable values of parameters the solar neutrino mass scale is generated from the small Higgs triplet VEVs. We calculate neutrino masses and mixing angles in this model and show how the model can be tested at future c…
We present an improved method of reconstructing New Physics (NP) masses from invariant mass endpoints. While the traditional method focuses on a single NP decay, our method considers the decays of two or more NP particles ($ABC...$) in a grander decay chain: $ anything \to ABC... \to ... \to jets + leptons$. Though the center-of-mass energy $E_{CM}$ of `anything' varies unpredictably at a hadron collider, a sample of many events nonetheless expresses features of threshold production $E_{CM} = m_A + m_B + ...$: invariant masses constructed from the final jet and lepton momenta are correlated in…
Mass variable \sqrt{\hat{S}_{min}} and its variants were constructed by minimising the parton level center of mass energy that is consistent with all inclusive measurements. They were proposed to have the ability to measure mass scale of new physics in a fully model independent way. In this work we relax the criteria by assuming the availability of partial informations of new physics events and thus constraining this mass variable even further. Starting with two different classes of production topology, i.e. antler and non-antler, we demonstrate the usefulness of these variables to constrain t…
It has been known that, in the focus point scenario of supersymmetry, the thermal relic of the lightest superparticle (LSP) is known to be a good candidate of the cold dark matter. Assuming that the LSP in the focus-point scenario be the cold dark matter, we address a question how and how well the relic density of the LSP can be determined once the superparticles are found at future e^+e^- linear collider. We will see that the determinations of the mass of the LSP as well as those of the Higgsino-like chargino and neutralinos, which will be possible by a study of the decay kinematics of the ch…
We show that new physics can show up in dileptonic events through its radiative contributions to the dilepton invariant mass, leading to unique "monocline" features in $m_{\ell\ell}$, as well as the angular distribution of the leptons. We focus in particular on the case of dark matter with scalar messengers coupling it to the quarks and leptons. Consistent thermal models require the dark matter to have masses of 100's GeV and have $\gsim 1$ couplings to the Standard Model (SM), implying that radiative corrections to the SM Drell-Yan rate can be sizeable. We consider the case of Majorana, Dirac…
In most supersymmetric theories charginos, $\tildeχ^\pm_{1,2}$, belong to the class of the lightest supersymmetric particles. The chargino system can be reconstructed completely in $e^+e^-$ collider experiments: $e^+e^-\to\tildeχ_i^+ \tildeχ_j^- [i,j=1,2]$. By measuring the total cross sections and the asymmetries with polarized beams, the chargino masses and the gaugino-higgsino mixing angles of these states can be determined accurately. If only the lightest charginos $\tildeχ_1^\pm$ are kinematically accessible in a first phase of the machine, transverse beam polarization or the measurement …
We investigate the method for constructing the invariant mass using the M_T2-assisted on-shell (MAOS) approximation to the invisible particle momenta in the cascade decays of a new particle resonance produced at hadron colliders. We note that the MAOS reconstruction can be defined in several different ways, while keeping the efficiency of approximation at a similar level, and one of them provides a unique solution for each event. It is shown that the invariant mass distribution constructed with the MAOS momenta exhibits a peak at the heavy resonance mass, regardless of the chosen MAOS scheme a…
In Higgsless models, new vector resonances appear to restore the unitarity of the W_L W_L scattering amplitude without the Higgs boson. In the ideal delocalized three site Higgsless model, one of large prodcution cross section of the neutral vector resonance (Z') at the Large Hadron Collider is the W-associated production, pp \to Z'W \to WWW. Although the dileptonic decay channnel, lνl'ν'jj, is experimentally clean to search for the Z' signals, it is difficult to reconstruct the Z' invariant mass due to the two neutrinos in the final state. We study collider signatures of Z' using the M_{T2}-A…
A study of single top quark production via flavor changing neutral current interactions at $tqγ$ vertices is performed at future circular hadron electron collider. The signal cross sections for the processes $e^{-}p\to e^{-}W^{\pm}q+X$ and $e^{-}p\to e^{-}W^{\pm}bq+X$ in the collision of electron beam with energy $E_e=$ 60 GeV and proton beam with energy $E_p=$ 50 TeV are calculated. In the analysis, the invariant mass distributions of three jets reconstructing top quark mass, requiring one b-tagged jet and other two jets reconstructing the $W$ mass are used to count signal and background even…
We report on the extrapolation of scalar mass parameters in the lepton sector to reconstruct SO(10) scenarios close to the unification scale. The method is demonstrated for an example in which SO(10) is broken directly to the Standard Model, based on the expected precision from coherent LHC and ILC collider analyses. In addition to the fundamental scalar mass parameters at the unification scale, the mass of the heaviest right-handed neutrino can be estimated in the seesaw scenario.
In the context of high-energy physics, a reliable description of the parton-level kinematics plays a crucial role for understanding the internal structure of hadrons and improving the precision of the calculations. Here, we study the production of one hadron and a direct photon, including up to Next-to-Leading Order Quantum Chromodynamics and Leading-Order Quantum Electrodynamics corrections. Using a code based on Monte-Carlo integration, we simulate the collisions and analyze the events to determine the correlations among measurable and partonic quantities. Then, we use these results to feed …
We consider the problem of reconstructing energies, momenta, and masses in collider events with missing energy, along with the complications introduced by combinatorial ambiguities and measurement errors. Typically, one reconstructs more than one value and we show how the wrong values may be correlated with the right ones. The problem has a natural formulation in terms of the theory of Riemann surfaces. We discuss examples including top quark decays in the Standard Model (relevant for top quark mass measurements and tests of spin correlation), cascade decays in models of new physics containing…
We discuss the prospects of studying lepton number violating processes in order to identify Majorana neutrinos from low scale seesaw mechanisms at lepton-proton colliders. In particular, we consider the scenarios of colliding electrons with LHC energy protons and, motivated by the efforts towards the construction of a muon collider, the prospects of muon-proton collisions. We find that present constraints on the mixing of the Majorana neutrinos still allow for a detectable signal at these kind of facilities given the smallness of the Standard Model background. We discuss possible cuts in order…
We study the discovery and discriminating prospects of the Higgs portal dark matter (DM) models for scalar, fermion and vector DM and their extensions in proton-proton ($pp$) collisions. The $t\bar{t}+$DM associated production in dileptonic final states is considered, in which the stransverse mass of two leptons is found to be effective in suppressing the Standard Model backgrounds along with the missing transverse energy and the angle between two leptons. The distributions of missing transverse energy and polar angle between two leptons are used for a discrimination of the spin nature of DM. …
We compare our proposal for an additional heavy Standard Model Higgs boson to the available full data set collected by the CMS detector during Run 2 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$. The CMS Collaboration performed a search for a high mass Higgs boson decaying into a pair of W bosons in the dileptonic channel. Our analysis of the CMS data indicated the presence of a broad excess in the mass range 600 GeV - 800 GeV with respect to the expected Standard Model background with a rather significative statistical significance. We found tha…
Production of the Standard Model Higgs-boson at the Photon Collider at TESLA is studied for the Higgs-boson masses above 150 GeV. Simulation of signal and background processes takes into account realistic luminosity spectra and detector effects. In the considered mass range, large interference effects are expected in the W+W- decay channel. By reconstructing W+W- and ZZ final states, not only the h->gamma gamma partial width can be measured, but also the relative phase of the scattering amplitude. This opens a new window for the precise determination of the Higgs-boson couplings. Models with h…
A method is proposed for determining the masses of the new particles N,X,Y,Z in collider events containing a pair of effectively identical decay chains Z to Y+jet, Y to X+l_1, X to N+l_2, where l_1, l_2 are opposite-sign same-flavour charged leptons and N is invisible. By first determining the upper edge of the dilepton invariant mass spectrum, we reduce the problem to a curve for each event in the 3-dimensional space of mass-squared differences. The region through which most curves pass then determines the unknown masses. A statistical approach is applied to take account of mismeasurement of …
We use ISAJET to perform a detailed study of the missing transverse energy $\eslt$ plus multi-jet signal expected from superparticle production at the CERN LHC. Our analysis is performed within the framework of the minimal supergravity model with gauge coupling unification and radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. We delineate the region of parameter space where the $\eslt$ supersymmetry signal should be observable at the LHC and compare it to the regions explorable via searches for sleptons and for chargino/neutralino production. We confirm that, given a data sample of 10~$\fb^{-1}$, $m_{\…
The detection of an intermediate mass charged Higgs boson at $\gamgam$ colliders via the modes $\gamgam \to H^+ H^- \to ντ^+ \barν τ^-,~ c \bar{s} \bar{c} s,~$ and $ ντ^+ \bar{c}s + c \bar{s} \barν τ^-$ is considered. $W^+ W^-$ boson pair production is the dominant background for these modes. The three modes may be used in a complementary fashion to detect a charged Higgs boson. The mixed leptonic-hadronic mode may be used to determine the charged Higgs mass by reconstructing the invariant hadronic mass. The sensitivity of Br$(H^+ \rightarrow c\bar s,\,ντ^+)$ on the discovery limit of the char…
We study double Higgs production at the future Linear Collider in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Models through the following channels: $e^+e^- \to Φ_i Φ_j Z$, $Φ_i=h^0, H^0, A^0, H^\pm$. All these processes are sensitive to triple Higgs couplings. Hence observations of them provide information on the triple Higgs couplings that help reconstructing the scalar potential. We also discuss the double Higgs-strahlung $e^+e^- \to h^0 h^0 Z$ in the decoupling limit where $h^0$ mimics the SM Higgs boson. The processes $e^+e^- \to h^0 h^0 Z$ and $e^+e^- \to h^0 H^0 Z$ are also discussed in the …
We demonstrate that a measurement of the impact parameter in one-prong tau decay can be useful for the determination of the Higgs boson parity in the H/A --> tau tau; tau --> rho nu decay chain. We have estimated that for a detection set-up such as TESLA, use of the information from the tau impact parameter can improve the significance of the measurement of the parity of the Standard Model 120 GeV Higgs boson to 4.5 sigma, and in general by factor of about 1.5 with respect to the method where this information is not used. We also show that the variation in the assumption on the precision of th…
In the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) squarks from the third generation, i.e., the bottom and the top squarks, have a common set of parameters that determine their masses and couplings. These are in the form of the common soft mass for the left handed squark from the third generation ($m_{\widetilde{Q}_{_{3L}}}$), the supersymmetry conserving Higgsino mass parameter $μ$ and $\tanβ$, the ratio of vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets. This leads to an interesting possibility that the systems involving the bottom and the top squarks might get correlat…
Most sparticle decay cascades envisaged at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) involve hadronic decays of intermediate particles. We use state-of-the art techniques based on the \kt jet algorithm to reconstruct the resulting hadronic final states for simulated LHC events in a number of benchmark supersymmetric scenarios. In particular, we show that a general method of selecting preferentially boosted massive particles such as W, Z or Higgs bosons decaying to jets, using sub-jets found by the \kt algorithm, suppresses QCD backgrounds and thereby enhances the observability of signals that would othe…
The ongoing perplexing scenario with no hints of new physics at the Large Hadron Collider can be elucidated amicably if the exotic particle spectrum in many of the well-motivated theoretical models possesses degenerate mass. We investigate the usefulness of different kinematic variables sensitive to the compressed mass region, and propose a search strategy considering a phenomenological supersymmetric scenario where the top squark undergoes a four-body decay due to its extremely narrow mass difference with the lightest supersymmetric particle. Considering a challenging but relatively clean dil…
The dileptonic decays of doubly-charged Higgs bosons H^{\pm\pm} are investigated in the minimal type-II seesaw model with one Higgs triplet Δand one heavy Majorana neutrino N_1 at the TeV scale. We show that the branching ratios {\cal B}(H^{\pm\pm} \to l^\pm_αl^\pm_β) depend not only on the mass and mixing parameters of three light neutrinos ν_i (for i=1,2,3), but also on those of N_1. Assuming the mass of N_1 to lie in the range 200 GeV--1 TeV, we figure out the generous interference bands for the contributions of ν_i and N_1 to {\cal B}(H^{\pm\pm} \to l^\pm_αl^\pm_β): \sqrt{|\sinθ_{i4} \sinθ…
Once supersymmetric neutralinos $\tildeχ^0$ are produced copiously at $e^+e^-$ linear colliders, their characteristics can be measured with high precision. In particular, the fundamental parameters in the gaugino/higgsino sector of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) can be analyzed. Here we focus on the determination of possible CP--odd phases of these parameters. To that end, we exploit the electron/positron beam polarization, including transverse polarization, as well as the spin/angular correlations of the neutralino production $e^+ e^- \to \tildeχ^0_i \tildeχ…
We propose a simple way to extract particle masses given a displaced vertex signature in event topologies where two long-lived mother particles decay to visible particles and an invisible daughter. The mother could be either charged or neutral and the neutral daughter could correspond to a dark matter particle in different models. The method allows to extract the parent and daughter masses by using on-shell conditions and energy-momentum conservation, in addition to the displaced decay positions of the parents, which allows to solve the kinematic equations fully on an event-by-event basis. We …
In light of the recent discovery of a neutral Higgs boson, $H_{\rm obs}$, with a mass near 125 GeV, we reassess the LHC discovery potential of a charged Higgs boson, $H^\pm$, in the $W^\pm H_{\rm obs}$ decay channel. This decay channel can be particularly important for a $H^\pm$ heavier than the top quark, when it is produced through the $pp \rightarrow tH^\pm$ process. The knowledge of the mass of $H_{\rm obs}$ provides an additional handle in the kinematic selection when reconstructing a Breit-Wigner resonance in the $H_{\rm obs} \rightarrow b\bar{b}$ decay channel. We consider some extensio…
One of the main objectives of almost all future (lepton) colliders is to measure the self-coupling of triple Higgs in the Standard Model. By elongating the Standard Model's scalar sector, using incipient Higgs doublet along with a quadratic (Higgs) potential should reveal many incipient features of the model and the possibility of the emergence of additional Higgs self-couplings. The self-coupling of the Higgs boson helps in reconstructing the scalar potential. The main objective of this paper is to extract Higgs self-coupling by numerically analyzing several scattering processes governed by t…
Production of the Standard Model Higgs-boson at the photon collider at TESLA is studied for the Higgs-boson masses above 170 GeV. By reconstructing WW and ZZ final states, not only the h to gamma-gamma partial width but also the phase of the scattering amplitude can be measured. This opens a new window onto the precise determination of the Higgs-boson couplings.
We study the potential of the TESLA linear collider operated at a center-of-mass energy of 500 to 1000 GeV for the measurement of the neutral Higgs boson properties within the framework of the MSSM. The process of associated Higgs boson production with subsequent decays of Higgs bosons into b-quark and tau-lepton pairs is considered. An integrated luminosity of 500 fb^{-1} is assumed at each energy. The Higgs boson masses and production cross sections are measured by reconstructing the bbbb and bbττfinal states. The precision of these measurements is evaluated in dependence of the Higgs boson …
Neutralinos $\tildeχ^0$ in supersymmetric theories, the spin--1/2 Majorana--type superpartners of the U(1) and SU(2) neutral electroweak gauge bosons and SU(2) neutral Higgs bosons, are expected to be among light supersymmetric particles so that they can be produced copiouslyvia direct pair production and/or from cascade decays of other sparticles such as sleptons at the planned Large Hadron Collider and the prospective International Linear Collider. Considering the prospects of having both highly polarized neutralinos and possibility of reconstructing their decay rest frames, we provide a sys…
We investigate the production of heavy, neutral Higgs boson resonances and their decays to top-quark top-antiquark ($t\bar{t}$) pairs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at next-to-leading order (NLO) in the strong coupling of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The NLO corrections to heavy Higgs boson production and the Higgs-QCD interference are calculated in the large $m_t$ limit with an effective K-factor rescaling. The nonresonant $t\bar{t}$ background is taken into account at NLO QCD including weak-interaction corrections. In order to consistently determine the total decay widths of the heavy H…
Based on the jet image approach, which treats the energy deposition in each calorimeter cell as the pixel intensity, the Convolutional neural network (CNN) method has been found to achieve a sizable improvement in jet tagging compared to the traditional jet substructure analysis. In this work, the Mask R-CNN framework is adopted to reconstruct Higgs jets in collider-like events, with the effects of pileup contamination taken into account. This automatic jet reconstruction method achieves higher efficiency of Higgs jet detection and higher accuracy of Higgs boson four-momentum reconstruction th…
The ratio of neutral Higgs field vacuum expectation values, tan(beta), is one of the most important parameters to determine in either the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) or a general type-II Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). Assuming an energy and integrated luminosity of sqrts=500 GeV and L=2000 fb-1 at a future linear collider (LC), we show that a very accurate determination of tan(beta) will be possible for low and high tan(beta) values by measuring the production rates of Higgs bosons and reconstructing Higgs boson decays. In particular, based on a TESLA simulation, and assuming…
We study methods for reconstructing the momenta of invisible particles in cascade decay chains at hadron colliders. We focus on scenarios, such as SUSY and UED, in which new physics particles are pair produced. Their subsequent decays lead to two decay chains ending with neutral stable particles escaping detection. Assuming that the masses of the decaying particles are already measured, we obtain the momenta by imposing the mass-shell constraints. Using this information, we develop techniques of determining spins of particles in theories beyond the standard model. Unlike the methods relying on…
In this paper, we point out a novel signature of physics beyond the Standard Model which could potentially be observed both at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and at future colliders. This signature, which emerges naturally within many proposed extensions of the Standard Model, results from the multiple displaced vertices associated with the successive decays of unstable, long-lived particles along the same decay chain. We call such a sequence of displaced vertices a "tumbler." We examine the prospects for observing tumblers at the LHC and assess the extent to which tumbler signatures can be d…

We study the sensitivity of anomalous neutral triple gauge couplings ($aNTGC$) via $pp \rightarrow ZZ$ production in the 4$\ell$ channel at 100 TeV centre of mass energy of future circular hadron collider, \verb"FCC-hh". The analysis including the realistic detector effects is performed in the mode where both Z bosons decay into same flavor, oppositely charged lepton pairs. The sensitivities to the charge-parity (CP)-conserving $C_{\tilde{B}W} / Λ^{4}$ and CP-violating $C_{WW} / Λ^{4}$, $C_{BW} / Λ^{4}$ and $C_{BB} / Λ^{4}$ couplings obtained at 95\% Confidence Level (C.L.) using the invariant…
Cascade decays of Supersymmetric (SUSY) particles are likely to be prolific sources of Higgs bosons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this work, we explore, with the help of detailed simulation, the role of non-universal gaugino masses in the production of the Higgs bosons under SUSY cascades. The analysis is carried out by choosing an appropriate set of benchmark points with non-universal gaugino masses in the relevant SUSY parameter space and then contrasting the resulting observations with the corresponding cases having universal relationship among the same. It is shown that even of da…
Measurements of a Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have become increasingly consistent with the predictions of the Standard Model (SM). This fact puts severe constraints on many potential low-energy extensions of the Higgs sector of the SM. In the well-known Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), an `alignment limit' of parameters readily furnishes one SM-like scalar, and can be achieved naturally through an underlying symmetry. Among the other physical states of the 2HDM, a charged scalar $H^\pm$ would provide striking evidence of new physics if observed. We propose a novel technique f…
We suggest that non-trivial correlations between the dark matter particle mass and collider based probes of missing transverse energy H_T^miss may facilitate a two tiered approach to the initial discovery of supersymmetry and the subsequent reconstruction of the LSP mass at the LHC. These correlations are demonstrated via extensive Monte Carlo simulation of seventeen benchmark models, each sampled at five distinct LHC center-of-mass beam energies, spanning the parameter space of No-Scale F-SU(5).This construction is defined in turn by the union of the Flipped SU(5) Grand Unified Theory, two pa…
We describe a coherent strategy and set of tools for reconstructing the fundamental theory of the TeV scale from LHC data. We show that On-Shell Effective Theories (OSETs) effectively characterize hadron collider data in terms of masses, production cross sections, and decay modes of candidate new particles. An OSET description of the data strongly constrains the underlying new physics, and sharply motivates the construction of its Lagrangian. Simulating OSETs allows efficient analysis of new-physics signals, especially when they arise from complicated production and decay topologies. To this e…
Probing the origin of neutrino mass by disentangling the seesaw mechanism is one of the central issues of particle physics. We address it in the minimal left-right symmetric model and show how the knowledge of light and heavy neutrino masses and mixings suffices to determine their Dirac Yukawa couplings. This in turn allows one to make predictions for a number of high and low energy phenomena, such as decays of heavy neutrinos, neutrinoless double beta decay, electric dipole moments of charged leptons and neutrino transition moments. We also discuss a way of reconstructing the neutrino Dirac Y…
